I say my Crossroads Hotel gives the magical a refuge from the world, but things are going too far, too fast. First, Drake, one of the dragons I’ve tangled with in the past, shows up with a dragon egg, of all things, asking me to guard it from all comers. This is after the sheriff’s grandfather nearly wrecks on my front door and begs me for a place to hole up. Not only that, but my grandmother has a new ally, a mysterious crow Changer who might be more dangerously powerful than we know.
When the dragon egg proves to be more important that Drake is letting on, Mick and I embark on a quest to discover who murdered the kid’s mother, and what new and dangerous foe will stop at nothing to eliminate me, Mick, and my friends and family to obtain the egg and begin the destruction of all dragon-kind.

The last book of the Stormwalker series, Dragon Bites, was released six years ago. However, the moment I got into this one, in Chapter 1, I felt right back in well-known universe. I loved that! Yes, Allyson James added some tidbits information as reminder of the previous books but I felt like everything quite familiar already.
This time, Janet was given a "task" by Drake to take care a and there were other dangerous supernatural beings that want to take it and kill all the dragons.
I liked this plot!! I mean, Blue was totally adorable (though she didn't appear until the end) and I thought she was a nice addition to the gang. I wouldn't be worried too much about the legend ()... I think it will be resolved somehow.
All the gangs were here ... Cassandra, Nash, Gabrielle, Colby, even Janet's grandmother, Ruby Begay. And there's this new mysterious character appearing, a friend of Ruby. I would definitely curious to see him again. Hopefully the next book doesn't take another six years!!
The Stormwalker series, which started in 2009 with a novella in a Berkley Christmas anthology, has been an auto-read for me since the beginning. After a rousing start, the books are now release years apart, with the previous title coming out in 2018. The lengthy gaps in between releases makes it difficult to keep momentum going. However, James does a great job reminding readers who the different characters are, why they are important, and if a key event happened that impacts the current story. She does it without an information dump, and only here and there as the situation calls for.
That said, I still felt disconnected from the characters and setting. Shared via the first person POV of Janet, Wing Dancer jumps from one situation to another without a lot of plot development. The story centers around an unhatched dragon egg given to Janet for protection. Not only is the mighty Dragon Council unhappy about this, but there are mysterious, thought-to-be-a-myth, creatures after the egg. Toss in a powerful potential ally, Nash’s excitable grandfather, and a hotel full of horrible guests, and Janet finds herself putting out one fire after another.
I didn’t love the flow of the book as Janet jumps from one problem to the next. I also miss the once-strong romantic element and love story between Mick and Janet, which was a passing thought in Wing Dancer. And I wonder, was Grandmother always this annoying? She is bossy and overbearing. There is a side story about Gabrielle coaching a girls’ basketball team, which I supposed is meant to show us how far she’s come since her days of trying to kill Janet. But it was more of a silly distraction. I also didn’t think the addition of the annoying hotel guests added any value to the story.
Wing Dancer reads like a standalone tale that doesn’t provide any content to the overall series, other than three new characters to a list that is already over two dozen long. I still enjoyed re-visiting the Crossroads Hotel and learning what Janet and Mick have been up to, but I miss the powerful story-telling and connectedness from earlier books in the series.
This one really ends up being a family affair and by that I mean family for all the characters, it's kinda crazy. The dragon egg was cute, heartbreaking and full of hope, depending on where you were in the story. I did like that the baby dragon got to see it's mother, even if for only a small time, amazing considering mama was dead from the start.
It really took everyone, Janet, the dragons, Janet's family, Janet's friends and their family to stop the bad guys in this one. And those bad guys, so weird, in who they are and where the came from. It feels like we might see them again at some point, hopefully everyone will be better prepared.
After all the action, things settle down at the hotel, but it's a new normal with a baby dragon and an old man, who I bet will be right in the middle of things from now on.

This was better than OK, well I liked it. But also it felt a bit off? Like where is the SPICE! I'm used to these books having one or two steamy scenes but suddenly it just faded to black? Also, what's the deal about the mythology in this? I kinda feel like I missed a step, because from before I can only remember her having lighting type storm powers, now suddenly she can channel rain storms and dust storms and shoot water from her hands? And it just seems like a lot has happened between the last book and this, but we don't really get to see what. All in all it was enjoyable, but definitely felt different from the previous books. Like the same, but something is missing.
That was awesome!! It's sad that a person died but what came out of it 2 battle evil is worth anything 4 family. She was tasked with keeping a dragon egg save at all costs. A few entities tried 2 figure out a way 2 seek havoc but with the help with a few friends and family nobody wants 2 deal with them getting angry. I was surprised at the ending but overall it was awesome cause a few dragons mellowed out it seems 4 the better 2 help with a future 4 the egg. But who is the father of the egg and will the egg hatch? Read and find out.
I was so excited that there was to be another book in this series! I thought the adventures of Janet and Co. were long over and now a new chapter has been written in such a way that there should be plenty more!
Looks like Janet has gained a few new friends, a special one to protect and an even bigger reason to have a target on her and Mick's backs. It will be sweet to see how all this plays out!
Sooo happy to read the latest Stormwalker story. Janet Begay, Mick, grandmother Begay, Gabrielle and I could go on returned to fight off the bad mystical guys and save a baby dragon. Lots of action and wonderful myths and creation stories all surrounding Native American culture. A fine, fine read.
So nice to visit with Janet and Mick again. Nice return to the Stormwalker world. They can' t catch a break, but with the whole cast of return characters and a couple of lovely new ones, chaos ensues and adventure awaits. Love this series and this author.
Janet is asked to care for a baby dragon when her mother is killed. A bunch of ghosts try to capture it. Janet's family and friends all help protect it.
It’s been too long since the last time we had a Janet and Mick adventure. I always enjoy these stories and the relationships of all the characters. I hope we don’t have to wait as long for the next story.
I loved this installment in this series! We not only get to see our favourites, we get more insight into some of what, and who, makes our characters act and react how they do. Lots of action, an absolute mystery and enemy to fight, and lives in peril, what more could we ask for <3
-5 stars. i enjoy this series, i love the dragons, and now there's a dragon egg and baby dragon! sadly the author has so many (great) ongoing series', that the last book in this series came out in 2018. so 6 years of waiting for this book. i think she has 8 active series under 3 different names.
Wellvwritten as usual but the spice was missing. The adventure and intregue was really good, exceptional even. But that spice was always what made it feel more real.
