There she crosses paths with champion show jumper Cameron Sinclair, whose horse Artemis refuses to perform. As she helps Cameron find the cause, an undeniable spark ignites between them. But can their attraction survive across different worlds and busy careers when Lila’s brief time in Kirkby ends?
As she races to write articles that could make or break her future, and Cameron faces the loss of the only life he’s ever known, they must decide if their Highland love can last beyond the summer’s end.

This is a short story set in the Scottish lands of Kirkby. If you’re looking for a quick read for your commute or a beach read, consider "One Summer Changes All." The story follows two people, recently out of a relationship, who visit family and friends in the Highlands. As they navigate struggles in their careers and uncertainty about the future, they end up meeting in a small countryside town through mutual connections. From their first meeting, they couldn't forget each other, but the thought of returning to their lives in different cities made them doubt their next move. It’s a summer romance, but from an adult perspective. Although it’s a brief story, it feels complete. Crafting a shorter novel with a proper beginning and end is often more challenging than writing a longer one, where there’s more time to develop characters and their stories.
This is the first story, a quick read, that starts this series. One that can be read whenever, but I suggest it is enjoyed before Kendrick and Shona's story (book 3), as this pair is mentioned in that storyline and it's best if you've already understood their story beforehand.
I enjoyed the situation that brought Lilah and Cameron together. All the characters in this world are easy to connect with and I happily lost myself in Kirkby again.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author.
Sweet start: This was a sweet and enjoyable novella that marks the beginning of the new Highland Happiness series. It isn't necessary to read this before starting the series, however it does introduce a number of the small Scottish town residents and is a cute story in its own right. Cameron and Lila were good together and although their romance was a simple one, I nevertheless enjoyed seeing them find their way to HEA. However the ending was very abrupt and not fully resolved. It could have benefited from a proper epilogue and not just the statement of facts in the author's note. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
Another well written story of Kirkby and the people who lived there. Lila is visiting her family while in Kirkby to write a article about the old fashions that people wore awhile ago. Cameron is also there with his horse that is refusing to jump the obstacles that follows the tours. He has his horse at a farm that will try to help find a way to make her better so they can rejoin the circuit. Both run into each other, having just left a bad breakup and not wanting another. The issues all these characters deal with and are able to find their happily ever after. Some old friends from earlier stories are back. A good book to curl up with and enjoy. Would recommend to others.
I receive this book and leave this unbiased, honest review.
Can we please get an encore to Cameron and Lila's story? Please? I loved this couple so much with their seemingly unattainable dreams and incompatible circumstances, and devoured their story from start to finish. I can't wait to read more about Kirkby and its characterful, quirky inhabitants.
One Summer Changes All the Highland Happiness Prequel by Charlotte McGregor is a charming short story about the Scottish Highlands, romance and fun. I really enjoyed reading about these characters and the Scottish Highlands.
Neither journalists nor show jumpers are my cup of tea, still being a big fan of Charlotte I decided to give Lila and Cameron´s story a chance and I wasn´t disappointed.
It was a cute story of a young journalist and a famous horse trainer and jumper meet. Its well written with them not sure of each other. But love concurs all.
