Just One Bite: Part One is a collection of the first two books in the Just One Bite series, Love Bite and Bitten by Regret. Combining these two novellas makes a book of decent length and they flow well together making it seem like just the one book.
Just One Bite: Part One is a vampire love story but although there are lots of books of this type it is quite unique. Diandra has recently become a widow after her husband’s murder on the same day she found out she was finally pregnant. Struggling to come to terms with what has happened she befriends the homeless ex-cop who found her husband’s body. Life finally seems to be improving until someone very expected turns up at the house and Diandra leaves the encounter as a vampire.
The characters show a lot of growth especially Diandra as you see her mature and gain lots of understanding as well as grow into her powers as a vampire. This is essentially a love story about two people finding each other and learning what love really is although there are lots of paranormal and crime elements that add extra depth to the story. I really liked how Kay Glass didn’t try to make the characters ‘perfect’ but instead they suffer from many real life problems such as infertility, homelessness, and weight issues.
Just a warning in that there are several fairly graphic f/f sex scenes so if you are small minded and have issues with anyone who is different this is not the book for you and you probably shouldn’t read it. However if you believe that people have the right to love whoever they want you really will enjoy this book as it is very unique and generally just a good book though there are a few issues with spelling and grammar at times.
