Review: What an adorable read!! If you are a fan of Bridgerton and Magic then you definitely MUST add this to your TBR right now.
It was such an adorable story to read. There were parts that had me smiling like a fool and then others where I swear my heart stopped. Keelin Schafer has created a wonderful world with beautiful characters! I can’t wait to read the next book!!!
This is such a fun read! Like a magical twist on Pride and Prejudice. The pacing was so good and I was hooked from the beginning. Can’t wait for the next one! Highly recommend!
For my first regency-era book, this was a very fun read! It was everything from my Pride & Prejudice dreams with magic added. It was also much higher stakes than I initially expected, which of course keeps the book interesting. I really liked the characters and, although I suspected the plot twist, I was so curious to see how it played out. Very fun and unique!
Thank you to the author for sending me a copy for review!
I am so incredibly honored to have received a copy of this book from the author. Enchantment’s Apprentice: A Magical Regency Book 1 was everything I could have asked for in a book and more. If you love Sarah J Maas and Bridgerton then this story is a must-read because it is the absolute perfect combo of the two. In other words, I loved it so much. I read the entire book in one sitting because I just had to know what happened next. Adeline and Theodore’s banter throughout the story made me laugh so hard that I snorted. I also happened to love them both so hard and it was incredible getting to read from both of their perspectives throughout the story. Additionally, the major twists and turns had me in absolute shock because I didn’t see them coming at all. Overall, this book had me smiling so hard and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
First, this book was fun. The magic in the world was great and the world building on that front was fun and easy to follow. While this author isn’t the first to merge magic with historical romance (Amanda Quick Arcane series for example), having it exist in the regency era was a delight.
That being said. As an AVID regency fan…there were struggles. Things that a beginner don’t know or probably even care about but…the rest of us do. There only a few rules to Regency and this author broke two of them. One, incorrect usage and understanding of titles and incorrect social rules. Yes, yes I know it sounds petty and petulant but if you want a Regency fan to dnf your book get one of those wrong. And dress. We are a strange lot but the irrational rage I felt while the FMC called a COUNTESS “Your Grace”….well…iykyk. I have 20 years of fandom in this sub-genre and I can’t let the obsession go.
On a very slight issue the author is inconsistent with show vs tell. At times she does a great job of explaining through showing of a memory and others she rushes through the scene with a paragraph that could have been a conversation and brought the entire thing to life. I was left wanting so much MORE. From the characters, from the world, from the story. In the end I felt cheated of the potential.
Ita a clean romance which isn’t a complaint, I love a GOOD clean romance and she did that well. The burn was also a little inconsistent. The enemies being not quite right but growing to friends was lovely and then the realization of love was a bit choppy. Overall it’s a pacing issue.
Allllll of that being said it’s a good read. She is self published and it shows. She wrote five in a year AND IT SHOWS. A good editor could have absolutely propelled this to GREAT but I still liked it and will read the rest of the books. It’s a light, clean romp that as long as you brace yourself on the few flaws is a fine read. I am hopeful she fine tunes her writing as we go a long.
Ok a cool concept, but everything was so undeveloped. Magic in the regency period? Cool! Ignoring the societal structure, rules, and limitations, so disappointing. The main character is naive to the point of being a complete idiot who is manipulated so easily, even in the face of obvious truths. Gah it was so frustrating 😤
A regency. With Magic. Not whimsy. Not subtle enhanced powers. But real magic. Like Harry Potter, except if the Muggles were integrated with the magical society. YES PLEASE! I was so terribly excited to read this. It was fully a regency – balls, chaperones, etiquette and calling cards – but it was also fully a fantasy, with a magic agency, rules for apprenticeship and spell books.
Adeline, an isolated young woman comes to London to find a husband with her married cousin as a chaperone. She is quite a catch, heir to her family’s estate and with a powerful magical bloodline. With her strong credentials, she can afford to be choosy, and instantly strikes sparks with two cousins. The first is stern and intimidating, Theodore, the Viscount of Davenport and the leader of the Whig party in Parliament. His younger cousin, Charles, dashing and charming, is a teacher at the London Society Syndicate But Addy’s heart isn’t caught up with the swirl of London society – her thoughts remain with her dying father, and her wish that she could somehow save his life…. with magic.
Naïve Adeline learns of a potion that can save her father, but it requires her to take items from Teddy. Initially, she has no hesitation, and signs up to be his apprentice. However, sparks continue to fly, and their initial enmity turns into true friendship. Conflicts continue with her friendship with Teddy and her courtship with Charles but through it all, her love for her father is the biggest constant.
There were two elements I didn’t enjoy in this book and they both relate to magic. The first issue is how the magic system is structured (bloodlines), and the second is the, I feel, flawed assumption by the MMC and the driving force in his research. However, since I hate spoilers, I won’t say more here.
I greatly enjoyed this book and was excited to learn there’s another in the works. I can’t wait to read it.
Perfect mix of the classics, it reminded me of the feelings I had when I was young, reading a book and just getting lost in a new world!
This book made me believe in ✨magic✨ again. There are two books that I can recall, that changed my brain chemistry as a kid and taught me that you can live a million different lives through stories, and this is right up there next to them!
This book was a perfect mix of Pride & Prejudice vibes, with the love story between our two protagonists. And Harry Potter vibes, with the magical world this Author brought to life. This book had it all, Romance, Banter, and an incredible plot that had me on the edge of my seat.
We follow one of our two main protagonists, Adeline. She is a magically gifted heiress looking for a quick marriage and then a quick carriage back to be with her dying Father during his last days.
And Theodore “Teddy”. He is the Lord over a wealthy estate and the leader of a Magical Reform movement who only wants for the happiness of his family and for everyone to be equal and safe.
But not everyone wants the same, the rich don’t face consequences for their actions, and they will do anything to keep it that way, including getting rid of anyone standing in their way.
Their story is one that will stick with me for a very long time, and the little blurb at the end giving a little sneak peek into the next book has me wishing I could just hop right into that story, incredible work! 5 ✨’s.
Thank you to the Author Keelin Schafer, for writing this amazing story & for my ebook copy of “Enchantment’s Apprentice”.
I received this advance review copy at no personal cost and all opinions are given voluntarily.
What happens when you take the regency period and combine it with magic? An easy-to-read and fall in love with romance that you can't put down. I loved the romance building within this book. The was the main characters bantered, and the way they fell into friendship and kindness was so wonderful. This book really reminded me that romance doesn't have to burn bright and hot with open-door scenes to make you feel satisfied. I loved that the MMC realized that the mistake that was made by the FMC also fell on him and how he was teaching. He was mature and incredibly well-rounded, despite being in danger. It was awesome seeing that he didn't react emotionally, but logically. The FMC was naive, but, due to her age and upbringing, it's what we expected. She didn't understand the magic she was asking for, and didn't understand that the sacrifice wasn't just what she believed on the surface.
I do wish there was more of an epilogue. I wanted to know what happened and wanted to see them be engaged and get married and fall more in love. But, maybe that will come in the next book with them being side characters? I sure hope so.
What a sweet, perfect blend of Regency romance and magical fantasy!! I’m always a sucker for a good love story and this one hit all the marks. It’s clean and filled with so many tender moments that absolutely pull on your heartstrings. There were times I laughed out loud at the clever quips between characters and times where I was literally holding my breath, wondering how on earth this was going to resolve and we were going to get our happy ending!! Loved loved loved this sweet romance! Excellent read.
My only regret is that I can’t read fast these days and couldn’t get all of this goodness and loveliness into my brain any sooner!!!
Oh my gosh! I was so thrilled to stumble upon such a unique and enchanting story! If you love Pride and Prejudice but want magic, then this NEEDS to be your next read. It was truly such a fun enjoyable book and I devoured it! The plots and intrigue of the London season reach a whole new level of intrigue when spells start to interfere and a life hangs in the balance. In this beautiful, heartwarming story I was grinning and laughing. It truly was a uniquely beautiful genre and I need more magical regency books in my life. A new favorite genre has officially been unlocked!
If you are a fan of Bridgerton/Regency Era books and magic systems like Harry Potter then you will LOVE this book! The beautiful entanglement of the simple magic system mixed with the politics and caste system of a regency book had me hooked from the very beginning! Not only that, but the underlying romance and gut-wrenching backstories has you deeply connected to the characters and rooting for them to get their Happily Ever After!
Without spoiling anything.... I did not expect that plot twist either!!
Soooo good. If you like romance regency as well as magical books this is the absolute PERFECT book to read. Me personally I really like reading fantasy books and I also love romance. I’ve never read a regency fantasy book before but ever since I read this I honestly don’t know why they don’t have more of these kinds of books😭 it literally mixed in all my favourite genres into one book! It was very well written, super fun to read and had the sweetest love story. Absolutely LOVED it!! Definitely recommend.
Enchantment’s Apprentice was a charming read! The writing was solid, the plot threads tied together neatly, and the slow build of tension toward the end paid off beautifully. The happily ever after was sweet and satisfying. If anything, the story leaned a bit simple—but honestly, that was part of its charm. It felt like a refreshing palate cleanser after some of the heavier fantasies I’ve read lately. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a light, cozy escape—think Bridgerton with a young adult fantasy twist.
Discovered this author through her reels, but I didn't realize the reel that left me intrigued was for the plot of book three. "Magical regency" isn't a genre I would naturally be drawn toward, and I'm sure my feelings related to this book reflect that. The world building wasn't enough to help me accept magical spells as a natural part of the Regency ton and I found the FMC to be fairly oblivious, although it was more fun than I expected. I can imagine this book would work better for others, particularly younger readers.
Loved this! The magic system was clearly explained and fascinating. The romance was a nice slow burn with pride and prejudice vibes sprinkled in. The regency setting was a lovely touch that also positively added to the magical system.
All of the characters were given personality, backgrounds and motives for their part in the story. Character growth is always appreciated. I feel characters are usually lacking in development and secondary characters included being unnecessary 80% of the time. However this author utilized everyone fully to create a nicely woven story. Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this story; It felt a bit like pride and prejudice with political intrigue, mystery, twists and magic! Dual pov with a dual timeline allowed us to understand the main characters better while still progressing the story. Schafer gives us the perfect blend of enemies to lovers slow burn romance with forced proximity, age-gap, and regency era tropes and an HEA! Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Cons: This book is more “regency inspired” than true regency romance. A lot of the societal rules, etiquettes, and practices were left out or just ignored. The FMC while lovable, is sooooo naïve. Painfully so. The plot was so obvious in its direction and yet the FMC just kept going along….
I didn’t enjoy reading about everyday humans with magic. There was no enchantment in this story. Of course magic was seen as evil, humans ruin everything.
Enchantments Apprentice was such a good book. I really liked how determined Adaline was to help save her father. The only solution has her being the Viscount Theodore Davenport's Apprentice who she dislikes after a runin at her debut ball, but things arnt that easy. These 2 start to fall for each other. And Chaos happens. I'm really wanting to get this book for my bookshelf now.
I really enjoyed this book. It gives Bridgerton with magic vibes. It's a light read with decent world building and both loveable and detestable characters. The two main characters go through growth and personal development. The story wraps up with a nice tidy ending while also leaving room for more books from this world. Will definitely read those too when they come.
This book was very well written and I loved the concept. However, the FMC was too naive and the crimes she committed were not easy for me to forgive. I loved the MMC and felt he deserved better. I absolutely will read more from this author in the future as I loved her writing style and the genre.
I loved this book! If you love regency vibes, romance, and magic, grab this book immediately! Keelin Schaeffer created a magical world full of intrigue and romance. I can't wait to read the second one in this series!
Found the author from a funny Instagram reel and stayed for her book! Thoroughly enjoyed it too! A fun historical setting with magic and spell casting! A pleasurable read
Bridgerton with a touch of magic! I absolutely adored this book and could hardly put it down. If you're looking for a feel good romance that will have you smiling and giggling to yourself, this is it. I cannot wait to read the next book!
I read this book a little unsure with how it would play out and I was very pleasantly surprised! I love books with fascinating characters and interesting dialogue and this hit the spot! I couldn't put it down!
