Micklegate fully discovers his alter ego, Sir Nicholas Douglas and is tasked with the greatest of intrigues as he unravels a diabolical plot that spans decades, finding himself back with the Agents of 1541 whilst negotiating the terrors, mysteries, and challenges at the end of the sixteenth century. As the series comes to an end, he discovers who and what he is, revealing further surprises about many of those around him.
This is another enjoyable account of Tudor York told through the eyes of Micklegate Mouse and his special Agent colleagues. There is much to discover about their time-travelling experiences, which are told in multiple vignettes that place you straight into the heart of the medieval city. You will recognise many famous names from British history alongside the familiar characters from earlier books in the series. This is a time travel mystery on many levels, with thought-provoking themes and social history snippets, revealing the conflict and secrecy that surrounded religious worship at the time. And of course, you can expect the usual humour and friendships that are the hallmark of the Micklegate series.
An exciting and emotional conclusion (or is it?) to the series. I feel as though I know all the characters personally and that I have lived a while in Tudor England. Excellent experience!
