What if the hardest moments of your life were actually guiding you toward something greater? In Trusting Gus, Hilary Young takes readers on an unforgettable journey through the trials of her childhood, the struggles of addiction, and the extraordinary events that revealed a hidden power within herself.Raised by an abusive, bipolar alcoholic, and surviving a near-fatal drowning, Hilary's story is one of resilience, self-discovery, and the quiet presence of a force she calls the "Great Universal Spirit"—Gus.

Through raw, heartfelt storytelling, Hilary shares how she navigated decades of pain, found sobriety, and ultimately embraced the presence of Gus in her life. This isn't just a memoir of survival—it's a testimony to the unseen power that connects us all, waiting for us to trust it.

Readers from all walks of life have found themselves reflecting on their own stories, finding comfort, hope, and perhaps even their own connection to something greater. Trusting Gus is not about religion—it's about life's mysteries, second chances, and the spirit that guides us through them all.

A deeply moving tale of faith, fate, and the extraordinary resilience of the human spirit.

What a poignant, funny, inspiring read. Trusting Gus is a memoir from my hairdresser/friend, Hilary, as she experiences so many otherworldly divine miracles that are purely unexplainable besides trusting and knowing that her higher power is looking out for her — at once emotional and raw, while also witty and sarcastic, this book reads like you’re sharing a meal with Hilary (or in my case, sitting in her wonderful salon chair!).

I loved this true story and couldn’t put it down! Three short chapters in and I was totally hooked.A little weak for me in the first chapter but well worth continuing. It’s a very personal and tough story to tell, but honestly and frankly told, with the author’s humour rising through it all. It’s a tale of overcoming what to most would be insurmountable challenges, survival against the odds, and the formation of an unwavering belief system in a higher power as the author struggles to become her best self. Inspirational. A compelling read.
