When JC found out Danu had a $5000 bounty on her head, there was no choice. He had to return her to the original owner. His mistake was thinking that leaving his partner would be the tough part of his first winter out west. When King asked him for a favor he accepted, you didn't turn down someone with his power casually. It seemed straightforward, go to New Orleans and figure out how to sell a building. What it turned into was something so much more. JC quickly finds himself needing every bit of knowledge he has, from his early years on the streets of New York to his education in law. In New Orleans he finds friends, family, and a love he never expected but he also finds danger. He didn't plan on getting involved with the political nightmare but when he stepped in to save someone in an alley all that went sideways. The resentment buried just under the surface is ready to explode. If this goes wrong the streets will be covered in blood, he has to find his way through without lighting the fuse. All of it needs to be done before spring because he gave his word to Max. He would be at the Bar C by spring no matter what.
Fun read, well thought out story. However… Filled with grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors. The author can TELL a story, but putting it in writing is a skill he does not possess. A simple proofreading would make these books have the potential to become classics. It was completely distracting and made it frustrating enough to make me consider not continuing to read. Hell, send ‘em to me, I’ll proofread them for nothing.
As with the first book this story was excellent. Many times in both books I had to pause and think about what was being said(which to me did not keep me from enjoying it overall) from misspelling or errors in grammar. There were a few complaints in other reviews. It was an inconvenience but could be worked thru. I like the first person aspect and the internal struggle and introspection as the main character learns and grown in order to navigate his new life. I am looking forward to the next book.
This much like the first one in this Series was beyond excellent! This Author has rapidly become one my favorites in the Storyline of each of these unique Characters. Lots of Action and Suspense on every page, keeping my Attention like no other. Truly fascinating 16 year old growing up in the West with all of the many dangers and his unique way of dealing with each one...
JC is a very capable deadly young man. Book one was also 5 star and where it ended this one picked right up. I wish book 3 will be finished and ready to read very quickly. I recommend the first two highly. If you love Western with great characters then you are in for a great read. Robert Knox please keep them coming.
Needs a proofreader. Missing words inserted words and wrong context of words makes for rough reading. Main character is good and his exploits have adventure, and intrigue in them. Sometimes author gets a bit wordy explaining things but in all the book is a good read just keep the f bomb out of it
This is a great western with plenty of action, but its a great story about the settling of the west and the lives and attitudes of the various types of people bent on finding their place in this new nation. His descriptions of the landscapes are lyrical! Great writer, can't wait for the next!
The Stone Cold Adventures were two of the best western stories I have read in quite a while. The characters are interesting and fun, the stories are lively and overall, both books were great reads. I hope Robert Knox will continue to expand this series which is beautifully set up follow the main character into his old age.
I was impressed. I haven't left a review for the last 200 or so books I have read. The story kept you interested from cover to the end. I'm ready to start the last remains book 2. What I liked best was the even flow of the story. I'm a fan Mr Knox.
What a great read. Very interesting account of a Young man’s first experience of being a Cowboy down in southern Texas in the early part of the 19th century. The authors obvious deep knowledge shows describing their lives and how they lived and worked in a deeply dangerous environment. Highly recommended.
As I mentioned in my last review, I like the stories, but Robert, ya gotta do something about the impressive amount of misspellings, bad semantics and syntax, as well as sentence structure. I doubt you did this, so it was probably either a lazy editor or a computer program run amok. Most annoying.
I fear enjoyed reading this book, the first one was god but this one is even better. I can't eat for the next one. These books give you a picture of how some of the times could be very dangerous for anyone, no matter where you were or who you are.
This book ,along with the other two were good read my only fault with this book, was the atrocious spelling. Was this book not edited or couldn't the editor spell? Spell check dummy!
Excellent writing and great story. As an 80 year old I thought it would be routine. Fantastic job combining life as it was with great characters and descriptions. I will be looking for the next book. SOON!!!
Been looking for a new Western series for a long time. Really excellent writing. Goes deeper and I like that. R. O. Lanes got nothing on Knox unless it's the number of books that he's written. Keep writing! I'll buy them all.
As with the first book this book continues a good story line with good descriptions and characters. It leaves you hungry for the next book. Recommended read but start with book 1!
I enjoyed these westerns. The story line is good. But the spelling is atrocious! Doesn't anybody spell check or edit your books? It really takes away from what would otherwise be some good stories.
Mr. Knox is gifted writer. It is certainly a cut above the average western. If you enjoy thoughtful dialogue with yourself, then enjoy some thoughtfulness.
This was the best and most entertaining of your two books I've read I can't wait for the next one . Still think they would make a great Western series. Thanks again for the great read. The away you structure your stories you are the with them.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book. This one not so much. To difficult to keep up with. To many characters. Also, Cajun dialect hard to understand. Some people may like it, not me. Sorry
Really like the story and the characters. Hate the misspelling of keywords, like reigns for reins and missing words in sentences. I guess being a retired report editor makes me critical. I do enjoy reading your books.
This author has captured my appreciation for a great story teller that is not the same boring story that has been told a thousand times. Loved the actual history of his stories. I look forward to reading many more of his books. I hope you have a long and successful career entertaining us.
While there are a few grammar hiccups, I have to say that this series keeps you hooked from the start. Compelling decriptions and good character building. I am not an avid western reader but I am enjoying these quite a lot.
This is the second book in this series that I've read and both are great stories but the proofreading is almost non-existent. I would have given 4 stars if proof wasn't so bad.
You look for series like this and rarely find them. This author takes his characters to another level. Be warned though, the formatting is probably the worst I've ever seen. Just be patient, it's worth it
If you care to read a story that is well written and easy to read; this one will do it. It is a straight out and easy to follow story line. A true Western that delivers it all; mostly. I'm glad I got to read it.
Knox paints a realistic picture and keeps it interesting. My only suggestion is to have someone proof this before print. Too many typos. Way too many things like there instead of they're for example.
Mr Knox’s imagery is so vibrant you get lost in his world. You can feel the wind blow and the hush of the snowfall. I love the real characters. The whole story sucks you in and makes you reach for his next book.
JC stone, what good reading totally enjoyed the stories between New Orleans and Texas. I wad right with JC went felt in love with Belinda, enjoyed getting into character living in the story, can't wait for book. I finally was able to understand the journey.
A young Teenager learns early lessons while living in New York. He heads West to learn how to be a successful Cowboy o he can have his own Ranch in Montana.
Enjoy this author very much good descriptions of scenery. The characters are all believable. A lot of spelling errors but doesn't detract from the syory
