One day, Kodi Roscoe was living with the man she thought would be her husband. The next she was single, living on her bestfriends couch working as a barista, and making friends with a toddler on the ice cream aisle. That is until she sees an ad for a high profile client in need of a nanny. Maverick Hart, center for the Tampa Bay Manta Rays, didn’t want to hire a nanny but being a single dad with the start of the season coming up and losing his daughter in the ice cream aisle forces him to reconsider. When the strikingly beautiful woman who his daughter ran into shows up at his doorstep for an interview, it feels like a kismet experience. She’s just supposed to be the nanny but one shot to his Hart and it was game over.
Katelyn is a Florida native, born and raised. She lives with her long term partner, Adam and their two dogs, Yogi the goldendood and Smoosh the pocket pittie mix. She’s not a fan of being outdoors but enjoys the occasional excursion to the mountains, hoping to one day experience life there. Returning to her love of reading when the COVID pandemic struck, she rediscovered she's a fan of all genres and all things spicy. She gravitates most towards hockey romances while ironically enough she isn’t a follower of hockey. Her writing is a labor of love outside of her full time Nanny job to the cutest two under two. If she’s not reading or writing, you can find her playing cozy games on the nintendo switch, in a Dungeons & Dragons campaign, or binge watching bad reality TV.
This is an amazing feel good hockey x single dad x nanny romance. Kodi Roscoe James is such a relatable character, and Mav is to die for. The story kicks off when Bella, Mavs kiddo literally runs into Kodi in a store, and I think that is the most perfect meet cute for this type of story. There were so many precious moments between them all that I adored, (choccy chip pancakes anyone?)and really made their relationship blossom into more in a believable way.
(Oh, and there's spice! 😏😏🌶️)
The side characters all felt real, not just placeholders for their own stories which is important to me. I don't normally read interconnected standalones because I tend to like the original couple the best and get bored, but I'm already invested in the sequels and their stories.
I look forward to this upcoming author's future works!
This book was freaking amazing. I’ve only read a couple hockey romances but this one made me wanna read more I couldn’t put it down I love the characters. The plot was interesting. Kept you hooked from beginning to end. Everyone needs a maverick 🤤. The relationship he has with his little girl is everything. I need book 2 and 3 like yesterday
if you love these tropes: single dad x nanny hockey romance forced proximity HE FALLS FIRST
i am begging you..READ THIS <3
i LOVED maverick and his daughter bella so much and kodi is the best person for those two. you can tell how well she fits in the family and i loved her sassiness. mav is the perfect dad to bella and he loves her so much, but i also love how much his teammates love the both of them. always willing to help and bella has the best role models. kodi and i could definitely be besties. i noticied so many things we have in common and she loves pop punk!!! character backstory and the plot was chef's kiss. spice was SPICY, don't even get me started on the one bed okay!
i laughed so much while reading this and there is definitely someone that deserves a deck in the face but you'll have to read it to find out! i found myself kicking my feet, giggling, and also wanting to scream/cry/throw up!
HAPPY RELEASE DAY to Shot to the Hart!!! it's available on KU, and you should totally read it <3
———————————— thank you so much Katelyn for sending me an eARC in exchange for my honest review. all thoughts are my own.
This book was so cute! Every now and then I’ll read a hockey romance and I love it every time. This one is hockey player x single dad x nanny! This book hit me a little hard in the beginning with the breakup stuff and I didn’t expect to get affected by it but it was such a real story. Maverick on the other hand is such a humble and adorable man. The cutest father to Bella. The relationship the hockey team has with Bella is soo cute. I love that she has a family with them even if her mother isn’t around. Even though Bella has such a cute family, he ends up needing help taking care of her so he goes looking for a nanny. That is where kodi comes in. Their little meet cute was natural and perfect for the story. Reading this book, I kept saying kodi is so me. lol the banter and her style is perfect. I loved the “one question” and “one answer” convos. The inner monologues of their feelings toward each other were funny and spicy. They struggled for a while to act on their feelings and the tension was everything. I love me a good fxck it moment! I didn’t expect Mav to have a dirty mouth like that but sheesh I wasn’t complaining. The spicy parts were delicious. As a family, they are super cute together. I think they got the best ending they could have. I hope there’s another book coming whether it’s more of them or tatum’s story with snippets of mav and kodi. I would love a book about Nik! He’s hilarious and would love to see his character development. This book is just a cute and a bit spicy hockey romance. Loved it!

I got the pleasure of reading Shot to the Hart by @Katelyn 📚✍🏻 Shot to the Hart is a sports romance with a single dad x nanny trope..
This book made me feel every emotion and I loved our MC’s Maverick, Kodi and little Bella. The authors writing is beautiful ❤️ while we have friends, found family, banter and love there is also sadness throughout the book through loss, grief, finding yourself again and the struggles of being a single father. I absolutely adored this book and would definitely recommend it to all sports romance fans.. I rated this book 4.5/5 ⭐️with 3/5 spice🌶️

i don't even know where to begin on how much i loved maverick & kodi's story <3
shot to the hart is about a single dad maverick who plays hockey, and he needs to find a nanny to help care for his daughter, bella. when the woman who finds his daughter in the ice cream aisle one day shows up for an interview, he knows it was meant to be.
he gets her 'lady products', calls them 'my girls' and there's just so much more feet kickin' hair twilin' and giggling that happens throughout kodi & maverick's story
ugh and don't even get me started on the songs on the playlist <3
DANDELIONS IS LITERALLY ONE OF THE MOST ADORABLE AND CUTESY ROMANTIC SONGS AND I FULLY FELT THIS BOOK WAS THAT
i cannot tell you how many times i was squealing and blushing and just screaming from how cute they are <3
my favorite tropes: dual pov, he falls first, nanny, single dad, HOCKEY, found family, FORCED PROXIMITY
thank you so much katelyn snyder for my ARC copy of Shot to the Hart in exchange for an honest review <3
"Shot to the Hart" is so bingeable and the perfect hockey romance, Single Dad, Nanny book! I didn't want this one to end! It was the perfect cozy hockey romance.
I loved how Maverick cared so deeply for his daughter Bella and wanted to protect her heart at all costs.
Kodi's long term boyfriend, Andy broke up with her stating that they both want different things.
After two months of wollowing in self pity Kodi's friend Darcy takes her out dancing and drinking.
Kodi meets Maverick Hart who happens to be a hockey player for North Carolina Firestorm. She has no clue who he was.
Kodi lands an interview for an au pair position with Mr. Hart but doesn't know he is the guy she met that night. He immediately hires Kodi to be Bella's Nanny. Kodi falls for his daughter, Bella first.
When the one bed hits! 🙌 One bed between Kodi and Maverick....yes, please 🥵 Ohhhhh the spice will be spicing!
"Did you just Boop me, Darlin"?
"Shot to the Hart" is like a breath of fresh air! It had the perfect amount of spice, along with a great plot and characters.
I loved Maverick!!! Talk about a book hubby! The relationship he had with his daughter, putting her first; always making sure she was ok just makes your ovaries explode! Then you bring in sweet Kodi! She’s got fire and wit! Taking on the nanny role for Maverick. Through in some bffs from high school and some players from the team and you’ve got the perfect setup for insta love!
Shot To The Hart is a fun and spicy hockey romance with single dad Maverick and nanny Kodi. They meet accidentally once and both wish they would have connected more. Then she shows up to interview to be a nanny for his daughter. Of course sparks fly but they both try to hide from them. Both had amazing found families with best friends. I loved all the side characters so much. Kodi and Maverick were well written as well.
This was a cute read about a single father, professional hockey player who needs a nanny for his daughter. They live together, she's great with his daughter and there is an instant attraction between the two. This is not a new story line, if you're into hockey reads, you've probably read this before. So although it wasn't unique, it was a fun read with some hotness, cuteness and HEA. 3.5 to 4 stars from me.
‘What are you doing, baby? These hips are only supposed to be dancing on me. Now say goodbye to your friends, I’d like to take you home’
Maverick ❤️ Kodi
‘One Question. One answer’
These two are super cute!! Just when she thought she was down on her luck, a toddler crashes into her, changing her world forever. Mav is the cinnamon roll of all cinnamon rolls with a gorgeous possessive streak over his new nanny.
It’s a quick and cute read and I just inhaled the words in a day.
This book is the perfect palette cleanser if you’re in a reading funk. I could read this every week and never get bored
I thought that this was an absolutely adorable hockey romance! A small amount of spice and a cute meet cute. 😂 I recommend if you want a sweet short hockey romance book. You don’t have to know anything about the sport but you can def learn a little bit about it. Maverick is the sweetest dad ever and an absolute cinnamon roll. Koda is a sweety and I’m happy she gets her happily ever after.
I loved this book!!! The FMC and MMC had great communication with one another and I love the Hockey Player/Nanny trope. I loved the “can I ask you a question?” game and ALL of the cute nicknames throughout the book. I can’t wait to read the second book!
✅ dual POV ✅ possessive but golden retriever MMC ✅ she’s the nanny ✅ one bed ✅ nicknames ✅ found family
✅Forced Proximity ✅Nanny x Single Dad ✅Keep the Jersey on ✅Obsessed/Jealous (in all the right ways) H ✅Slow Burn 🔥 ✅He notices the little things
Wow!! I loved this book. I can’t believe this was the author’s debut novel. This book was a ton of fun. If you are in your hockey romance era add to your TBR asap.
Absolutely blown away with this debut hockey romance! The characters are SO good! I loved Maverick and his daughter Bella so, so much! I loved how amazing of a dad he is and how well he takes care of her and puts her first! Kodi was adorable as well! I loved her personality and thought she was so fun! She was such a great au pair for little Bella and I loved that from their first run in (literally) I could tell she would be amazing! 💖 I loved Mav and Kodi’s chemistry and that even though they tried to deny their feelings, it was no use! They are made for each other and it shows! 😍 overall, a perfect book to get you out of a slump that will have you laughing and giddy throughout!
this was such a deliciously sweet read! Fab book from a first time author and I’m excited to see what the rest of the gang get up to in (hopefully) more books in the series
Mav needs a nanny, Kodi needs an opportunity after a bad break up. After bumping into each other over ice cream, fate brings them back together when Kodi interviews for a nanny position with cutie Bella
Both have had heartbreak in their past & suffer from anxiety which was well written
🏒 hockey romance 🏒 mental health rep 🏒 found family 🏒 girl gang 🏒 he falls first 🏒 spicy
Who doesn’t move a hockey player/nanny romance trope? Mav and Kodi instantly click thanks to little Bella’s runaway matchmaker skills! This book had me laughing, tearing up and giggling all over the place! The side characters were a hoot too!! I hope we get to know them in future books! The spice is a bit of a slow burn but let me tell you when it arrives…wowza! Mav is such a perfect book boyfriend/daddy!
I was lucky to receive an ARC. All options are my own.
Such a cute hockey romance !! Amazing Nanny romance at that ! The dedication was spectacular and was evident throughout the book as well. Great read, so cute and adorable
ARC kindly provided for the author in exchange for an honest review
Another new author that I'm in love with and another debut that's going to my favorites list! Katelyn Snyder captivated me from the prologue, that left me with mixed feelings for a certain character, gave me a love story that progresses at a perfect pace and one of the sweetest and most beautiful couples with Kodi, Maverick and little Bella. Also, I love that in this book both main characters have their respective group of friends and they all get along so well when they're together!
The book starts by showing us Kodi's breakup with her boyfriend, a situation that left me with many doubts about this despicable character that were cleared up very soon, and that helps us to know the moment in which our heroine's crisis began. Kodi is a girl who loves children and her job as a nanny, and after the fiasco with Andy she starts to feel insufficient, insecure about her personality and throughout the book she starts to realize many things about that relationship (something that I loved). Another super positive thing about her character is the circle of friends who are ALWAYS there for her and with whom the author gives us the funniest moments too.
Maverick is a professional hockey player and single father who recently suffered a loss that destabilized his life. Mav is a true book boyfriend: kind, attentive, has the most beautiful and considerate details for Kodi and knows how to listen to what she needs, but he's also very afraid of letting anyone into his life, and little Bella's, so his path throughout the book is not going to be easy at all. Luckily, Maverick also has the support of his dad and his teammates when he needs it the most (those moments of the boys taking care of Bella were really sweet).
Kodi & Maverick (and Bella too) meet when the little girl accidentally runs into Kodi in the ice cream aisle while they're both shopping for groceries, it doesn't seem like the most romantic first encounter in the history of romance, BUT believe me when I tell you that it is! One of my favorite things about this story was that Maverick can't stop thinking about Kodi from that moment on and how fate brings them together in the most unexpected way for both of them: with Kodi becoming Bella's new nanny, which forces both MCs to spend more and more time together, and thanks to which Katelyn gives us the most ordinary and tender moments between them. I also really enjoyed reading Kodi & Bella forming a bond in a natural way, Mav paying attention to every detail about Kodi and always giving her the when she needs it, I LOVED that they both learned to trust again with each other's help and the beautiful ending that the author gave us!
Without a doubt, Katelyn is a new author that I don't plan on letting go of! This world that she presents to us in her first book promises a lot, and if this is the quality that she gave us in her first book, I can't even imagine what's coming for her (and for us as readers).
This was a super cute single dad/ nanny hockey romance! I eat these up every time and this was a great debut from Katelyn! I had a lot of fun reading this. Mav and Kodi were super cute, and I loved that Bella remained a big part of the story! Sometimes, I feel like the kids kind of get thrown into the background, but that wasn’t the case here and I really enjoyed Bella’s character! I also loved their communication, and am especially a fan of there not being a third act breakup! This was a super cute read and I can’t wait to see who comes next!
I love this spicy hockey romance! It is a single-parent hockey player nanny romance. Maverick Hart has his hands full of caring for his baby girl Bella, while also managing his hockey career that requires frequent travel. His friend pushes him to find an au pair that can care for Bella and sometimes bring her to his away games. After Bella runs away in the grocery store, he sees her running towards a stunning woman who scoops her up. Mav is surprised at Bella's happy reaction to Kodi, who was a nanny for 6 years of experience. Once she is hired, she is offered accommodations at his home while she cares for Bella. Mav and Kodi start to feel the heat between them grow. After Mav sees the love Kodi gives to Bella he knows she's his forever!
𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁: Loved it! I always like the single dad trope but Mav takes it to next level and is the best girl dad ever. Seriously fell in love with the characters from the start and you will too. I was shocked to find out this was a debut novel can’t wait for more from this friends group!
Maverick is a single dad playing hockey for the NHL Tampa Manta Rays, he’s been there two years and has found his home. He has an adorable 2.5yr old and she is his world. With the recent passing of his mom his dad can no longer watch her full time during this upcoming season so he’s going to be forced to find a live in Au Pair. The other day he lost her at the grocery store and found her with a gorgeous woman in the ice cream asile, it just showed he needs help.
Kodi’s life is a bit upside down right now. The family she worked with just moved out of the country, her long time boyfriend just broke up with her. This has landed her on her besties couch working at the local coffee shop. But after running into an adorable little girl at the grocery store it really sparked her wanting to find another Au Pair type job, kids are her passion. So it’s time to start applying.
A few weeks later Kodi goes to an interview for the job she applied to. The door is opened by the hot single dad she met at the grocery story, well isn’t that just kismet. No surprise Kodi gets the job and moves into Mav’s house. But can that spark they felt be put aside? It’s a lot easier said then done to keep the way they are drawn to each other under wraps, especially when their are little eyes and lots of hearts on the line. This will be one interesting hockey season!
𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒀𝒐𝒖’𝒍𝒍 𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒅:
* Hockey Player x Live in Au Pair * Single Dad * He Falls First * Forced Proximity * Texting Threads * Great Friends/Found Family * Dual POV * Slow Burn w/ Spice🔥
Katelyn’s debut novel is wonderful! This story has some of my favorite tropes, is written so well, is paced perfectly, and is consistent with the main plot line. I loved getting to know Katelyn’s writing style and am excited to read more in this series. With an adorable meet cute that seems to be kismet, the two MCs seem to be made for each other, even though they fight it at first. Katelyn's narrative is full of heart, passion, and romance.
Maverick is a single dad, about to start his hockey season. He has always been reluctant to hire a nanny, but realizes it’s time when he has a scare in the ice cream aisle. His daughter, Bella is full of energy and is sassy. I adored her character. Even more so, he keeps finding himself in the space of the same, attractive woman. And when she shows up at his door to interview for the nanny position, he hires her immediately.
Kodi is getting over a breakup. When she first meets Maverick, she has no clue who he is, a pro hockey player for the local team. She definitely doesn’t know that he is going to answer the door when she arrives for her nanny interview. I loved Kodi and Bella’s interactions and watching their relationship grow. Although Maverick falls for Kodi first, Kodi is head over heels for Bella. As she continues to dance around Maverick in their forced proximity she slowly develops feelings for him too.
Katelyn gives us so much in this book. Wonderful main characters, loveable side characters, a child who is definitely the star, and romance and spice that is pure perfection! She gives her readers chemistry, tension, witty banter, just everything that makes this a fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to get to more from this series!
As always, review any author notes before reading.
Tropes: 🏒Single Dad MMC 🖤Nanny FMC 🏒Forbidden Romance 🖤Hockey Romance 🏒Found Family 🖤Forced Proximity 🏒He Falls First
Shot to the Hart by Katelyn Snyder is a heartwarming and passionate hockey romance that brings together two characters each carrying their own burdens and longing for a fresh start. The story begins with Kodi Roscoe, who is blindsided by her longtime boyfriend Andy breaking up with her, leaving her not only heartbroken but also homeless. With no other options, she crashes on her friend Darcy’s couch while juggling shifts as a barista and applying for nanny jobs in hopes of finding stability.
Enter Maverick Hart, a Tampa NHL player and devoted single father to adorable two-year-old Bella. Maverick’s journey as a parent hasn’t been easy; Bella’s mother walked out on them when Bella was an infant, and since then, Maverick has been her only caretaker, with occasional support from his father, who is still grieving the recent loss of Maverick’s mother to cancer. But when a harrowing experience at the grocery store highlights the challenge of managing Bella on his own, Maverick decides he needs a nanny.
The connection between Kodi and Bella is instant, and Maverick can’t help but notice the bond his new nanny builds with his daughter. As they grow closer, Kodi’s warmth and resilience draw Maverick in, challenging him to open his heart again. But he’s haunted by doubts: What if things don’t work out? And what if Bella’s biological mother returns?
This debut novel is as much about family as it is about romance. It beautifully captures the tender, sometimes messy journey of healing and learning to love again. With engaging characters, a swoon-worthy romance, and a strong focus on the complexities of blended families, Shot to the Hart is a fantastic start to the series. I’m already eagerly awaiting the next book!
This book was EVERYTHING! The tropes, the characters, the slow burn—it was all so perfect. Maverick was such an adorable and caring dad. Like, how can someone be so worried yet so sweet and gentle at the same time? I’m literally speechless. The way he interacted with Arabella melted my heart.
And that first meeting?? Oh my gosh, it was the cutest thing ever! Kodi and Arabella meeting in the ice cream aisle, and then Maverick showing up all panicked looking for his daughter—SO CUTE. Then, when Kodi shows up for the nanny interview and Maverick opens the door?! I was screaming, “This is meant to be!”
The tropes in this book are everything I love in a romance: 🏒 Single Dad/Nanny Romance ❤️ Slow Burn 👨👧 Found Family 🍦 Cute Meet-Cute 🏘️ Friends as Family 🥅 Sports Romance
Kodi was also such a relatable character. As an e-reader and book lover, her little moments of reading and escaping into stories made her feel so real and down-to-earth. I loved how her personality shone through not just in her interactions with Maverick and Arabella but also in her love for books.
The dynamic between Kodi and her friends was amazing too. Her friend group brought so much life and humor to the story. They felt like the kind of friends you’d want in your own life, always supportive and fun.
I really, REALLY hope this turns into a series because I need more about this friend group (like, give me their stories, please!). Katelyn Snyder absolutely nailed this debut, and I cannot wait to see what she writes next! If you love sweet, slow-burn romances with a single dad and nanny trope, this is a must-read.

Tropes ⬇️ 🏒 Single Dad x Nanny 🌼 Forced Proximity 🥞 Found Family 🏒 He Falls First 🌼 Slow Burn 🥞 Hockey Players with southern drawl (i may have made this one up myself, lol 🥴🤓)
i’m going to start this one of with 2 words.. 👏🏻 DADDY 👏🏻 MAV 👏🏻 😩🥵
This one was so good! The story follows a single dad, left without notice to raise his daughter alone. Maverick does what he can to provide for her but it’s getting harder as a rising hockey star. Kodi is an out of work nanny that has been couch surfing after a devastating breakup, working at a coffee shop and trying to land her next gig. Succumbing to the peer pressure from friends and family, Maverick opens his home to applications for help raising his daughter Bella. Kodi finally lands a job interview for nanny position, and it’s none other than Maverick Hart that opens the door.
The banter these two have and the development in their relationship is beautiful! They have an organic chemistry and Mav is such a caring, thoughtful MMC… and 🥵
Kodi falls in love with him (same, lol 💁🏻♀️) and their relationship grows into a relatable, loving, flourishing depiction of what a healthy blended family can be!
This book gave all the feels, and FEELS 🌶️ 🤓😋 The characters are top notch, nothing was overdone or too much. The spice was 😙🤌🏻 and 🥵 where it needed to be but it wasn’t the entire plot of the book! Plus, you can never go wrong with a little hockey romance 😏🏒
Shot to the Hart was a fabulous read and it was not what I expected. You have Maverick, who is a single father who only wants the best for his daughter and at the same time a professional hockey player. While he has relied on his father to help with his daughter, Bella, Maverick knows he will have to bring in a nanny to help. This is where Kodi comes into the picture, someone who used to nanny for a couple who recently moved, who was dumped by her long time boyfriend, and now sleeping on her friends couch. Kodi decides maybe another nanny gig is what she needs to get back on her feet.
Maverick hires Kodi and immediately the attraction is there. The love he sees in her towards his daughter is something he can't look past. However, Maverick's past is filled with heartbreak and he doesn't want that to happen to him or to his daughter. Over time Kodi is starting to have feelings for her boss but she knows that line cannot be crossed. With the help of Kodi's friends and Maverick's teammates/family, both are pushed into each others arms and in the end a family is found and hearts are mended.
Shot to the Hart was a great read for a rainy afternoon. The love and compassion the characters show for each other just warms the heart. I forgot to mention the spice...oh the spice is worth reading the book. Him falling first and found family is a great combination for a good book. For being a debut novel for Katelyn, she did a fantastic job and I can't wait to read more of her work.
