AT HER SERVICE Struggling writer Jess Harper thought her Aunt Felicity's secluded hideaway in the Hollywood Hills would be the perfect place to finish her manuscript. She didn't count on Charlie. Blond, buff and bronzed, he lives in Felicity's guest house and earns his keep by taking care of Felicity when she's in residence and the property in her absence. He cooks and cleans, seems to have an aversion to wearing clothes, and makes it known he's willing to cater to Jess's every need. He's a distraction she doesn't want...and a temptation she might not be able to resist.
He's also not who he appears to be...
Recovery agent Caleb Carpenter is known for doing whatever it takes to reclaim the treasures his employer insures. He’s perfectly willing to seduce Jess to uncover the secrets he believes she’s keeping. He doesn't count on this game of seduction becoming all too real, or on the danger that's stalking them both....
This is a Kindle freebie that is surprisingly entertaining. Despite the cover, it is more than just sex. Falsely accused of a jewel theft, Jess Harper loses her job as a journalist and flees to her godmother's home in LA to finish a book that will get her back on her career track. There she meets Charlie, her godmother's paid boy toy, who isn't all he seems. This book is well written with good dialogue, some suspense and well defined characters. For a freebie it was well done.
Ok so this was a good book not one of my normal reads but since it was free I figured why not. Caleb is a recovery agent looking for the gem and she just got caught in the middle. I was hoping for some more action and there was none. This story was very anticlimactic and a little disappointing. I loved the characters they basically kept me interested in the book. So if you want to read it for any purpose that's it and the main reason for the 3 stars. I thought the story was lacking but again it is just my opinion.
This is NOT a deep book.....BUT this is a FUN book! I loved it! Again, I repeat that I read solely for enjoyment. I'm not interested in reading about the world's problems or dealing with detailed accounts of graphic violence and/or loss....I have real life all around me, so when I read I want to be taken somewhere else, somewhere I can relax and be told a story that will rescue me from 'real life' for a while.
This book did the trick, it was great. I loved the two main characters, and I liked knowing what each of them were thinking. It's a sexy book, but there's a good story here too. I have absolutely nothing to gripe about with this book, and that's why I gave it 5 stars.....a good read, well written, and I will definitely read it again! Recommend to anyone who likes contemporary romance with some mystery, and lots of sexy with a dash of humor here and there as well!
Really enjoyed this read. Charlie is an aspiring actor who lives with Jess's godmother in LA. His rent payment comes in the form of full services or servicing, whichever you choose. Lol. Jess is experiencing writers block on an up coming book about her worldy travels. Her explorations took a turn for the worse when her partner and photographer was caught attempting to steal a Brazilian family's treasured emerald. Now back in the US, Jess retreats to her godmothers LA home to try and break through her writing funk. Was Jess involved in this fiasco? And better yet, is the hottie servant Charlie really seeking to service her or recover the missing emerald????? I thought it was a steamy little read, with a bit if suspense and a perfect amount of humor.
Overall feeling about this book: meh. The book wasn't awful, but I found myself skipping large portions of it because of its predictability. There were moments where the author wrote redundant sentences:"she wore no panties, no bra. She wore nothing at all", this occurs after she strips from a Tshirt (already mentioned that all she wore was a Tshirt.) I didn't find this book to be worth the read, but again aside from small mistakes there isn't anything wrong with it. It seems to be in line with other predictable "girl meets guy-girl and guy have issues-happily ever after" novels.
Good book, I enjoyed it, but I definitely have an issue with the "erotic romance" tag. It belongs under romance, yes, but definitely not under erotic. There sex, yes, but most is glossed over. Only one or two times is there a lot of detail, and even then, it's no where near the level I would expect from an erotic story. There are fewer detailed scenes than in most of the romance books I read. It's a fun story, but definitely short on the erotic!
I got this book off one of the Free Days Amazon does and at the time this tale was titled Kept Man. Caleb is playing the role of Charlie, a wealthy octogenarian's live-in houseboy and actor to get close to her niece, Jess Harper. Everyone's looking for a stolen emerald and suspects Jess has it, but Caleb finds he wants Jess more than the emerald, despite his job depending on it. This was a smart, fun, and hot tale, and I really enjoyed it.
This was a good quick read. It was interesting to read about "Charlie" and what he does for a living...wink wink. I've never heard of an insurance company hire a guy like that before but hey it's a book. Fun read and the sex was done tastefully.
This book is well written with good dialogue, suspense and well defined and likable characters. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a sexy, suspenseful, but not to involved romance/suspense novel!
