Gnomes, Witches, and Ghosts. Oh Great. And it's not even noon.
I'd worked as a psychic counselor, using tarot cards to help my clients find their best path and make better decisions. It was fulfilling work, but I always felt as if I could do more. And then one day I burned out.
After chilling for a while in a mansion owned by my best friend's cat, I accepted a position in Moon Lake at Mystwood Retreats as the director. I knew it would be a challenge, but I didn't expect to be dumped into the middle of secrets, lies, and a murder investigation.
Can I solve the murder before my new powers blow the town to bits?

Lucia Kuhl is the author of thirty midlife paranormal cozy mysteries. She believes every story needs at least one ghost, maybe a witch, or possibly an angel. A pet is always good. Talking forest animals are even better. Oh, and a hint of romance while headstrong, opinionated characters mingle.
A few of her women sleuths carry guns. Some only need magic. And her characters never miss a chance to dance. Lucia enjoys exploring tough subjects and lighting them in humorous ways to lessen the sting while showcasing their root issues. Her books contain no sex, strong violence, or profanity.

Moving to a new town for a job just to end up trying to solve a murder mystery is what happens with this book. There are many characters and paranormal thing going on. Kept me flipping pages to see what happens.
This one earns my devotion—there’s so much story jammed into under 100 pages! A word of warning from my experience: this may not be the book to read while distracted. I tend to play audiobooks before bed, while cleaning, or running errands, and I lost count of how many times I had to rewind to catch a detail I missed.
The story follows Marla, a recently single, midlife woman who moves to the enchanting town of Moon Lake, where magic is alive and well. Right away, she’s claimed by a mischievous garden gnome and inherits a talking cat with sass to spare. As she settles into her new home, she discovers it's already occupied—by a ghost who needs her help to locate her missing body and solve her own murder.
At the same time, Marla is uncovering magical abilities she never knew she had. But with magic comes mystery, and Marla must quickly learn who in this seemingly quaint town is friend or foe.
Perfect for fans of short, fast-paced paranormal cozies with humor, talking animals, and a touch of magical mayhem. Just make sure you're paying attention—Moon Lake doesn’t slow down for anyone.
This was engaging enought that I immediately went and grabbed the next book in the series. It had some weird moments and a few strange characters. The next book should be interesting.

I'm not sure who proof read this, but they need caffeine. That bell was pulled out of the ground three times. She was sure that Asher was the digger in the yard since the bandage was on his arm. Yet she wondered if Jason might have been the digger. Then after finding Asher's body in Abracadabra, she called Caleb to come there. At the end of that chapter she and Echo were getting in the car to go to Abracadabra, without having left her grandparents house in Abracadabra. I really liked the characters and the use of gnomes. But some of this drove me crazy backtracking to confirm what I read.
I'm a huge fan of the other two series Lucia Kuhl writes so I figured this series would be along the same lines and I have to say, I was presently surprised!
While Haunted Homes and Witches Gnomes has all of the magic and mystery we have come to expect from Lucia Kuhl. There was also lots of new fun characters not just Luna and Echo; whom I adore!!! Also lots of fun characters they meet and interact with. While those we know and love from the other series make a small appearance here and there.
I gave this such a low rating because: 1. It read as if you were coming in in the middle of the story, even though it was the first book in a series; 2. There were so many characters that were named once and then you were supposed to remember who they were. I was confused throughout the whole story, and I had no idea what was going on. I kept thinking, "Who's he?"
Even so, the story was written well, and I liked the cat.
This is about Luna who's a psychic counselor. Her cat, Echo, can talk to her. She visits her grandparent's home after the death of her grandmother and finds gnomes.
Lots and lots of gnomes.
Gnomes who move and speak and plan to help her.
There's a murder, of course, so we get to see if she, her talking cat and talking and moving gnomes can solve things. It's a different take on books of this type and the author does a good job with it.
A large portion of the book is either boring or illogical. There are things missing for the story to flow, and I had to constantly question why the protagonist thinks and does as she does. Many characters are not likable. I think the second half is better, but it's still not good enough for me to continue reading.

I started this book mid morning and I finished it this afternoon. I was looking for a story that would hold my interest and I found it. Very interesting witches, magic and non-magical characters. Love Echo the cat and Luna the psychic witch…see? interesting!
Picked this up on a whim from KU, and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. I liked the premise and the setting, plus the quirky characters that you discover (those gnomes!), and while I wasn't completely enamoured by the characters, there was enough there that I will pick up the second book to see where this goes. Fast paced and full of interesting characters.
This was a very enjoyable read. The characters are well developed even though this isn't a long book. I liked Luna and Echo, and the gnomes were a great addition to the story. A paranormal cozy mystery with a few twists and enough snarky banter that I laughed several times while reading.
Being a fan of Lycia Kuhl’s Moon Lake series, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to read more. This book did not disappoint! Sit down, get comfy, and prepare for a wild ride!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, fantastic characters, great storyline, mystery, magic, murder and a tenacious cat who helps out along with the gnomes, fun read
The characters are captivating, and the narrative weaves an engaging storyline that compels me to continue exploring this enthralling series. Each page draws me deeper into the world, leaving me eager to discover what happens next.
A town full of magical beings & humans, what could go wrong?
Very enjoyable book, well written by an excellent storyteller. You will quickly be drawn into the story, trying to solve all the mysteries she encounters. You'll love the gnomes. I give it 5 stars!
