3.5 ⭐ (rounding up cuz there's no 3rd act breakup)
This was honestly sweet and adorable. I love their relationship, love, respect, and thoughtfulness.
Reid (34) and Avery (31) met at a bar when she stayed after her jerk date left and sat beside Reid (unknowingly). And before they knew it, they were having a conversation that they were both enjoying way too much. It would've led to something more, but both of them got called for their jobs. So they parted ways and forgot to exchange numbers.
But they met again at a wedding (Book 3 MCs). They didn't know they had mutual friends, and this led to ONS. They agreed to have a FWB setup, but then they found out at a conference that they're rival social media managers. In fact, they've been getting under one's skin for the last three years, and they had no clue at all. This is where the hidden identities came into the picture. 🫣
This revelation puts a stop to everything that's brewing between them. But of course, it didn't last long, and they eventually proceeded to their agreed upon situationship. 😉
The story was honestly good. I love the maturity of the characters and how they communicate and never hide things from each other. I also like the fact that the push and pull didn't last longer than they needed to. But among these things, I looove it the most that they're each other's number one supporters, despite their rivalry. 🥹
It was admirable to see them cheer for their supposed rival but still be able to succeed in their own endeavors. All throughout the story, they never let their competition get in between them. It's quite impressive, honestly, how they're able to separate their jobs from what's going on with them.
As for the FWB setup, it lasted up until the 91% mark. Sure, they had their first date at the 89% mark, but even at that point, they still weren't an official couple. They just admitted they like each other more than just being friends, but the actual dropping of the love bomb and having an official label happened at the 92% mark. And, idk, I wish they got together a lot sooner than that. For the most part, they can't go all the way or be honest with their feelings because of their arrangement. They were sweet with each other, and it shows in their actions, but them being in denial of how they actually feel took away some of the enjoyment I was having with the story. 🫣 Actions aren't enough, I also need the words to back it up, sorry. 😅
Like I said, it was good, but I have to say that this could've been a few pages shorter. Some scenes were dragged out, and I got bored with the things happening between the 70%–85% mark. Idk, I love the domesticity and their jobs, but some of them felt so repetitive, and I found myself skimming some of those scenes. 🫣
Also, I wish there'd been some conclusion with Reid's father and a change in their relationship. Idk why it was even mentioned in the story if he and his dad were not going to at least fix what's wrong with their interactions. Probably not really fully fixed, but a decent beginning nonetheless. 🤷♀️
Moving past my issues 😂 it's refreshing to see a FMC that isn't inexperienced at all. Avery was described as someone who had explored her sexuality in the past, had relationships, and had casual interactions (but I still think it's only a handful). As for Reid, he's the long term and relationship type of guy. He had only been with two women and even got engaged to one, but the ex ended it because Reid's job became his priority. Yet, even if that's the case, he's still well versed when it comes to female pleasure. 🤭 And maaan, the mouth of this guy. 🥵 Idk how he managed to be awkward and hot at the same time. 🤭
And what I think I enjoyed about their sex lives is that it showed that a person didn't have to have a lot of sexual partners to be good at it. Reid was good (amazing, Avery's word), and she was too. They were good together, compatible, hot, and explosive, and yet they were still learning, as the story goes. They did trial and error and had some awkward moments, but in the end, they had fun and learned more about each other. This is very steaaaamy! So readers can expect a lot of *ehem*. 😂🥵
Anyway, all I just want to say is that it was good, although I still think this could've been a few pages shorter. 😅 It had me swooning in a lot of moments. I loved the MCs; they were both likeable (for me). I love their honesty, openness, trust, respect, support, and dedication to their jobs. It was an enjoyable read, mostly smooth sailing with a few bumps on the road, but still a worthwhile story nonetheless. 💖

- OMD. Not really, h's ex attended the conference where she's the key note speaker, and approached her. Reid saw the interaction and saved her from him because the ex was being a bit handsy.
- Some women did flirt with Reid, but he didn't give them time.
- Both celibate after their ONS. Months passed before they agreed to the FWB setup. They tried to stick with their rivalry, but their attraction and hormones won. 🤭 Also, this arrangement lasted for six months (I think???). 🫠🙃
