A Date With Teeth

Rate this book
A gothic tragedy with fantasy elements set in 1920's Paris.

"A must read for fans of classic gothic literature like Oscar Wilde" - ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Lucien is the darkly enigmatic owner of DuPassé, an antiques shop with a bad reputation. He is handsome, impeccably dressed, and charming. But is there something else, behind his peculiar brown eyes, and his intriguing smile?

Golden haired Gabriel is young and naive, but beautifully warm and inviting. One day, he visits DuPassé, and a chance encounter with Lucien intrigues him. Something about Gabriel intrigues Lucien too, and he offers him a job.

Will Gabriel accept? And how will his protective grandmother, La Meme, feel about this, given DuPassé's reputation? People disapear from there after all, or so she says. Does La Meme know more about DuPassé than she lets on?

Elsewhere in Paris, children are disappearing, and no one knows why. The people cry for L'enfants de Paris, but their cries, fall on deaf ears.

Will Marceau, their handsome prime minister, save them? Or does he have other things on his mind? Like his secretary, Carmen. Or perhaps, the mysterious Marquis and Madame Dagger, who darken his door from time to time.

There are some who think the children will never be found, like Garlon, and his friends in L'ancre, a choppy bar for villains and rogues. Does he know something the others don't?

One thing is for certain. Not everything is at it seems.

“A Date with Teeth” by Kirk Thomas is an exhilarating and gripping novel that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed this thrilling ride into a world where danger lurks in unexpected places, and supernatural elements add a thrilling twist to the narrative.

Thomas’s storytelling prowess shines through in his ability to create vivid and multi-dimensional characters. The protagonist’s journey, fraught with peril and unexpected alliances, kept me guessing and invested in the outcome. The blend of mystery, suspense, and a touch of the supernatural created a unique atmosphere that was both chilling and captivating.

What I found particularly engaging was Thomas’s knack for crafting tense and heart-pounding scenes. From the first page, the story grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go, delivering twists and turns that kept me eagerly turning pages late into the night.

Overall, “A Date with Teeth” is a fantastic read for anyone who enjoys a thrilling mix of suspense, mystery, and supernatural intrigue. Kirk Thomas has crafted a novel that is as exhilarating as it is immersive, making it a must-read for fans of the genre.

This has been my first gifted book and I was nervous to begin with. I not read many bad books and I’ve only ever given a one star. What if it’s terrible? What do I say to the author? I know books are subjective, much like music or films, but still…

If anyone knows me, they’ll know I’m a sucker for vampires 🧛 whether it was Dad letting me watch Salem’s Lot when I was 7 (followed by “don’t tell your mother”) or the bloodbath of 30 Days of Night, I will always choose vampires.

When I say this is one of the best vampire books I’ve read in a long time, I’m not exaggerating! Interview with The Vampire meets Underworld meets French 🇫🇷 political influence. Lucien, the owner of an antiques store, ends up on the wrong side of those who control the city. Not the ones at the front of newspapers, the ones that lurk in the shadows, pulling the strings. He meets Gabriel who starts working for him, except just by association, Gabriel now ends up in danger. Children are going missing in the city and Gabriel wants to stop it, whilst Lucien knows how to stop it.

There were two massive plot twists in this that I didn’t see coming at all!! I loved the glimpse in to Lucien’s backstory and there were many underlying themes I identified with… whether that be family members or social influences, there was lots to resonate with. Thank you @adatewithkirk for sending this - a story to remember and please please please write a second book!!

Everyone needs to go read this - it’s on Amazon both paperback and Kindle 😍

I'm not usually into vampire books but when I saw this there was something about the blurb and cover that grabbed me. I'm glad that it did! It's unlike any other book I've read.

I love the writing style and I found it very compelling. I loved Lucien and Gabriel...actually I loved all the characters 😅 suspense, mystery and drama... lots of very valid points in it too about society (Garlon's usually 😜)

Around halfway through my brain got a little muddled with all the characters and wondering how it was going to end which is why I took a star off...but most of that was resolved by the end and I can't wait to read Book 2 to learn about some of the mysteries remaining.

There were several things I didn't see coming at all and made me gasp out loud.

Overall thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to others

As a gothic literature fan I really enjoyed this. The characters are really well developed even at a psychological level and character personalities are varied so there will be a favourite for everyone . It explores the concepts of “good” and “evil” without being cliche and using tropes. The fantasy element of the vampires adds to the story in terms of being a metaphor for narcissism. I appreciated the really descriptive language and could easily visualise the scenes of 1920’s Paris. 10/10

Let me start off by saying I never read books that aren’t set in present time because they never keep my attention long enough to finish the book. But this read was written beautifully.

Definitely a must read in October to get into the Halloween mood!!

I received a copy of this via Goodreads giveaways in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this one! It was fantastic. I only wish that it had been longer because I didn't want it to end.
