This is the second part of the trilogy and it did feel like we were venturing into Porn Without Plot territory.
Max and Olivia continue to develop their relationship as he uses his considerable wealth and resources to woo her. Usually in these FSoG style books, the hero is cold, stoic, controlling, domineering but Max is really quite different – he’s actually rather affable and charming and there’s a lot to like about him.
The story appears to lack direction as I’m reading it – I’m enjoying the hot sex scenes (who wouldn’t) but I wonder what point the author is trying to make. Is it just straight forward boy meets girl lives happily ever after style romance or is there something much more dramatic to come in the final novella?
FADE INTO ME is the second novella (September 2012 release) in Kate Dawes three-part novella series, and this storyline is short. The storyline starts up at exactly the same point where Fade Into You ended. Like many of the other serial type novellas written in the same style, this series is basically a novella broken down into 3 very short novellas. I guess the serial release is a bigger attraction to readers but disappointing when each successive novella is shorter than the previous.
FADE INTO ME follows Olivia and Max as he takes her for a weekend getaway to Napa Valley where Max, at Olivia’s insistence, tells her about his life and family. But when Olivia asked about his previous loves, Max was a little too evasive and Olivia began to wonder if she had overstepped her bounds or if Max was hiding a dirty little secret.
Olivia’s success with the talent agency was earning her high praise from the boss. With a new found enthusiasm and an office to call her own, Olivia was hoping to make inroads into the business. But after a weekend to New York with Max, Olivia’s boss Kevin would point out that perhaps her relationship with Max may hurt both of their careers. When Olivia started to protest, Kevin showed her some pictures and Olivia’s heart sank. Max hadn’t been honest and he had broken her heart.
FADE INTO ME advances the storyline especially as it pertains to some of the background information about Olivia and Max. Like most erotica storylines there is plenty of steamy sex in varying positions and places. Our heroine is no virgin and she knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to try something new. This storyline is not about BDSM, and there are no issues of control or power plays between the couple, which is a refreshing relief at this point.
FADE INTO ME is the sexy-sweet follow up to FADE INTO YOU. This second installment solidified my love for the hero, Max. He is strong and supportive, loving and kind. On to the next installment...
✳✳ Copy provided by the author/publisher for an honest review.
Characters are very 2D and yes, the author has tried to create a bit of background in this book but... it did need to come earlier. However the attempt was made so i provided the second star.
Im a little bored now of the 'my parents dont like my career choice' characters & unfortunatly we have two in this book, great!
Anyway, i finished it as it wasnt all bad, quick read, but didnt hit the right 'steamy' buttons for me... even skimmed through the majority of the 'sexy' scenes.
The basic storyline was intriguing, I was all in after book1 but then the book became predictable the struggles that came up were resolved very quickly and the relationship was easy going that it took all the banter and sexual chemistry down a notch. I just felt it was not very intense. The lusty scenes were goo and written well but with out the sexual chemistry building it up it was missing something.
Well the first 50% of this book was the last 50% of Part One, Fade Into You. Now I'm going to read Part 3, Fade Into Always then decide if I purchase Harder we fade. It's confusing. I just want an ending.
Hmmm...I still can’t get into this series; I don't know why I continue reading it. Maybe it’s because each installment is only 40-something pages, maybe because I'm hoping for a little more depth, or maybe it’s just because I want to get in as many books read as possible before the end of this year. I choose D, all the above.
Again the sex is good and it was really good until his tongue parted her and slipped into her wet hole...I whipped myself so fast out of hot and bothered that I nearly fell out of my chair.
But let's not focus on that; let's instead turn our attention to the quirks of this little gem. It starts where the last book left off...like the very next day. No sufficient time has passed but our ignorant naive little protagonist is still falling falling falling in love with a man who is more of a fuck buddy than love interest. Their "love" is contingent upon how hard they fuck the night before and what new positions he gets her into.
None of the characters have any depth, I’m still unsure how the roommate plays into this, and I know she is a hooker of some sort, but why write her in that way? Why even have a roommate? What is the purpose of her character? I don’t get it.
Then there’s Max’s childhood story. It went from his parents being overprotective, religious nuts who didn’t want their son to leave the little Podunk town and him being engrossed in movies and theater to his parents hiding his acceptance letter to UCLA, to confronting his dad about hitting his mother..Wait. What? I was thrown, I had to go back and reread to confirm that that tidbit came out of left field, there was ZERO indication of abuse going on until he confronts his father one day out of the blue? Then he was able to just waltz into his father’s Mom and Pop shop and easily obtain a check from his father for $5,000? And his big bad wife beating dad, just said “Here you go champ, just don’t tell your mother, the one I’m beating, about Becky Sue and Mable cause I’m just too damn ashamed…now go on ‘git’”
Oh and let’s not forget the laugh out loud moments when she kept making references to how well she knows him and how she was just so damn surprised that he was able to climb over that damn nearimpenetrable wall that she had erected…Gosh. Even I don’t know how he did it…Please
Then the whole ridiculous 2 second breakup (could it even be called a break up seeing as they weren’t technically together? Hmmmm), was that supposed to be a “twist” at the end there? Cause that was downright laughable! It was the comedic relief of the whole book! No really, because all he needed to do was send her a playwright and all is forgiven! Just stupid and ridiculous.
I am going to try really hard to not spoil all three books, however, both of the times I have read the Fade Series I have plowed through all 3 books in one night. Why? Well, because I cannot put them down.
I was very quick to fall in love with Olivia and even faster to fall in love with Max. But then again, I am sucker for the hot rich and sexy man that everyone wants. One of the reasons that drew me into these books was not just the exciting sex scenes, but the banter between Max and Olivia. There is something special about a relationship that can pick and play with each other in the ways that Max and Olivia did throughout all three books. A relationship like this shows comfort and a growing relationship.
So many of these book with heroines with self esteem issues get old after a while. Olivia was no different, only that she was concerned with a broken heart than with whether or not she deserved to be with Max. She never really questioned his motivations and whether or not she deserved him. She just accepted what he had to offer her. That to me made these books special and realistic. The story between Max and Olivia is real, its something that happens everyday. Something that gives us hopeless romantics something to strive for and hope that true love is real and obtainable.
Because I am a hopeless romantic I couldn't put down the books and was turned on by hot and steamy sex scenes, I give Fade Into You, Fade Into Me, and Fade Into Always Five (5) Fabulous stars!
While reading the 1st from the Fade Series, I find it strange that I'm having a difficult time making contact with the characters, Olivia and Max - true the story is different from all the romance / erotic novels I've read and it's Hollywood based story which interests me.. But. Still.. And when I started reading this there comes the MAGIC! I became connected ATLAST with Max and Olivia and their relationship.. The book (rather ebook in my case) became a page turner for me and I'm looking forward on what will happen next... Gaaaaaaah! :)) ESPECIALLY the last few pages of this book! Yeah it's short but I came to like..rather LOVE it! :) Will start the 3rd and last book in a bit now and I am D Y I N G to know how Olivia and Max's story will turn out in the end. :) <3 Hopefully it'll be a happy ending! **fingers crossed**
And BTW this is such a hot book! Gave me book orgasms! Meh. :D
Meh...still not feeling it. More original work; dialogue is still on the uninteresting side. This isn't a very objective statement but I don't really like either one of these characters. There's the whole thing with Krystal that just gets left & I'm struggling to understand why it was brought up in the first place since it seems to be going exactly no where. The "dramatic" conclusion to this one just feels forced & the way she handles it is juvenile. In a nutshell, I can't for the life of me figure out if he actually likes her or not because I sure can't tell by his actions; more often than not he treats her like a fuck buddy but then will do or say something that'll make be go 'huh'??? At any rate, I'm already 2/3rds of the way through this thing so might as well read the conclusion. And just as a snarky footnote-anyone who thinks Elizabethtown is the height of romantic movies, needs to re-evaluate some things.
A continuation to the first in the series... obviously... but it could have literally been the next chapter rather than another title. It's short like first one and again I give it 3.5 stars. The same dislikes follow into this book. The relationship not only seems rushed but put into overdrive. The characters seem to know one another's life stories in a matter of weeks. Another dislike that I had was that it skipped over things/details that casually get brought up later. Don't get me wrong, the sex scenes were once again HOT, but the wam bam rush of the story stills continues to throw me off. It's almost too unrealistic. The end of this book does seem to throw in a "what happens next??!" factor which makes you want to read the final book.
I've really mixed feelings on this trilogy. On the one hand I couldn't put them down, on the other they are a bit bland! I don't think that I've ever experienced that and yet wanted to continue?
I think that I was chasing a HEA and coping with the annoying bits.
I'm going to paste this in as the third book review too as really it's just a book split into chapters to make more money out of us.
Max and olivia take his plane to NAPA to visit wine country. While there Max reveals that he might not stay in the business much longer. They have a great time.
Since their napa trip went so well they decide on a trip to New York the next weekend. On the plane they experience mutual masturbation. In New York they attend a red carpet movie premiere.
Upon returning they are apart for the week but plan on being together over the weekend. At work Olivia's boss shows her a picture of her and Max at the premiere in New York and then shows her a pic of him with a soap opera actress pregnant 4 months with his baby. Max sends Olivia a script he wrote when he was 22 and asks her to read it. It is about his dream girl. She calls him, he answers "hello dream girl".
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Fade Into Me continues the story of Max and Olivia. We've developed a new problem with their relationship.
Max continues to use his incredible wealth to woo Olivia and show her new and exciting things.
I have a sort of love/hate relationship with this series. I love Max and Olivia. There's a bit of drama, but not too much. They don't hold grudges for long. They're a pretty normal couple.
What do I hate? I really like angst and drama in my stories. There's not as much angst and drama as I usually like. But then I love that they're normal (for a rich guy and his girl!)
I'm looking forward to seeing where the third one takes us!
It took me one school day, with the limited amount of time I have to read, passing period, during boring parts of class, lunch if I felt like it. A KIDDY BOOK.
2 STARS because there's absolutely NO plot to this book! It's all fluff (and under-developed rushed fluff) that's horrible! ... Wow. How did this even get published? Only reason this isn't a 1 is because I wish I had a guy like Max...ugly name for a hot dreamy sexy guy. And it was a readable book. Basically, it was a girl in Hollywood and then meets a guy. Hates him, loves him. and then he (gasp!) loves her too! AWAH... no. not really. a 13 year old's diary is better than the action ad drama in here, no doubt
One thing I have to say with this second installment in this trilogy WAW!!!!! Kate Dawes does not let up anything with the love story and the extreme chemistry between Max and Olvia. Its hotter than ever but when you think that everything can be and will be going good BAM!!. There is a hard truth that can break them apart. I'll tell you I did not want this story to end because of the level of intensity between the characters and the way you get so enthrall in the story is like being there watching everything and feeling everything. One more thing I want Max for myself because boy does this man know how to give a woman pleasure.
Unfortunately I'm finding that things are going down hill. I didn't really care for this book. I found the dialogue cheesy most of the time. And again there is just no plot or character development. She's already in love with Max but their relationship has hardly developed on page. And then the way she reacted to the whole incident was a bit extreme in my opinion. I can't even remember her name....what does that tell you?!?! The only thing this series has going for it so far is the sex--and even that was a bit cheesy and uncomfortable in this book.
It has potential... I wanted to like this!! I am totally in love with new adult and love romances. But why did he like her? What did she offer to the relationship? He helped her the whole time and what did she do? Was she really funny? Was she kind? Was she really in that much trouble to need him to watch over her? I am sad to say, these books were just okay. Maybe I just needed more. They were def short as I read them all in a couple hours. Maybe they just needed more detail, more pain in book 3, and more character development. I want to like them. I really do...
The second installment of the Fade series. And while I really liked it (Olivia and Max have mad chemistry), I found myself annoyed at the end. I'm sure it'll be resolved in the next one, and I suppose I can sort of understand her reaction and resulting actions considering her lack of trust before she met Max, but I really wish she'd given him an opportunity to explain. Then again, we wouldn't have gotten that last line, would we? And that was an awesome last line. So... on to the final installment!
'Fade into Me' is a great love story but it is not a great tale or an epic love, like the kind I like to read about - Like the kind I thought it would be.
It was short and rather drab, but there is a part of me that continually hopes for something more so I can continue to read with ease.
The characters are fairly likeable and the 'Villains' are harmless - If you're looking for an easy read then this is the book for you.
I will read the last book of the series and pray for some excitement!
Novella #2. I liked just as much and again, a quick read. It picks up at the exact point Fade Into You picks up. It progresses about the same as book 1 and still screams Fifty Shades, but it kept me into the book. I like Olivia and Max as characters. Also, Krystal... just wow. I kind of figured that's what was up, but still. And I didn't think Dawes would go the route she did... I figured scorned lover or something, not with what she ended with. I liked it! On to book #3
Second story of a three book novella series. This one was a bit better than the first one although the third party story telling kind of gets annoying. Max and Olivia story continues and there is some development of their characters, but it feels like you never really get to even get the point of what the other characters (like Krystal)relevance to the story is all about. Seems like they were just put there to fill the gaps.
I have to say that I like this part better than the first one - more character development and I cared more about the two MC. But I'm still not sure why these were broken up. Certainly not something that could be read as a standalone.
My recommendation is that you read this as one book (as it is being packaged now) rather than in three separate installments. Still a fast read and I think it makes more sense.
I liked it, but all these romance, sexy books are starting to sound the same. This one was nice because they knew they liked each other and didn't fight it really to be together. It was divided into three books, which really, should have been one, maybe two.
