Honest thoughts: It should have remained one book, not a series. The third is better than the second by a wide margin, however, the ending feels so lackluster. It feels like way too much of a stretch.
My unsolicited advice? Just read the first book and don't worry about the rest. HMU if you wanna know why (it will include spoilers), but seriously, this should have been the one book.

‘*‘ Meine Meinung ‘*‘
Der dritte Band der „Bite Risk“-Reihe setzt die Geschichte um Sel, Ingrid und ihre Freunde fort. Wer die beiden Vorgänger nicht kennt, sollte sie unbedingt nachholen, da die Handlung direkt aufeinander aufbaut. Nach zwei absoluten Highlights war meine Vorfreude riesig – doch der Einstieg enttäuschte mich zunächst. Die Einführung des „Eisfiebers“ wirkte wie ein künstlicher Plot-Treiber, fast so, als hätte die Autorin nach einem neuen Konflikt gesucht, statt die bestehende Virusvariante „Extra pilori“ weiter auszureizen.
Die Mischung aus Seuche, Chaos und der skurrilen Wiedergänger-Welt bleibt faszinierend. Sel ist kein klassischer Held, sondern ein Protagonist, der selbst nicht versteht, was mit ihm passiert - das macht ihn authentisch und spannend. Besonders gelungen ist die Dynamik zwischen Sel und Ingrid, die unterschiedlich mit dem Virus umgehen und dadurch für Konflikte sorgen. Ab der Buchmitte zieht die Handlung wieder an: Die Gruppe kämpft gegen aussichtslose Umstände, hält aber zusammen. Die multiperspektivische Erzählweise gibt tiefe Einblicke in die Gedankenwelt der Charaktere, auch wenn Sels beste Freundin Elena (meine Namenscousine) leider etwas zu kurz kommt.
Der Anfang wirkt zäh, und einige Szenen hätten mehr Tiefe verdient. Besonders die rasche Abfolge wichtiger Ereignisse bremst die Charakterentwicklung. Zudem sind manche Passagen sehr brutal – die Altersempfehlung „ab 12“ erscheint mir zu niedrig; „ab 14“ wäre angemessener. Das „Eisfieber“ hätte man getrost weglassen können, da das Potenzial der bestehenden Virusvariante und Konfliktpotentiale noch lange nicht ausgeschöpft war.
Ein besonderes Lob verdienen die Sprechenden: Sie hauchen den Charakteren Leben ein und verstärken die Spannung in den Szenen. Gerade in den actionreichen Passagen macht das Hörbuch die Geschichte noch intensiver erlebbar. Das Kopfkino wurde super angekurbelt und war gänsehauterzeugend.
Trotz meiner Meckerpunkte überzeugt der dritte Band vor allem durch seine zweite Hälfte und das gelungene Finale, das Raum für einen vierten Band lässt. Wer auf Horror, Zombies und Werwölfe steht, wird an dieser Reihe Freude haben. Wegen der genannten Kritikpunkte gebe ich jedoch nur 4 kalte Sterne - mit etwas mehr Feinschliff hätte es mehr sein können.

Sel is quite happy with his new extra capabilities, but he's freaking others out, including some of his closest friends. He's finally found a scientist who wants to work on a cure (but not force it on people), who he feels actually comfortable with, but then something happens and the guy is in a coma, and his assistant is loose with a very dangerous parasite that could unleash a plague. Sherman is getting more extreme now that Ben is a Ripper, and he refuses to acknowledge that it only happened because Sel was saving Ben's life. He has his aremed goons out patrolling Tremorglade, and many families, including Sel's best friends and his mom have decided it is time to leave. Sel doesn't want Sherman to win, but he also knows the parasite unleashing Frozen Fever must be found and stopped so he leaves Tremorglade to save the world once again.
I don't know if it was the audiobook narrator, or just that Sel has a bit of a chip on his shoulder from needing to save the world repeatedly (and refusing to acknowledge that his new powers aren't under his full control like he believes), but he was a bit more annoying in this one. I agreed with Ingrid and his other friends that he needed help that he was refusing, and he wasn't being honest with himself...and that was never fully resolved in this book, which is why it was only a 3 star read for me. The Frozen Fever and Sherman's control of the town are resolved in this book finally, so it does feel like the series is complete in that aspect. This just wasn't as fun as the first book in the series. (And neither was the 2nd, and really, you could totally stop reading after the first book if you want to.)

Other: Some Rippers want to be cured and some are happy with their situation, those on different sides pressure others to switch. Sherman treats his son like he's a horrible thing now that he's a Ripper. An armed takeover of a town that severely restricts what people can do, where they can go, etc.

Die Welt geht unter, aber bitte mit Stil und ordentlich Puls im Kopf. Genau so fühlt sich Bite Risk – Kalt erwischt an, und ja, das Ding hat uns beide ziemlich schnell gepackt.
Kaum ein Kapitel gelesen, schon kam von der Seite ein leises „Noch eins?“ und ich wusste genau, heute wird es spät. Diese Mischung aus Seuche, Chaos und dieser leicht schrägen Wiedergänger-Geschichte hat einfach Sog. Sel ist kein glatter Held, eher einer, der selbst nicht ganz checkt, was da mit ihm passiert. Genau das macht es spannend.
„Wenn der jetzt wieder die Kontrolle verliert, raste ich aus“, kam es irgendwann neben mir, während ich grinsen musste, weil ich genau das Gleiche dachte. Diese Momente, wo wir beide gleichzeitig reagieren, sind Gold wert. Und davon gab es hier einige.
Das Eisfieber bringt ordentlich Tempo rein. Kaum Luft holen, schon eskaliert die nächste Situation. Trotzdem bleibt Platz für Freundschaft, Zweifel und dieses leise „Was wäre, wenn ich selbst so wäre?“. Gerade die Verwandlungsthematik hat uns öfter innehalten lassen. Kurzer Blick rüber, hochgezogene Augenbraue, und weiter ging’s.
Manchmal hätte ich mir gewünscht, dass bestimmte Szenen noch ein bisschen mehr Tiefe bekommen. Ein, zwei Dinge rauschen etwas zu schnell vorbei. Aber ganz ehrlich, der Spaß am Lesen macht das locker wieder wett.

My initial thoughts after reading this: wowowow.
I both couldn’t wait and was sad as I’m uncertain if this is the final instalment of this awesome series. I didn’t want it to end but I couldn’t wait to see what else was going to happen. I reread the second one to prepare for this one so I was all set and it was fresh in my head.
I’ve loved these characters and the world they inhibit. It’s a really compelling story and this one had bigger stakes than ever. Poor Sel has a lot to contend with and with a new strain of Corpus pilori, people are scared and lashing out.
I always looked forward to Buddy reading this with a cup of coffee in the morning. I slowed down the read and really got into every page. It was super enjoyable and I’ve really come to love this author. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this writer and hope there will be more in this series too. I’ve so enjoyed them all so much and can’t wait to get stuck into whatever else this author produces!

A very good conclusion to the trilogy, although I think the first 2 were the best. For now this seems to be the last book, but the ending actually seemed to leave it open for another installment.

Sel and his friends are back in Tremorglade, ready to fight for their town and lives again, this time from what everyone thought was a myth but turned out true, frozen fever. Sel thinks training is new ripper abilities will help but very few agree and now he is being blamed for everything and has to run from his town. But he must try and find proof or anything to help his case or to help find a cure for the ripper disease (?).
This is a werewolf series unlike any you have ever read. It is great! There is so much action and suspense that I will keep almost any teen engaged, even reluctant ones. I loved it all and how even though Sel didn’t want to stop being a ripper he and his friends helped the preserve others rights to a cure. This is a good series and I hope there is more coming.

I loved it all and how even though Sel didn’t want to stop being a ripper he and his friends helped the preserve others rights to a cure. This is a good series and I hope there is more coming.
