I never thought I’d achieve my dream of playing for the NHL— Not while I’m my mom’s sole caretaker. But the Carolina Reapers offer me a deal I can’t refuse: A spot on their roster and top-rated support for my mom’s battle with Parkinson’s.
Balancing an NHL schedule and my mother’s care fills every minute of my day, But one glance at Scythe’s bartender, and I’m looking for ways to make time. Echo Hayes is my exact opposite: she’s wild—I’m reserved. She’s fearless—I’m careful. She’s a 1 a.m. last call, and I’m a 7 a.m. practice.
On paper, we shouldn’t work. But in reality, our chemistry burns hotter than these Charleston nights. We’ve agreed to no-strings, But every taste leaves me wanting more. And more is where she draws the line.
The past haunts her, and my obligations own my present. But it doesn’t stop me from wanting a future with her. Our worlds are drastically different— And when they collide? The fallout jeopardizes my contract, and puts our hearts on the line.
Now I’m the one begging her to risk it all— Or we’ll lose everything worth fighting for.

Once again, love the Hero, Sawyer this time. Echo was likeable. However the theme here appears to be heroines with major insecurities. That's the negative for me. I'll give this series one more try (Ha! maybe I'm a glutton for punishment or I've been couped up at home for so many weeks now that I'm a little crazed, bored, what day is it?). So here we go again, fingers crossed, the next heroine has her shit together.
Love this spin off series. Sawyer was truly husband-worthy and had deceptively wicked moves! Swoon. I like Echo but sometimes she tried my patience. .. Still a great read! 5 stars
After meeting with some of the Carolina Reapers in the first book of the series, I was glad to see them again in SAWYER. This time, they welcome a young goalie who wants to make big in the NHL but has fucked up his first call. Sawyer is a nice guy, all out to help his sick mother, but also a bad motherfucker. He’s always been the one to help, so it’s a nice change when he meets Echo, who’s going to keep him afloat when nerves go wild.
It’s an instant friendship, with lots of heat. The book starts a bit as a slow burn, but everything is quickly swept away once the characters kiss. Damn that kiss. It’s like they have sex with their mouth. After that, and because neither is ready for a relationship, they settle on being casual. You can guess that feelings won’t stay away for long.
I really enjoyed the struggle of Sawyer when he becomes a NHL player. Samantha Whiskey is good when she writes about his fears and insecurities.
She does well too with the side story that brings the angst in the relationship: Echo’s ex coming back, decided to fuck with her life to get her back. It brings some tension between all the characters.
So yeah, it’s a good hockey romance, and I can’t wait to meet again with the Reapers.
Quickie
Series: Carolina Reapers #2 (but the series is a sequel to Whiskey’s series Seattle Sharks, 9 books)
Samantha Whiskey is on a game-winning streak with Sawyer (Carolina Reapers #2). I was really looking forward to Sawyer McCoy’s story. We first meet Sawyer in the Seattle Sharks series. He was a goalie at the University of Washington. He was the roommate of Faith Gentry (Wheeler, Seattle Sharks #8) and Harper Thompson (Defender, Seattle Sharks #9).
Sawyer is a loveable character. He has taken care of his mother who has Parkenson’s since he was fifteen. He is a really good guy, who hasn’t had things go his way. Now he is finally given the opportunity to have his dream come true and play in the NHL.
Sawyer first met Scythe’s bartender, Echo Hayes, in book one, Axel. This is their story. The two seem like opposites, but they truly work together. Their chemistry is combustible.
I love Samantha Whiskey’s writing style. I have enjoyed every book that I have read by her. They are skillfully-written and thought-provoking. I recommend this book to people who enjoy sports romances. It can be read as a standalone, but I suggest reading the books I mentioned in my review first to appreciate Sawyer’s character. Plus, they’re awesome books, so you should read them anyway. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Yay!! As hoped Sawyer secures a contract with an NHL team.
Sawyer is the second 'Reaper' to have his story and as always Samantha Whiskey never disappoints.
We've met Sawyer in previous novels as the college roommate of Faith and Harper and we have grown to love him and his commitment to looking after his poorly mother.
We also know Echo from 'Axel' the debut novel in this series.
Their story to HEA is so sweet and there is no doubt that Echo was in need of someone that would break down her beliefs in regards to relationships and love. I did grow to love her, despite feeling that, at times, she was incredibly needy!
All in all, a good addition to the series and another appetiser of what's to come.
“The wild in her called to me, broke the restraints I kept not on my body—but my heart.”
2.5 stars.
As much as I enjoy and like this universe, I am getting so beyond tired of the end-of-book pregnancies. Also, Echo kinda annoyed me with all the pushing she did to Sawyer, so that didn't really help either..
J'avoue qu'après avoir rencontré Echo, j'avais hâte de la voir tomber sous le charme de Sawyer ... Et comme d'habitude avec cette série, une romance sexy et légère qui m'a fait rire et crier xD
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I must admit that after meeting Echo I couldn't wait to see her fall in love with Sawyer ... and as usual with this series, a sexy and light romance that made me laugh and scream xD
Gillar den. Vet inte hur jag ska beskriva det men Sawyer påminner mig så mycket om hur Sebastian behandlar mig hela tiden, lugnar all ångest och löser alla mina stora problem till små problem
I'm feeling so content right now. Every time I read Samantha's work I want to skip adulting and just devour her book. So I did exactly that today. I'm not even sorry- it was so totally worth it. This lady has some serious voodoo magic in her books that makes me love every single one of the guys- again, I'm not sorry. They are all totally swoon worthy and give me ALL THE FEELS. Echo, I think she is one of my favourite heroines. Feisty, smart, gorgeous and a little crazy. Her random facts and banter with Sawyer had me grinning like a kid in a candy store and at one point I even spat my coffee everywhere 😂 If you haven't figured it out yet, I freaking LOVED it.
You ever read something and try your best to immerse yourself, yet, you’re still disconnected? That’s how I felt reading this. I’m such a sucker for a hockey romance. I noticed this is a series with companion novels, aka my fav! But, I have yet to fall in love.
I did skip book one. A few weeks ago, I tried to get into it. I only made it 2 chapters, and I gave up. I think after I read book 3, I’ll try book 1. The Seattle Sharks series has a bunch, so I’ll probably read that one too.
This is a really popular author, so I think I just have to gain some more momentum.
I really liked that this one had Sawyer in it and that he was able to fulfill his dream. In the last book he had that one game he was on contract for, which was great for him. But you have to worry, was it better to have that one game or nothing? I'm glad that Sawyer didn't have to really find out, that he was included in tryouts when the team needed a goalie again. He didn't automatically get the job, he had to prove that he was the best person for the job.
In getting the job, Sawyer got to be closer to his college friends, who are all wives of other players on the team. By hanging out with the ladies he his introduced to Echo, the bartender at their favorite bar. Sawyer and Echo really hit it off, you can see the chemistry and hope they go for it. While things start out slow for them it doesn't take long before they are all in, even if one of them doesn't really want to be. Despite their odd schedules they make things work and it's only when things become a bit too real and past hurts come into play that finds them having issues. Neither of them is the best as talking things out and both needed pushes from friends, but they do finally get things worked out and allow themselves to live their lives happy, something they both deserve.
I loved Echo in the previous book, with her no-nonsense attitude and Sawyer was the sweet guy who always puts everyone before himself. When they came together there was heat, passion and sparks! In this book Echo did get frustrating at times, her big thing that everyone with leave, she needed someone to give her a swift kick! I did love how she managed to calm down Sawyer when he was getting to much in his head and carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. In the end I did love that Sawyer was able to break down Echo's beliefs, while Echo was able to get Sawyer to focus on himself for a bit. Their HEA worked out great for them!
Sawyer by Samantha Whisky is a hockey sports romance that follows the story of Sawyer and Echo. This is the second book in the Carolina Reapers series, which is a spin-off to the Seattle Sharks series.
Sawyer and Echo have both seen their fair share of tragedy, loss and heartache, which is why they decided to keep things simple - friends with benefits, not feelings. Unfortunately that little plan doesn’t go the way either thought when their feelings most definitely become involved.
This story ticks the sports romance box and adds in opposites attract.
I really liked it! I think I liked the characters more than the first book. Not always a huge fan of baby at the end but I think this fit and it worked.
I love Sawyer and Echo. Actually all the main reapers. I love the little Easter eggs about the guys the future books will be about. It’s like I’m already in love with them.
I love these hockey players. The closeness of the team members, the family feel of it. The woman who are always what these guys need. I adored Sawyer and Echo
I feel like I’ve been waiting for Sawyer’s story for so long and I was not disappointed!
I feel like I’ve been waiting for Sawyer’s story for so long and I was not disappointed!
Sawyer grabbed a piece of my heart when we first met him in the Shark’s series and I was so excited to find out he was going to make the Reapers team and get his steamy story. I have to say I was surprised for it to be with Echo, but I should have never doubted Ms. Whiskey because dang was their chemistry hot and to quote Sawyer they really were broken puzzle pieces who fit together perfectly.
I’m a sucker for a strong sassy leading lady and Echo was fantastic. I really loved hearing about her past and seeing what made this woman become a tough survivor. She showed so much compassion and tenderness for Sawyer and he needed that to finally come from someone.
Absolutely love the family we are getting with this Reaper’s team, almost as much as the Shark’s, and so excited to see who’s story is next!
The only thing keeping it from being a 5 star for me was a few to fair amount of grammatical issues (repeated words in sentences, here for her). There weren’t enough to ruin it just enough to get me out of the flow of the story and mess with it a little.
Echo thinks that everyone leaves, Sawyer has always been the one to stay, especially staying close to home when his mom has been sick. Sawyer finally gets the chance to start for an NHL team and moves himself and his mom from Seattle to Charleston to play for the Reapers. Echo runs the Reaper fan bar Scythe and can't resist the charm of the Reapers newest goalie. Will Echo finally realize that Sawyer won't run away? Can Sawyer finally choose himself instead of worrying about everyone else?
I really enjoy Sawyer and Echo's story. My biggest pet peeve with this book is that he is a goalie and the guy on the cover does not have goalie equipment.
Echo was annoying AF and her Reasons for not being with Sawyer were dumb. I also didn’t really like how the author was super careful not to make Echo an addict…like, she just tried cocaine a few times? But it was also treated like she was someone in recovery bc her past drug use almost ruined her life. It was strange and contradictory. Like, I don’t think someone should be so hard on herself for trying coke a few times. Also…people don’t dump cocaine into their coffee. They just don’t.
I found my new addicting series!! If all the books were out I would binge the whole series in a day. I highly recommend and I cannot wait for the next one!!!!
