Camryn Van Lingen is an artist and avid reader who lives in the Midwest with her husband and two cats. Though she started writing in elementary school, it wasn’t until her first year of teaching that she published her debut novel. She strives to craft character-driven stories with a deeper meaning (and a good plot twist), weaving elements of her faith into each one.
Camryn has a degree in Art Education and currently teaches high school Media Production and Cybersecurity. If she’s not teaching or cuddling her cats, you’ll likely find her dreaming up her next book.
Very good plot and entertaining twists! For the plot I would give it 3 stars. There were a few things I didn’t like too much about the book, but that is my personal preference. I see a lot of potential in this author, her imagination is very creative!
I really enjoyed this book! Camryn Van Lingen is such a descriptive writer, which is something that I particularly love in a writer. In the ending how they reflected on the butterflies was such an inspiration. “The butterfly is a fragile testament to resilience. Its delicate wings, now a symphony of colors, reminds us every struggle is a brushstroke in the masterpiece of our becoming. Only through trial and transformation can true beauty be attained.” I really enjoyed the plot! The way she brought it together was really cool (lol if you can’t tell I am trying to do this without any spoilers). The romance was really cute! It is not spicy, but there were a few parts that I was very surprised at. Naya is definitely a mix of emotions in the end I will just say that. I liked the way they trusted in God and how we all fall short and forget to trust Him sometimes. It is definitely a real and true thing. Harper!!!!!!!!! Whyyyyyyyyy. That is all I am gonna say about that before I spoil anything. Thank you so much for writing this book Camryn Van Lingen. I cannot wait for your new book coming out in 2025!!! Happy Reading and JYL!!! <3 :)
This book was a delightful surprise! The cover promised an adventure, but also hinted at a light fun read, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.
Turns out the cover accurately portrays the book! It’s so rewarding when that happens!
Nowhere has a very DITL feel, with just enough of the mystery revealed in each scene to keep you engaged. You see the characters eat their meals and walk to work and back home again, but I never found it monotonous because each thought and emotion tied to a bigger plot.
It definitely reads like a mystery, with some dystopian vibes, but those vibes were, in my opinion, underlying.
Read on for spoilers!
Naya was mysteriously attacked in an alley. A few months later, she’s recovered physically, but mentally she struggles. Enter Atlas, a boy she’s had a strange dream about; and it turns out he’s had the same dream. And why are there so many butterflies everywhere?
Because the government is tampering with their minds.
Naya and Atlas fight to discover the truth and stop the evil from spreading. Meanwhile, their attraction to each other seems so strong, almost like they’ve known each other so much longer than they actually have…
This is a futuristic novel. It moves a little slow at the start, I lost interest, but picked it up again, skipped ahead a little and it caught my attention. I will read it again and get the full feel for it. I liked the fact that it is a Christian fiction book. It is hard to find sometimes, Christian science fiction fantasy.
The book is about VR Virtual Reality, with technology implanted in the brain. It's a little scary, but a little real, also. I would never want any technology implanted in my brain. Apparently the the main characters of the book, Naya and Atlas didn't want the implants either. They are continually fighting what is real and what is not real.
QQ ...using VR to manipulate and monitor citizens without their knowledge.... Sounds quite doable in parts of today's society.
I received a complimentary copy of #Nowhere from #CamrynVanLingen I was not obligated to post a review.
I received Nowhere by Camryn Van Lingen for free via LibraryThing. The following is my honest review.
Nowhere was such a unique read, which is just what I needed to jolt me out of my reading slump. The genre was a little hard to place - sort of a mix of YA dystopian and realistic sci-fi. Let's just say I loved it.
The author expertly weaved the plot through a near-future world where the government is working on mind control technology. The main characters, Naya and Atlas, must determine what is reality and how to stop the project. I can usually spot a twist a mile away but even I was surprised about a few things.
I recommend for ages 16+ due to some themes. I sure hope there is a sequel in the works!
