When Willow’s papa says they are bound for Oregon on the next wagon train. She can hardly fathom the ache of leaving everything familiar behind. Sure, there will be good things, too—like not saying goodbye to Gideon Riley, even though he’s still oblivious to her. She keeps her emotions in tight check until a fit of melancholy sends her fleeing. If only Papa had given her a choice!
When Gideon sees Willow Chancellor run past with tears streaking her cheeks, he can’t leave her heartbroken and alone. Her father should have mentioned the trip sooner so she could adjust. Gid finds her at the creek, and as she collapses into his arms, he pushes away thoughts of how easy it would be to get used to this. She deserves a man who can love her without the burden of past loss. He must keep his distance.
But when the cry of “fire!” goes up from town, they discover that it’s the Chancellor’s mercantile engulfed in flames!
And as Gideon scrambles to keep Willow from dashing into the inferno, he realizes that neither one of them may ever have a choice about their future again.
LYNNETTE BONNER, the daughter of missionaries, was born and raised in Malawi, Africa, graduated high school from Rift Valley Academy, a boarding school in Kenya, and attended Northwest University in Washington, where she met her husband, Marty. A few years after their marriage, they moved to Pierce, Idaho. While studying the history of their little town, Lynnette was inspired to begin The Shepherd’s Heart Series with Rocky Mountain Oasis. Marty and Lynnette have four children and currently live in Washington, where Marty pastors a church.
4.5 stars This was another good one in the series. This follows Willow who is informed by her father she will be joining the wagons east mentioned in the first book. Before that can happen there is a fire and her father passes away. This is the story of her and Gideon. I liked the gradual process of their relationship as well and the mystery element. It also had some grief elements. Looking forward to the third.
Mercy, Malicah and Gideon were fortunate to find jobs with the store owner and his daughter Willow. They were able too earn money for supplies and to put it themselves for their trip west to Oregon. The store owner knew how to build wagons which he taught to Malicah and Gideon how to build them. Willow knew all this as the men were building their wagons for their trip to Oregon, she never thought about the fact that there were three was being build and outfitted. With almost no notice her father told Willow he had sold the store and they were going to Oregon. "How can he do this.". This had been her entire life, her memories of her mother, her friends everything was about the store they lived and worked in, now she had just two weeks to get ready to leave it all behind and join a wagon train heading west. But tragedy strikes, the new owner shows up to claim the property and before they know it the store is on fire. Willow's father is pulled from the fire by the new owner but dies from inhaling to much smoke. Before he dies he asks Gideon to take good care of Willow and make her happy. The wagon master will not let Single women travel.Gideon and Willow marry. Willow Does not want a marriage of convenience,She wants love Can she and Gideon Find the love That will make the marriage work? Can escape the danger that her father was worried that she would be in ? Find the answers in this second book of The Oregon Promise series
This is a sweet faith based historical story of a wagon train heading to Oregon. It is a part of a series but can be read as a stand alone book. Willow’s dad has owned the Mercantile in Independence for as long as she can remember and she has been helping him to run it since for all of her adult life. When he informs her that he has sold the store and they will be headed to Oregon with the next wagon train, she is devastated. Gideon is one of the travelers who has been helping the past year in order for to be properly prepared for the trip west. She had a crush on him when he first arrived but it became obvious he did not feel the same. There is danger all around them. Read how they end up traveling west together.
Gideon and Willow always seemed to be at odds with each other because of the pain and grief in their hearts. The villains in this story were truly despicable and heartless. But I love the scriptures you used about grief and rejoicing, as I lost my son a year ago and the grief still over takes me quite often. The scriptures comforted me so much that you wrote into the story and really made me think that I haven’t been rejoicing that he is with God. I love your books and greatly recommend them to everyone. Wagon ho and on to Oregon. God had his way in a lot of lives in this book.
I wasted no time reading this second book in this series. The front cover is so beautiful.I highly recommend readers add the audible along with the book. The narrators are some of the best I have heard. Willow and Edi were my favorite characters. All the characters captured my heart except the bad guys. The book is filled with prayers and scripture which added immensely to the story. I will read other books by this author as I wait for Book 3 in the Oregon Promise series. The author's first name got my attention before I read Book 1. We both share the same first name spelled exactly the same way.
This was a very nice read written by Lynnette Bonner. This was Beneath Brazed Skies (Oregon Promise Book 2) and is very well written. Gideon made a promise to Willows father to make her happy if anything was to happen to him. Just before the wagon train that, they were on, Willows father dies in a fire. Yet there is unanswered questions about the fire. Who started it, why was it started, just so many questions. What are the answers in this enjoyable read.
This was such a good book. It is full of love and faith, but also danger and suspense. Willow has always been attracted to Gideon, but he is fearful to love again after losing his wife and daughter. When circumstances force them together, she is heartbroken because she feels like he can never love her. As they both rely on their faith in God, He brings healing to them and guides them to a future together. I am loving this series and can't wait for the next book.
Don't miss this second installment in the Oregon Promise series! Willow looses everything and marries the man she has secretly loved to join the wagon train on the Oregon Trail. Gideon is afraid to love again and be hurt. You will love this sweet, inspirational, love story. This is a stand alone book but you will want to go back and read the first one! I'm ready for the next book in the series!
What a wonderful story of earlier as people headed west to claim homesteads in a barren new state. There's romance, crime including murder, family problems, heartache, and faith in God. Lynette Bonner is a prolific author of many historical stories. A book to enjoy.
I’m new to Lynnette Bonner, this is my first series. I got the first book as a freebie and then had to buy this one because The first was SO good. I love how real these characters are- they don’t just immediately bounce back and forget all the past trauma. They’re learning and growing.
Willow and Gid marry out of commitment, but find love, trail blazing, a murderer… and did I say Love
As Willows father dies and her friend try’s to fulfill a promise to care for her as they head West, each page is full of surprises. True love wins, but you will still be holding your breath at the end.
This is an exciting and adventurous trail ride just leaving Independence. They encounter devastating fire, death, and poisoning along the way. They also have families couples and some working to find love along the way. You will enjoy reading this tale.
I loved this book. And I believe I have bought all of Mrs Booker's books. They have lots of drama lots of twists and turns. They are based on faith in God's goodness. Thank you for another great book.
I can’t imagine losing someone that way Willow had. So sad. That evil Corbin got what he deserved in the end and thank God for Edi, he didn’t miss! Gideon and Willow had so much to work through but love conquers all. Great read!
This story was heartbreaking yet so full of love. I loved the way grief was displayed I loved the introduction of new characters and the roles each one played especially Edi
A beautiful story. Many people try to rely on themselves to make everything perfect. It is so good to know people going through hard times can rely on each other as family. I loved the story.
I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the characters in these books and how she ties in how we can rest in the comfort of the Lord when we are enduring storms in life.
Lynnette captures ones attention from the beginning and continues it to the end...leaving the reader wanting more. I so look forward to be neo in the series. Thank you lynnette, may God bless you always.
Once again, Lynette keeps me engaged. I read this one slower as I was hoping book 3 would be out. Like all the other books, I want to know more about the characters we've learned to love. Looking forward to the next in series.
This story was so good! I loved the adventures of these characters! Their trials and tribulations brought them through with deeper Faith! This author brings alive all her characters leading them to another place closer to the Lord!
These 2 books are truly worth reading. The resilience of the characters is amazing. You can only imagine what these pioneers really went through. What wonderful stories. Can’t wait for a book 3 I hope
Book 2 of the Oregon Promise series was even more exciting than Lynnette’s first book. I felt my heart racing as I read through the chapters of fire and deception. Her scripture verses were spot on.
Historical fiction is the best. So enjoy how the historical facts are intertwined in the fictional stories and characters. It was a time of adventure and new discoveries for these realistic characters.
I chose the five star rating since the story was a great continued book. The characters are enduring and the story is engaging, fun and with adventure to boot! You'll want to share with your friends.
I have read the first two books and enjoyed them. Thank you for sharing your work with us. I also read your Shepherds Heart series and recommend them to Christian book readers. Enjoy…..
I LOVED this story!❤️❤️ Once again love conquers tragedy! I felt SO sorry for Willow and her loss, but, Gil was true to his word and love blossomed! Looking forward to #3 in the Oregon Promise series!😊
A continuation of Mercy and Micah and Gideon and Willow’s adventure heading toward Oregon. A wonderful Christian story. Can’t wait to read the third in the series!
This story gave me a sweet feeling of the Lord's grace and love. I would recommend it for women who enjoy love stories that show faith in the characters.
