Neo-gothic Welsh wordsmith Emma Edwards has written since childhood. She worked in Business Administration, married and nurtured her beloved kids, but it was only when they started to get older that she had the time to create, write and publish her first novel Sanguinary and more recently the follow up, Imbrued.

At thirteen, Emma watched The Lost Boys and ever since, she's had a thing about vampires, so it was inevitable that they would be the focus of her debut novel. She doesn't just write paranormal though; there are projects on the way that are grounded in reality like concrete.

Emma's writing style is sassy, sharp, dynamic, uncompromising and tends to the dark side. Let's just say it's never going to be rainbows and fluffy bunnies with Emma. Okay, there is one fluffy bunny in Imbrued, but he doesn't last long!

For the first part of this book it seemed very repetitive to me. Go to bar, listen to music, get wasted, have sex repeat. Something about it though kept me reading and I am really glad that I did. It proved in the end to be a pretty good read. Angel is the main character who loves Ash who in my opinion was a real jerk but to each his own. At times I wished I could shake Angel out of her drunken stupor and tell her to wake up and stop being so reckless. The character that I fell in love with was Jay. He was so sweet and caring that it was hard not to like him. Throughout the book you knew that there was this killer vampire and you had suspicions about many people so that was a good thing. Overall after reading this book I can't wait to read the second book! The writer is very good at bringing you right into this whole world of craziness.

Wow, this is one of those books that plays tug of war with your emotions as well as drives you to re-evaluated the personality of several characters. Although I had to put the book down several times, I could never stop thinking about what was to happen next. At times it's a very on the edge of your seat type of book and at others it's relaxed but it never fails to hold the attention of the reader.

Angel is so far from an angel but that's what makes her unique for the main female character. She is able to hold her own yet has that damsel in distress quality. Even with all her ups and downs she never strays from who she really is.

Ash is so complex that it will make your head spin, but he holds such an air of mystery and danger that he will captivate the reader into his world.

As Ash and Angel's relationship blossoms, everything seems as though it's going to be a happy ever after until Ash lays some major news on Angel. He's a vampire! The fact that angel doesn't go running for the hills tells you a lot about her character (not to mention she's been fascinated with vampires since an early age.) As things spiral downwards due to the murders from The Vampire so does Ash and Angel's relationship. Will they be able to straighten out of the downward spiral into depression or do the crash and burn leaving nothing but heartache in the wake of their fall out?

I'm gonna read book two in a few days! Can't wait to read more of the wonderful tale of Ash and Angel! Major book hangover if I do say so myself ;)

Written by Julia for Bex 'n' Books. Bex 'n' Books received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

If you are expecting your usual girl meets vampire, vampire chases girl, girl turns for vampire and all live happily ever after, then this is NOT it. If you are looking to be completely enthralled with a heroine and feel all of the heartache and betrayal she goes through while being so impressed with her strength and depth of character , then you better get started reading.

Angel has had an obsession with vampires since she was 13 and watched the Lost Boys with her sister. She is a young carefree aspiring writer, that until recently has been a glorified gopher at a local paper. She gets what she thinks is her big break when she is asked to infiltrate the local "Real Vampire" scene and find the truth about the recent Vampire murders in town. What she finds is so much more that she ever expected. From the minute she makes eye contact with the lead singer of the band Erebis, Ash, her life and her heart will never be the same. She is willing to sacrifice everything, including her career, for this hot heart stopping love with this obsessive dark and brooding "Vampire". Did I mention HOT lead singer VAMPIRE?

Ms. Edwards does a fantastic job of developing the characters. Angel is such an enthralling character. She all out goes for what she wants. One scene she is so in love and "everything is coming up roses" and burning up the sheets...did I mention their love is HOT?....and the next her heart is breaking. Ash is broken and brooding and dark and absolutely wants to believe he deserves the love he has been given with Angel but he cannot accept himself. Although this story starts out a little slow, there is definitely never a dull moment after Chapter 2. It continues to build and build until you are literally smacked in the face with who the killer actually is and who this all centers around. I can tell you that I cannot wait to read Imbrued, the second in this series.

This is a wonderful vampire serial killer mystery and love story gone wrong set in Cardiff. I loved this book. The characters were relatable and not too glossy. The level of detail was just right, allowing you to picture the scene but not slowing the pace. The rude bits were splendidly rude. The main themes of trust, acceptance and otherness were explored deeply. I’m delighted it’s the first part in a trilogy because one book wouldn’t be enough.

A very intense fast paced novel that left me wanting at the end. Definitely not a stand alone novel it should be read as part of a complete series. One, I might add, that I would hate to miss out on. I will be waiting to finish the rest of the story... not too long I hope.

WOW. I've never read a vampire story anything like this one. The characters were extremely well developed and memorable. There was a delicious raunchiness intertwined with a kick-ass story which kept me hooked till the end. I'd soooo love to see this made into a film.

Angel is young, carefree and until recently single.
Her world is turned upside down when she was sent to research a band for an undercover story after the whispers of them being vampires.
With a "vampire" serial killer on the loose a story like this would be big.
She didn't account for the fact that the band would be amazing and the singer mesmerizing. With loyalties torn between a dead end job and her rock god she makes the easy choice and chooses Ash, keeping how she met him a secret.
To her surprise there really are living, breathing vampires running around Cardiff and she's now part of the pack.
Alot of wine and whisky is consumed and the passion is hot! Life and love isn't always a smooth ride though but then Angel's never been one to tow the line.

The language used was clear and easy to follow with it being modern and abbreviated.
There was frequent swearing and sexual content so for mature audiences only.
Angel is definitely a drama queen and we can all relate to that smoldering first love that consumes us.

I did wonder at the continued reference to her alcohol consumption but was glad there was a point to it otherwise it might have annoyed me.
The characters are well developed with some essential background characters like Jay and Minnie thrown into the mixture who I would like to hear more from.

The climax was certainly reached and has left me wondering will there be more?

This is not your average Vampire story. It is a very mature story of club jumping, band following, alot of sex, alot of alcohol consumption and a "Vampire" serial killer. We start with Angel not your average twenty something girl who is trying to get her hand in on being a writer. But, she ends up being a gopher at a Newspaper. Well there are strange unsolved murders happening in her local area that are being blamed on a "real vampire". Two marks to the neck and the women are drained until dead. Well Angels boss wants her to investigate the band members at a local club because rumor has it that they are "real vampires". This club is kind of Goth style and Anglel will fit right in, actually it is one that she frequents quite often. Angel feels that this might be her big break and agrees. Well then the trouble begins with a man called Ash. This story started out a little slow for me, but really got rolling about half way through. The story keeps you guessing and then will slap you hard in the end. A good read

If you enjoy books told in the first person with short, punchy dialogue and your vampires hot and their lovemaking raunchy, you will love this book!

Sanguinary was a read in a different direction for me, not my usual choice but I tried it on recommendation. It took me a few chapters to get into it but once I did, Ms Edwards' storytelling brought me closer to the characters, the plot began to unfold and 'what ifs' and 'I wonder ifs' filled my mind as I read. When the relationship between the three girls grew and the complexities of the vampire 'family unfolded, Ms Edwards 'got me' and I couldn't wait to read to the end.

The sex in this book is explicit and, if I'm honest, a little too explicit for my taste. Though well written, it didn't add to the book for me but also, in no way detracted.

So, for a raunchy, rollicking, 'no holes barred', sexy vampire read, I can highly recommend this book. It gets my five stars as I enjoyed it, recommend it and will read it again before I read the next book in the series. This is a cracking debut novel.

I started out not really liking this book. It seemed all sex and drinking. Well there really was a lot of both. I was having trouble with the theme of the story. Didn't really care for all the abuse that the main character went through. The male lead Ash was a (vampire) rock star with many, many problems. Other characters were good, both Ashes friends and Angels. Angel was female main character.
Someone or something is draining girls bodies of blood and it looks like Angel would be next.
It started to pick up towards the end of the book, so I might read #2 but not right away. Gave it
3 1/2 starts.

To be honest, I left it for a few days just after I'd started to read this book because I found myself getting bored. I almost didn't go back to it, but now I'm glad I did because I really enjoyed it and I've already downloaded the next one. I loved how all the characters were flawed, an interesting addition to the story and I can't wait to see how the ongoing story develops. I do enjoy discovering new series and I think this could be yet another one.

Just not for me

Angel was a drunk the whole time. Ash was a major jerk. I couldn't connect with the characters... and I couldn't respect them one bit. The scene in the mosh pitt really sealed the fate of how I felt about the book.

A great book, brings vampires into everyday life. I love the idea of vampires in a rock band. When I reached the end I wanted to read more.
