S.E. Harmon has had a lifelong love affair with writing. It's been both wonderful and rocky (they've divorced several times), but they always manage to come back together. She's a native Floridian with a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters in Fine Arts, and used to spend her time writing educational grants. She now splits her days between voraciously reading romance novels and squirreling away someplace to write them. Her current beta reader is a nosy American Eskimo who begrudgingly accepts payment in the form of dog biscuits. http://seharmon.weebly.com/
To be honest, I struggled to get into the story for the first half of the book or so. I usually love the slow burn, but something about the storyline and the characters felt off to me and I only got more invested once there was some progress in Andrew and Jesse's relationship.
I ended up enjoying the humor and some sweet moments between them but, overall, I didn't find their story as engaging as the one about Blue and Kelly. There were also some inconsistencies and things that were glossed over or happened off page.
Blitzed is book three in the Rules of Possession series by S.E. Harmon. It’s been some time since I read The Blueprint and A Deeper Blue, the first two books in this series, and I adored Blue and Kelly. I was so excited when I realized there was going to be a third book in the series. While Blue and Kelly do make a few appearances in this book, it is not necessary to have read their books to enjoy this one. You can read it as a stand alone but I’m pretty sure once you read this, you will want to go back for their story!
Andrew McAdams is the starting tight end for the Aventura Outlaws. He is out on the injured list for a knee injury and the rehab is taking way too long. He just wants back on the field. A bad night and a couple of drinks, along with an angry District Attorney lands him with a DUI, and an ankle bracelet with some community service hours to log. But once he sees the name Jesse Fox on the list of possible places to volunteer, everything looks just a little bit brighter.
Jesse Fox is the assistant director for Rainbow Harbor, a community center for gay teenagers who need a safe place to hang out. The center is Jesse’s life and he gives it everything he can. Jesse and Andrew have known each other for quite awhile, occasionally crossing paths. Andrew is a talented flirt but Jesse turns a blind eye to him. Even if he did have time to date, which he doesn’t, a football player would definitely not be someone he would be interested in. Been there done that. Never again. But when Andrew shows up at the center ready to work, Jesse is forced to put up with him.
Andrew and Jesse are able to get to know each other in a way that they needed. Andrew grows to respect Jesse for all he is doing and Jesse sees that Andrew is not at all the stereotypical professional athlete. He gives the kids at the center his all and makes a difference. He’s honest, he’s caring, and he wears his heart on his sleeve. He never stood a chance keeping any sort of distance from Andrew.
“I wasn’t sure which part was the scariest part of falling in love. Wondering if you were going to hit the ground, or knowing someone was there to catch you.”
These two were so adorable together. My one complaint is that it took too long for them to finally get together. As a romance reader, I feed on the swoon factor and while I understand why Jesse took so long to give in, I was getting impatient. But, having said that, once he did, it was amazing. There was no angst with these two. Once Jesse was in with Andrew, he was in. Their journey was going to be a rough one. Jesse has a past and Andrew is a public figure. But they stood by each other all the way. I live for this stuff! And the ending was so wonderful. I got plenty of swoons in the final chapter.
This is a sweet, sexy, angst free book that will make you smile and yes, you will swoon. I hope you enjoy spending time with Jesse and Andrew.
He licked up my release as I told him that he was freaky and gross. Then I kissed him and sucked on his tongue thoroughly because freaky gross people need friends too.
Enjoyed this sports romance, just wish I felt more of a connection with these two. The last 25% really picked up the story, wish the entire book had been this good! As always, Harmon's dialogue is hilarious
Jesse and Andrew were really cute and sweet. I enjoyed the book mostly. Kinda.
But
It felt so generic, like any other sports MM out there. They start by just hooking up. They fall in love secretly. Can their love survive the media circus? Yawn.
I’m having a hard time accepting that it’s the same series as Blue and Kelly’s story. The first two books are all about struggle, and angst, and imperfect characters. And I loved it.
This was so…wholesome. They were so perfect it gave me a headache.
Super sweet bland books should come with a warning, especially when they come from an author you expect better from. Where were the feelings?
I adored this book. I absolutely loved Andrew and Jesse together.
Now, it's been so long since I read the first two books in this series - apparently 4 whole years, wow - that I don't remember Andrew at all from it, but this gives enough info about his part, however small, in the first two books. He has taken over for Blue after he retired, and is now one of the star players on the Miami team Blue used to be on. This opens with him months into rehabbing his knee after a nasty injury sidelined him at the end of the previous season, and he's still sidelined at the start of the next football season at the start of this book.
We also learned that, with everything going on with his injury and some personal stuff, like the anniversary of his dad dying, Andrew got drunk one night and slept it off in his car with the motor running, and that was enough to give him a DUI.
To avoid going to jail because of a DA that is wanting to be "tough on crime" even for rich, famous guys like Andrew, he agrees to a deal where he has to wear a monitor that monitor's his alcohol intake for the next three months while he does community service somewhere.
And it just so happens, the guy Andrew has been kinda crushing on over the years, Jesse Fox, works at one of the LGBTQ+ centers that counts as community service.
Jesse has been...resistant to Andrew over the years, even though Andrew is an out and proud bisexual football player.
At first, because he was seeing another athlete, but then that ended and Jesse still said no. Partly because that guy burned him pretty bad, but also because Jesse has had a pretty tough life, and it's hardened him and he has walls upon walls, and really, at the heart of it all, he's just scared to put his heart out there, to be vulnerable with someone again. Understandably so.
But as the days, weeks go by, Andrew, who is a genuinely sweet, kind guy, start to wear Jesse down. He is presistant with Jesse, but he isn't pushy at the same time. He just occasionally asks Jesse out every once in awhile, even though Jesse says no every time.
But deep down, Jesse is totally taken with Andrew, and they both know it, even as Jesse tries so hard to deny, deny, deny.
But the more Jesse gets to know Andrew, the harder it is for him to resist the big hunk of a football player.
And Jesse comes off prickly and a little mean at first, but those are his walls trying to protect him. Because underneath all that is a big softy, too, and Andrew is totally smitten with him right back. Andrew has never had a serious relationship, so even though he was crushing on Jesse for a long time, he never thought he'd fall in love with the prickly yet adorable man.
I absolutely loved their chemistry. They just licked so well from the beginning. My only real gripe, and my reason for .5 off with this, is that I wish we had gotten a little more with the epilogue. We get the hint that Jesse is , but we don't actually get to see it. I would have rather gotten to see it instead of just Jesse thinking about it as he went over his speech in his head. I felt a little gypped at the end there, that we didn't actually get to . So not getting to see it was very disappointing for me.
So, aside from feeling bereft by the ending, this was so good and practically perfect for me (although just a pinch more steam wouldn't have hurt ;) although that's just me being greedy. What we did get, which was a good amount, was so good)
I just loved these two and their love story. I loved seeing Jesse let down his walls with Andrew, bit by bit as the story went on.
This just felt so well rounded overall and I just loved their characters and their romance, their wonderful chemistry as well as the plot. It just all worked so well together and I absolutely loved it.
👍 So two MASSIVE thumbs up from me! 👍
Highly recommend this. It's just so good. If Ms. Harmon wants to give us more of these two, as well, I wouldn't be opposed ;) Even though they get their HEA by the end of this, I just loved them a lot and would love to see m ore of them. Or maybe one of the other football players unexpectedly falling for a guy? Maybe ;) Either way, I'm not picky.
I love this author so freaking much and I so wish they wrote more books and more frequently. Curiously, I haven’t read the other 2 books in this sort of series because I felt they were very angsty and also because friends to lovers is the least of my favorite tropes but now I regret it so very much and I will read them very soon. This book has beautiful excellent writing, it also has this author’s typical smart humor, and a beautiful romance. I loved Andrew so so sooo much 😍 . I want more books from SE Harmon, please!!
It’s been quite some time since there was a new book in these series, but it was worth the wait! You might remember Kelly and Blue, from The blueprint and A deeper blue. They make a few appearances in this story too, but it’s also perfectly readable as a stand alone. Andrew - one of the mc’s in this funny, sweet romance - was Blue’s replacement and there was some animosity between those two, specially since Andrew also hooked up with Kelly before Blue and Kelly became serious. Andrew has his eyes set on Jesse for quite some time, and Jesse has his reasons to say no time and time again. But of course eventually he gives in and a sweet friendship develops. Which, of course, turns into something more. This was one of the slowest of slow burns I have ever read, but it was a beautiful journey to watch Jesse slowly open up to Andrew. He had serious trust issues but Andrew was patient and understanding and he did everything he could to make Jesse see he was serious about him. This book has the trademark SE Harmon humour and I love how she manages to make serious topics feel a little lighter because of that. She’s one of my one click authors - I love her Spectral files series and Blue and Kelly are one of my favorite couples ever! This was a fun, enjoyable read and it was great to see Blue and Kelly again!!
I kindly received an advanced copy from gay romance reviews and this is my honest, unbiased review
I can’t decide if I wasn’t in the right mood for this or if I just wasn’t having a great time reading it. I was bored a lot and found myself flipping pages without registering what I was reading which is unusual for me. I actually enjoyed the beginning much more than the middle and end.
I can’t pinpoint anything that I didn’t like except for a lack of connection…like things would happen to the characters that would normally be a huge discussion with each other (like the scene with Jesse’s dad) but nothing ever came of it to further along the relationship.
I’m a big fan of this author’s humour, and it was a bit toned down here but still made me happy.
I loved the first two books in this series, and I thought this made for a lovely update! Great characters and a great build. I read this while sick (and am still sick), so my brain is a bit fuzzy with the words, but I really liked this one a lot!
I didn't like the first book of this series - that featured Blue and Kelly - and I stayed away from the follow-up title. BUT, this one featured different couple, and I believed that it might bring different vibe as well.
And yep, I loved this one better.
Although... despite the ten-years-gap, as Jesse mentioned, it didn't feel that way. Either Andrew was more mature than his age, or Jesse acted younger than his. Either way, because of that, I never bothered with the age-gap. They felt right together. I loved the "courting" process, as Andrew slowly but surely wore Jesse down (in a GOOD way, not in a stalker-don't-know-the-word-no kind of person).
As always, the banter is great, and the humor shone through
I'll start with it's been a long time since I read the first 2 books in this series, and I remember liking them okay, but not loving them. So people who love the first 2 books might have different feelings, but I found this to be the best book of the series! I absolutely loved Andrew and Jesse. Their relationship was very sweet and they had incredible banter that has almost become synonymous with Harmon's couples. It's also definitely not surface level with just a flirty and fun story but touches a lot more deeper things. Definitely a book that made me smile throughout
I’ve enjoyed several of this authors book, including the first 2 in this series Book 3 follows Andrew who had been a minor “love” interest for Kelly in the previous books and the very private and broody Jesse who is reluctant to give into Andrews charm.
Whilst this was overall a relatively enjoyable read, I did find my mind wandering often throughout. There seemed to be some spark missing to draw me in and I found myself reading to finish the book, rather than to enjoy the story.
Oh well..2 out of 3 ain’t bad! I’ll definitely still be keeping my eyes peeled for what this author has on offer next.
I loved the first two books in this series and this one didn’t disappoint. I enjoy SE Harmon’s rather distinctive tone of writing. I’m not always in the mood for it but today I was and this worked really well for me. I enjoyed the slow burn romance and the nice input from Blue and Kelly in book 1. I loved that Andrew wasn’t a huge fan of Blue! Almost every book I read the current mcs always love the previous mcs and it can be a bit cringey/hero worshipy whenever they make an appearance but I loved how genuine this felt. I loved Kelly and Jesse’s interactions.
I’m always a sucker for a character with a past like Jesse’s and I enjoyed the way it was written, not too many shock details for the sake of it, nicely done. This has a similar storyline to a favourite read of mine but was nicely different too.
My main bugbear was that Jesse’s behaviour in their first scene together felt like a different character to how he acted in the rest of the book and I felt out of whack for a bit but then his character kind of grew once we got his point of view and it was fine. I would have really liked some scenes of Andrew with his team too once Jesse was on the scene and their reaction to his past, I felt like that was important and missing. Or even his families reaction? It was all a bit too easy given the lead up for it and the naturally expected fallout. We needed some more Andrew chapters in the end there! I was also kind of expecting a bit more with the Trace storyline but now anticipating he may be the next book??
Weirdly my favourite part of this was actually the epilogue! Normally I can take them, leave them or cringe my way through them but this was so lovely and just right.

Definitely hit the spot and reminded me just how much I enjoy this author. It was easy to pick up and was connected in the best way to the first two books for my sort of memory, loosely.
Andrew truly was a treat and so much more than his profession. He was just so loveable and likeable. Well rounded and he had such a great head on his shoulders.
Jesse. Jeez. What can I say? He deserves all the awards for what he overcame to get where he is. He deserves all the love and Andrew was just perfect for him.
It was fun to see Blue and Kelly and yeah for the Delaware, my home state!
It looks to me like we may get another book based on the ending, so fingers crossed!
1. The writing was engaging 2. Good amount of humour 3. No silly obstacles and soap opera drama between the two MCs. 4. The last 45% was the most interesting.
CONS
1. The MCs were not as engaging or interesting. I thought Andrew would have been a little darker and more nuanced but he was just nice. Jesse had bit of a past but he wasn’t all that interesting either. 2. The story was very typical and I am so used to this author really bringing me into her stories. This is the first time where I found myself feeling bored.
I was actually hoping we would have gotten Connor’s book and whilst Trace King was the biggest kind of 🤬 I kind of want to see if he ever pops back up again.
I liked Andrew (AJ) a lot. He was engaging, funny, kind and persistent. He needed to be. As Jesse… well prickly is the word. I understood he was defensive and has emotional walls built higher than Everest! But I found him a little bit too sharp sometimes and I really felt for AJ . He was judged by Jesse a bit too much for my liking. His ex Trace was an arse and one of the many reasons for Jesse’s reticence in building a relationship with Andrew.
The story as a whole was engaging. I liked the side characters and how they fit within the framework of the plot and romantic relationship.
It’s always nice to see past characters getting a cameo. It’s like going back to meet old friends and to see where they are now in their lives.
An enjoyable but a bit too light a read for me, to be truly memorable.
This was a make me laugh and be happy love story! Jesse has a little bit of attitude about having to deal with an NFL player. Then Andrew ends up actually being a decent guy and this of course annoys Jesse! He does not want to like him! Jesse brings on the snark and Andrew fires back. One of the best banter dynamics I have ever read. I could not stop smiling at these two! Jesse cannot resist Andrew and their chemistry is spot on! It was an absolute joy to watch Jesse open up and accept that Andrew was genuine and the real deal!
I read this slow…all in one sitting but savored every word. I just did not want it to end. This is my favorite kind of romance, we go along the ride while 2 guys fall deeply, unconditionally in-love. Andrew is such a lovable guy… fun and all kinds of cocky but such depth too. Jesse…such a servant’s heart but so guarded…and who could blame him with so many hurts. Man, I just love when the walls drop. The banter between these two is first rate. The side characters enhance our storyline but never over-shadow. No back and forth or break-ups even though they had to figure things out. Bottom line- Loved it and need more of this series.
I feel like OMG SQUEEE isn't a great review, so I'll try and put into words just how much I loved this book. Blitzed was such a lovely read. Just wonderful.
Andrew & Jesse had some of the best dialogue that Ive read in a while. Their snark and sweetness jumped off the page for me. Both men have stuff and baggage, but the angst was minimal.
Despite the banter, this book runs deep. It's a simply wonderful story that will definitely be getting a re-read.
I'd recommend reading the first 2 books in the series, Blitzed can stand on its own but there are a few crossover characters.
Self note: As much as I want to read this, for my own sanity I cannot due to a reviewer mentioning that the epilogue has one MC thinking about proposing but we never get to see it and that would bother me too much and leave me feeling unsatisfied 😭

The best S.E. Harmon read since Coddiwomple for me. Loved AJ and Jesse as characters, the drama surrounding Jesse's awful background was sensitively handled, Jesse's father was sent off with a flea in his ear [money-grabbing swine] and it was nice to catch up with Blue and Kelly again.
I've waited for this story in what feels like forever.
The Blueprint and A Deeper Blue were among the first M/M stories I ever read, and they remain at the top of my all time favourite romance novel list.
Now, Blitzed isn't about Kelly and Blue (even if they do make a few appearances) but about Andrew McAdams - Blue's sort of but not quite arch nemesis. And it's awesome. It doesn't reach the same laugh-and-snort level as the first two instalments. Andrew's more mature than Blue, and Jesse isn't even near as snarky as Kelly, but Blitzed still has that same Harmon vibe that I adore. A glorious blend of immature humour, sarcasm and cynicism. Love it!
Technically it’s not absolutely necessary to read the first books in the series, it’s probably possible to enjoy it as a stand-alone. But why would you want to? If you haven’t read the first two you’ve missed out big time. So read those first.
Anyway. The story starts with Andrew injured, struggling with his physical therapy to work his way back in shape and get back in the game. When a nap in his car ends up getting him community service, Andrew chooses to work at Rainbow Harbor, an LGBTQ+ youth centre managed by Jesse Fox, a guy Andrew's been unsuccessfully trying to charm into going on a date. Jesse is determined to keep turning down Andrew, no matter how tempting he is. Jesse's been burned before, and anyway, a public relationship with an NFL star is out of the question because of Jesse's past.
The tone of this story is different than the first two books. It's more serious somehow. Maybe because of the setting of an underfunded LGBTQ+ youth centre, or because of Jesse's demons and how his troubled past dictates his present life. But it's still light and sweet romance when it comes down to it, with a HEA of course.
Andrew surprised me. Sure, I knew he was a good guy, that much was clear from Kelly's viewpoint in previous books. But I was expecting more of an immature man-child (Blue version 2 maybe?), but instead he turned out to be this super sweet and considerate guy who wasn't afraid to be vulnerable. Fun-loving and goofy, yes, but not so much that it took over his entire personality. Jesse was a bit on the serious side. His job is his life, and his personal life suffers for it. His past experiences - both with his family and a previous partner - makes it hard for him to trust anyone.
It might sound like Andrew pursues Jesse in the "won't-take-no-for-an-answer" creepy kind of way, but's that not the case at all. Harmon managed to keep Andrew's interest and flirting light and playful, without ever crossing the line. And I also thought Jesse's conflicted feelings were nicely depicted. He's obviously very attracted to Andrew but is afraid for so many reasons. I thought Jesse's background was super intriguing, and I would have loved for that to have been an even bigger part of the story. There's him being thrown out on the street as a teen, his on-going tentative contact with his father, and the hard choices he had to make to survive on the street. Jesse's experiences are stark contrasts to Andrew's life, even if he too have some demons of his own.
All in all. This is a delightful read with just the right amount of steam, humour and angst. I can't lie though, Kelly and Blue are still my favourites, but Andrew and Jesse exceeded my expectations. Also, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Trace gets his own book. A redemption story is just what he (and I) needs. Anyway. 5 stars. Highly recommend.
Ho amato ogni singola cosa.
