Growing up, all I ever wanted was to play soccer. I know it isn't going to be forever, but while I'm still in college, I am going to give it my all. Just like I’ve always done.
Everything was going according to plan...until the universe decided it would be fun for me to develop feelings for the man I saw as nothing more than an annoyance.
Sasha is the last man I expected to fall for, and when I find out he wants to date me, it leaves me even more confused. Even though I know he’s a good guy, I’m still terrified to trust him with my heart. He isn’t known for being a relationship guy, and that’s the only way I’m built.
We are polar opposites and most likely would never work out. But is he worth the risk?
↓↓ This was a cute story that followed Sasha and Rio.
Rio has always been focused on soccer until Sasha came barreling into his life a few years ago and refuses to leave. As the years have gone on his feelings toward Sasha has increased and he finally takes the chance and wants to pursue things further with Sasha.
Sasha has been running from his past for years and has finally settled in to GSU without having to look over his shoulders constantly. Along the way he has made some incredible friends that included Rio. He has always had a little crush on Rio but was always known as the player, since he didn't do relationships due to his toxic last one.
Once these two finally expressed their feelings to each other, I loved watching them fall in love. Both were so patient and kind to each other as they were both dealing with overcoming things. I loved the friends and the found family aspect of GSU.
After getting glimpses of the MMC in this book, I can't wait for more on him in the next book!
Yet again, this author proves that there is so much more to falling in love, no matter who you are. The insecurities. The worries that you’re not enough. The fear of past hurts. And the communication that comes with any truly successful relationship. They’re all here and they bring some excellent friendships with them.
Sasha and Rio may seem like they don’t match, but that is so very wrong. They complement each other in the best ways and they make each other whole. Even knowing that Sasha has a big secret (and a good reason for it) doesn’t stop love and friendship from growing, and the fact that Sasha has a good support system when he needs it makes this all worth the ride!
I am incredibly pleased that I was able to binge-read the three existing books in this series one after the other. I love interconnected series. Sasha and Rio have known each other since the first book. Sasha is known as a cheerful playboy, only interested in one-night stands and definitely not relationships. On the other hand, Rio is demisexual, meaning he needs to have a deep friendship before finding someone sexually attractive.
In the second book, we discover that Sasha really likes Rio. Rio is also quite shocked when he develops feelings for Sasha. It makes me very happy that they decided to go for it together and that they give each other the time and space to develop their relationship. There is much more behind Sasha’s happy persona, which brings some interesting twists.
Rio is also a delightful surprise to me. Although he may not be intimate often, he has a dirty mouth and can take the lead in bed. And he is a TOP! This combination of unexpected depth and exciting character development makes the series truly special.

This book was largely boring tbh. Demisexual Rio realizes he’s attracted to Sasha, who’s always flirted with him. They immediately start dating and are in love a week later. That’s not the problem, though, as I usually enjoy an instalove romance. But like, there’s nothing of substance happening here until about 80% in. Even then, the conflict that arises is anticlimactic and rushed. I wish this was fleshed out a bit more.
For spice searchers, there are some spicy scenes but they don’t actually sleep together until 90% in (hence the 1/5 on the spice scale).
I didn’t care that much for the first book in the series, but loved the second, so thought there was hope for this one, especially since this couple was hinted at previously. But I’m not sure if I’ll continue the GSU series as the storytelling falls a little flat.
Oh, I think I have a new favorite within this series, and it's Rio and Sasha and i love them so much! Their chemistry was beautiful, Sasha was incredibly patient with Rio (yes, even though it's hard to believe, the same guy we saw in the previous book was very patient) and Rio didn't hesitate or doubt when he started developing feelings for Sasha. The whole "what will happen after we graduate" theme felt real and not necessarily romantically between the protagonists, but individually, each of them had their battles, and I liked how they came together to fight them.
The whole university mascot and tarot cards theme was interesting, I even had a good laugh because of it. Now, there's a little bit of drama that, while I appreciated how it was written and how it provided closure for Sasha, felt a little bit too dramatic for my taste if I'm being 100% honest.
Both of them stole my heart, the representation in this book (as in the others) was fantastic, and I can't wait to keep reading this series because each book gets better than the last.
📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.

Having read the previous 2 books in this series, I was excited to get to read Sasha & Rio's story...their romance has seemed destined since the first book!
We are briefly introduced to Sasha and Rio in Schooling the Quarterback, in which we find out that Rio is demisexual and Sasha is a huge flirt & a self-proclaimed "not a relationship guy" who is more into one night stands. While Sasha does flirt with Rio in that book, Sasha ends up backing off once he discovers that Rio is demi. In Testing the Goalie, we see a bit of them as well as they are part of the MC's friend group, though Rio sees Sasha as more of an annoyance than a friend.
However, over the course of two years, Rio begins to realize that Sasha in fact is a friend, not just an annoyance. This opens his eyes and Rio begins to see Sasha in a new light. Their friendship deepens and they show up for each other, which opens up some new, more romantic feelings in them both. I love that their romance is built on a solid foundation of friendship & I truly feel the love they have for each other is lasting.
In contrast to Testing the Goalie, there aren't many spice scenes in this book, but what's there is hot. Who would have thought Rio could bring it with the dirty talk?
Overall, this is another enjoyable entry in the GSU world - can't wait for the next book.
What to expect:
* Demisexual rep * Soccer player MC + Dancer/team Mascot/pre-law MC * Annoyances to Friends to Lovers * partner abuse (in the past) * on page death of a (minor) character * anxiety rep * mystical stones/tarot card readings/dreams * fewer spicy scenes than the previous 2 books, but it's still hot
I received an ARC of this review & this is my honest opinion.
Here's "Teasing the Winger" by Laura John. Its the third novel in her Green Springs University (aka GSU) series.
["Falling for a tease is a bad idea, right?
Growing up, all I ever wanted was to play soccer. I know it isn't going to be forever, but while I'm still in college, I am going to give it my all. Just like I’ve always done.

This book had a lot less angst and push-back than I had imagined. There was some hesitation, from both sides, of the Big Feelings and jumping into a relationship, but *gasp* they ended up talking things out.
They were both so understanding of the other's needs. They were sweet and fluffy and adorable. Plus, the sheer support they got from their friend groups?!
Of course there was spice, which was also perfect. Laura never stops amazing me with her work.
Trigger Warnings: previous domestic abuse, (minor) gun use, toxic ex, absent parents, and more
This book had a very great representation of Asexuality. It was cute and a bit spicy. Overall a great opposites attract, annoyances to lovers story between two very different yet so alike people. Sasha is very brave and a rain of sunshine despite everything his been through. And Rio is this shy yet loving, kind person who looks out for his friends. I very much enjoyed reading about Sasha and Rio’s experiences and struggles. I read this book as an arc and very happy I got chosen for it. And I’m also aware there’s other books in this series and maybe that’s why I had a couple questions about Sasha’s and Rio’s relationship.
I will admit, it felt a bit too rushed. I don’t know how to explain it. I’m guessing it was meant to be a short sweet story but it felt way too rushed and all over the place. There was a few moments where I got lost in the story. There wasn’t a lot of explanation to a few topics and some felt rushed (over the top). A main explanation I felt like needed more clarification/details was when Lux showed up and how he passed away? Also if I remember correctly, Sasha had dated a friend of Rio’s and that’s how they had met and stayed friends!??
I know since they already had a friendship (somewhat) before becoming lovers, the chemistry between them was real and fast. But I felt like there wasn’t really any connection or a get to know each other better before the “big stuff” was shared. Sasha got this big dream of becoming a lawyer and still teaching dance but what about Rio?! It’s just left like it was a lot yet nothing. Don’t get me wrong I loved this book but I just wished it didn’t feel like it was rushed in a way. This isn’t my first time reading from this author but it is my first time arc reading for them. I loved her books Knox and Denver. I just wish this one would have been more like her other books. Please do give this book a chance though. I loved it just not as much as I thought I would. ♥️♥️
Rio and Sasha have been sort of friends for a while, mainly because they have mutual friends. Mostly Sasha has crushed on Rio and Rio has found Sasha annoying. However, lately, Rio has been seeing Sasha differently. When Sasha gets a gig as the school’s mascot and starts showing up to all of Rio’s soccer games, the two men start spending even more time together. Soon Rio realizes that he really likes Sasha and Sasha is willing to try dating again.
The two men move slowly in their relationship because Rio is demisexual and Sasha is still scarred from a very bad prior relationship. However, their banter is great and there’s still plenty of heat between them. Sasha is more sexual than Rio, but he’s perfectly willing to move at Rio’s pace. There are also plenty of sweet moments as they get closer and begin to fall in love.
“Teasing the Winger” is a low-angst romance novel between two men go from sort of friends to dating. Sasha was respectful of Rio’s sexuality, which allowed Rio to feel comfortable in their relationship. It’s clear from their first kiss that the men have plenty of chemistry, and the few steamy scenes are well done and enjoyable. The side characters were entertaining and added depth to the story, especially BooBoo and Hailey. I enjoyed reading “Suddenly You” and rate it four stars.
This romance of a pair of men who have been attracted to each other but are afraid to act on their feelings starts strong. Rio plays college soccer, and, even though he is good, he does not see this path as a career. He has other plans for his future. Rio is demisexual and needs to feel a deep connection before being sexually attracted to someone. He accepts himself and finds it difficult to date because most people aren’t patient enough.
Sasha is a dancer who also has a backup for his career. He loves to dance but wants to be a lawyer. Sasha is a flirt, but that is more of a defense mechanism. We learn early on that he fled due to a very toxic former relationship. Sasha gets a gig as a soccer team’s mascot, which puts him close to Rio. The two see more of each other, and Rio is surprised at the level of his feelings when he realizes he made a rushed judgment about Sasha.
The romance was fine, and I enjoyed the story, but it started to unravel towards the end. A horrible scene played out, and the end results were almost non-existent. What should have been a much bigger deal, not only legally but emotionally, was quickly resolved and felt very unfinished. While the book really did not work for me, it had many good points, and I know others will enjoy it. Happy reading.
**Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure. A review wasn’t a requirement.**
Another great read from John in the GSU series. This one follows Rio, star soccer player, and Sasha, ex-dancer and pre-law student as they form the most unlikely of relationships that leads them down the path of love.
What drew me into this story was the demisexual representation with Rio. It was executed and explained well for those who may not be familiar with this part of the spectrum, but I also feel that John could have leaned into it more through the narrative.
I loved how it definitely went from a case of annoyance to lovers - it was sweet seeing Rio fall for Sasha, and realising that the dancer was maybe not as bad as he previously thought. The backstory for Sasha had me saddened, and injected just the right amount of angst into the narrative. I loved the continued wider cast of characters mentioned, especially the nod back to the MMC's of book one of the series.
I do wish we had a bit more conflict/longer 3rd act issue, as I felt it was almost dealt with too neatly and too quickly, and I'm definitely seeing a pattern in all of John's writing - it's very formulaic, not just for this series, but across the board. Still enjoyable as a quick read.
Another good entry in the GSU series.
Thank you to the author and @chaoticcreativeservices for the eARC opportunity. These are my honest thoughts that I have provided voluntarily.
Another really enjoyable college sports romance from Laura John. I especially liked the demisexual representation with Rio's character. The initial resistance to friendship from Rio towards Sasha seems like it was worn away, firstly by Sasha's unerring sunshine personality but also by Rio realising that first impressions may not always be right and learning from that. There is a good amount of honesty between the two which was refreshing and I enjoyed the slow burn pace of their romance though, once feelings got involved, I thought that felt slightly rushed. The drama of the story comes in the form of Sasha past, which comes with a content warning (see below). It's good that he's found such a good community of people at college who like him for himself and are there to back him up and support him whenever he needs. I have loved reading this series from Laura John and look forward to Carter's story next. This can be read as a standalone but I can highly recommend the whole series. **Content warning - memories of domestic abuse. Attempt to hurt MC with a gun** I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
This is an opposites attract to more college sports romance, featuring Rio and Sasha, and is the third book in the GSU series.
Sasha is a dancer, law student and playboy and Rio is a soccer player and is hoping to meet someone to date seriously. They are complete opposites when it comes to dating.
Rio and Sasha have known each other for a while and met through mutual friends. Sasha has had a crush on Rio for a while but never thought he had a chance with Rio until Rio starts seeing him in a new light.
This is quite a sweet book, it was heartwarming to see Sasha and Rio start dating and find their HEA. Sasha had a past which scared him from falling in love again and Rio being demi found dating a challenge, but somehow they take a chance and put their trust in each other to explore their feelings.
I’ve read all of the books in this series and have really enjoyed them. Make sure you read the TWs for this book.
Things to expect in this MM romance are: College Sports Romance Opposites attract to more Dancer x soccer player Demi rep Reformed playboy Slow burn Bit of a crush Hurt / comfort Read TW HEA
I truly love this series. The series revolves around best friends who are all athletes at Green Springs University, a college that is known to be LGBT friendly. These men have become best friends over the years and highly supportive of one another in both their sporting events and life in general. Over the years they have also befriended Sasha, an over-the-top flirty guy who doesn’t do relationships. Rio is demisexual and therefore doesn’t agree with Sasha's flirtatious ways. So he is truly shocked when he suddenly starts to have feelings for the annoying guy. But Sasha has had a traumatic past and getting close to any one guy is scary, thus his “never do relationships” policy. But could it be that Rio is different? Could Sasha and Rio finally be the right connection for both of them to move forward together?
This is a very heartwarming, heartfelt read that this reader just couldn’t get enough of. I have fallen in love with all the group of friends at Green Springs University, but I have to admit Rio and Sasha truly stole my heart.
Do you remember that feeling when you had a crush and started falling in love? This book is that feeling. 💘
Sasha (MMC): Ballet dancer, studying law, new koala mascot for the soccer team, might want to do more than push Rio's buttons Rio (MMC): College soccer player, raised by his grandpa (PopPop), wants to be a teacher, identifies as Demi, might not find Sasha as annoying as he pretends to

I received an ARC copy and wanted to leave an honest review.
𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 is the 3rd book in the GSU series by Laura John, featuring a sweet and spicy MM sports romance with a side of suspense for Sasha and Rio. Rio has always been laser focused on soccer, but it seems that the universe has other plans, when he finds himself enamored with someone who is the poster boy for the opposites attract trope. Sasha has been hurt in the past, but is he ready to take a risk with Rio?
I enjoyed Sasha and Rio’s story that was cute, sweet, and eventually spicy as they navigated a new path together. They had such a strong and entertaining friend group as well, and the suspense storyline was an interesting and heart-pounding twist that enhanced the drama and magnified the emotions, too.
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
Teasing the Winger is book three of the GSU Series.
After reading the previous book in the series, I really wanted to read about Rio. He is demisexual and I wasn't overly familiar with this type of sexuality, so reading about how Rio interacts with others was interesting and eye opening. Sasha flits from person to person and doesn't do commitment because he has a traumatic history with relationships. I was glad he finally felt safe and comfortable enough to open up towards Rio and tell him about his past.
I enjoyed reading about these two because it wasn't an instantaneous relationship between the two. It was friendship first, which developed into something more. It made a solid foundation for their relationship. They had open communication and learned about each other before rushing into something too fast. I liked how they grew with each other.
This was a great addition to the series and I can't wait for the next book!
This is a great addition to this series. I was so excited to finally get Rio's story. And Laura as always did not disappoint.
Rio is demisexual, so once a bond is formed for him the gloves are off. Laura provides a great introduction to this form of sexuality and how it evolves with the characters is fantastic. It was something I enjoyed reading and learning more about.
Sasha has a past that follows/haunts him and taints any "relationships" he has. It isn't until Rio that he faces some past traumas and feels safe enough to really have a relationship.
This story was a build-up and I was there for it. Their friendship provides them with a foundation they were able to evolve. I enjoyed seeing them learn about each other as friends first. They both realized trust and communication with each other was needed or moving beyond a friendship would just not work. However, once they did...the spark was live and it was smoking!
Rio the soccer player, ask him how he got his nickname someday, it's hilarious, a Sasha the law student/ballet dance teacher have been not really friends but friendly sorta, hanging out together with mutual friends, and one day a accidental touch sparks between them and both afraid to question themselves if they each felt it, different but similar background, different but similar se$$al orientation, things changed and talking to each other helped overcome the hurdles they inadvertently put there, realizing they have more in common and secretly crushed on each other, thrilling college soccer games with a high energy kangaroo mascot that gets the crowd excited, Sasha's past comes to make good on a threat, no more living in fear, amazing story of love, faith, trust, honestly, thank you, I have voluntarily read and review this ARC, thank you for the privilege, Dana Zamora
Another great read from Laura John in this 3rd book in the GSU Series. I have been lucky enough to get an advanced read for all three and have not been disappointed.
Sasha and Rio seem like the most unlikely of matches. Rio is solely focused on soccer and school. He is Demi and has never had anyone he has had that connection with to look for more. Sasha is a dance loving pre-law student who loves to just go with the flow and have no strings attached relationships, or so everyone thinks...Sasha has been harboring a crush on Rio for years.
Watching these two build off that friendship into more was very well written. The secret that Sasha is kidding was well written and gave this light, quick read a little bit of mystery that made all the more enjoyable.
Rio has kept Sasha in the annoying friend of a friend box but is slowly starting to see a different side to him. Of course being demisexual has Rio questioning what these feelings could really be.
Sasha has always been a flirt who is willing to hook up but never commit to anyone. His past holds a lot of trauma that he feels he may never recover from. When his flirting with Rio starts to change he feels that now may be the time to take a leap.
As these two begin to explore where this may lead to Sasha has to face the person from his past who has scarred him deeply. Will this make him run or will it make him lean on Rio deepening the already deep connection they have?
Watching these two finally find their safe place and their person was such a wonderful feeling and I can't wait to see what's in store for us next.
In this third installment of the GSU series, we meet Sasha, a dancer who is studying to be a lawyer, and Rio, a star soccer player studying to be a teacher. Sasha is best friends with the partner of Rio’s best friend, so they have been thrown into proximity together. Sasha is outgoing and flamboyant and an annoyance to Rio. They don’t have a whole lot of interactions, Sasha teases Rio, Rio ignores Sasha. Status quo changes slowly, as Rio, who is demi-sexual, becomes more aware of Sasha. When the dance studio where Sasha works is flooded, he is desperate to find a new job and it turns out to be the new GSU Koalas mascot, Kennington. Sasha has a terrible past that he’s slowly recovering from and he’s finally feeling comfortable enough to let his light shine again. Dance is his passion, but he knows “I need something to pay the bills.” Luckily, he likes his law studies. For his part, Rio has been through some things of his own. “My parents weren’t abusive, but they didn’t care.” He started in soccer when he was young and gave it his all. “Maybe that’s because the coaches on the team actually paid attention to me, unlike my parents.” Sasha is able to put his dance skills to use with the mascot job and it turns into something a little bigger. “They love you, so much that the team has developed a superstition around you. They’ve asked that you attend all their games.” Being a non-sports fan I didn’t realize how much credence sports teams put on superstition! The good thing is it puts Rio and Sasha in even closer contact. I liked seeing the struggle Rio had to understand his feelings but I admit, it seemed a little too insta-love for me. By the end of the book they had only been together five weeks and were professing love and forever. I wanted the teasing/annoyance part to go on a little more to make it seem realistic. There is some angst here, but it does not come from Rio and Sasha, but from outside forces. I needed a little more in this as well. We get the background but the actual events were not realistic for me. I can’t go into it without spoilers, but that aspect didn’t work well for me. Reviewed for Love Bytes Reviews
I adored Sasha and Rio's story. Outgoing and effervescent, Sasha cannot help but steal the spotlight wherever he goes. Rio on the other hand, prefers to show off on the soccer field, and fade into the background everywhere else. This friends to lovers trope is well written. Both of these characters have popped up in the previous books in the GSU series. They've danced around one another, pretended to dislike one another in this back and forth melody that finally hits a crescendo in this book. There are several steamy scenes as well as some expertly written vulnerability and character growth. Overall wonderful MM sports read.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Sasha and Rio, complete opposites, Sasha is outgoing, not looking for a relationship, while Rio is a bit more reserved and is only looking for a relationship. Rio isn't stupid and knows just how Sasha plays, so he keeps things in the friend zone, until there is a moment of weakness. An almost kiss that has the two reeling a bit, but Sasha makes it clear that he is interested and for more than just a one and done. Will Rio take the chance?
This is such a great world that Laura John has created, taking us to college, while at the same time giving us some nice drama, a spark of danger, and naughty bits that a flaming (no pun intended) hot. I give this 4 stars.
Sasha and Rio may seem like a mismatch, but they are cute AF when they finally move past the superficial.
Rio is a lovely guy, who is patient and caring, and he’s the perfect person to show Sasha how much he deserves to be cherished and respected. And of course, Sasha brings some spark to Rio’s life.
It’s a pretty cute pairing, with a lot of lovely friends and family to make the story all the more lovely.
“Falling for a tease is a bad idea, right?” is a captivating college romance that strikes a perfect balance between lighthearted humor and heartfelt emotion. The MC’s passion for soccer and dedication to her sport are commendable, adding depth to her character and making her relatable. The unexpected romantic interest in Sasha, a man she initially views as an annoyance, introduces a compelling tension that keeps readers engaged. Their contrasting personalities and the MC’s fear of heartbreak create a relatable internal struggle. This story beautifully explores the risk of love and the challenge of opening up to someone who might be worth the gamble. A delightful and thoughtful read for romance enthusiasts.
I received an ARC copy of this book via the author, and I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review. This is the third book in the GSU series, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rio and Sasha's story. Running from an abusive ex many years ago, Sasha ended up in Green Spring and started to build a new life for himself. Rio has always thought that Sasha was a terrible flirt, and so he stayed away from him, until he realised that Sasha was a good person and an honest friend. Wonderful storyline with superb characters and absolutely loved the HEA. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
Sasha and Rio's story is a different take on MM romance for me personally and i found it really interesting and well written.
Rio is intriguing, he shines on the field, is obviously talented yet relationships for him move at an entirely different speed.
Sasha is almost the opposite, and both are hiding scars from previous relationships.
Rio is unsure when he starts viewing Sasha as more than an annoying friend of a friend, however annoying turns to friendship turns to romance and it's delightful.
Lovely sports romance and the steam level is just right too, in my opinion.
I’m new to this series but omg I’m so glad I picked it up. Rio and Sasha were so cute ! I love how this author represents different types of sexualities and hardships and shows them perfectly. This book was cute, spicy and very entertaining, I was sad to finish it but happy. I loved how outgoing Sasha was and how he was portrayed and I also loved our grumpy little rio who was actually a big softie. These two have my heart ♥️ I’m also so inlove with booboo and Hailey. He made me fall inlove with him with only a few words.
Another great book in the series. Sasha is a teacher for ballet, while he goes to college to be a lawyer. The studio floods and can't be used for 6 months, leaving him with no income. One of his students suggests being the koala mascot. Rio is on the soccer team and is going to college to be a teacher. The two met by mutual friends 2 years ago. Sasha has a bad past, and the past is haunting him. Good supportive friends. Demi MC Slow burn Very little angst HEA
