Enjoyed plot with the developed two main characters. Victor really developed first book, Eli really developed second book. Liked the concept of the plot and the people they meet on the way and the supernatural concept of EO and the rivalry between the two characters.

সিরিজ রিভিউঃ ভিলেনস
সুপারহিরো, ফ্যান্টাসি আর সাথে যদি থাকে অ্যান্টি-হিরো জাতীয় উপাদান, তাইলে ভি ই শোয়াবের “ভিলেনস” সিরিজ পড়তে আর দেরি কেন। বুকটিউবে এই সিরিজের প্রশংসা, আর গুডরিডসে হাই রেটিং দেখে পড়ার লোভ আর সামলাতে পারলাম না। তাছাড়া আরবান ফ্যান্টাসি নিয়ে আমার আগ্রহ বরাবরই ছিল।
প্লটঃ
ভিক্টর আর এলি দুজনেই কলেজ রুমমেট, অসাধারণ মেধাবী, সাইন্সের ছাত্র। আর দুজনেরই রয়েছে পড়াগুনার বাহিরে অন্যরকম সাইন্সের প্রতি আগ্রহ। এরই মধ্যে তারা এক সাইন্স এক্সপেরিমেন্টের আয়োজন করে নিজেদের রুমে, এই থিওরি পরীক্ষা করার জন্য যে প্রায় মৃত্যুর কাছাকাছি যাবার অভিজ্ঞতা মানুষকে সুপারপাওয়ার দিতে পারে। এরই মধ্যে দুই বন্ধুর মাঝখানে আসে অ্যাঞ্জি, যাকে দুজনেই পেতে চায়। একদিন তাদের সাইন্স এক্সপেরিমেন্টে হয় এক ভয়াবহ গণ্ডগোল, অ্যাঞ্জির মৃত্যু, আর ভিক্টর যায় জেলে। ১০ বছর পরে ভিক্টর জেল থেকে ছাড়া পেয়ে খুঁজে বেড়ায় এলিকে, প্রতিশোধের নেশায়, আর এলি চায় পৃথিবীর সকল সুপারপাওয়ারধারী মানুষদের হত্যা করতে।

শোয়াবের বইয়ের প্রধান আকর্ষণ হল তার ঝরঝরে, মেদহীন গদ্য, আর জটিল চরিত্র। ভিক্টরকে আমরা কখনই পুরোপুরি বুঝতে পারি না, বুঝতে পারি না সে ভাল না খারাপ। তার প্রতিশোধের নেশার পেছনে যে কারন তা ফেলে দেয়া যায় না। সময়ে সময়ে তার জীবনের নষ্ট হয়ে যাওয়া বছরগুলির জন্য আমাদের দুঃখ হয়, কিন্তু প্রতিশোধ নেবার জন্য সে যা করে তা সবসময় মেনে নেয়া যায় না। এলিকে প্রথমে ভালই লাগে কিন্তু পরবর্তীতে দেখি তার ভিন্ন রুপ। সিরিজের প্রথম বই “ভিসাস” শুরু হয় এক কবরস্থানে কবর খুঁড়তে থাকা ভিক্টর, আর জান হাতে পালিয়ে বেড়ানো এক ছোট মেয়ে সিডনিকে দিয়ে। আমরা ভাবি কে এই ভিক্টর, কেন সে চায় প্রতিশোধ, আর কেনই বা সিডনি পালিয়ে বেড়াচ্ছে। রহস্য ঘনীভূত হতে থাকে, আর সাথে আমরা ফ্লাসব্যাকে পরিচিত হই আসল ভিক্টর আর এলির সাথে। ভিক্টরের সাথে হওয়া অন্যায়ের জন্য আমাদের কস্ট হয়, একই সাথে আমরা সমবেদনা বোধ করি এলির সাথে তার প্রেমিকার মৃত্যুর জন্য। কিন্তু বর্তমানে যখন আবার তাদের দেখি, তখন আর কাউকেই সাদাকালো চোখে বিচার করা যায় না। বই শেষ হয় ক্লিফহ্যাংগার দিয়ে, আর পরবর্তী বইয়ের জন্য আমাদের অপেক্ষা করতে হয় ৫ বছর। সিরিজের দ্বিতীয় ও শেষ বই “ভেঞ্জফুল” শুরু হয় আগের বইয়ের ৫ বছর পরে। এলি এখন জেলে, আর ভিক্টর খুঁজে বেড়ায় তার সুপারপাওয়ার থেকে মুক্তি পাবার উপায়। এলি চায় ভিক্টরের উপরে প্রতিশোধ নেবার, আর আমরা আটকে পড়ি এক ভয়ানক প্রতিশোধের চক্রে। এদিকে আরও নতুন কিছু মানুষ সুপারপাওয়ার লাভ করে সংঘবদ্ধ হচ্ছে নিজেদের ক্ষমতা বাড়ানোর জন্য। এই বইয়ে আমরা পরিচিত হই নতুন কিছু চরিত্রের সাথে, যার মধ্যে মারসেলাকে আমার খুব ভাল লেগেছে। যদিও তার আছে এক কষ্টকর অতীত, কিন্তু সে এলি বা ভিক্টরের মতো অ্যান্টি-হিরো নয়, সে পুরোপুরি এক ভিলেন। ছোট্ট সিডনিকে ইচ্ছা করে আদর করি খুব, আর ভিক্টর আর সিডনির মধ্যে সম্পর্ক শুধু হিরো আর তার সাইডকিকের নয়, বরং অন্য রকম বাবা-মেয়ের মত সম্পর্ক। দুইটি বই টানটান, এক নিঃশ্বাসে পড়ে ফেলার মত, আর শোয়াবের ঝরঝরে গদ্যর জন্য একটুও বোরিং লাগে নি।

the villains duology helped me overcome a reading slump that had lasted for about three years. lol. before vengeful, i have re-read vicious, and it's worth noting that vengeful wasn’t as perfect as vigious. still i have read both of them with an intense enthusiasm. the story was thrilling, the character analysis was impressive, and the pacing was exceptionally well-crafted. the narrative seamlessly weaved back and forth in time, frequently shifting perspectives. as the past intertwined with the present, the tension steadily mounted until all the pieces finally fell into place.
vicious is split between the present and ten years ago. the present tells of victor, an escaped convict, who is determined to find his old friend turned enemy and deal out the revenge that is burning inside him. flash back to ten years ago and victor is a bright, young university student who is practically inseparable from his best friend - eli. I adored the complex friendship between the two men that hovered somewhere between admiration and bitter jealousy and how this developed as they grew and became more obsessed with power and their own view of right and wrong. vicious is a wild and addictive story with no throwaway characters. everyone in the book has their own problems to face, especially when it comes to some of the moral struggles that go with having godlike powers.
in vengeful, the world of extraordinaries expanded, becoming even more intriguing and absurd. with new characters causing chaos and the inevitable showdown between eli and victor, this book became irresistibly captivating. eli's backstory evoked both love and hate, while sydney's character development added depth to the narrative. the introduction of morally ambiguous characters further enriched the story, and victor and eli became increasingly despicable and endearing with each turn of the page. mitch, doll, and sydney consistently tugged at my heartstrings. and let's not even start on marcella. 🫨🫨

Lightning fast, expertly sequenced, sinister, and so freaking fun to read. The Darker Shade of Magic is probably my favorite series so I am thrilled to add this series to the top along side it. In less skilled hands the premise could be unbelievable, the dance between perspectives and timelines, confusing. But in the brilliant hands of Schwab: perfection. There are no good guys, no truly wicked either - but unique and honest intentions playing out in a thoroughly enjoyable-to-read-about world. I loved it! I wish this were a movie!

this book was also incredible and did a good job of being a meaningful contribution to the story after it had closed. the new characters were very interesting, marcella and june in particular. i mean marcella was just the definition of gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss. like yes she murdered people but she was iconic. and june, i found how her ability affected her and her personality very interesting. overall another 10/10 book.

The first book is absolutely outstanding. Fast paced, high tension, exciting plot and a found family trope. The second book is good, up until the end. The ending was incredibly disappointing, and felt rushed (the author was originally intending for this to be a trilogy). Overall a really good duology, but the ending is something that I will chose to ignore.

I absolutely loved these two books. What a story. I sped through them and two years later I still think about them..In fact, I had given them away in a box full of books I had read to a friend who doesn't have any way to get books and I just purchased again because they were so good. A fantastic dual story about the good and evil people are capable of.

i really loved book 1 and it was a five star read for me. book 2 had a tough time following after and trying to capture the same magic but it did alright and it was a 3.5 star read. overall i rate the series 4 starts. the plot and characters were both intriguing and gripping.
