Sometimes the only way to outsmart a scandal is to find a crown big enough to silence it
Muriel Beau, country baker turned heiress, can't stop instigating outrage. She discards two arranged engagements, then further antagonizes in Kent society by publicly proposing to a baron at a ball. His rejection leaves her with no choice but to flee to the city and to secure a coronet so splendid that her peers will forget her debacles. The glitter of the London courts convinces Muriel that it's possible to find the future she dreams of, until she finds herself entangled in yet another escapade--one that may cost her more than her crumbling reputation.
After years of serving as a privateer under an assumed name, Captain Erik Draycott, heir to Draycott Castle and soon to assume his uncle's title of Earl, returns to his London home to find it in disrepair thanks to his longtime nemesis. A staunch bachelor intent on returning to his ship, the captain now finds himself in dire need of a wife. But while his pauper status causes the potential London brides to turn their noses up at him, the captain is shocked when his mentor encourages him to retire and take a wife. But while his alleged pauper status causes the potential London brides to turn their noses up at him, the ladies of Kent have no such qualms and are eager to fill his coffers with their fathers' wealth. When he encounters the unconventional Muriel Beau and she becomes embroiled in his risky undertaking, Erik is torn between staying put to protect this enchanting country lady and heeding the call of the high seas.

I received a digital copy of To Catch a Coronet from the author and JustRead Publicity Tours LLC. I am not required to write a positive review in any way or for any reason. My honest and unbiased opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on the writing style, the pacing, and the story’s content, ensuring transparency and reliability.
I think I may have found a new favorite historical romance author! If you like witty banter, Jane Austen era romances and political intrigue and action then you have to read To Catch a Coronet.
I immediately fell in love with the characters. The hero of the story? Probably one of my new favorite heroes. This book had everything I love in a fantastic historical romance book. I was smiling so much while reading it, and I even hugged the book (which doesn't happen very often.) I also stayed up until almost 2am binge reading the rest of the book. Grace Hitchcock, if all of your books are this enjoyable then you have a new fan for life!

I was blessed to read Grace Hitchcock's debut Regency romance for endorsement last Thanksgiving. Here is my official endorsement:
With ingredients of romance, history, danger, and her signature humor, Grace Hitchcock has baked up a delectable treat with her debut Regency Romance. Long-time Regency fans will devour this fresh take on ballroom romance as eagerly as Captain Erik Draycott did Muriel Beau’s creations. Picking up this read won’t add to your waistline but it will leave you pleasantly satisfied and craving the next installment of Hitchcock’s take on Regency romance. ~ Crystal Caudill, Carol Award Finalist and author of Counterfeit Love
But that is not all I want to say about her book. After all, you're only allowed so many words in an endorsement. This probably has to be my favorite Grace Hitchcock book so far. And that is saying something because I absolutely adored The White City, now renamed Miss Wylde in the White City.
Muriel's baking history and insecurities were ones I could identify with. I cannot tell you how horrified I felt for her in the first chapter. And then her first meeting with Erik? Oh my goodness!! I was rolling with laughter. Without giving too much away, I was thrilled by the adventure and danger aspect of the romance story. You know me. There is nothing I like more than a good villain or two, and this one had me guessing until the reveal--although I did have my suspicions.
Believe me, this is a story you don't want to miss. AND Grace included a scone recipe at the end!!! You better believe that I'm going to cook up a batch or two.
Though I don't read a lot of regency romance I do enjoy it. The author has now ventured into regency romance from her Gilded Age books and I'm all for it. She has made the characters come alive with the author's attention to details. Once I started reading, I was hooked with a well-developed story line. A charming tale with humor, romance, intrigue, danger and mystery that will have me on the lookout for more in this series.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
An endearingly unorthodox heroine and a dashingly secretive hero provide the perfect recipe for a delicious romance seasoned with smart wit, swoony kisses, and surprising twists. Muriel and Erik quickly had my heart and my allegiance from their adorable meet cute to the sweet epilogue - and all the layers of intrigue in between. Grace Hitchcock’s first foray into the Regency era is a smashing success, and I look forward to what the rest of the series has to offer!
What a fun heroine! Muriel Beau is passionate about baking and enjoys spending time baking in her small country village. When she becomes an heiress as a result of her mother's second marriage, Muriel is seen as unconventional. In the opening pages, Muriel proposes during a dance and is turned down. In shame, she flees to get ahead of the gossip. I love that the romance she finds in London was a slow burning one.
While the entire novel was engaging, I especially enjoyed the last quarter of the novel as several pieces came together at once.
I look forward to the next novel in this Regency Series. My gratitude to the author and publisher for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
“Haven’t you ever had a dream that was so dear it made your heart ache?” He blinked, clearly taken aback at her reply. “I suppose everyone has.”
This book by Grace Hitchcock was such a pleasant and fun read. This historical romance set during the Regency Era was filled with privateers, spies, mystery, earls, barons, and a sweet little baker. Oh, also the Prince Regent makes an appearance as well. So, this book has it all. From the first adorable meet-cute, to danger, and ultimately to love and happily ever after. It was such an adventurous book. Mr. Warrick was quite the romantic, and certain scenes stole my breath with his chivalry and tenderness. I highly recommend to any lovers of the Regency Era who adore adventure and handsome heroes and adorable heroines. *I was given a copy of this book by the pupublisher and this is my honest opinion.
My first time reading Grace Hitchcock and it will definitely not be my last! I have found a new must read author. To Catch a Coronet was a pure delight from the first page to the very last.
This historical was bursting at the seams with wit, charm, swoon, and suspense. A wonderfully clever romantic adventure that keeps the reader glued to the pages. With faith and grace a constant theme the main characters learn and grow through their experiences, reflecting on past mistakes and shortcomings, while navigating a dangerous plot.
I don’t want to spoil anything with details. Just know that you fall absolutely head over heels for Muriel and Erik. From their mistaken meet-cute, to their unexpected alliance, and their blazing chemistry, this is a story you hate to see end.
I am eagerly looking forward to the next in the series, releasing later this spring.
She needs a husband, but is he looking for a wife?
What started as a nice Regency romance really took off into an exciting adventure of danger, intrigue, betrayal, and, of course, romance. To Catch A Coronet is the first book in the Best Laid Plans series as well as the first book that I've read from Grace Hitchcock. It, however, will not be my last.
I quite enjoyed Grace Hitchcock's blend of genres in To Catch A Coronet. There is something about a historical romance with suspense that is just fun to read and I tend to gravitate towards them when I find series (or standalones) like Best Laid Plans.
Grace Hitchcock has a real winner with To Catch A Coronet and I'm looking forward to finding more of the same romantic sparks, mystery, humor, and historical detail in the next Best Laid Plans novel when it releases...
(I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
This story starts off with a scandal. Muriel has proposed to a man in the middle of a ballroom. And he rejects her! Now she has to find someone of high rank to marry or else she will be scandalized forever. Muriel is a baker and heiress and she meets Captain Erik who is also soon to be an Earl. This meet cute was fun as they thought that the other was a servant. They soon discovered that was not the case. I loved watching their relationship progress. I also liked that there was spying involved in the story and a mystery of who the bad guys were. I really liked the baking scene and the ending of the story with Muriel and Eriks interactions. Overall a good story and I recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
With a flowing plot and likable characters, To Catch a Coronet by Grace Hitchcock was easy reading. It entertained from the start and quickly ushered me into the world of its characters. Erik’s strength, devotion, and good looks made him an ideal Regency romance hero. Muriel stared out a silly and immature but learned important lessons. Their romance made me smile. With the addition of suspense and secret identities, the plot clipped right along. This story was more average than outstanding, but it was easy to escape into this Regency Romance.
Overall, To Catch a Coronet by Grace Hitchcock was a fun diversion with the expected happy ending. It commences Grace Hitchcock’s Best Laid Plans series, and I’m open to reading subsequent novels in this series.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided a copy of this book by the author or publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
Regency books usually aren't my usual genre to read but this one tempted me. I'm so glad I took a chance, as this was one of the best Regency books I've read. The author's details of the historical events intertwined with fictional additions, made this book come to life. The main characters are well-developed with many layers, and I enjoyed watching them unravel. Royalty and privateer adventures what's not to like?
Some very amusing moments made me laugh and others where the characters were uncomfortable and embarrassed. Then there were times of lies, deceit, and danger. Even a budding romance. This story had it all. The story had me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't put it down.
Everything wrapped up nicely in the end. I also loved the Christian aspect of the story and look forward to reading the next book in the series. Highly recommend.
I received an ARC for Netgalley and voluntarily chose to review it. All opinions are my own.
Delightful! Funny, charming page-turner, romantic, with danger and traitors in their midst, a sweet baker turned heiress and a dashing captain turned earl. I couldn't stop turning pages in this charming regency tale! Author Grace Hitchcock has penned a winner in her first Regency romance. I cannot wait for the rest of the series!
Some quotes from To Catch a Coronet: "She was the one who had ignored sage counsel and run straight into a scandal that would live beyond her years."
"Do not allow a title to mar our judgement of the man's character, which should be far superior to his title if a marriage is to work." I loved how she took to heart her father's warning about seeking character above a title.
"Her shortcomings were growing more and more evident despite Lady Ingram's assurance that Muriel's vast dowry would go a long way in smoothing out any inadequacies." "Haven't you ever had a dream that was so dear it made your heart ache?"
"Lord, you know the desires of my heart. I've waited so long for a family of my own-for a gentleman who sees beyond my lack of rank."
"My whole life is the sea. I do not know how to anchor myself to land when my heart longs for the open water."
I thoroughly enjoyed this story of Captain Erik Draycott, Earl of Draycott, and Miss Muriel Beau, Baker of Chilham starting with their hilarious meeting to their adventurous conclusion. I highly recommend To Catch a Coronet.
Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own. Also, I cannot wait to try the "Secret Recipe for Muriel's Scones" at the end!
After a disastrous proposal gone wrong, Muriel, sets her sights on making an advantageous match in London, but finds herself swept away by a man more dashing than her wildest dreams.
An endearing historical rom-com, with a delightful heroine that I couldn't help but adore. Muriel is daring and creative, at times impulsive, but she has the best of intentions. An entertaining read with an enjoyable romance, likable heroes, and a healthy dose of intrigue.
Erik Draycott is a man with a strong moral code, and a low tolerance for devious games. I loved how he saw Muriel's heart, and was attracted to her for all the right reasons.
Overall, this was such a wonderful read from beginning to end. Each book by this author just gets better and better!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
"To Catch a Coronet" follows the journey of Muriel Beau, a passionate baker from a small country village. She inherits a large dowry from her mother's second husband, causing society to view her as unconventional because she doesn't bow down to the rest of societal rules. After a failed proposal at a dance, one that she made and was turned down, Muriel escapes to London to avoid the gossip mongers.
The slow-burning romance she discovers in London captivated me throughout this delightful historical Rom-Com. The charming lead characters, Muriel and Captain Erik Draycott heir to Draycott Castle and soon to assume his uncle's title of Earl, shared special moments that warmed my heart and many moments of witty humor as they teased one another. I truly loved how their attraction stemmed from inner qualities rather than just looks, as they both were looking for acceptance and kindness for who they truly were.
Along with a cast of wonderful side characters, the story is colorfully sparked with royalty, nobility, privateer adventurers, spies, and traitors who are supporting Napoleon. Who is behind the traitorous actions? As suspicions arise and shocking twists surface, the story continuously remains engaging with seamless writing pulling everything together piece by piece, and one delicious baked item after another.
This novel is brimming with adventure, witty dialogues, (a scone recipe at the end) suspense, action, and sweet romance. This book also delivers a faith-inspired message that shows both the main characters seeking help from Heaven as they face hard and dangerous things.
Author Grace Hitchcock skillfully crafts a delightful Regency tale that impressed me and makes me look forward to the next book in the series. This is one book I highly recommend to all Regency readers.
I thoroughly enjoyed To Catch a Coronet by Grace Hitchcock, especially its clever title. This is the first of her novels I've read, but I understand setting this story in Regency England is a departure since most of her books take place in the Gilded Age.
This story has it all - friendship, romance, mystery, adventure, fashion, faith, and delicious descriptions of baked goods. Both the heroine Muriel and hero Erik are 'fish out of water.' She was raised in a small village as a baker, but when her mother married a man of wealth Muriel was thrust into an elite social circle without proper training in society's strict rules. Erik feels much more at home on the deck of a ship, but a recent injury has him on land while he heals.
I loved Muriel's fumbling but well-intended attempts to conform to aristocracy's rules and Erik's endless efforts to keep her safe. I was rooting for them from their hilarious and sweet meet-cute to their swoony kisses. The mystery/adventure plot line added dimension to the story and had me turning the pages of the last quarter as fast as possible.
I'm so glad this is the first book in the Best Laid Plans series - I'm eager to visit this world and these characters again and again.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher; all opinions are my own.
What a page turner! I fell into the pages of Grace Hitchcock's new Regency romance, which had me on the edge of my seat!
"A giant of a man stepped between them with his back to her. He gripped the viscount’s shoulder, his fingers discreetly cinching on his collarbone and forcing the cad to release his grip on her wrist with a grunt of pain. The mysterious gentleman enveloped Muriel in his arm, drawing her away from the horrid viscount and into the reel once more."
This is from the book. Read it to find out about the mysterious gentleman.
The plot twist at the end was crazy! I loved following Muriel's adventures. This was one book that I couldn't put down and was sad to arrive at the end.
I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
"The Lord has taken my folly and redeemed it, turning it into a crown of loving kindness and such tender mercies that I could never have imagined."
I hadn't read a Grace Hitchcock book before, but I'm definitely hooked now! This book was so amazing, so well written. The characters were absolutely perfect, I loved them all, (even the bad people 🙈). I honestly had no idea where it was going when I started it, as it begins with Muriel proposing to the baron! 😂 But it just kept getting better and better and taking turns that were shocking and so exhilarating, it was so hard to put down. It made me laugh many times, and hold my breath, which wasn't surprising with all the spies and men at gun point! I was just so impressed at everything the author put in this book - her own talent and research. I can't wait for the next in the series!
*I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review
Grace Hitchcock’s first Regency romance is a solid winner! This captivating story features the adventures and misadventures of spunky, unconventional heiress/baker Muriel Beau and earl/privateer Erik Draycott. It is a perfect combination of authentic history and sweet romance sprinkled with laugh-out-loud humor and inspiring faith. The well-structured, fast-paced, mysterious plot with skillfully placed twists and surprises drew me in from the beginning and kept me reading expectantly to the very end! The characters are expertly crafted and endearing. The recipe for scones included at the end is a yummy bonus! I totally enjoyed this first book in the Best Laid Plans series, and I can’t wait to read the next one. I love all of Ms. Hitchcock’s books and this one met and exceeded my high expectations. I highly recommend it! I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Grace Hitchcock has done it again, what a great way to start a new series! This book has it all, humor, romances gone right, romances gone wrong, mystery, action, delicious baked goods, redemption...but most of all, who doesn't love a good plot twist!
*Disclaimer* I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review
Because of her mother's marriage, Muriel went from a lowly baker to the step-daughter of a fabulously wealthy man. Ever since, she has tried to behave the way society expects, but has failed miserably. Her antics are often fodder for the local gossip mill.
Muriel's latest blunder was her public proposal to Deverell. Not only did he refuse her, the act ruined her reputation. In shame, she hurries off to join London society before they get wind of the fiasco, and black ball her there.
Once in London, she becomes entangled with Erik, who is an Earl but, also, a secret privateer. When on the open seas, he has been chasing the notorious Le Requin. The chance meeting of Erik and Muriel is full of hilarity, as well as, an instant connection.
Muriel's time in London has been a whirlwind of society parties, where she catches the eye of more than one gentleman. But will the man she is most interested in ever think of her as more than a friend?
In the meantime, Muriel finds herself in grave danger as she joins Erik in the hunt for the identity, and location of, the murderous Le Requin.
Set in 1813 England, Muriel's life is full of peril and spies. At the same time, she tries to find true love and conform to society's rules--often with disastrous results. This clean, five-star story includes faith, suspense, and mystery. Fans of exciting tales will love this book; I highly recommend it.
Thank you, Kregel Books, for providing Tickmenot with a book to review. Opinions are my own.
This was delightful. Actual review to come soon...along with scones!
I've read a few other Grace Hitchcock books, but this is her first Regency Era book. She knocked it out of the park!
I enjoyed the romance part of the story as well as the intrigue aspects as well. It was a well rounded book that kept my attention throughout.
I loved the fact that Muriel was a baker and that the author included a recipe for scones in the notes at the end. I am definitely going to try making them!
Muriel and Erik's meet cute was great! The nod to Little Mermaid... Love!
There was plenty of humor and the side characters added much enjoyment as well. Looking forward to seeing more of the in future books!
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
5 plus stars!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! This is my favorite book of this author's!!!
There are so many wonderful things about this book. I'll just list some...gorgeous setting, Regency time period (my fave), main characters who make you laugh out loud, mystery, action, upper class society, baked goods, fantastic cover on the book, faith element, beautiful gowns, Regency activities and balls, great friends, ships, captains, spies....
This is a perfectly written book and I highly recommend it!!! I wouldn't change one thing in the book!! I'm excited to read the next book in the series!
This refreshing story explores the Regency Period from a different perspective, beginning with the heroine’s shocking actions in the first chapter. Muriel Beau is not the typical 19th century heroine. Coming into genteel society by the marriage of her mother, she must learn all the peculiar rules of the ton as she goes along.
Likewise, Lord Draycott doesn’t easily fit into the mold of a nobleman. He prefers the life of a sea captain. When his search for a thieving spy brings danger to Muriel, he offers his protection and contemplates giving up his seafaring ways.
Clear your schedule so that you can swallow this delightful tale whole. I found myself turning the pages of this humorous romantic novel one right after the other. The characters drew me into the story, and I was cheering for them in short order. Foodies will be pleased with all the goodies baked throughout the book. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed the regency setting with all the historical details included. Plus, the bit of mystery added some excitement. Though truly I most appreciated the lessons of faith their story revealed. Very well done! I simply cannot wait for the next book in the series! I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Love, love, love this book! 😀 The romance was divine! And Erik and Muriel's first meeting was the best most hilarious thing I've ever read. Had me unable to put this book down as I devoured a story more delicious than Muriel's best baked pastries. Definitely add this to your TBR pile! Can't wait for book two 😍 🤗
To be honest, regency romance can be a little hit and miss for me... and this one was definitely a hit. I find that when it comes to regency stories, those that I enjoy the most are the ones that have characters who are a little outside the norm for the time and/or that have some mystery to them. This one had both and as such kept me intrigued from start to finish. I enjoyed these characters so much and I loved all the predicaments Muriel kept finding herself getting into. Such a fun and entertaining read! This is the first book in a new series and I am so looking forward to what happens next!
**I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
I love a story that opens with action and dialogue and is easy to connect with the main character.
In “To Catch a Coronet” I’m quickly surprised by Muriel and her unconventional ways, (especially for the Regency era) as she plans to propose to a baron. Yikes! Though the meat of the story comes after this scene, this gives an instant and certain feel for who Muriel is and what she’s willing to risk for the future she craves . The humor really shines when she meets Erik. He’s a kind hero who is easy to love, and the romance between them grows at a nice pace. (I’m not a fan of insta-love.)
If you enjoy Regency stories with lovely elements of faith, suspense, and romance, (and delicious baking), this book is a win. It will pull you through danger, humor, and sweet romance. It contains fun characters, surprising twists, and a sweet romance that will leave you satisfied.
First Line: “Tonight is the night!” Muriel Beau held up the gold band, admiring the ring in the flickering candelabras of the powder room just off the assembly hall’s ballroom. Series: Best Laid Plans, book 1 Genre: Christian Historical Romance Author: Grace Hitchcock Page Count: 296
#CoverLoverBookReview received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions are 100% mine.
Taking place in the Regency Era and full of careless friends, cold-hearted relatives, and set dancing, Grace Hitchcock gives Jane Austen vibes, but she also adds a flourish of her own! With a lighthearted touch of silliness and ever-growing subplot with action, there were times I laughed and others that caught me off-guard. I loved main female progagonist Muriel for her fearlessness and main male progagonist Erik for his kindness, their adorable meet-cute adding to the charm of their relationship. The book gave twists and turns I didn't see coming, and a plan at the climax was brilliant and powerful. Grace Hitchcock is a great author, and Regency Era books are my jam, so I'm thrilled to see them come together!

To Catch a Coronet was a fantastic read! Grace Hitchcock has done a marvelous job writing her first novel in the English regency era. This story was passionate, moving, loving, witty, adventurous, and had an epic conclusion!!! I cannot wait to read more stories in this series!
