A second chance prequel from small-town romance author Brooke Montgomery about high school sweethearts who find each other again after ten years and reveal secrets that change everything...
I didn’t know I was pregnant.
Ayden walked away from me a decade ago and never looked back. The only thing he left me was our sweet, amazing daughter. And a mile-long list of small town secrets.
When his father—the town’s mayor—threatens me, Ayden’s childhood best friend steps in. And I have no choice but to fight the battles he ran away from.
I spent years looking for the only man who’s ever stolen my heart. When I finally find him in Sugarland Creek, Tennessee, I go and face him.
He deserves to know the truth. Not just about his child but his best friend, too.
No matter how much time has passed and how far apart we are, my heart still beats for him. But I don’t want to get hurt again.
Even though I want to give us another chance, it’s not just my heart on the line... It’s our daughter’s, too.
Come With Me is a prequel in the Sugarland Creek series. If you love second chances, secret child, and small town tropes, you’ll fall hard for Ayden, Laney, and Serena! Each book in the series is a stand-alone and ends in a happily ever after.
Brooke has been writing romance since 2013 under the USA Today Bestselling author retired pen names: Brooke Cumberland and Kennedy Fox, and now: Brooke Montgomery and Brooke Fox. She loves writing small town romance with big families and happily ever afters! She lives in the frozen tundra of Packer Nation with her husband, teenager daughter and pack of dogs. Brooke's addicted to caffeine, cold winter nights, and afternoon naps. She found her passion for telling stories during winter break one year in grad school—and she hasn’t stopped since.
•meh mmc •shallow protagonists •way too many side characters my head is spinning •effortless and not AT ALL detailed writing, it oscillated between silly and unrealistic dialogues to inner monologues too long and just focused on the side characters
ps: the list can go on and on but i think this is sufficient to back up the "dnf" if the "why are u being so unfair dnf-police " is not too far
I have started to realize I have OCD in a sense because when the first book in this series came up on my feed I knew I had to start with the prequel to give me context. I was not disappointed. I have mentioned this before but I am DIGGING the second chance romances which is what this happens to be. Ayden and Laney were high school sweethearts who had their future planned out until things didn't go the way they wanted. Ayden had to leave to get away from his toxic family and Laney couldn't leave their small town because of her mom. They realized that in this instance love was not enough.
Fast forward 10 years and Ayden is a ranch hand for the family that runs Sugarland Creek in Tennessee. He has found a new family here. He has moved forward with his life or at least he thinks he has until Laney rolls into town to tell him that his BF has died. He had cut her off thinking that he was protecting her from the wrath of his father. She looked for him for years until she was able to find him. Their chemistry reignites immediately and they start picking up where they left off. But but of them are asking themselves how things have changed? They still live in different states. Then Laney drops the bomb that right after he left she found out she was pregnant. Ayden will move heaven and earth to be in his daughter's life and once that thought pops into his head he realizes he wants Laney in it on a more permanent basis.
This was a nice way to get to meet all of the characters that will surely follow in the series which starts with Noah- the baby girl of the family. The only challenge I had with this book was how Laney just forgave Ayden so quickly. I mean the love of her life not only left but then ghosted her of course he thought he was doing right by her but DAMN. How can someone just walk away like that? Other than that I liked this book. The spice was pretty good- nothing too crazy in my opinion. On to Noah and Fisher (her ex boyfriends DAD!).
Come with Me is a prequel novella from Brooke Montgomery, a little sneak peek of a new small town series, Sugarland Creek, starting later in the year! This one has two of my favorite tropes: second chance and secret baby romance (in the synopsis).
The story starts 10 years in the past, with childhood friends turned highschool sweethearts, Ayden and Laney, going their separate ways. He’s 18 and ready to leave behind their small town in Texas, while she wants to stay. Ayden’s father has been physically abusive his whole life and he wants to leave and never look back. We catch up with him 10 years later and he’s working at the Hollis family ranch, Sugarland Creek in Tennessee. Laney found him in an online video working at the ranch and shows up, surprising him with the news that they have a 9-year old daughter!
I love childhood friends turned lovers, plus second chance and secret baby! This one started off great, but about halfway in I felt the length of the book and thought it could have been shortened. This audio is currently free from the author and I had a great time with it, especially the narrators Southern accents! I am excited now to check out more from this author in the future.
Brooke does it again. I read this whole series out of order, starting with book 3, then 4, then 1, then 0.5 and I'm aiming to read book 2 in January before book 5 comes out in February!
I just love this series. It doesn't matter whether we're following a Hollis sibling or just some who works on the ranch like in this one, I love it no matter what. Ayden and Laney's story was really sweet, felt a little rushed, but it obviously will, it's a novella. I'd of loved some more of their back story, but regardless, I loved it! Can't wait to read book 2 and 5 and then start on her new series.
My Review (May contain spoilers, fair warning upon reading this review, please be responsible)
Come With Me is the prequel to the Sugarland Creek saga and I was so interested when I saw this book being recommended. I am glad that I started with this one, because it really sets up the rest of the series so nicely. I was a bit apprehensive with the biggest trope of this book being a secret baby, but I have to tell you I was beyond impressed with this one. I had such a blast with it and I can't believe I am saying that for a secret baby romance but I had a great time with this one. I can tell you I definitely will be reading more from this author if any of her books are like this one here.
What impressed me immediately is how drawn in I became to the story very quickly. I just wanted so much for these characters to find their HEA and the circumstances behind the secret baby is very VALID. For those that are concerned, its worth reading. I normally hate reading secret baby because of how toxic the heroines come off being, but in this situation the heroine did everything RIGHT. I also liked the more stronger western themes in this one here. If you want a really authentic feeling western romance, then you need to grab this one up because it definitely had strong authentic vibes attached to it. I really felt for our characters because of what kept them apart, but when we see how strong they are together, I was all for it 100%. It does have some good spice. That doesn't matter to me in a romance, but I know for some readers you really need the spice moments.
Overall I fell hard for Come With Me and eager to see what this author does for this series and this family!
It's always hard for me to love a novella because there's always so much that can be added to round and enrich the story. I don't know if I ever read one and thought it's just the perfect length. Maybe because i prefer full length novels with 300+ pages. And I generally avoid novellas but I wanted to start this series and I love to gain more information about the characters...also these tropes were something that caught my eye. Well all except the pregnancy.
Probably the thing that bothered me most is him leaving her, when he claimed she's the love of his life, and for the next 10 years didn't try to see her or contact her in any way. If she didn't show up I bet he'd just continue his life as it was. So all his claims how much he loves her, still, and how he never stopped ring very hollow to me.
I did like their chemistry and it was sweet when they reunited and started to plan a future together, especially moments with their daughter. But then it went a little too dramatic/suspenseful for my taste because the transition seem so sudden.
This was a great prequel to the Sugarland Creek series. 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙈𝙚 is fast paced, and provides the reader with a perfect introduction to the family and the ranch. I am so excited to get into this series and see where everything goes!
💕 Second Chance Romance 🍼 Secret Baby ✨ Highschool Sweethearts
“King and Queen of Homecoming. The football star and the head cheerleader. Childhood friends turned high school sweethearts. We were the epitome of a Texas country song.”
Ayden and Laney are end game. Or so they thought until Ayden decided to leave Texas and move to Tennessee in secret to get away from his abusive father. He begged Laney to come with him but she couldn’t leave her mother.
10 years. 10 years she tried to find him. He was too afraid his father would come after him. And Laney was left alone. Pregnant.
This is a childhood sweethearts, second chance, surprise baby, spice, and a dash of suspense. It’s the start of a found family series.
Brooke Montgomery’s books always suck me in and I’m left finishing each book in one sitting.
Ayden and Laney have always loved eachother and that love never died. Once Laney finally found him, the romance was already set in stone and re-blossomed so something fierce. And now Ayden gets to be a father to his daughter. I absolutely loved it. I’m reading the series out of order, but I am familiar with all of the characters so I wasn’t confused at all. I am almost caught up with the entire series and can’t wait for the next book!
This started off with so much promise but it moved so fast and then the last third was just so over the top and ridiculous - esp the mom's role. Really - that's the way out of this mess? There was so much potential with the storyline but I don’t think it delivered - esp. the story with the dad. Wanted to like it… still, I am curious enough to read the series this is a prequel to.
3 stars is perhaps me being a bit generous…but I really thought it was such a great premise. Just didn’t quite deliver.
This was a short, sweet, second chance romance novella! I loved the introduction to the Sugarland Creek ranch and all the individuals who reside there. Ayden and Laney were east characters to root for. And I loved the teaser of Fisher and Noah at the end, because I can’t wait to dive into their story!
AWE!!! My Heart loved every moment of this second chance romance! Brooke Montgomery's Sugarland Creek series is going to be fire!!
Come With Me by Brooke Montgomery is a prequel to her Sugarland Creek series. You can read this novel by visiting Brooke Montgomery’s website and clicking on the Sugarland Creek Series and downloading the Free Prequel! Trust me when I say, you don’t want to miss out on Ayden and Lainey’s second chance/secret baby romance!
Ayden has lived under his father’s abusive grip for far too long. At eighteen years old, he finds himself ready to flee small town Texas and find somewhere he can breathe in fresh air without a single care in the world. His only issue falls on the love of his life, Laney. You see, Laney has a close family and Laney has hesitations about moving away from her family. So with a heavy heart, and wide wings, Ayden leaves Laney behind to live his dreams of freedom.
Now, Ten Years Later, Laney has tracked Ayden down at Sugarland Creek Ranch & Equin retreat, with a secret she is scared to share with him. Let’s just say, when he left her in his taillights…she wasn’t alone….
My Thoughts:
If you don’t know by now, I’m the biggest fan of Secret Baby/Child romances! The vulnerability that shows when a man finds out he fathered a child he knew nothing about pulls at every single one of my heartstrings. So when Brooke Montgomery published her novel Come With Me, and I saw one of the tropes was secret baby/secret child… I knew I had to get my hands on this one A.S.A.P! And let me tell you, she did this trope justice!
I really loved witnessing the love re-bloom between Ayden and Laney, after such a painful ending ten years prior. I also loved the undeniable bond between Ayden and his child, Serena. Gosh, I felt everything with this novel!
What Come With Me did was cause my anticipation for the Sugarland Creek series to increase! I cannot wait for September when Here With Me releases! Bring on all the feels!! This goes beyond saying, Brooke Montgomery knows her way around writing sweet and spicy romances. She also knows her way around tugging at her reader’s heartstrings and making them feel so much while reading her novels. I was a huge fan of Kennedy Fox, but what I can say now is, I’m a fan of Brooke Montgomery’s! I can’t wait to continue on with this series! I have a feeling this family series is about to light the pages of every kindle in the world, on fire!
”you’re the love of my life, and that’ll never change. if i need to wait a decade for you, i will.” ₊ ⊹
my thoughts ┊wasn’t really impressed with this for a number of reasons. things felt too packed and rushed for a novella, and yet at the same time i felt like this book was over 500 pages with how much things dragged on.
also, not a fan of how it was suggested that one of the main characters in the series would have taken advantage of two drunk girls, nor how the author referred to an older man sexually assaulting a minor as them having an “affair.” so…. yeah. this was just not it lol
I LOVED this prequel to the sugerland creek series by @brookewritesromance
If you like: Love, romance, sweetness, small town, cowboys, second chances, High school sweethearts, secret love child...this is the book for you.
This story has such a sweet story line with Laney and Aiden. Coming back together after 10 years apart to discover he has a daughter he knew nothing about. This spiralling story between them will have you weak at the knees with the love they share and the beautiful story they have.
Definitely a few twists and turns along the way that are a bit unexpected but most definitely add some grit to the story.
I'm opening the next book in the series right now as I can't wait to read Noah and Fishers story.
Tropes: - Secret Pregnancy - Second Chance - It’s Always Been You - Small Town
I absolutely loved this prequel!! I am so excited to start Here with Me tomorrow!! Save a horse, ride a cowboy🥵 Ayden and Laney are soulmates and will always be meant for each other. BUT the bonus epilogue was EVERYTHING 🥺
I really enjoyed this one. Small town, ranch life with horses and cowboys, second chance romance - what’s not to like? I liked Ayden and Laneys relationship and their story and how they found their way back to each other. There was a lot of plot, and it was a quick, easy read!
Love the cover. It was an okay read, very OTT, fast paced. I also expected for certain things to not be so anticlimactic. 😑 more excited about the next book in this series Noah and Fisher.
This was such a cute prequel of the Sugarland Creek series. It’s a small town, second chance, secret baby romance. I loved Ayden, Laney, and Serena and I’m so excited for Noah and Fisher’s story.
It took everything in me to ignore their country “accents” 🫣 this was a KU read so I didn’t put too much thought or effort into it but it was decent. A middle ground of 3 stars seems appropriate
