... did not expect these to hit as hard as they did...
So, I am working my way through all of the BattleTech literature stuff. Saw the Anthology books listed in the lists of BattleTech books in the back of several of them, and was all, "well, I could prolly bang my way through all of these pretty quickly, and feel good about reading a decent chunk of BattleTech stuff"
It is prolly going to take me about three times as long to read through a single anthology that it does to read a trilogy of novels
Now, the novels are explosion-porn. And I love that about them. I cannot really complain about somebody making books I enjoy. I do know that people will act that explosion-porn is not real literature--or at least not a proper set of literature to spend time reading
These short stories are a bit closer to what those who'd disdain explosion-porn would hold up as "better usage of literature" or whatevers. Now, it isn't like they are super deep or thoughtful. However, compared to the various novels that at some places read like a Looney Tunes cartoon, these are quite a bit more poignant
Had to stop and think about things for a bit after each short story
I will note that there are some short stories I really did not like. For example "Commerce Is All" was kind of a bit gross, contrite and read a bit like something a person on Reddit would jerk off over writing. But like... if a collection of different authors and approaches did not have an entry I was all, "eeewwww"--than I'm not certain it did its job to grab a decent array of works from writers
These works are short, use every word to their proper value--and work to describe events that do not require an entire novel
I will be going through more of these... but... uh... I'm likely going to do more stuff with the novels. Not just because there are more novels--but because the novels tend to be more in the silly explosions-porn areas of things, and well... as much as I do appreciate the more serious area of things--I'm going to mostly stick to using these as pallete cleansers to better appreciate the explosion-porn, occasionally melodramatic, novels

Interesting stories well told
I enjoy any Battletech stories and these are interesting tales from outside the driving characters or further background on them. Worth it, just not excellent

Interesting read
Very interesting read, I love these short stories they cover a lot of different subjects in the battletech universe and it's not just from the mech warriors point of view. Great
