Palace of the Almighty

Rate this book
On the southern plains of the Holdings lies the abandoned Palace of the Almighty – the old home of the Second Ascendant. Sealed up and silent, it has been ignored for years. Driven by a desire to discover the fate of his sister, Bailey disregards his orders and breaks into the palace.

When the gods and creatures held within begin to escape their confines, only one warrior can stop them – Corthie Holdfast. Enticed to lend his service to the crown, Corthie reluctantly places his duty before his ever-growing family, and picks up the Clawhammer once again.

Allied to the Empire, Queen Blackrose’s realm is under threat from rogue Wystian dragons and agents from the fanatical Unk Tannic. When Blackrose calls for aid to defend her borders, the Empress is only too happy to oblige, but little does she know how deeply entangled the Empire will become in the affairs of Dragon Eyre, a world both beautiful and deadly…

About Me

I love deserts, which is too bad as I live in Scotland, but the mountains, glens and lochs more than make up for it. My other love is Greek Tragedy, especially Euripides, and I also read history, science, fantasy, and pretty much anything about the Beatles…

Yet again a really great read continuing an amazing and very intense saga that one must keep following along and being a real part of the life depicted. Fabulous reading...

I'll start with a brief synopsis. Palace of the Almighty begins where Creator of Worlds left off. Cael is proving himself in the Marines and Kyra, while attending university, is heavily involved in politics. Corthie and Karalyn join forces against a new adversary. And Lahnos, well, has he finally had enough? New monsters and creatures invade. And, at some point, each of the main characters are faced with a sense of failure.

I have come to love every one of these characters and am fully invested in what happens to them. That said, there were times that I wanted to smack each and every one of their butts. Silly me, I worry that the author will finally have had enough of their antics and will write them out of the story. (haha) Cael's hubris is bound to lead to something bad. Kyra's single mindedness isn't far behind. And at one point, Kelsey calls out Karalyn's intransigence and I wholeheartedly agree. (Come on K, think outside the box!)

I'm a big fan of this author's books - huge fan. I've read (and re-read) every book he has publicly released to date and I have loved each and every one of them. And, while I can easily say that I really loved this story as well, it almost did me in.

I read an advance copy of this book and somewhere in the middle of the story, the real world stuck its unpredictable head in and interfered with my reading - slowed it down immensely. Meanwhile, other ARC readers began commenting - well, let's just say their comments made me extremely apprehensive. If you've read the series up to this point then the title of the book itself is enough to make one worried. Palace of the Almighty had me on the edge of my seat and had my heart racing so fast that I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride. Whew! What a ride! Very, very well done, indeed!

This installment had more of my personal favorite characters and I love how the allied worlds are all represented. The Palace of the Almighty is so sealed up that Karalyn is unable to relocate it off of the Star Continent. Bailey has selfishly decided that he will break into the Palace of the Almighty to find Theodora's body despite the cost to the people of the allied worlds. The breach unleashes greenhides on steroids, undead dragons and several gods that were prisoners to Edmond. We see Holdfasts in need of rescuing, some refusing to engage, some standing their ground, some fighting in a way that would make Daphne proud and others weighing the need for peace above all else. They are divided and all the main characters are sprinkled in with the Holdfast divisions. The gods begin to sow dissent and destruction in order to fulfill their own agenda. Who will survive? Who will fight? Who will stand by and do nothing? This book covers all of it and the ending is the biggest cliffhanger yet and I am in love with it! Highly recommended

Palace of the Almighty: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Dominion Book 8), my twenty-ninth read from prolific author Christopher Mitchell, 488-pages of epic fantasy. It’s been over 4 months since reading Creator of Worlds (The Magelands Dominion Book 7), and I hadn’t realized how much I’d missed the Holdfasts and their world. With more than 45 books published over 4 inter-conncted series it's no wonder that when I want to read epic fantasy I first look for Christopher Mitchell. I look forward to reading more from this him, in fact Sapphire Throne: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Dominion Book 9) is already on my TBR list and it won't be published until March of next year. “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Oh my goodness, what a thrill ride that was! What a great read and so good when you've watched the characters evolve. I'm very impressed with this story line which centres around Cael growing up and becoming assertive in himself and who he wants to be. Kyra who runs her own path in life which is so different to her family. who have now grown up
They both play pivotal roles in this storytelling.
Lanos who's meaning in life is changing and grounding him..The appearances of Corthie and Karalyn to fight the new Gods is gripping and breathholding to the end of the book A wonderful read by Christopher Mitchell.

brilliant as usual

Christopher Mitchell never disappoints. My only disappointment is that I must wait for the conclusion of this series and that there is a conclusion. I loved every single book in this series from start to finish. Once I read the next one, I intend on reading the whole series again from start to finish. I miss Daphne and Killop (the original) and Keira. So good. Every book that I’ve read, I couldn’t put down and I can’t wait to start it again. It’s like watching the Harry Potters movies from start to finish once a year. Always great. Thank you Mr. Mitchell for reminding me of how much I love to read!

Excellent latest book in the Magelands series sees the Holdfasts fight for control of the Empire against a new batch of gods, Cael and Kyra come into their own in this book, but both on opposite sides if the fence so to speak. Fast paced action throughout as you'd expect from the master of Epic fantasy and sets it up nicely for the next one.

Palace of the Almighty

As usual loved this book! I am so frustrated by Kyra! Her family is being preyed upon and she's doing nothing but causing them problems. I wonder if she would even care that the new Gods tried to kill her Uncle and all his children!
Can't wait for the next book!

Brillant

As always. I begrudge starting any of your (his) books as I know I won't be able to put it down and every minute of reading brings me closer and closer to the end. I hate it and love it at the same time! Now I have the interminable wait until the next instalment. Absolute bloody torture, and I bet you're (he's) enjoying that too.

Wow

It’s been so long since I was in the worlds of the Holdfast I forgot how amazing it was. What a welcome back. Cael next to Corthie is my favorite Holdfast. I’m trouble and disappointed in his sister. But I can’t wait for the next book I just hope it doesn’t take as long to get it.
