I was born in the fires of hell, created to grant humans' selfish wishes for revenge in exchange for their souls. I exist only to fulfill my purpose. After eons of meting out vengeance, both petty and dire, something sparked inside me—an emotional response. Vengeance demons do not feel things. And yet, I did.
Rather than return to the hell realm, I wandered the earth before settling in Fate's Falls, a protected place where monsters of all types reside in harmony. There are even some humans in town, including one female who stokes flames inside me that put hellfire to shame.
The lovely coffee barista is too soft. Too small. Too filled with sunshine and goodness to be attracted to a towering, red-skinned, hell-born demon. She will never know my feelings, never return them, but Dela is my purpose now. I would kill for her. I would die for her. But I cannot stay away from her.
DELA
After dying at the hand of my ex-boyfriend, then being returned to life by a reaper, I follow his advice and escape to Fate’s Falls. Not only are reapers real, so are all kinds of fantastic creatures, many of whom reside in the secret small town surrounded by mountains and forests. I’m not afraid of the monsters here, but I didn’t expect to be attracted to one. Especially not a massive, red demon who barely speaks and has the most intense case of resting-grumpy face I’ve ever seen.
When a coincidence—or fate—gives me a chance to get to know Raz, the attraction quickly becomes something deeper. And it’s mutual. Turns out, the hotter-than-hell demon isn’t so grumpy after all. He's sweeter than a cinnamon roll, and he’s mine for as long as I want him, which might be forever…

Part of the Fate's Falls series by Karla Doyle This book is intended for adult readers only. Visit the author's website for content notes about all of her books.
This book was previously published in the limited-time Monsters in Love 5: Lost in the Fire multi-author anthology. This individual release version contains a bonus prologue scene which was not included in the anthology version.
Karla grew up in a small town on the north shore of Lake Erie. She trained and worked in the fashion industry for over two decades, before embracing the writing muse. When she's not writing romance, Karla loves spending time with her family, friends, and pets, reading romance novels, and playing online Scrabble.
“When the day comes that your sunshine leaves your body and moves on to the next place, I will return to hell and ask my liege to return my essence to hellfire, so that I do not have to exist one day without you beside me, giving me life.”
“There is no place on your body that does not appeal to me. When I said I wish to taste every inch of you, I did mean every inch. The pleasure I would give you has no boundaries, though I will respect your desires or lack thereof.”
Raz is such a sweet, head over heels but innocently doesn’t know it ,honest to a fault demon! Dela deserves him and all his sugar. She’s had a rough go and has become a survivor.
3.4 stars. This was sweet and a little sad, but I with the writing being so good I kind of wanted more out of the ending. Like some solutions to the biggest problems of their relationship…aging, his creed…idk. It was cute, and the ending wasn’t terrible, I just wanted Everything to have a magical fix.
I read The Grumpy Demon’s Sunshine and OMG it was the cutest!! Raz and Dela are literally so adorable!! He’s a big, red, hell born, revenge demon and she’s an innocent human. When I tell you this book is literally adorable! Raz literally worships the ground Dela walks on and I’m obsessed with how much he’s obsessed with her! Can’t wait for more Monster Romance from Karla!
Super cute and the smutty smut is smutting. Instantly loved the writing style, unique character POVs and wanted to pick up everything she’s ever written.
You can only find Fate’s Falls if it’s meant to be, if you’re meant to enter. Dela has survived death and was shown the way to this unique town. Since arriving she has found true friends, comfort and peace. She’s also developed an attraction to the giant, red, horned vengeance demon that comes into the coffee shop where she works. Raz was drawn to the coffee shop and returns to be in the presence of the intoxicating woman who works there. These two are so cute together. She’s a human recovering from mental and physical abuse, unsure of herself in many ways but getting stronger. He’s factual to a fault, unsure of how to understand human reactions and subtlety, but desperate to please Dela. Together they fit and feelings that have no place in a vengeance demon are soon taking him over. Some darker issues that may cause triggers, but overall a sweet, slow-burn romance with a spicy later half and a cute HEA.
I saw these special editions on either FB or IG and I was like sold, let me try out this new author to me! I accidentally read book 2 first, ooopsie haha, but gonna start book 1 shortly since I enjoyed this one.
This is a novella so just keep that in mind. I liked the premise and the characters, thought it was a good mix of almost an innocent MMC (Raz) with his lack of emotion and connections before meeting his mate/love. I liked his honesty and his unfiltered comments haha and how it made for some fun humor. I liked how he came out of his shell and his sexy side came out and directing Dela on what he wanted/demanded. I liked that the revenge demon was part of the story but no overpowering. I do wish Dela got some karmic justice though for her horrible ex. Like not hurting him but something backfired and he got a curse or something haha. You shouldn't try to off someone and get away with it!
I thought Dela was adorable and I thought her reactions were very relatable. I liked the world and am gonna catch back up on book 1 so I can get to know the lay of the land more. I liked the side characters we got to meet in this one, I am intrigued about their love stories. The town sounds adorable and I love the monster cozy with a ton of spice reads haha, totally my jam right now. I think some things were repetitive for me so I couldn't round up to a 5 stars but this as a solid 4 stars. I will be adding the other stories to my wishlist/TBR since this book box only included books 1 and 2.
I read this story when it was part of the Monsters in Love 5: Lost in the Fire multi-author anthology. The author has released it separately, and it is still fantastic.
I really enjoyed this OTT, grumpy/sunshine, demon/human, PNR romance. Dela is a young woman who moved to Fate's Falls two years ago and is starting over. She found out about the town after literally dying and then waking up only to find a card in her hand with the name. She knew she needed to leave her abusive boyfriend, as he was responsible for her death, and so she slipped away with nothing but her life. Razbunare, aka Raz, is a Vengeance Demon who is big, red, has horns, does not have a heart and is good at his job of collecting souls who trade them for vengeance on someone. But two years ago he started to change and moved to Fate's Falls. He had a cabin built on the outskirts of town and has stayed mainly to himself. But six months ago something called to him and he was drawn to the coffee shop and the beautiful, small and sunshine young woman who works as a barista during the day. It seems that the demon has found his sunshine but he does not know how to get her. Lucky for him this is Fate's Falls and fate is about to push these two together. I really loved this inventive and engaging story. It is sweet, naughty, fun, entertaining, smexy overload, and an easy read.
I enjoyed the story, but hoped for a bit more ;) The characters were great, I liked Dela in the first Fate's Falls book, so I gladly read this one to see her own romance. She was very sweet and open, especially considering her past. First meeting with Raz made me think that he really was the grumpiest grump to ever grump, but even with his stilted and stiff manner of speaking he revealed how cute and adorable he really was. Who knew I would "awww" at a huge vengeance demon confessing how madly in love he is with a little human? Well, I should have known, I find all giant monsters falling in love adorable ;) There were two things that were missing here for me. The smut wasn't as explicit as in the first book, I mean, Raz was amazing with his tongue and this parts were great, but their intercourse was very vague and quick to end. I hoped for more...fire when a demon was involved ;) The other thing is epilogue, I wanted to see how they were a bit into the future. How their lives changed when they moved in together, if maybe Raz found a way to bound Dela's soul to himself so she wouldn't die on him in 50+ years? I would have liked some epilogue like that.
I did understand that this is a novella and so it wouldn't be very long. I don't normally read short stories because there's usally just not enough time for a plot to develop. There was virtually no plot and the spice was barely above cracked pepper for what it was. Either a shorter story has plot or spice or a little of both. It was pretty lackluster on both parts and definitely could have used more wording. I think it has lots of potential it just feels unfinished. There are also plot holes for me and things that weren't adding up. Not a bad book will be interested to see the authors growth and what is created next from here.
Oh my gosh this was an absolute delight to read! The characters were deep, and made me really feel! I found such a kinship with Dela, and Raz was just lovely! And Shay brought something special to the story. This just filled me with love and hope. I haven’t read something I’ve connected so much with in a very long time. I think it’s Dela’s past, how she deals with it and the beautiful love she shares. And that she gets to be loved and treasured and nurtured and respected… Gah!! That’s the dream.
In short… I definitely recommend this. Stuff KU, I’m buying this for keeps!
Cute... Sugary sweet. Not super spicy and no epilogue. I was kinda bummed that even when it finally said he DID "follow her over the edge" that it wasn't very explicit and there was no "fire demon presence" if you get my meaning. Whatever kinkiness there was, was very brief, and very mild. I felt like there just wasn't enough in this story to make it worth while, but if you want a quick, monster fluff, then this is the book for you.
“I will always want you, my sweet Dela. I was drawn to you before seeing you. You are more lovely than any creature I have laid eyes on, but it is your heart and soul I do not want to be without. When the day comes that your sunshine leaves your body and moves on to the next place, I will return to hell and ask my liege to return my essence to hellfire, so that I do not have to exist one day without you beside me, giving me life.”
So loved this short story. I loved Raz, his desire and need for Dela. Dela's past, was not so nice and having been saved from a nasty X, she gets to live and love again. Working as a barista, she meets many non human folks, with one, she definitely craves. 😈😁 The heat between Dela and Raz is so sexy and 🌶🌶🌶🌶. He is an amazing soul and the pair are perfect for each other. The 'supporting' characters are great fun and had me chuckling often. I kinda wished there had been more to this tale, but loved it, all the same. 😁 I looked forward to more from this author. 🤩🤩 I read this as part of an anthology but will be grabbing my own copy of this story. 😍😍
Raz is a giant vengeance demon who is drawn to Dela. Dela was in an abusive relationship and was given her freedom and safety by moving to Fates Falls. Love their journey!! Raz is a direct and perfect person to be with Dela. Love them!! So hot and spicy from the first to kiss!!
This was a great monster romance. It was a short, well written story with a great pace. The storyline was really entertaining and I loved how Razbunare and Dela’s stories were connected and they just had the best chemistry. I really love the way Karla Doyle writes monster romances.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved this book. This is not a complicated read where there are too many characters to keep up with. The story flows really well. While there is spice, it doesn't take away from the plot. I loved that Raz is a total cinnamon roll for Dela. I highly recommend this book.
this was a good quick read. a grumpy demon with barely any feelings starts to have them for this coffee barista. dela a woman with a past starts to realize she developed some attraction to a big hot red monster and when they finally start spending time together they realize maybe fate is real. what are the chances they met before moving to fates falls.... you will have to read to find out
This was the first book I had picked up by the author. I had the pleasure of getting a signed edition from a local mall. All I can say is wow I am speechless. This had the right amount of plot and spice. The spicy scenes were so well written. This was so well done. If you like spicy monster smut this is a MUST
Grumpy/sunshine’s are my favorite! And this one was so freakin cute. The communication and the reassurances. Oh my goodness they’re perfect for each other. So freakin cute.
I loved Raz and Dela! Swoonworthy big red demon, his blunt nature made him such a cinnamon roll hero. I loved the full circle of events too. Can't wait to read more from this town.
The couple was cute. Love a grumpy sunshine pairing but it seemed kind of rushed and there wasn't alot of actual story. She went from practicing abstinence to rising his after really fast. Wish there would have been a little more build up.
Raz and Dela are amazing. There is just nothing more I can say. I love the concept of Fate's Falls harboring humans and supernatural beings who are just looking for some peace and love.
The story was short and sweet but I loved every moment while reading it. It has everything you want in a romance with a sexy demon, steamy hot scences that sizzles but doesn't take over the plot of the story with awseome characters? A must buy book.
I had high hopes because I liked the first book but this one absolutely did not work for me. I dropped it at 57%. Both the main characters were annoying and they had absolutely no chemistry. I was going to read Shay's book as well but after this one I don't think I will.
To find a vengeance demon in romance was unexpected, but it worked. It was sweet to watch them both evolve and their love grow. And I am not going to give it away, but there is a twist. But it literally has me day OMG out loud.
2.5 ⭐️ this was super short so it’s probably why I found some of the parts confusing. I was hoping for more size kink stuff but it didn’t really come up too much in a spicy way. It was still a half decent storyline tho.
