it’s a not for me

Freaking TikTok got me again! People out here making clips saying this book is “soooo dark, soooo twisted”. Yeah, no.

Does it have dark themes? Sure. Okay I’ll give you that. But it felt like the author just kind of chucked stuff at the page and went with it.

I can overlook the Stockholm syndrome, it happens pretty often in dark romance books, but this was just a mess. The writing style is juvenile and the pacing is all off. The rush from the FMC hating the guys to being “theirs” was just so fast. Even if the author wanted this to be a quick read, she could have just added some time jumps. Anyways…

The FMC is supposed to be 20 but acts like a child over and over again. The “why me” was obnoxious. And so was everything with the random father’s friend who only wanted her because she looked like her mom.

I don’t understand the MMCs either…why the obsession? Why are they “messed up”. There was nothing given about them.

80% of this book was just random plot thrown together. The beginning was decent, but it only too until about 30% in for me to feel like this was a waste of time. 🫤

Yet another take on Credence… 💀🙄

1/5⭐️ 3.5/5🌶️

——• 🖤

CAN NO ONE ELSE FUCKING SEE IT????

I mean it’s one thing to use a book as inspiration but to COPY it is just outrageous… I’m talking everything from the brothers doing motocross and woodwork to the fucking fishing cabin out back near the pond.. I mean even the girl had dead parents with no family to return to?

Same same but different, minus the uncle…
IDGAF go read Credence, it's better than this shit

The premise of this book was right up my street and this was a book I had high expectations for. I'm a sucker for anything dark and disturbed so I went into this blind. Unfortunately, it didn't really deliver for me and whilst there were parts I enjoyed i also found it somewhat rushed and underdeveloped in places.

This type of fiction is hard to pull off with authenticity. There also needs to be a decent backstory and character development to give some nuance and hook in the reader. I just wasn't invested enough in the characters, they were not developed enough for me to experience that connection to them. Their actions didn't make much sense and the turnaround in personality especially in regards to Dax just didn't feel believable or authentic.

This also didn't flow well, the narration style was overly simplistic with not enough added meat. The transition from captive to Stockholm occurred over such a short period of time and there was no pivotal lightbulb moment for Flora when she then slipped over that edge. Basically, the way I see it they just wore her down.

This also didn't feel that dark or shocking and for large parts of this I was wondering where that promised darkness was. When it did arrive it was such a 360 that I felt like I was reading a totally different book that just happened to share the same characters, it was that extreme. Dax and Lyka came across more as tyrannical schoolroom bullies than dark and without moral compasses which I'm assuming was the intent.

I also wasn't a fan of all of the earlier sexual shenanigans, it added zero to the overall plot. The Marty inclusion didn't lead anywhere so why even include it? Lyka and Dax's hookups again why? Especially when Flora wasn't afforded the same courtesy and the fact every female except Nancy seemed to be a mega bitch.

I did like the whole set-up I just didn't think this was executed well. Also before anyone comes at me it wasn't the dark themes and content I had an issue with, these things I was 100% there for I just didn't find anything here that shocking if I'm honest. The spice though was definitely on point and I have no complaints in that department. The encounters between Flora Dax and Lyka were scorching. So if you're after a hot read it has you covered in that department.

Be aware though if you want to give this a go we do have dub-con and borderline non-con, but again it didn't even blip me, we also have some sexual sadism which honestly wasn't that bad. I was more shocked by the bear incident that was bloody sadistic. You're not me though so I'd suggest you check your triggers before picking this up.

Jesus Christ, what on earth was that?! Terrible writing, incredibly rushed. It was as if she read credence and thought, “I could write this so much better” but it was in fact so much worse!!!! It also felt as if she wrote a list of “trigger warnings” BEFORE she wrote the book as a list of things she wanted to include. Absolutely horrendous. Clearly never had sex before either, two dicks at the same time after only have sex like twice before… LOL!!!!!! I cried once I finished the book out of pure joy for finishing but also for the wasted time I spent reading this piece of shit.

I just like to say before starting this review that yes I did deleted my old one and here are my reasons and also my review on this book. Also want to add this is my review, my opinion on the book! Not everyone likes the same stuff. I know this book isn’t a fluffy romance.

After having a good think and physically being put into a reading slump (not in a good way) I’m rating this book 1 ⭐️. Firstly I will say I enjoyed the first bit of the book, flora meeting the boys for the first time and her with her dad and all that, it had great potential and I was so excited. But then it started to go down hill for me, I wish this author took more time with this book either making it bigger or 2 book series as it feels rushed and not enough time for everything to be happening. Stockholm syndrome does not take a few weeks to happen. It happens over time, I know this book is fictional but if that’s going to have real life things then it needs to be done correctly. There is no CNC in this book at all it is full on 🍇 the woman is saying no and that she hates them while sobbing! Also even in her thoughts she’s saying she hates that and that she hates them as well. She also gets held down while one of the brothers finish in her when she said no. If you are gonna write about 🍇 put it in the trigger warnings as SA and 🍇 are two different things. For example SA is someone touching another person in a sexual away without consent and 🍇 is someone penetrating someone else. This needs to be in the trigger warnings so people know and are prepared if they would like to read this book. I would also like to mention that I do enjoy dark romance when it is done correctly and has the correct trigger warnings. I can handle dark romance just because I don’t like one doesn’t mean I can’t handle or do not like other dark romances. I’ve seen how people are reacting below to bad reviews so just wanted to add that in.
EDIT: 🍇 has now been added into the trigger warnings of this book. I just wanted to mention before people comment “it’s there” but I am not going to delete my review as this is how I felt and stuff

THIS BOOK WAS WILD. more to come later as i just finished this and it’s 2am. this was incredible

OK BACK TO SAY THIS WAS SO FREAKING GOOD. This is a dark romance so if you have tw, please make sure to check the authors website before reading.

I knew it was going to have a mindfuck in the book but I genuinely didn’t it coming. My jaw was on the floor.

THIS BOOK IS SPICY TOO. The fmc ends up stuck with these two bikers in their cabin and she makes the best out of the situation that’s for sure 💀💀 but the two bikers are brothers 🔥

i’m old so it’s not very often that i find books i’m willing to lose sleep over but i read this entire book in one sitting. SO GOOD.

I’ve been debating what to rate this book for the last 24 hours, and decided to settle on 3 stars.

Firstly I want to say that I really enjoyed the story, and loved Dax and Lyke👄🔥. The twists were fun, and as my second dark romance read it was really good. The chapter sizes were perfect, and I flew through this in one sitting ✈️.

My main reason for rating this down was because I was not sure about the writing style. The way this was written read a little too ‘simplistic’ for me, and I felt a lot of areas could have had more development, I.e the spice scenes and the build up to some of the main plot elements. Additionally, some aspects made me think this is not realistic and far fetched.

Again I must stress that the above doesn’t mean I think you shouldn’t read this, you most definitely should read this because I thought about it all night and even had crazy dreams. I just think some aspects could do with some more tweaking (no pun intended).

Thanks so much Jade for sending me the ARC of this book to read and review! 💕

I try to support indie authors as much as I can, and I’m a sucker for all things dark romance and a laundry list of triggers, but I could not get over the writing style. (Paraphrasing ONE PARAGRAPH) “I unlaced my hiking boots. I filled up my water bottle. I turned to the cabinet for a snack. I sink into the couch” like OMGGG it was so mechanical and …elementary? I had to DNF it, I’m sorry😩

I had such high hopes for this book!😩Especially with the tropes being right up my street and the fact I’d seen such high ratings. It definitely had the potential however this book just wasn’t for me unfortunately!
The writing was very robotic from the start. I carried on reading as I had seen that it was supposed to get better as it went on but it didn’t. I feel like that ruined the whole experience for me.
Also the FMCs thoughts that were written on the page was quite contradicting and annoying as well as the MMCS behaviour.I just wished it was done differently.
I’ve seen a lot of people enjoy it so maybe someone reading this review could love it but personally it’s not a book I will be recommending🤍

Thank you so much to the author for giving me a chance to read this as an ARC!🫶🏻

ARC REVIEW-I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

“What happens in Cedarwood cabin, stays in Cedarwood cabin.”

This book is why we have the “Dark Romance” genre along with trigger warnings. 🤣 Why is it SO easy to love the bad boy??? I shouldn’t love Dax and Lyka, but I just can’t help myself!!

Flora is a 20 year old woman who moves from the UK to America after the loss of her mother. Just when she’s settling in, and begins to see a future forming for her, tragedy strikes again.

Dax and Lyka help Flora pick up the pieces of her falling to pieces life, but are they who they seem?

This book is full of twists and turns. It had me crying, had me mad, and had me in shock. And the spicy!! WHEW! I mean, damn. Dax and Lyka pull out ALL the stops.

Jade Wilkes has a masterpiece here. If you loved the spice of the Ravenhood series, you will LOVE Cedarwood Cabin!!

Ok so I watched a video and it alluded to a spicy cabin book. I took that at face value, didn’t even read the description. I have no one to blame but myself. I get that. But what in the actual efffffffff?!

The initial weed brownie scene. I’m thinking “wow I’m definitely not into that”. But then the immediate next chapter?! Well I’m DEFINITELY NOT INTO THAT.

I was initially going to rate it two stars because…. Wow. Because I read this in one sitting. Which I’m most definitely not proud of. But the longer I sit on this the longer I think this may actually be the most messed up book I’ve read, at least in some time.

But I guess they all have matching brands now???

??!!!???!!!

Like, is this author ok? Should someone check on her? Someone should check on her.

Where can I get myself my own Dax and Lyka asking for a friend ? ☺️😏

Let's just start off by saying, CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS !!!!!!!!!  Because this book gets real dark real fast, 😏

This book was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and BOY it hit the spot. I loved it so much that I flew through it, and when I was done, I wished I could read it again for the first time.
The spice was spicing, and the plot was plotting. All I can say is that if you are looking for your next favorite dark, and I mean DARK  romance book, READ THIS BOOK !!!!

Okay, that was a fun ride. We started a bit sweet and vulnerable, and ended up… completely dark and luscious. And still vulnerable. I understand why the book is as it is, but I still wish the unhinged part played a bigger role in the book because I ate it up. We knew that the Faulkner brothers, from the first time we encounter them, would be delicious and they didn’t disappoint. I want them to bring me to their Cedarwood Cabin too. As for Flora, that was a lot to process.

Cedarwood Cabin was a nice mixture of sweet and dark, perfect for a quick Summer read.

OK, so I got an advanced listener copy🎧 of this audiobook and I need to start out by saying I do not enjoy dual narration and I was really hesitant to listen for that reason because I feel like it has a large impact on the way I’m going to review this book and that’s kind of not fair imo.

The only reason I took a chance on the audiobook is because it is Teddy Hamilton and he is my all-time favorite, but don’t go into this audio expecting to hear a lot from him because he’s not in many chapters and the ones hes in are very short . I think this book is better enjoyed by reading with your eyeballs. BUT I will say if you’re someone who enjoys dual narration, I think that you will like this audiobook. It’s quick and easy and fast paced and I think it’s something you can bang out in one day and a female narrator was great.

The end of this book Packed a mean punch and it was go go go and things got super unhinged. I love a good twisty story!!

This isn’t a book that I’m completely obsessed with, but I did have a good time and I think it’s one of those books that you just have to try for yourself

As you know I don’t like to give spoilers away cos everyone enjoys different aspects besides Jade does give you a few little tempting ones herself 😉

Firstly, this book is a quick read unless you start it at midnight though you could stay up lol As others have stated it is a slow burn to start with and you kind of are waiting for it to get to the good part but this is a necessity, as it’s an insight into Flora and what she’s gone through for her to end up at Cedarwood Cabin.

Once there, it all seems to be a bed of roses though Lyka doesn’t appear to like Flora, and taunts her with other women. Dax however has taken on the role of protecting her and ensuring she is cared for…..until a three week lockdown is announced. After a week of them living, enjoying and working together. Flora’s whole world turns upside down. We are led into betrayal, humiliation, punishment, degradation, pain, violence, pleasure, Stockholm syndrome etc. etc. the content warnings go on, ensure you read them on Jade’s site prior, as there maybe certain triggers you don’t like.

I did enjoy reading it, though it wasn’t as dark as I anticipated or I’m just as psycho as all the people in books I read about that type of person 🤣🤣 The story does have a HEA with a little retribution for Flora that I thought was very fitting 🤭

The beginning of this book was very interesting, but the ending could have been better.

I saw someone on tiktok mentioned that this book is very, very dark, so I wanted to know if I could have a stomach it. Unfortunately, I believe I read too many dark books because nothing really horrible happened compared to other types of books I have read.

It did give me a little bit of credence vibes, especially when they all were at the cabin. The tragic accident of her dad made me feel sad. The plot and the writing had the potential to be something better.

Firstly, thank you to Jade for allowing me to be a participant in the ARC read for this book🫶🏻

*PLEASE READ YOUR TRIGGER WARNINGS, THIS IS NOT A FLUFFY ROMANCE*

I want to say that, despite their flaws. I love the Faulkner brothers.

The premise of the book was definitely interesting and a unique take on the covid lockdown situation, I did feel it was well executed on the whole. The plot twist was great and the book certainly got very dark towards the latter part! This is a dark romance so please please read the trigger warnings!

The reason for the markdown for my review is mainly based around two things: firstly the writing style at first was a bit choppy and didn’t flow that great. Once Jade found her rhythm for the book, this did improve and I was definitely enjoying it more by 40%
Secondly, I felt there needed to be more substance around the relationships between the FMC and the brothers. Why did they feel that way towards her? Why was it instant? It made it all feel a little too fake, forced and unbelievable.

On the whole, I’d absolutely say read this book is dark romance and not biker boys are your thing!😏🖤

*edit - I’ve been thinking about this book a lot since finishing it and I think, if a book can remain in your brain way after you’ve read it, then it deserve a better rating. So I’ve upped it to 4.25 stars*

Whooosh, this was a wild ride, but so so so worth it!
I was shook, I cried, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I kinda wish there was more character development for the brothers and understand the reasoning for their behavior a bit better, but ok.
Let's just say, I could not put the book down and finished it in one siting.

Okay wow. I really struggled not to DNF this.
I hate DNFing, so I pushed through.
This is one of the worst books I've ever read.

I really cannot understand all the good reviews. Either, you all have never read a good book before in your entire life or you're all weird masochists who enjoy terrible writing and abuse & torture framed as ... Whatever that's supposed to be.

The writing was terrible. There were endless repetitions that made everything feel unnatural, constructed and bulky, especially the conversations.
*"I'll make some sandwiches before we head out." Dax grabs a loaf of bread and prepares lunch. I watch him work as he prepares some sandwiches.*

Then there's the fact that this author has never heard of "show, don't tell". There is 90% "tell" in this book, and it's not even good storytelling.
Things are just flatly stated:
I can trust her.
I see his *insert emotion* in his eyes.
He feels *insert feeling*.

There is no depth to the characters. None. Things are never explained and make no sense most of the time.
Dax & Lyka are unpredictable, cruel, brutal and cold. There is literally no redeeming quality. None.

I enjoy some dark shit, but this was just straight up violence. The scene in the barn when they chain her up, spank and cane her and then 🍇 her... That broke my heart. They enjoyed breaking her.

Spoiler for the story/ending:

They manipulate her, trick her, lie to her. When she discovers the lies, they drop all masks and treat her with a cruelty and coldness that is absolutely heartbreaking. They 🍇 her and torture her physically and emotionally, openly admitting that they want to break her mind & body. She fights back for as long as she can, but eventually she gives up, because they make it clear to her that there is no hope whatsoever and if she tries to rebell, they'll torture & 🍇 her again. They chain her up for days, drug her and play mindgames on her.
So she gives in and then they 🍇 her without protection and after it turns out that she got pregnant & lost the child they say sorry and offer to free her (if it wasn't clear that they're assholes yet).
But she's already too far gone to be able to choose freedom, so she "voluntarily" stays with them, but hey, it's all good because they feel sorry and she gets to brand them as well ✨💖
WTF.

And don't come at me. I've read some very, very dark romance stuff. 90% of what I read is pitch black dark. But there is a difference between "dark" and straight up bad writing that depicts straightforward 🍇 as some kind of dark CNC. It's okay if you enjoyed this book, but please be honest enough to call things by their name.

Another brilliant book from Author Jade Wilkes, Lyka and Dax are the Faulkner brothers, biker boys who would unalive for the woman they love, Flora sees the guys riding their motorbikes around town before bumping into them in a pub that is run by her dads girlfriend, her dad dies in a car accident, and she goes to the woods where Dax finds her and takes her to the Cabin where things take a turn for the better 😂 there is a lot of twists and turns and emotions run wild, spice is 5*, this will get your panties dripping especially the bdsm, I was hooked from start to finish and you will love it too

I saw this book recommended on a tiktok video and decided to give it a go. I have to say it was a disappointment for me 😩 I'm sorry I tried to like it I really did.....I absolutely love dark romance and have read books much darker than this so none of the dark parts of the book affect my feelings towards this book. The story and writing style just really lacked for me. The beginning of the book was okay, good build up to her first seeing Dax and Lyka.

But I was confused by a lot of the interactions with them, were they intentionally following Flora from that first time they saw her in the car with her dad? Or did they just randomly stumble upon her in the forest trying to k*ll herself, and decide in that moment that they had to have her?

Lyka went from basically hating Flora and quite actively sleeping around, to overnight obsessed. It just felt forced to me. I've read similar storylines where the MMC has tried to push the FMC away because they're scared of feelings etc but I dunno it just didn't work for me here.

Then let's not get started on once she realised they had lied to her and basically kidnapped her all along. It felt like she hated them for about 5 mins and then Stockholm syndrome apparently hit and she's in love with them again 🙄 they tricked her into thinking she was going to be eaten by a bear, stood laughing at her, abused her sexually, and she was just like okay I give in, I'm theirs 🤦‍♀️ just nope from me.

I did finish the book because I hate to DNF and I can see from other reviews lots of people loved this book but for me it just didn't read well 😔

Was honoured to beta this and have an arc, and oh my God.
5☆
Flora, an ex pat from the UK moving to the US meets two biker brothers, stays with them in their cabin in the woods after some horrible happenstance, and it just gets wild from there.

I couldn't put this down. I read it all in one sitting, reread it again after getting the arc, and honestly, the spice, the story, the characters, the plot, the phallus... all of it is just so incredible.

There were at least 3 chapters that had my jaw dropping, and I had to read again just so I could take it in. Dax and Lyka (MMCs) are to die for, Marty and Jonny are the worst kinda villians you just wanna smack but they add so much to the story.

Jade has written this so well, really understands what we want to read and delivered beautifully ♥︎

As a good friend of mine said “it’s like AI wrote a spicy book”. 2 days of my life I can’t get back and TikTok recs are to blame. Good concept for someone after dark romance but the execution is POOR. How anyone could enjoy the cliche, predictable & childish writing is beyond me. Oh and the never ever ever ever ending descriptions made me want to watch paint dry, would probably be less boring. On the plus side this book was short and got me out of a slump👍🏻 1 star for that alone✨This book was so bad that I couldn’t NOT finish it🤣🤣 literally a rip off of Credence but SHIT
