Catholic priest and exorcist Joe Bruno has been nursing a secret crush for months. All he can think about is too-sexy-for-words, demon-killing art historian Percy Ashdown.
One cataclysmic night, when Joe realises Percy’s about to slip from his grasp forever, he’s forced to lay his cards on Percy’s table. What Joe doesn’t know is that Percy’s dreamed of this moment since the day they met, and quicker than he can say Hail Mary, Percy whisks Joe away to Europe on the holiday of a lifetime.
The only problem is, Percy’s living a double life. And while he’s determined to keep his dark side hidden from his sweet priest, secrets soon start catching up with them. Before he knows it, the two are mired in crime, blood, and zombies.
As each disaster falls at their feet, Percy’s hapless and hilarious attempts to pretend to be good pull them both deeper into a web of lies, leaving Joe wondering, has he made the worst mistake of his life? Or could Percy really be the happy ending Joe’s always dreamed of?
Part one of an MM Romance duology, Sinful Crimes for the Artistically Inclined is the fast burn, high steam, ride or die, action-packed, elegant, and occasionally horrifying supernatural adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last line.
Swallow down your travel pills. It’s going to be a very bumpy ride.
Author of the Endymion College series, W. H. Lockwood writes gothic romance, MM action-romance, historical fiction, dark academia and cosy horror.
Raised on a diet of teen horror books and Pepsi, only willing to leave her den to attend chess club at public school, W.H. Lockwood started writing at a young age and has kept this passion throughout her life.
Always a voracious reader, she obtained an undergraduate degree in literary studies from a gorgeous sandstone university, following that with a masters in publishing and editing, then a masters in astronomy, thus uniting her two great loves of the arts and science, leaving her utterly unqualified to cope with the real world.
These days, W.H. Lockwood can often be found aimlessly wandering the coffee shops and bookstores of the beautiful city she calls home.
Mann I never realized I loved fast burn just as much as slow burn and then I met these two! Joe and Percy were sooo hot 🥵 but also I go absolutely feral for smut and first times and mutual pining and there was so much of it here from the beginning! There were so many feels and so much pining from both sides and detailed background of Percy and Joe’s connection prior to the book that made it feel like you knew the characters already. Their history was very believable. The world in this book felt super immersive that I could almost imagine myself in the scene, that’s how descriptive the writing is here. The way Joe and Percy hop from one adventure to the next kept me on my toes the whole time I was reading. The banter was also truly bantering between these two. 😂
Joe was so sweet and naive, I kinda wanted to shake him and hug him and protect him all at the same time. Not that he needed it bc he was also super smart and fierce? He was absolutely gone for Percy from the first page and I was so here for that type of obsession 🥰 But I also did feel like he could be judgmental of Percy but I guess that’s a hazard of being a priest . He was also super insecure in a way that kind of became a little too much but we didn’t get a whole lot of his backstory to understand but I definitely think Joe’s insecurities and inner feelings about Percy I helped add a tension to the story that was needed to carry I forward from how hot and heavy they started.
Percy?! I just loved his character he was SUPER morally gray and brat coded (almost a brat but not?) and I loved that. 😈Most of the banter that I loved came from him bc he was absolutely feral for Joe all the time and never let him forget it 🥵 The casual way he killed someone in almost every action scene had me chuckling throughout the entire book. To be fair some of those peeps deserved it (bc the artist in me related 100% to him deciding to kill some Nazis bc they ruined priceless art?!) I just loved Percy and he really was my fave character.
This book was just a wild cinematic, action filled ride that I can’t wait to read the next part of. All the characters introduced felt very real and fleshed out and different from one another. If you like detailed immersive storytelling, international adventures and mysteries, casual murder of horrible people and what looks to be the beginnings of a zombie apocalypse you should definitely pick this book up!
Wow, just wow. Like... This is outstanding people!!! Simply outstanding 💙💙
When I started this book I had no idea what to expect. Stupidly I have never read a book from W.H. Lockwood before and, after reading this, I've had a very stern word with myself and instantly downloaded all others available (I kid you not!). When I started reading I got an instant 'throw-me-in-at-the-deep-end' type story that didn't take chapters of mindless bumph to get the story started, It literally stared on page 1 and I am here for it!! No easing you in gently, the tone was set from the start for this insanely good action packed read that warmed even my cold heart. You also get a kind of a mini-story for each of the 'heists' that are in this, all meshing together wonderfully in to the overall plot line and that was such a refreshing change.
Percy and Joe are ridiculously in love with each other, even before they lay a hand on each other, and you get the feeling from the get-go that these 2 together are going to be an hilarious, adorable, frustrating (in a good way) couple.... and that's exactly what they are. The banter in this had me proper laughing, the teasing between the 2 was as realistic as it comes and their playful arguing was just the cherry on the top for me. They were real, they were adorable and they were (are) so helplessly in love with each other that all morals get thrown out of the window (Joe is especially good at this). Their relationship becomes intense but perfect in a short space of time, but it isn't rushed at all. Reading it feels (at times) like they've been together for years but the heat between them reminds you that it is a new relationship and is still in the 'honeymoon phase' (although I have no doubt these 2 will be in this phase forever)
It's also hot... like HOT!!!! Now I love my smut, I live for it, but the spice in this wasn't forced or there simply to fill a few pages. Nor was it on every other page. But it was the perfect tone and the perfect amount for the story to bring out their need for each other but not not impact the plot in the slightest. Fantastically done.
Perfect read, so so different to anything else out there at the moment and I cannot wait for book 2
P.S. LOVED Althea
I received an ARC of this book from the Author and this is my honest review
This books gives Indy Jones vibes but MM and one is a Catholic priest who's had enough with celibacy... But there's also a bit of the supernatural in it, and some possible necromancy. And zombies. And murder and mayhem. And there's a romantic love story between Percy, the posh 'art historian'/art thief/killer for hire with a love for Caravaggio and a hate for Nazis and fake friends, and Joe, the sweet but strong priest with a moral compass as precise as Percy's is loose. Percy has been trying to resist Joe for a while, though he's got complicated feelings about everyone and I loved that about him. But Joe's, our soon to be corrupted Catholic priest, has had enough. What starts by each one fooling themselves into a fwb arrangement ends in a romp across Europe and North Africa while rescueing paintings, relics, teenage girls and drinking a lot of champagne. And having quite a lot of sex. They have to make up for Joe's inexperience, as one does. Percy is flawed and will protect Joe no matter what, even if it costs him. And Joe will protect Percy's soul above all things. These two are the best for each other and the adoration between them is perfection. Though maybe Joe should tone down the jealousy, or not because it's soooo funny. And Percy couldn't help but being a bit slutty, which made for quite a lot of 'interesting' moments for the pair. Their banter was HILARIOUS, and it was masterfully interspersed with the action. The villain is very villanous indeed and I can't wait to see more of her evil schemes. And her undead minions. Loved this book!
** I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK FOR MY READING PLEASURE **

When I first requested an ARC of this, I thought it was the first in a series. When I learned it was the first in a *spin-off* series, I checked with the author if the Endymion College trilogy needed to be read to understand Sinful Crimes. I was assured that it wasn't necessary because it was written in a way where you'd understand all the important details without having read Endymion. Well, I had the money and time, so I read Endymion 1-3. I didn't really enjoy them that much, but I loved Joe and Percy's characters, and they featured heavily through all 3 books.
I'm glad I read them, because page 1 literally repeats a scene featured in Endymion book 3. However it was that weird fever dream A Trip to Hell in Four Acts, which made no sense and didn't fit at all into the timeline. Because of the vague, confusing way it was written, it wasn't even clear if that actually happened or not, so seeing it here, word for word, was confusing to say the least.
However, while I understand the point - to show Joe and Percy's side of events - it REALLY doesn't work in a standalone story. There's a definite sense of not following the scene, like something is missing or that you've walked in halfway through a story - which you have! The first few chapters of recapping how they got together could have benefitted from being a flashback instead, which requires less context, rather than the long-winded option of rehashing events that have no bearing on THIS plot or timeline.
I was actually hoping that the book would start with Joe and Percy's trip, while Anna was with Demon-Evelyn, because Joe had to recover from an intense injury and he and Percy went to Italy. Then at the end of Book 3 of Endymion Joe and Percy went travelling again together to Poland.
Joe's history with Anna and her friends is complex and spans the entire Endymion College trilogy, whereas Percy really only comes in full-frame during Book 3, though he has influence in the other 2 books as well.
For that reason, I'd say that you can't really understand Joe or Percy as characters unless you've also read Endymion College, which is a tough sell, since one series is MF and the other MM.
And recapping through a ONE PAGE COMIC is REALLY NOT appropriate. This is actually done TWICE and feels like a - and I hate saying this, because it sounds harsh, but it's true - really lazy solution.
I'm sorry, but this book ONLY makes sense within the Endymion College world, not as a separate entity, which I was led to believe.
Despite that, however, there are multiple consistency issues between events here and events in the trilogy! Percy talks to Joe about having the Spear of Destiny, it's sheath and having searched Libya. However, it's JOE who tells Percy to look in Libya in Book 2, and there wasn't enough time between then and now to say Percy simply took up Joe's suggestion. Also, Joe seems super surprised by the skeletons in Percy's basement despite the fact he WAS THERE when they first appeared in Book 3 of Endymion.
I stopped at 16% because I'm disappointed. I loved Joe and Percy in the trilogy - they were the ONLY reason I kept reading to the end. I was expecting flirting, simmering attraction and action packed adventure. I got none of that. Just 16% of sex and the build up to it.
I'm sorry to say that this book...this series...and this author...are not for me. Other people might not mind the inconsistencies and artistic choices but they're not really my taste.
It’s been a hot minute since a book made me laugh out loud as much as this did. I’ve had a super busy month but I looked forward to sitting down to read this every night.
This book sits on just the right side of ridiculous, balancing that line perfectly with humour and still keeping me invested in all the events taking place no matter how wild they were.
The story sets a fast pace and I love the short chapters. The attention to detail in this story and the beautiful prose just made this a fucking joy to read.
This is my first read from this author but I’m now a devout fan because I enjoyed every second of this book and I can’t wait for more Percy and Joe. Two unforgettable characters in the best way.
Thank you to the author for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review.
any character being named percy who is *not* of the jackson variety feels very illegal. like honestly, even the mere concept of there being a character named percy without jackson coming after it should be strictly prohibited
it should be like how no one can wear jersey #99 out of respect for wayne gretzky (even though he is no longer deserving of any respect); no one can name a character percy out of respect for rick riordan. the name percy being used outside of PJO honestly even feels like straight up defamation. i’m so serious about this
but anyway, aside from that, this book was fun and messy and hot as hell (ha, hell. cause priest. and cause percy has a one way first class ticket to H town. i’ll do whatever it takes to be seated next to him on that flight. that’s right joe i’m coming for your man. hey, you’re the one who wanted to get to the pearly gates so bad. i’ll tell him you said hi 😏). he might have been named percy - not jackson - meaning he’s inevitably inferior - but he definitely didn’t disappoint 🤭
but… this book was such a fast burn that it almost made me feel like i missed something?
i think i’m just not used to books speedrunning through the main relationship milestones like this where it almost felt like i was missing a lot of key context 💀 i thought i had skipped a vital book that would’ve explained their dynamic to make it make sense that they moved this fast. just cause percy dropped his all-consuming crush on anna in a second, and joe broke his vow of celibacy after contemplating it for merely a few hours, while having constantly turned percy’s overt flirting down for months. hey, i’m not complaining about the pacing or anything, i’m just saying it did feel a bit odd in that way
it was weird cause it started out super hot and heavy way way early on, with the premise of percy giving joe sex lessons, a trope i LOVE, but then it kinda fell flat and went nowhere as the book turned into all plot. it was this abrupt shift where i went from ‘oh this is a sexxxx book’ to ‘wtf why are they having sex marathons off page?’. it would’ve been nice to see those initial times where joe was learning all kinds of sexual acts and skills, so that later on when they fucked again, we could sense joe’s sensical growth. yes, that was a genuinely serious critique. you shouldn’t expect anything less; i’m an analytical skeptic and a connoisseur of great literature. i would never joke around about something like this
there were a few noticeable mistakes and dicey writing moments, plus percy totally should’ve died when he was negotiating with the two guards of cleo’s that he kept alive. how the hot one didn’t just shoot percy while percy was distracted backing the other guard up against the wall is beyond me. percy’s wearin at least one piece of plot armour
however, percy’s little switcheroo from ‘i’ll kill the wife’ to ‘i’ll kill the husband’ was definitely appreciated by me and saved me from typing a long ass rant about how he’s a sick son of a bitch with inconsistent morals. so that’s fun
overall, this was an exciting, action packed romp that i had fun with and that entertained me greatly! excited to see how all this mess concludes!
One million stars for this action packed, heart warming action/adventure romance which is spicy as fuck and one of the funnest things I've ever read.
It's a breakneck trip across Europe from chapter 2, packed full of zombie hands, crypts, car chases, Percy being an idiot, Joe being my baby ❤️, awesome side characters, deep dark pasts, just the right amount of angst-inducing jealousy, witty dialogue and gorgeous prose.
Oh, and did I already mention the spice???
Counting down the days until book two because I can't wait to see what's in store for them next.
I loved the non-stop, over-the-top adventure. W.H. Lockwood started at 11 and kept ratcheting up.
The ying-yang dynamic between a Catholic priest and an art thief(erm, art *Historian*...), romping through beautiful churches and undead mysteries is exactly the Anne Rice-esque vibe I will never be able to resist.
The story is a string of interconnected mini-heists, each with its own arc and its own mini-climax (story and otherwise) as Joe and Percy get emotionally closer to each other.
If you're looking for cozy, this might not be your book. But you're getting a lot of action, banter, sweetness, and -may I say- heat. All the heat. Hell froze over because this book stole all the heat.
So in the beginning I wasn’t sure this was the book for me. I struggled with the pacing a bit the writing style. Which was absolutely a me thing. But I am so so glad I carried on.
This book was so original. A priest and an art historian fall in love? There’s zombies?? Kick ass side characters??? Amazing. Definitely a premise I haven’t read before and I give hella points for the originality.
This has some great tropes, virgin, insta love, adventure (I’m making it a trope ok) touch him and 💀. Just to name a couple.
I love Percy. Like he’s the most chaotic charming man and he has Joe enraptured, god aside. They compliment each other in such a beautiful way. How grounds Percy and Percy shows Joe the life he can live and enjoy.
The spice level is nice, and it’s written so very well. I’m mean the first 10 pages and you’re in. It’s wonderful. But it doesn’t over take the story, which I greatly appreciate. There is a mild cliffhanger as we wait for book 2, but it’s absolutely worth it.
Overall great book, love the excitement and the originality. This is definitely a you need to read kind of book.
i devoured this book. You’ve got a hot priest (yes, I said what I said) and a reckless, morally grey art historian running around Europe fighting zombies and stealing paintings—and somehow, it works. Joe, the priest, is so repressed you just want to shake him and scream “let yourself be loved!” Meanwhile Percy? That man has villain energy and I ate it up like candy. The chemistry? Unholy. Literally. Like, “we-shouldn’t-be-doing-this-but-let’s-do-it-again” levels of tension. And when the angst hits? Oh baby, it hurts. But in that masochistic way we crave.
The plot is wild—in a chaotic, genre-blending way that keeps you flipping pages, unsure if you're about to cry, scream, or blush. And let me not even get started on the steam—because Lord forgive me, but I was not ready. It’s campy, emotional, absurd, and hot. Basically? It’s a mess—and I adored every second of it. If you like forbidden love, supernatural shenanigans, and the feeling of being dragged through a Vatican-stained fever dream of lust and undead chaos… read it.
And when you’re done? Call me. We need to scream about Percy.
I was so happy to get an ARC for this! Joe and Percy’s banter is so delightful. This is such a fun and light spooky season read. Its a fast read with lots of action to keep you engaged. The only reason for 4 stars is because the timeline sometimes felt choppy or rushed but nothing that made the story difficult to understand, and I was expecting a bit more spice. I’m looking forward to book 2!
Sinful Crimes for the Artistically Inclined is a wild mix of humour, romance, action, a bit of mystery, and drama that doesn’t hold back on its chaotic energy. From the start, it throws you right into the action, immediately setting a fast pace that doesn’t let up. It’s unapologetically over-the-top in a way that’s actually pretty charming, even if it might not be for everyone.
The story is written in an episodic format, like a series of mini-adventures all tied together into the larger plot. This works surprisingly well, as each mini-story keeps things moving, but it’s still building up the bigger picture as Percy and Joe’s relationship evolves.
Of course, Percy and Joe are definitely the heart of this book. Their dynamic is full of humour, banter, flirtation and opposites attract vibes. But honestly, Percy’s a bit of a hot mess. He’s an art historian/gentleman thief with a (worrying) thing for Caravaggio, a serious disregard for rules, and questionable decision-making. Joe, on the other hand, is a sweet yet brave priest with an unshakable moral compass. Despite their wildly different personalities, they balance each other out perfectly. Their chemistry is also undeniable and their emotional connection feels real, even if their communication skills could use some (A LOT OF) work. I do hope there’s less lying (or lying by omission) in the next book because it’s starting to get frustrating…and not in a fun way.
I did have a couple of issues with the book. First, starting the book I felt like I've walked into a story halfway through. It wasn't until later that I found out this book is actually a spin-off of the "Endymion College" trilogy. Since I didn’t read the trilogy, it was a little confusing and frustrating. I felt like I was missing out on some key backstory about the characters. And since there are hints and references to a shared history between the characters that aren’t fully explained I think a more detailed flashback or a proper recap might have helped fill in those gaps and make things clearer for new readers like me.
The second issue was the romantic drama/romantic sub-subplot. There’s a lot of back-and-forth about feelings involving Percy, Joe, Anna and Evelyn. The whole love square(?) thing felt like unnecessary soap opera drama. It didn’t really add much to the story, unless my frustration with it counts. If the goal was to create more angst for Percy and Joe, it wasn’t needed. They already have enough on their plate as it is and this just ended up being a distraction from the main plot.
That said, this book is an entertaining read that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s packed with twists, action, and plenty of humour that lightens up even the bloodiest moments. There are some great side characters and just enough angst and jealousy to keep things interesting without overdoing it. And the whole trip across Europe adds to the overall fun, making it feel like a nonstop adventure where chaos and surprises are always around the corner. I would "warn" that it is written in the third-person omniscient point of view. This lets you really get into the characters’ heads, but at times it can be a bit confusing.
Sinful Crimes for the Artistically Inclined is a fun and entertaining ride with two flawed but loveable main characters. Percy and Joe’s relationship is seriously a mix of frustration and sweetness that keeps you rooting for them…even when they make you want to shake some sense into them. I’m definitely curious to see where their story goes next and what kind of chaos they’ll create along the way.
I received a copy of this book from the author, and this is my unbiased review.
I just don't think this one is for me. I love the concept. Indiana Jones vibes, but make it gay. Sounds great! I just don't feel invested in the story and haven't connected to the characters, and I have read 195 pages. I tried, but this just isn't hitting right for me.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Note: I did not read the previous trilogy where these characters are first introduced.
4.5 stars! Where do I even begin? This book is first and foremost irreverent, chaotic, and bordering on crack!fic. If you are a fan of Alice Winters, this book will be absolutely up your alley. I do recommend reading the Endymion College series first, because I'll admit, when I began this book, I had no idea what to expect and ended up wildly and completely confused for the first couple of chapters. That all made sense when I realized there is an entire backstory in a previous trilogy. Despite this, I ended up grinning my way through this entire book. You just need to make sure you click yourself into the right ride in your mind. The POV is third person omniscient (rare!) and it is very irreverent rather than super serious.
Knowing what I know now about this book, would I still read it if I went back in time? Yes!
See below for the four criteria I use to decide whether and when to read a book
CHARACTERS: Percy and Joe are absolutely the highlights of this book. The way they reacted throughout this book, all those major moments where you'd expect to see a cliche response that moves the plot forwards a certain way? They completely blast through those expectations. I spent nearly the whole book grinning and at one point I turned a page and burst out laughing. I had to put the book down for a few minutes because I was just laughing, such was the extent that I wasn't expecting what was on the next page. Joe and Percy are wildly complex for all of their... abnormalities. They're really beautiful together and I adore their relationship as it very quickly develops and develops and develops.
PLOT: Part friends-to-lovers, part we're-doing-criminal-things-for-very-good-reasons, this first book follows Joe and Percy as they get together and figure out how to bring their lives together, in all of their atheism and Catholicism, their high-morals and grey-morals, their virgin vs. sexually experienced natures. For a main portion of the plot, Percy wants to reunite the Spear of Destiny with its sheath and Joe knows where it is. So they're attempting to steal it. In almost every way they are equals, balancing each other out with strengths that truly make them stronger as a team. Near the end we realize that there is a larger force at play, one that will continue into the next book and seems specifically focused on Percy and Joe now.
EMOTIONAL INTENSITY: There is no good/bad here. Sometimes I just want a low-investment entertainment read whereas other times a high-stakes 'I need a therapist to recover' is what I need.
3/5: medium. I'll admit, I was surprised that at one point I had a heart-thumping moment, considering how irreverent and comedic this story is.
CATHARTIC FULFILLMENT: Is the emotional journey worth it? Do I finish this book feeling that I've crested the wave of the climactic moment and everything has been settled, leaving me settled and fulfilled?
90%. I really didn't feel there was a major climactic event in this first book, but the book itself is so wildly chaotic that I was honestly just enjoying the ride for most of it. I do hope the stakes will amp up in the second book of the duology, but for book one, I'm content.
I am going to keep this review spoiler free because this book has some wild twists and turns that should be experienced first hand.
This book is quite different than my normal read, but I loved it. There is a lot going on from start to finish. A sexy priest and an art thief fall in love and go on vacation. Chaos reigns. There are demon possessions, exorcisms, zombies, nazi's, shady ex's, and murder. This book is a wild ride and I can't wait to read the second part because I need some answers!!!
I swear the banter and bickering between Percy and Joe is just epic! Absolutely loved this book :) I love how crazy Percy is and how innocent Joe is. It truly balances both characters out. Can’t wait to see what happens next
What a ride this was. Took me a second to really get invested, once I hit the 50% mark though, I just couldn't stop reading. I just know W.H. Lockwood is going to have me in a chokehold with this story because the world Percy and Joe live in feels so expansive. This was a perfect spooky type of story for the Halloween season, so I'm excited I got to read it now.
I'm haunted the most by Giordano's statement at the end of chapter 56?! What is that foreshadowing? What are you trying to tell me W.H.?! Four years down the road a different man?! I need to know, please.
Leo and Althea are just the cutest pair. I'm so rooting for them in whatever it is they do with Percy and Joe next.
Also, the Orient express?! No, because I just know Percy and Joe are in for some shenanigans. Ugh, I'm ready for book 2. Please and thank you.
I really need Joe and Percy to stop lying to one another and work on their communication. And yes, I'm still thinking about what the heck happened with Eve, Anna, and Percy. Respectfully, W.H. these unanswered questions are cruel.... But it's fine, I'm fine lol
Can't wait to read more by W.H. Lockwood, as this was the first book I have read by them!
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own*
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
this book was soooo unhinged and all over the place!! 😅😅 I loved every minute of it! what a wild ride ! I love Percy and Joe ❤️ diving in book 2 straight away!
This was my first book by the author and WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG?
The writing is fun and witty and so very smart. Percy is the most unpredictable character ever written. The things he says caught me off guard at every turn.
And Joe is the sweetest man to walk the earth. He must be protected at all costs.
I had so much fun reading this book and found myself laughing out loud so often that my husband demanded he get to read it as soon as I was done.
{Sinful Crimes for the Artistically inclined} Arc review by Jessie Melka __________•__________
“If I’d thought for one second I could have had these lips, do you really think I’d waste my time on anyone else’s?”
SHORT RESUME START:
Joe Bruno is a catholic priest and an exorcist he has a secret that would ruin his vows but maybe he should take the chance anyway
Percy Ashdown is an art historian and a demon killer or well you could say maybe just a killer falling for the most pure soul in the universe was never in the planes for him how could he ever truly be with someone after what he’s done
SHORT RESUME END:
Truth be told I was extremely frustrated throughout the whole book Percy needs to make up his fucking mind I don’t like Percy at all he has a lot of character development ahead of him. I do sincerely hope so. Not to like totally piss on him but he had some good moments too. I just think there’s so much going on that he needs to take a break for real and figure out who he is.
The biggest part of why I truly have so many complications with liking Percy’s character it’s all the lying that was so much of it and there was so much of it. There was so unnecessary but also what the hell is really going on between him, Anna and Eve??????
Joe is a literal angel really bless his soul. I cannot wait to figure out what secrets there is to him. I hope we get to see a bit more into his backstory in the next book
I didn’t really antidote as much as I would’ve liked to because it was simply so interested in the plot of it all. I couldn’t put it down seriously there was so much going on and I just needed to know what happened next. I also need to know what happens next if you read the book you know what I mean. ;)
“If we start, I won’t stop unless you tell me to. So if you’re looking for someone to save you from yourself, I’m afraid you’ve come to the wrong man.”
this book really is a high heat but fast burn. I think maybe they got together too quick but also they wouldn’t really have known of each other attraction if the previous event didn’t happen.
The sexual chemistry is off the chart and there were some really steamy moments that will forever be burned into my memory and I’m not sad one bit about it cause damn
I feel like I say this a lot, but I really am incredibly excited for the next book to the duology. There is so much more to this story I mean left on a cliffhanger we are just here hanging out waiting for the next to come
I read this book a 3.5 star and that might go up after after with the second book but we’ll see I do however I have big faith in the next one to come so I will cross my fingers that it will come as quick as possible
I probably will rewrite this review after the second book has come out, I just feel like I didn’t really get the whole view and I would really love to have that before I give my final statement. Wow that feels like I’m in court or something but seriously my MM lovers out there I do hope you like this I did but we’re not all the same of course anyways enjoy
(I received this advanced copy for free and I’m leaving this review voluntary)
⛪️Fast Burn 🖼️High Heat ⛪️Touch him and die 🖼️Opposites attract ⛪️Holiday from hell 🖼️Morally grey heroes ⛪️Supernatural assailants __________•__________
I absolutely loved this book! Both the plot and characters were... well, something—in the best possible way. Percy, especially, was the kind of character you hate to love. He's so immoral, yet somehow, he’s completely lovable.
There were plenty of plot twists that kept me on my toes, which I really enjoyed. The story was super silly at times, but that only added to the fun. The non-stop, over the top adventure was a blast to read.
That said, the story did feel a little chaotic in places. The timeline was sometimes choppy or rushed, which made certain parts feel inconsistent. While it wasn’t anything that made the story hard to understand, it was noticeable enough to keep me from giving it a full 5 stars, but I wouldn’t give it less than 4.5!
Overall, it was an incredibly enjoyable read, and I’m excited for book two!
I can look past a lot. Rushed pacing in which a potential romantic conflict is set up and solved in the first ninety pages? A fast-burn relationship built on characters already knowing one another but getting to witness none of their friendship and attraction in-scene before they're confessing their love? A much larger world established in previous books that really doesn't stand on its own well here? Sure, why not. But when a dick is unironically referred to as a throbbing glory? That, my friends, is where I apparently draw the line.
And you know what's sad? Percy and Joe have good banter! I like their dynamic! They are both equally insane and insane for one another! And many of the plot elements were actually really good, but Lockwood doesn't do anything with them. There's so much telling and no showing at all, so the depth the characters could have had was nonexistent.
This is a rollicking romp that is all over the place, in a good way! You will actually LOL, like out loud, a lot. It is absolutely ridiculous and irreverent. Joe and Percy don’t take themselves too seriously, and neither should you. They do know each other before the story starts, but it definitely feels like insta-lust/love. Percy is absolutely morally grayish black, and Joe has his moments as well. Priorities! Althea is fantastic.
I do hope to see better communication and less lying between them in future installments. You can do better, boys! I’m mostly looking at you, Percy.
It’s the mummy meets Indiana jones but one of them is actually insane, both are hopelessly delusional. Imagine being like “oh no if my literally unhinged boyfriend finds out about my dark past he’ll think less of me” while you casually step over a corpse you’re fixing to fuck in front of. Like no go on, tell me how well you think you’re doing at playing at normal, do tell.
This book has been a total revelation! One of those surprises you don’t see coming but that hooks you completely. This is my first read from W.H. Lockwood, but it’s definitely not going to be my last. This author is now on my must-follow list!
Let’s talk originality: this book has it all! It’s addictive, explosive, sexy, hilarious, and packed with adrenaline. I’m running out of adjectives here! It’s got that perfect mix of heartwarming, tender romance with the right amount of spice that we all love. It’s filled with adventure, paranormal twists, and vibes that transported me right into an Indiana Jones-style thrill ride.
The protagonists are brilliantly crafted. They’re a pair of lovable misfits—especially Percy, who is just… so perfectly Percy. And Joe? He’s hands down the most adorable character ever. Together, they’re a dynamic duo as their relationship builds through misunderstandings, wild adventures, tons of laughter (seriously, so many laughs!), and even a few deeply moving chapters.
This is the first in a duology, and while these characters made appearances in previous books, if you haven’t read those (like me), you might feel a bit lost at first. But the author handles it perfectly with short summaries and even some comic-style sketches that catch you up in a super fun way.
I devoured this book from chapter one. There’s never a dull moment—something’s always happening to keep you totally hooked and unable to stop reading.
I’m officially obsessed with this romance between these two lovable goofballs, and I can’t wait to dive into the second part of this duology because it promises even more amazing things to come.
Without a doubt, this is one of my top discoveries of the year, and I highly recommend it if you’re into MM romances that are original, packed with adventure, and have just the right amount of paranormal twists. Prepare to laugh, cry, and totally fall in love.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Sinful Crimes for the Artistically Inclined by W.H. Lockwood (she/her) Genre: MM romance (18+ scenes and themes), adventure, supernatural, touch him and die Rating: 4.5 ARC Review
This books was so fun and so witty and absolutely magnificent. It was like a breath of fresh air reading something queer that was horrid and yet happy and sexy and all the things I enjoy packed into one extremely beautiful book with stunning prose. It had one of the best written plots I have ever read, it was never too stagnant or heavy. In other words, it never felt like the plot was plotting for the sake of a plot, it all fell into place so smoothly. Everything worked together in unison. A virgin priest and a scandalous art historian who murders people? Absolutely, exactly what I needed. I don’t think I’ve read something that felt like such a breath of fresh air that has such a new voice in a long time. I loved every single that I was supposed to love, I hated every single character that I was supposed to hate (which is amazing for me, the ultimate underdog supporter). I am looking forward to the sequel so much. I genuinely don’t think I have been that invested in a novel in quite a bit. I hope this book gets everything it deserves because wow. The religious debauchery and blasphemy make this book so much fun. The catholic guilt but also the catholic pleasure. I hope to have a house like Percy one day, god the Caravaggio and the books. I want to go to Rome, Venice, Poland, it has been so long since I have read a book set through the world and it was such a pleasant surprise. I am so excited to see what Lockwood does with book two. I think it is going to be so much fun now that Joe and Percy’s relationship has evolved, I’m interested to see the dynamics of it and how the plot will continue. I’m so excited. GOD such a great book.
Thank you W.H. Lockwood for my arc copy (and I am so sorry for the late review, school has literally been my life for the last month 😭) and this delightful read! The sequel comes out January 17th and Sinful crime sis currently available on kindle unlimited!
“I should have known[…]That you would love Caravaggio this much. He was insane. And a killer.” “That doesn’t make him a bad person,” said Percy.”
Percy Ashdown, art historian/thief/murder for hire, has a new boyfriend, Joe Bruno. Joe was a man of the cloth until recently. Recently when Percy became too much of a temptation for Joe to resist. Now, for some reason, Percy invited Joe to come along with him on vacation. Only, it’s not vacation at all. It’s his job. There will definitely be art involved. There might also be stealing, kidnapping, zombies, and some murder. All things that Joe Bruno isn’t going to like and all things Percy Ashdown happens to be very good at. Will their relationship survive it?
There is nothing quite like this book. A perfect mix of action, paranormal, horror, madness and mayhem, all mixed in with hysterical humor, banter, romance and fantastic sexual tension.
Joe is a complete sweetheart who just might have more a of a dark side than even he knows.
Percy is your international man of mystery mixed with the perfect amount of morally gray that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I mean, who knows what he will do next to get himself and Joe in a mess or out of the last one.
I had the absolute honor to read this book when it was being released one short section at a time and WH Lockwood’s writing is pure magic. Clever and precise, there are few out there writing romantic horror and no one is quite as wild and chaotic as Lockwood. The humor and horror are the perfect mix. The chaos adds just enough to keep you guessing and gasping along with the twists without any skepticism as to whether something was done just for drama’s sake. Why? Because Percy. Something lovely and romantic? Of course, Percy would. Something diabolical, violent, and reckless? Of course, Percy would.
I have read a lot of books but Percy and Joe are one of my favorite couples. I have read a lot of books but WH Lockwood is one of my favorite authors. There’s nothing like it. I highly, highly recommend.
“It had all the hallmarks of fate or true love or some great romance.”
