This was an unexpected read for me given the cover on EbookRenta was very spicy and exposing. It caught my eye on X, when I saw a few of the manga pages posted.
The premise is interesting because it's about two childhood friends; one who can give birth to children but is next in line to inherit a gang and another who works as a host but loves the other. Unexpectedly one day, there are flyers distributed around the gang, stating that whoever can impregnate Taiga gets a guaranteed position in the gang. Taiga, finding solace in Ren, goes to visit him, only to hear Ren's sudden confession. Thus, the battle begins, but what does Taiga really want?
This volume does have attempted rape and assault so please be weary going into this series. Additionally, this manga does have explicit sex scenes.
Personally, I enjoyed this story. There was always something happening and although it used a fairly large cast of characters, it remained simple and concise. Although the plot heavily focuses on Taiga, his surroundings, decisions and consequences, we do see and hear the thoughts and actions of others. Also, I enjoyed the expressions depicted in this volume. The facial expressions were not only evident and clear, but they were very animated and brought out the dialogues. That said, this is a quick two volume story so misunderstandings are not dragged out and things happen fairly quickly.
The artwork is quite beautiful. It was detailed and colored, yet crisp and clear. It primarily uses iconography to display emotions and feelings with occasional partial backgrounds. The focus in most panels are the faces but there are also many full body panels and inserts. I also loved the chibis and the manga does a good job depicting the flashback using younger, yet noticeable versions of both Taiga and Ren.
Overall, I enjoyed this volume and find myself going back to certain chapters multiple times. I felt Taiga's personality heavily contributed to my enjoyment of the story, because he's doing everything he can to ensure no one takes advantage of him to get the next in line position. Ren is also my favorite character, because he's clear in voicing his thoughts and actions. This volume ends in a cliffhanger which leads me to think Taiga is going to make a rash decision. I guess I'll have to pick up the next volume quickly!
