4 YOLO STARS

Well this was a delight! I had read the first book, Shredded, in this series and it had been an OK read. So I was on the fence as to whether to continue with this series or not. Obviously, I decided to give it another try. Glad that I did, I really enjoyed this one!

It was so much better. While there was insta-lust between Ash Lewis, hot professional snowboarder and Tansy Hampton, cancer survivor, the pace of their relationship was measured and realistic.

 photo image.jpg2_zpslwxlaprj.jpg

This book dealt with some very serious and depressing issues of cancer, dying, survivor's guilt and how to heal and move on from tragic and life altering events. Ash was truly a likable character and his transformation from the first book, where it ended with a devastating blow to his life, was so well done. The poor guy was on edge, racked with guilt and struggling to do the right thing. While he's barely hanging on, he meets Tansy who is a force to be reckoned with. She's spent the past 10 years of her life fighting for survival from the type of cancer that she was not expected to survive. Tansy is now trying to embrace life and figure out who she is.

 photo image.jpg1_zpsidilicx0.jpg

Ash and Tansy, even with their own personal battles, are good for each other. Of course, there are some sad and very real moments and a bit of angst but it was all very well done. And two secondary characters were absolute gems: Logan, Ash's younger brother who is trying to face life in a wheelchair and Timmy, a young teen who has weeks, if not days to live. Both of these characters, both mere teens, really have a mature way of showing the importance of not sweating the small stuff, of taking life by the balls and squeezing every once of happiness there is to be had!

If you want a little adventure, a dose of reality in the gift of life and a sweet romance, you'll enjoy this read. While it's the second book in the series and the ending of the first book is integral to this story, this could be read as a standalone. And I will say, I'm looking forward to the next book!

Learning To Accept Stars
* * * * Spoiler Free-A 2014 Review
A romance that tackles serious issues ... survivor guilt; understanding how to accept the hand you are dealt and allowing others around you to accept it, too. This looked at the sacrifices made by family; the concerns they have and when to allow the person who has changed to just live their lives....be who they need to be in this new form.

Guilt can be a poison...
after the understanding of what may have happened... it is so important to acknowledge... take it all in... and then move forward... because without that process... you remain stuck in the guilt... the person who was afflicted feels as if they are not good enough as they are now.

Tracy Wolff has used this series to tackle hard subjects with sweet romances attached. She gives the reader the Snowboarding authenticity with detailed dialogue. I felt I was there on the slopes. This is not your everyday series... and it made me think about how important every moment can be.

4.5 - Life isn't always easy. It isn't always fair. But it is an adventure. Stars.

I recommend that if you can, read Shredded (Book 1 in this series) before you start Shattered. It isn’t imperative, but you will get an insight into Ash, and just how much the devastating loss of his parents changes him from the ultra organised, down-to-earth planner of the group, to the closed in, emotionally locked down man that you see in Shattered.

Nothing is okay. Nothing is ever going to be okay. That’s not how my world works.

Ash has pretty much lost everything of the life he knew, struggling with the responsibility of being big brother and guardian to his younger brother Logan. Who is himself also trying to come to terms with the massive changes to his life from the injuries he sustained in the car crash that took his parents. Both are very much ‘living one day at a time’, and both are struggling with feelings of guilt for things that have come to pass, but essentially were out of their control.

Ash – I feel so guilty, and I love him so much.

Ash – “I love you and have never, for one second, wanted you to be anything but what you are.”

At the opposite end of the scale, Tansy has spent almost her entire life fighting to live, now in remission from cancer, it’s finally all about living and trying to find out who she is, she’s not ‘cancer girl’ anymore, and she doesn't want to be defined by who she was, she just isn’t 100% sure who she wants to be yet.

I never let myself dream about anything. It was too painful to think about a future I’d never get the chance to live.

Who is this girl? She’s like a chameleon, changing colour and camouflage every time I see her. From floral sundresses to bitch boots to hipster tees. Which one is the real Tansy? And why do I care so fucking much.

While Tansy sees herself at the beginning of something good, Ash believes he lost what was good in his life with the death of his parents, and his subsequent retirement from Snowboarding. She’s now whole, while he‘s broken, she wears her heart on her sleeve, his is hidden behind a wall of ice, she is light, while all he feels is the dark, yet together they blend and become something else, something that works for all of their facets, and makes them whole.

Enter Timmy, a boy on a mission to enjoy his life to the fullest, for however long (or short) that may be. Add in a trip to the Chilean Andes and a whole lot of new beginnings and ‘firsts’, and this may be Tracy’s best book to date.

I thought this would be a hard story to read, and don't get me wrong it gets quite heavy and emotional in parts, but at the end I had a smile on my face. This is a book about moving out from under the shadow of death, moving on and learning to live with the life you have afterwards, the people that are left in it and accepting the differences and changes in yourself because of the experiences that you have been through.

Tracy Wolff as an author has for me made massive improvements over the past 12 months. Check out my previous reviews for this author, you will see I and her earlier releases have not always gotten on, but I have stuck with her as I believed there was something exceptional in there. I am so glad I did, she is now rapidly becoming one of my favourite authors.

Title: Shattered
Series:Extreme Risk
Author: Tracy Wolff
Release Date: May 20, 2014
Rating:4 stars
Cliffhanger:No
HEA:

This book packs an emotional punch. It deals with some very serious issues on both the hero and the heroine’s side. I knew from reading the last book that Ash was going to have a lot to deal with and get through, but the addition of the heroines issues made for quite the amount of angst. I’m a big fan of Tracy Wolff and especially the extreme risk series in particular. The snowboarder aspect is something different from the norm and this group of friends has really been a treat to read about. There was something about this couple that I really connected with though. From the beginning of this book, I soaked up their story like a sponge. I read their story from beginning to end with minimal pauses, and though I left the book wishing it had more of a solid HEA, overall I relished the story so much. I was willing to look past some issues that others may have a problem with.

Tansy:
Tansy is a fighter. She’s struggled, battled and overcame cancer and at the age of 19, has a fresh start on a real life. She wants to experience life to it’s fullest and find all the things she’s been missing out on. She’s only been in remission for 7 weeks so she’s still fragile, but immediately her giving heart brings her to the Make a Wish foundation where she gets her first job making sick kids’ wishes happen. I loved how caring and selfless she was. And though she’s pretty innocent with not much life experience, she bravely sets out to find herself.

I’m trying to be me. The only problem is I don’t know who that is. I’ve been cancer girl for so long that trying to find another identity is…challenging, especially when everyone around me still sees the sick girl with the port in her chest.

Her own sense of style, her likes and dislikes-those were all insignificant when she was battling for her life. But now she’s a revolving door of fashion and hair colors. Hipster, hippie, rocker, pink hair, blue hair, purple hair…she’s trying everything on and out and finding what feels right. I loved her bright colors and pixie hair-it was so cute to me.

Ash:
Ash is, in one word-numb. After the loss of his parents, he’s absolutely set adrift and fumbling. He’s inconsolable and drowning in guilt. He feels like his parents would still be alive if they hadn’t been coming to see him compete. They never would have been in their car crash and his brother would still be whole again. His younger brother is now paralyzed and all he ever seems to do is make a mess in taking care of him. He gives up snowboarding-his passion and true talent out of guilt and depression and he’s not sure if he’s ever going to find his way back again.

I need to do something. Every fucking breath I take is like a knife in my windpipe, like shards of shattered glass working their way through my veins. Only there’s nothing to do. Nothing to say. Nothing to stop the fucking nightmare Logan and I are locked inside.

Ash was the sweetest and the responsible one of the group of friends, but now, in this new reality, he’s nothing like himself. He’s lashing out at people, having random hook-ups, anything to numb the pain. When Tansy approaches him to ask him to make a dying boy’s wish come true-to spend the day with him snowboarding he immediately turns her down. Nothing will make him climb back on his board. She’s hellbent on making him change his mind though. She doesn’t put up with his crap and she’s not afraid of him. Okay, maybe intimidated, not afraid. I loved how she gave it right back to him when he gave her attitude.

”What are you doing?
“Making Tea.”
“What if I don’t like tea?”
I look at him and shrug. “Then get your own drink. I like tea.”
He gives a surprised laugh, then watches silently as I rummage through the kitchen.

Ash fights his feelings hard. With all the turmoil in his life, even if he wanted to build something with her, it would never work. She’s too innocent and good. He’s too lost and angry. But the more he tries to ignore his true feelings, the more they keep bubbling up, threatening to overflow.

Everything about her is calling out to him. Not just her sexy lips, her adorable hair, and her sass. It’s her strength and her ability to see him and what he’s going through. She always seems to know what he’s feeling and how to make him feel better. But something isn’t adding up about her. What isn’t she telling him?

As I watch her walk away, I can’t help wondering about the secret I can see lurking in her eyes. Wondering what put them there. And wondering why I care so much more than I should.

The one thing that she couldn’t handle would be for him to look at her differently if she told him what she’s been through. He would never treat her like she’s normal ever again. Right now, they have a passion together that she's never experienced before and she doesn't want it to end. They seem to be getting closer and closer to giving in to their unspoken urges and there's nothing she wants more. When they finally caved...it. was. HOT.

They fall into...something together. Neither knows what it is, neither knows what they're doing, but all they know is they can't quit it. Their feelings did admittedly form fast and that was my biggest complaint. I wanted their getting to know each other phase to be longer. Did I still enjoy the hell out of it and devour every page? Most definitely-yes. This is also quite an angsty book with (in my eyes) not a solid HEA, but more like a HFN. (Happy for now). The future is uncertain for them but at the moment they're strong and happy.

And it was... Infinitely infinite.
This story goes beyond the huge, the epic and the incredible.
I honestly don't expect anything less from Tracy Wolff. This woman amazes me every time I read a book from her. She writes about life. About this journey we all cross. And the way she does it... the way she conjugates the complexity of life with the simplicity of the human feelings is infinitely superb...

It's...

Like fire skimming along my nerve endings.
Like razor blades skating through my veins.
Like coming unwound, my body shattering into a million pieces that can never be put back together.

I knew this story would be intense...
When I finished reading "Shredded"... I knew Ash was going to be one of the most deep and magic minds I would read about. He lost his parents... and almost lost his brother.
The ground beneath his feet was taken from him... The air he was breathing was becoming so thin, that he couldn't even think straight... But he feels everything... the weight of the world on his shoulders... the power of the responsibility over his brother...

I can't think, can't see, can't breathe. All I can do is feel.

And when he meets Tansy... those feelings are most powerful than ever... the intensity of this story comes with her too.
And once again, I have to say this... Tracy Wolff... WOW!
Because they're just perfect for eachother... Tansy is what Ash needs, and Ash is all Tansy could ask for.

I'm right there.
Going off the edge,
Falling.
Flying.
It's the best fucking feeling in the world.

I want to wreck her.

But what Tansy suffered in ten years of her life, and what Ash had been through since his parents died... makes them afraid... Afraid of this rush, this feeling that comes with it... the happiness they didn't feel for so long time..

Because it isn't... it can't be... I won't let it be... the beating of what's left of my shredded, shattered heart.

But what they feel towards each other is impossible to ignore...

Being touched by Ash is like being touched by the sun. I'm basking in his warmth even as he burns me alive.

The pleasure - unbelievable, indescribable - breaks over me in a rush I'm not expecting and could never have prepared for. I gasp, whimper, nearly scream with the unexpectedness of it. My head falls back and I close my eyes, but Ash growls my name.

And they surrender to what is one of the most beautiful, intense, breath-taking... stories I have read about.
Because is this what Tracy Wolff makes better...
She reminds us that we are not "alone" in this world.
Because what she writes about... is about the raw truth of life... with magical and perfect words...

I'm an unconditional and forever Tracy Wolff's fan.

5 Ash Lewis has Shattered my Soul Stars!

I absolutely loved everything about this story. It was a tale of tragedy and heartbreak, survival and acceptance, and the promise of beautiful beginnings! For those who may have read book 1 and found it on the NA/YA fence, I will say the Shattered has a much more powerful NA theme. It is written with heartbreaking angst, friend sharing wisdom, and the perfect combo of sweet/sensual romance.

Ash Lewis has lost everything. He is living day to day with an overwhelming sense of guilt. Once on top of world as a snowboarding god, he is now weighed down by the consequences of the tragedy that "Shattered" his life.

He is surrounded by his friends and he is doing everything he can to establish normalcy. His 14 yr old brother Logan doesn't want his kind of normal...he wants his brother back. Logan wants a chance to have a life, to be looked at as he once was...but Ash's guilt consumes them both.

The story takes a twist by introducing another life tragedy that has the Lewis brothers meeting a ray of life and pure goodness. There is this feisty pixie who challenges the both of them to "live" again.

Tansy knows more about wanting to live in the moment than anyone...her secret past is filled with hospitals and biopsies...a bubble surrounded by Cancer and its complications. Now in remission she is determined to get Ash Lewis on a mission. Little did both know that the dying wish of small boy would change the course of their lives forever!

This tale is so much more than a good romance. It is a story of family grief, guilt and pain...Two brothers who need each other. It is about a man who learns empathy is quite different from sympathy. The romance...it is in my opinion secondary, but still amazing. I loved how much Ash "needed" the touch of Tansy to calm...their intimacy was so much more than cliche' sex...it was well connected and beautifully written.

Ash found a release in being with Tansy that no one else could give him. She challenged him, he made him comfortable, she make him laugh and most importantly she made the hardness in his chest fade away. Most importantly she made him realize the time is precious, life is short, every second counts! Maybe they don't have a "forever" love...but if they have a perfect love NOW...then that is enough to last a lifetime!!!!

500 stars!!!

OMG. This book. Fuckity fuck. I need to find my words to express how I feel about this book. Without spoiling anything. This book is so many things. It is:

~ Gripping. It totally sucked me in. I stayed up until 4am reading it and when I woke up, it was the first thing I reached for. Prepared to be kidnapped by this book. I couldn't focus on anything else until I finished reading it.

~ Emotional. Holy shit was it emotional. From the beginning, Ash had my heart in the palm of his hands. I knew him from Shredded, so I was instantly connected to him. But Tansy got to me quickly too. I just... really felt for her. Arm yourself with tissues while reading this book. Seriously. A box. I almost couldn't read because my vision was blurred with tears.

~ Angsty. My stomach was in KNOTS the entire time I was reading. KNOTS. OMG. I almost wanted to put the book down because I was afraid of what was going to happen. But the instant I put it down, I needed to pick it back up because I couldn't stand NOT knowing what was going to happen. HOLY ANGST. Tracy Wolff nailed it in this book.

~ Sexy. Ash and Tansy have some fabulous chemistry. Off the charts. Loved the sex scenes!!!

~ Intense. I can't even tell you how much this book touched my heart. I seriously love this book. So hard.

Highly Recommend!!!!!!

Can't wait for more of this series!!!!

Thank you Tracy Wolff!!

I think if not for the woe is me hero I’d have really liked this book a lot more. He was really a buzzkill and I hated how selfish much of his behavior was. He let guilt rule his life so much that he never stopped to consider other people’s thoughts and feelings. He acted like he was the one in pain, suffering and unable to go on with life’s struggles. It was so sad to see him basically give up happiness altogether as some form of self torture all while those closest to him suffered. In his defense the hero is young at 21 and his world is altered forever when his parents are killed and he becomes the guardian of his younger brother who was paralyzed during the same accident that killed their parents. I get that his life was essentially stripped of the freedoms he once had but his ignorance and treatment of his brother was truly saddening at times. The heroine goes a long way in giving the hero a reality check but even when it came to her he thought he knew better and that she’d never really understand how hard his life is. Yet he never really tries to get to know her. He almost never learns how wrong he was and it was kinda painful watching him point fingers and not get that she too has suffered and just now is she able to live. After suffering from childhood cancer at 19 the heroine is finally cleared and in remission. She makes it her job to bring joy to a young boy through the Make a Wish Foundation. All this young boy wants is to meet his idol and the work it took to get Ash in agreement was maddening. I really wish if anything we got a better ending than the quick wrap up we got. I didn’t really get HEA vibes for these two and while I know the series goes on with other characters I would have appreciated more time of seeing them officially together.

I enjoyed Tracy Wolff's Shredded, but this one was even better. Ash is a fabulous character, and Tansy equally so. It's interesting to read about how orderly and somewhat uptight Ash used to be. Now, he's trying to recover from losing his parents in a car wreck...the same car wreck that paralyzed his fourteen year old brother and left him sole guardian. On the cusp of Olympic greatness, Ash loses his will to win, loses his love of snowboarding, and loses his interest in life. So he walks away from it all.

Now, Ash is trying to just get through the days, working at a ski rental shop and trying to forget what it's like to live as an adrenaline junkie. When Tansy approaches him one day asking to speak to him privately, he assumes the tiny, brightly haired chick is another groupie wanting to bad the famous snowboarder with the tragic past. And he couldn't be more wrong.

Tansy works for the Make-A-Wish foundation and is attmpting to get Ash to be a part of a terminal little boy's last wish. But Ash is stubborn and lives inside his own self pitying head...rightly so, but Tansy really needs him to overcome his issues.

What was great about this book is how opposite Tansy and Ash are. It's not shoved in your face, but it's very apparent, and while Tansy has to wheedle and beg Ash to do the right thing, it's more the fact that it's Tansy asking that convinces Ash. My heart broke for poor Ash and for his wheelchair bound brother. Ash is dealing with a lot of survivors guilt, and it turns out that he's actually detrimental to his brother's mental well being. Ash's obvious depression only keeps his brother down.

This story was in turns tearful and sad and then triumphant and joyful. It's about dealing with tragedy and learning to move on and enjoy what life still has to offer. It's about looking up and really seeing the people still left to you and reveling in the beauty of living.

A year ago, Ash Lewis' world came crashing down. He lost his parents, his little brother lost the use of his legs, his career is shattered.

Tansy Hampton has always been known as 'the cancer girl', now she's free of treatment and healthy, Tansy is trying to find her true identity.

Working for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Tansy wants to make dying Timmy's wish come true, but.... she needs the utterly broken Ash Lewis to do it.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

So, yeah, as you could probably see from my status updates, I wasn't exactly enjoying it.

For the most part, the book revolves around death, it made for a very angst and depressing read.

The Hero POV was REALLY angst for a good while, it was very much about how he can't cope... Can't cope with the grief, with the pity, the horror, the sorrow, the pain, the self loathing... I could go on. The volume of it - and the fact that I thought his brother had it a lot harder, made me feel a lot less for him than I probably should have.

There were in fact, quite a few things that stopped me from being won over by the Hero. But mostly, for the first half of the book he was either horny, pissed off or wallowing in self pity.

Then there's just the silly bits, things like her tummy flutters when he produces a self-deprecating grin, or she's apparently cute when she's freaked out. Huh? Another thing that bothered me was the amount of times the author wrote in cut off dialogue. As in, a character is speaking, the other cuts them off. This happened a lot. In one of the many arguments, it happened seventeen times.

The light in the darkness? Tansy. Despite the self-deprecating, which she was fond of, and her naivety, we were told she was a fighter. She could be feisty and brave. Also fun and quirky.

Who would I recommend it to? MAJOR fans of the regular kind of New Adult, who don't get as peeved off as I do... no-one else.

I received an advance copy of Shattered from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The story continues Grace’s journey through a world of magic, war, and shifting alliances, and I enjoyed diving back into the drama and emotional stakes. While a few parts felt slower than others, the characters and twists kept me invested throughout. It’s a solid addition to the series that fans will appreciate.

Tracy Wolff blew me away with Shattered. Her extraordinary ability to bring such a realistic depiction of life tragedies while masterfully capturing the pure essence of the human heart. Why did that blow me away, well, Wolff also manages to bring us an extreme sport, action-packed, and romantic. Shattered is story telling at its best!

Shattered is the perfect name for this story. Ash Lewis is a snowboarder whose life was forever changed when his parents died in a car crash, leaving him the guardian of his now paralyzed brother. Guilty and racked with loss, Ash abandons his boarding passion.

Tansy Hampton is a cancer survivor. Personally, understand the loss of your childhood due to illness. Tansy now works for the Make-A-Wish Foundation to give those terminally ill children their dreams. Tansy's first assignment is to convince Ash Lewis to grant a child his dying wish...to see Ash, his hero, snowboard in person

The story beautifully reveals the two difficult journeys of two amazing children. One child is dealing with his own mortality, losing the battle with cancer. The other child is dealing with being paralyzed and the loss of his parents. Wolff captures the heartache but also the amazing strength of each child's marvelous fortitude.

Wolff tackles so many intensely charged situations but still holds true to the extreme sport theme. She provides a rocky and difficult romance that will also touch your heart and keep you invested till the very end.

You can't help but be moved by this emotionally jarring, extremely touching story. I would swear that Wolff has personal experience in similar circumstances to bring such realism to her characters' plights. This is a must-read!!!

I also recommend that if you ever have the opportunity to participate with the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the Ronald McDonald Foundation, you take it. It is a life-altering experience.

I received this ARC copy of Shattered from Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept in exchange for an honest review. This book is set for publication on May 20, 2014.

If you loved Shredded, then you are going to LOVE Shattered! Not to be shallow, but let’s get real. That cover! HOLY HOTNESS!!!! Ash is one sexy dude! Ok, ok back to the book.
When we finished Shredded we found out that Ash’s family was involved in a terrible car crash. His parents were killed and his little brother was left paralyzed. He is trying so hard to be mom, dad and big brother to Logan, that he completely loses himself. He’s definitely not the Ash we met and loved in Shredded. He quit snowboarding, spends all of his time worrying about his brother and working to pay hospital bills! Heartbreaking, right?
Enter Tansy. Another heartbreaking story. Tansy has spent the last 10 years battling for her life. She’s had cancer for over half of her life and she is finally in remission! She’s gotten a job with the Make-A-Wish foundation and she’s on her first assignment! Little does she know that this assignment is going to change her life forever!
I loved Tansy and Ash!!!! They are so precious and I was swooning from the get go. A lot of people have said that this is just another sad story, and well it is, but it is also so much more than that. Books are about real life and terrible things happen in real life. There were really sad times in this book, but it just made the happy times that much better.

Tansy is a cancer patient that has been in remission for 7 weeks and working for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Tansy's 1st assignment is to make Timmy's wish come true. Timmy's wish is to spend 3 days with Ash Lewis watching him snowboard.

Ash has not snowboarded since his parents were killed and his brother Logan was paralyzed. And Ash does not plan on going back to snowboarding, ever.

Tansy finds Ash at the resort selling equipment for the lodge and asks him if he has time to “talk”, Ash always has time to “talk” to a pretty girl.

When it becomes clear that Tansy's idea of TALK and Ash's idea of TALK are 2 entirely different things they actually do have to TALK. Tansy asks Ash if he can make Timmy's wish come true before Timmy's cancer kills him. His answer was NO.

Logan and all of Ash's friends trick him into helping Timmy. While on the trip Ash and Tansy become close and start to really enjoy each others company. Tansy admits to Ash that her experience with boys is non-existent and Ash clears the air about the entire mix up of there TALK and there mix up again on the Patio. Those mixups had Tansy thinking Ash was not interested in a more sexual relationship with her. Tansy asks her sister for advice and that goes terribly wrong for Tansy and leaves her embarrassed in front of Ash.

Logan and Ash fight a lot about the accident and Ash's treatment and attitude towards his brothers paralysis. Tansy has a scare that her cancer might have returned and because she did not tell anyone that she was in remission it blindsides Ash. Ash of course freaks out.

Once back in Park City Ash and Logan try to work out the problems and fights they were having over the accident and the predicament it left them in . Ash and Tansy try to work out a relationship and find out if Tansy has cancer again or if it is just a virus of some kind that will clear up.

I loved Tansy. She is going through different phases to see what works for her. Trying on different personalities to match her clothes that day. And seeing which one feels right to her. She is trying to find herself. What I find is that she is spunky, sweet, courageous, strong, daring, curious......

The relationship between Ash and Tansy I felt worked pretty well. They agreed to keep it casual but where still able to maintain a nice friendship. Ash helps Tansy come out of her shell a little more and try new things, while Tansy helps to calm Ash. She helps him focus and understand his brother a little more also.

Happy Reading!

I loved Tansy, "I slam my hands against his chest, push him firmly away. "Yes, talk. Talk. Not screw." Good grief Ash has some anger issues, "who are you?" He demands, as I reach into the freezer and grab a bag of frozen vegetables. "Miss Polly Sunshine? I nearly hit you and you're getting ice for my hand?" He's so damn honest, "it's true," I tell her after licking my tongue against the sensitive spot, taking away the sting. "If you'd been sober, I would have been more than happy to have you all over my di**, with whatever portion of your anatomy you wanted to put there." With Tansy you see a caring side of him that I loved, "what is it, baby? What do you need?" He holds me tight, his strong arms around my shoulders and waist the most comforting thing I've ever felt." I loved this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via netgalley for a honest review.

Still loving this series!!! The bond of friendship between these characters makes this series so unique. And snowboarders?? Can't recall any other series that has these adrenaline junkies as characters and this makes the book so much more interesting!!!

Ash's story was an emotional one and I really enjoyed it. Loved the addition of Timmy although I shed a few tears for him.

I'm so curious about what is going to happen between Luc and Cam. Will they??? Not sure I want them to. Cam is my least fave and I want Luc to have his own fairytale romance and not be a second choice.

I had request the second book at the same time as the first one. I've since then read the first one and didn't like it, but I'm reviewing this as an obligation.

To start it off, I didn't care for Ash. I care for none of these characters really, as they're just copies of Z and Ophelia, whom I didn't like either.

Ash lost everything. Lost his parents, lost his chance at the Olympics. The only thing left for him is survivor's guilt and his brother Logan who was in the same accident that took his parents. He is emotionless, cares for nothing, and drinks and fucks his pain away, just like Z (Who for some reason doesn't have a name, but this isn't about him.)

Tansy is a cancer survivor and is obsessed with Ash, which I hated. Making the female characters so obsessed with the love interest so early on in their relationship, and at times even before they're together, is never a good thing to me. They know nothing about the MC and are always focusing on their physical appearance, which to me is incredibly shallow and bad. Tansy spends a lot of the time fantasizing about Ash long before they were together, which was creepy to me. It got to a point where she would think he did things with her in mind yet he didn't know her at all, which is really creepy

It's likewise for the MC, as Ash does, where he was once lacking in intimacy with his partners, he gives comfort to Tansy even before knowing her name. He treats her differently than the women he picks up for a one night stand.

Tansy approaches Ash with the request to talk, which he took as her wanting to have sex with him. I don't feel that Tansy should've been as offended as she was since she didn't explain what she wanted to talk to him about, just expected that Ash would go somewhere private just to talk to a girl he's never met before. If she had addressed him in a professional manner, as she later reveals she works with Make-A-Wish and needed to talk to Ash about it, he wouldn't have taken her leering at him -damn near drooling over him- as a come on and her requesting to talk with him as a euphemism.

But Tansy quickly loses her crushing school girl persona and gets professional, telling Ash that shes there to request he come and grant the wish of a fan of his, 13 year old Timmy, who wants to watch him snowboard. For personal reasons, Ash can't do this. And instead of being understanding and empathetic Tansy acts like Ash is being a douchebag and refusing to fill the request just because, which irritated me.

The whole story is spent with Ash being corralled into granting Timmy's dying wish and him and Tansy falling into lust, then love with each other along the way.

Things I didn't like:

* Insta-attraction between Ash and Tansy. It was effortless for them to get together, as Tansy obsessed about Ash long before they met, and Ash after one confrontation was hooked on Tansy (that sounds like a drug name, Tansy's name is really lacking). He can't stop thinking about how beautiful she was, and her attributes that he found sexy, even though he's been with equally and even more attractive women, yet they never stuck to him like Tansy did.

* There's no real time line. I don't know why but I had it in my mind that Logan was four and nearly got whiplash doing a double take at Logan cursing. There's no timeline between the end of the first book and the beginning of the second one, no clear timeline between when the accident happened and the first chapter began. It makes the story feel all over the place and very vague, and also makes Tansy and Ash's 'love' feel rushed since it happens so fast, and also not real, that it's more based on lust since since their first conversation that's all that's been on their minds about the other person, and earlier than that meeting for Tansy.

*Tansy and Ash felt no different than Z and Ophelia. They all have tragic pasts which they don't really talk about with each other, fall in love quickly, and have sex without knowing anything about their intended (Z bets he can have sex with Ophelia within a week of meeting her and does, and Ash proposes that he'll see Timmy if he can fuck Tansy). They're both quick to toss out those I love yous and quick to have sex with one another, all the while not knowing each other or going on dates.

*Tansy can't stay professional long enough to get through a conversation. (for instance Logan calls her under the guise of being Ash's manager and is later revealed it was Logan, not a manager), even has a few minutes of silence because she's fantasizing about him. That's very awkward.

*Ash gets angry that people are telling him what to do and not understanding that he can't do it because of guilt and obligations that he's been told aren't going to be a problem so that he can go fulfill Timmy's wish. So he hits a wall. A space of wall a foot away from Tansy's head. Yet she still wants to be with him. Why?

* Tansy doesn't like being called nice. Her job is one of the nicest most selfless type of jobs, yet she doesn't want to be considered nice. The reason? She's trying to seduce Ash on looks alone. She is dressed, as she called it, like a "punk rock hooker." and is trying to get Ash's attention.

* Tansy is very unprofessional and I feel should quit her job. She does nothing professional. She doesn't act professional nor dress it. She can't go one meeting without fantasizing about Ash and acting unprofessional

* apparently extensional crises are unattractive. Never knew someone thought like that.

* Ash wanted Tansy to have sex with him in order to fulfill Timmy's dying wish. Instead of acting professionally and declining and telling Timmy that his idol won't do it (because he's a selfish slimball who wanted to sleep with her in order to feel obligated to go slide down a mountain) , Tansy agrees. Fucking quit your job, Tansy. She felt that she would never have a chance to sleep with a guy, and that it was no issue to take his offer so that she can fulfill her first assignment for her job. This really annoyed me, that she has no self esteem to not sleep with a complete stranger who makes a deal to have sex with her in exchange for fulfilling a kids dying wish. That she wasn't thinking clearly about it and how she shouldn't accept the offer because she works for the foundation and is not a hooker, and was instead upset that Ash didn't find her attractive. Why???

* Her self confidence existed only because Ash found her attractive. If Tansy wanted to find herself she shouldn't have started by trying to define herself and build herself around some stranger's ideals and what appeals to them. That isn't trying to find yourself, that's creating another person so someone could appeal to them. That is a fake person, not one's true self.

* In the end Tansy never found herself. She found who Ash wanted and so became that person. She created herself in his preferred image and Ash finally found the magical vag that would make everything all better, despite his close friends having told him the same things Tansy told him.

absolutely heartbreaking yet endearing.

I was devastated knowing Ash of all people had to go through something so traumatic and sad. He’s such a happy going, fun and good guy. Tragedy hit him hard and racked him with guilt. Turned him into something unrecognizable. This story broke my heart. Then when Tansy came along, I could feel her distress and pain and I thought this book is going to crush my soul. I’m glad we get a happy ending of sorts, and I am curious what book three will bring us. Hopefully Cam and Luc finally do something or at least talk. 😂

5 snow sports loving, adrenaline junkie, heartwarming stars!

Absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED it! Total Pages for the ebook should be 299 pgs (See Amazon listing), not 176.

Amazingly well-written action-adventure, romantic, New Adult/Adult contemporary romance with some erotic scenes. Also a tearjerker, funny, and inspiring!

Location: Summertime in Salt Lake City & the Andes, Chile

Ash Lewis is 21, and a year ago, had been on his way to being a multi-medal winning X Games snowboarder and 2014 Sochi athlete. He’s a bit famous and all his best friends are also competitive snowboarders. His parents and younger brother Logan, also a snowboarder, were on their way to see him in competition when tragedy struck. His parents were killed in an auto accident and Logan became paralyzed from the waist down. Logan will never snowboard again. Since that time, Ash hasn’t snowboarded at all, he walked away from the X-Games and Winter Olympics, summer has arrived, and he’s gotten a job at the resort with benefits to take care of Logan, and has been overseeing Logan’s P.T. and O.T. He’s always been a good guy and disciplined and goal-oriented and now without snowboarding, he feels a bit lost. He still has the it factor of being a good-looking famous snowboarder however, so he has a lot of one-F-Stands with random snowbunnies.

So when a cute petite girl with pink pixie hair and gorgeous big eyes and plush lips approaches him wanting to “talk” to him privately at the rental shop, he is excited by her, she looks like a pixie punk rocker and his mind immediately goes to the gutter, getting it on with her in the supply closet or a changing room today would improve his outlook immensely. But Tansy isn’t what she looks like, she really does want to talk to him.

Tansy is 19 going on 20 y.o., and 7 months ago, was told that her rhabdomyosarcoma was miraculously in Remission. Given that she had been pre-occupied with fighting to live for most of the past 10 years, she hasn’t had the normal experiences that a young adult might have; such as dating, having a boyfriend, and losing her V-card. She has experiences of a different kind, the kinds of things most 19 year olds never have. She is still trying to figure out who she is now that she’s going to have a life, and weekly she dyes her short hair a different color and dresses different. Her younger sister, 17, Anna, is pretty, taller and heavier (Tansy still has a ways to go in gaining weight and not looking so frail) and has had ALL those experiences and is Tansy’s rock, comic relief and support system. Anna is a great secondary character and dialogue with Anna produced the most laughs.

When Ash finally gets his tongue out of Tansy’s startled mouth, she tells him what she wanted to talk to him about. Tansy works for the Make-A-Wish foundation, and she is trying to fulfill a dying 13-y.o.’s wish to meet Ash Lewis and watch him snowboard before he dies. Something about going to a ski and snowboard camp in Oregon for a 3 day trip. After Ash turns her down and tells her he can’t do it, she gives him her business card. But Tansy will not give up and Logan and Z (his best friend and the MC of book #1 Shredded), once they find out about it, pressure Ash to go.

This is a fast-paced novel told in dual POV’s and the dialogue is entertaining and realistic. There are a lot of feelings and drama between Logan and Ash (guilt much? angry much? hostility much?), and a bit of angst on the part of Tansy. Both main characters are extremely likeable and sympathetic. There is a lot of erotic tension between Ash and Tansy, and their love scenes were detailed and steamy!

I laughed, got very teary-eyed, and breathed a huge sigh of relief at about the 50% mark. Not everything goes according to plan, and at one point I thought someone was going to die. The details are told quite realistically and the terminology was fairly accurate. There is a great epilogue and the ending was very satisfying.

Although the main characters in this story are young, their thoughts and feelings and difficult life situations are those of Adults and they are dealing with situations that are very difficult. So I would classify this as an adult contemporary romance with sports and erotica also. I love this series and want to read them all! Reading about the snowboarding scenes helped satisfy my jonesin’ for the snow in summer, the author really caught the adrenaline rush and addiction of it all perfectly.

Recommended for: Contemporary Romance Sports/Action/Erotica lovers and New Adult romance lovers.

Five Star Fabulous follow up!

Ms. Wolff has provided an incredible follow up to her first book "Shredded" in the extreme risk series. Can "Shattered" be read as a stand alone? Yes, it can ; however I do recommend reading "Shredded" first since the first book gives you backround history on all of the characters , but especially gives you a good look at who Ash Lucas really was before tragedy strikes!
Ash pre-tragedy was a rising snowboard competitor top of his field with an eye on the next Olympics , solid , reliable, fun loving, driven, goal oriented friend, he is the friend who was there for everyone, especially his buddy Z .

Ash's Olympic dream ends the day he looses his parents in a car accident and finds himself guardian to his 14 year old brother Logan, his brother Logan who loved snowboarding as much as him, who had his own Olympic aspirations. Who now is paralyzed. Ash's career did not end because of Logan, but because of Ash's own guilt, guilt that his parents died coming to see him perform, guilt because his brother is now paralyzed because he was coming also, Los and lots of guilt that he lays on himself! Ash gave up snowboarding sing the excuse that he needs to be their for his brother. It's too dangerous, his consent worry for Logan, bu not snowboarding is eating away at his soul, his brother knows it , he sees it , Ash's freinds see it but how to get him to move on ,get back on the slopes and forgve himself for something that was not his fault!

Enter Tansy, a nineteen year old cancer patient " survivor" finally after ten years in full remission ! Tansy works for the make a wish foundation and her first case is for a 14 year old boy Timmy who loves Ash, major hero worship and he wants as his wish to spend a day with Ash snowboarding. Since, ash has not answered an of her e- mails , she takes herself to his job for a face to ace request, which goes sideways because the Ash who in the past would of taken her request to talk as just that and not a snow bunny come on, never mind in the past would have passed on the come on being more the relationship type, well he makes the assumption hat Tansy is just another snow bunny and though he tempts Tansy the breaks are put on.
Ash is suprised to discover he misread the situation and although he would love to help her fufill Timmy's wish , he shoots Tansy down , he does not snowboard anymore and he is adamant about it! Luckily for Timmy , Ash has a brother and freinds who want the old Ash back and the first step in that Journey is getting him back on the slopes!

The addition of Tansy character s so much more than a romance relationship, she becomes , a challenge, a sounding board and the heater that starts melting the hardness that has overtaken Ash and in turn Ash becomes Tansy's chance at being more than cancer girl, she gets to be an attractive wanted women!

The story is a journey, not of one but many, romance, growth, friendship and future! I stressed for them, I cried, I laughed and I finally breathed a sigh of relief for them!

Great series great author, can not wait for the nex one!

I received this ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This one is FOR SURE a tearjerker, y'all!!! Unless, of course, you have no heart at all... ;)

The gist: Tansy is a cancer survivor and she's all about living life to the fullest and finding the positive in everything. Ash is a professional snowboarder who has just had his world flip upside down. His parents were killed and his brother was paralyzed in a car accident on their way to watch Ash compete. Tansy is working for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and a cancer patient wants to meet Ash and watch him snowboard in person. The trip is arranged and the whole gang goes to make a dying boy's final wish happen. Ash and Tansy fall in love along the way.

So, in the spirit of Tansy, I'll start with what I LOVED about this story. The characters are great! You can't NOT love them. Tansy is so full of life and spunk and she just wants to be seen as a regular girl as opposed to a cancer patient/survivor. Ash is the 'nice guy' (We first met him in book one in the Extreme Risk series, Shredded.) You can't help but love Ash. He is always taking care of everyone around him and after his parents die and his brother is paralyzed, he feels totally out of control and lost and guilty and grief stricken. You just want to cry for him. (Well, I did anyway... A LOT!)

I LOVED how the whole issue or cancer and death and tragedy was dealt with. Yeah, there was the whole bit about how the survivors handle (or don't) the loss of a loved one. But there's also the perspective of the cancer survivor and how they just want to be seen as a regular human being instead of treated as thought they're made of glass. The same was true for Ash's brother and his paralysis. I never really put much thought into how the person who is suddenly wheelchair bound copes (or doesn't) with their circumstances. Well, in more than a 'woe is me!' kind of way anyway...

I loved the whole bit about Make-A-Wish and helping the little boy get his dream of spending time with Ash. You hear about those stories on the news and they bring a tear to your eye (or they do mine anyway...), but I never really thought much about how the celebrities (or whomever) are affected when they get involved with a wish. Lots of tears were shed over the whole wish aspect of this story!

Now on to what drove me crazy...

I've come to realize (after 5 of her books...) that it's just Ms. Wolff's style to reiterate certain details or feelings. BUT, that little habit annoys the piss outta me!!! I don't even know how many times Ash thought about how Tansy smelled and tasted like vanilla and brown sugar. And I'm curious about how the fuck that's even possible... Also, I get that Tansy wants to be seen as a normal girl and she's battled cancer for ten years. I get it because it was repeated about a gazillion times. I also get that Ash feels guilty about the car accident since they were coming to see him compete and I get that he feels guilt about snowboarding now. It's impossible NOT to get it when it's driven like a nail in a coffin...

Overall, I did really enjoy this story, despite my grievances. It moved me and ANY book that causes real life tears or gut clenching is a good one, in my opinion!

Bittersweet and edgy with sharp jagged shards, Shattered by Tracy Wolff is the journey of one confident and accomplished, snowboarding “legend” who is imploding from within over self-manifested guilt, true grief and overwhelming responsibility. Ash feels responsible for the death of his parents and the paralyzing injuries his young brother must deal with for the rest of his life. Tansy is a cancer survivor and an advocate for the “Make A Wish Foundation” on a mission to grant a dying boy his wish to meet his biggest hero, Ash Lewis, but “that” Ash is gone, a shell of himself. Gone is the level-headed, fearless man who took life by the horns and reveled in its rewards. In its place is a man so lost in his own world of pain that he fails to see what he is doing to those around him.

Strong to a fault, Tansy is as determined to see her mission through as Ash is to denying his worthiness of adoration from anyone. But there are sparks that ignite between these two that may be just what Ash needs to rejoin the world and the friends he left behind. Will Tansy convince Ash that everything is not about him, that he is alive and has so much yet to give? There are people who need him, the “him” he is keeping locked away, will Ash learn to open his heart and let go of the past?

My hat is off to Tracy Wolff, who has created a world filled with heart, humor, turmoil and second chances. She tells a tale of love, loss and misguided blame and the pain it causes everyone. Ash is a wonderful character, the change in him is devastating to see, having met him in book one of this amazing series. Tansy is a breath of fresh air, innocent, damaged, but still living life to the fullest in her own quirky way. Ms. Wolff has tackled extremely emotional topics with heart, as she reveals the strength of two boys, each facing a journey that no child should have to face and makes them human, alive and shining brilliantly, if given the chance. I laughed, I cried and I got angry at how unfair life can be. For an author to so completely immerse me in her world, hanging on every word and scene, is the sign of wonderful storytelling. Tracy Wolff has raised her own bar another notch higher.

After reading Shredded I was instantly interested in reading about Ash and how he was going to survive what happened to his family. This book picks up about six months after the ending of Z's book, and Ash is lost. He has given up snowboarding because of the extreme guilt he holds. He believes that because he loved snowboarding so much it was his fault his parents and brother were driving up to see him. Ash's guilt was a huge part of this book and it took a certain someone to snap him out of it.

Tansy has just kicked cancers ass and she's in remission from a certain type of cancer that she really should not have survived. For the first time she can be just Tansy and not that cancer girl to everyone. Her first assignment for her Make A Wish job is to get Ash to agree to snowboard for a little boy, Timmy, whose wish is to spend a few days watching him snowboard. What Tansy is not prepared for is for him to adamantly deny even thinking of doing this. There instant attraction makes things a little awkward for her but she will do anything to get this for Timmy.

Friends and family end up pushing these two together and making Timmy's wish become more than he could have ever wanted. But when Ash gets a taste of snowboarding and Tansy again he knows their going to be even harder to give up than he originally thought. He knows that snowboarding and taking risks can't be apart of his life right now and neither can Tansy he needs to focus on his brother and doesn't have time for anything else.

I absolutely enjoyed this book and I loved that we still got to see Z and Ophelia. Ash was such a different person since the first book and I loved when we got to see glimpses of the old him. Tansy was great and she was everything Ash needed to see what was ahead for him not what he and his brother lost. I want Luke to meet someone amazing and finally get over Cam, because I really just have not connected with her. But I sense that they might be getting their own story soon, and all I have to say is she better deserve him!

Shattered was really an emotional book that tore at my heart strings the whole way through. After reading Shredded, I really didn't think I could like this one as much. Truthfully I loved it as much and even a little bit more. Ash and Tansy both had so much to deal with and it was wonderful to see each of them taking care of each other.

Ash was left to deal with his parents dying in a car accident at the end of the first book. His brother was in a coma and came out of it paralyzed. It was very difficult to see a 14 year old boy have to deal with two horrible life changes all at once. He was a brave, determined character and you definitely route for his acceptance and recovery. Ash was only 21 years old when his parents were killed and he had taken guardianship of his brother and his protectiveness and loyalty to his brother were admirable. It was very understandable that he would not have time for any other relationships in his life but I'm glad that he let the "good guy" in him come through after getting to know Tansy. Tansy survived a very rare form of cancer that she fought for most of her life. She was a strong character but it was sweet to witness her insecurities along the way too. It was believable how she would be after an experience like that.

I loved seeing Cam, Luc, Z and Ophelia throughout the whole book supporting Ash and instantly taking Tansy in as one of them. It was a beautifully written book and I won't say more but I love the setting and how they helped someone else together. I hope that Luc or Cam's story (maybe together?) will be next!

I loved Ash and I loved Tansy just not sure how I felt about them together. At first I felt their chemistry, but then I didn’t.

There was a lot of focus on Ash’s brother, Logan, and how great Ash was in taking care of him. I loved Logan. I loved how he tricked Ash into participating in the Make-A-Wish.
The premise was great, I just feel like some parts fell flat for me. I loved how Ash and Tansy first met. Everything for a great romance was there in the beginning of the story. It was just later that I lost the connection. It felt forced. Looking back I think it had to do with Ash’s attitude in the first half of the book. Ash was angry, complaining or horny. I understood his pain and struggles of losing his parents and having to take care of his brother very early on. However, after a few chapters, I wished he would have stopped the self-pity. A martyr. He had wonderful people around him but always felt he had to do it himself. Well his anger and frustration got old. Z and Ophelia had their issues in Shredded, but it was easier to connect with them and I felt their connection throughout the book. Z had his issues, but I felt that he worked through them and nothing was forced. I was hoping for the same with Ash.

I love Tracy Wolff. This one just did not work for me.

Thanks for a free read to review for Wicked Reads.
Aptly named book with a sexy snow boy on the front. I absolutely love this series. This was the second in the series about a group of snowboarders so intertwined that they're almost family. The main character Ash Lewis lost his parents to an automobile accident at the end of the last book at the opening of the Olympic trials. Usually Ash is the levelheaded one of the group but now he is dealing with an emotional pain he can barely handle. Left with only his surviving brother who was paralyzed in the crash. This book had really cute and creative one liners that had me laughing out loud and I absolutely loved the part where Tansy's mom had to drag her dad out of the room so Ash could talk to Tansy. This was also a serious read about how people battle cancer and important stuff dealing with Make A Wish Foundation. Very nice read and emotional at times, but well written. I loved it and and I cannot wait for the next in the series. Thanks so much for an copy. Overall entertainment is five fabulous stars.

This series is terrific! Book two is amazing, the heart and the angst wrapped up with yummy snowmen, Ash, Luc and Z! Let me say at the top that I have never snowboarded but I have watched the Olympics and x games, it's a great sport but I was never at a disadvantage by not having snowboarded. I love that these characters are realistic. Tansy has be sick most of her life and tries to live a normal life for a change. Ash has a lot on his plate, caring for Logan his paralyzed brother and the guilt he carries with him because of that along with playing the parent since their parents had died in the crash that claimed the use of Logan's legs. I love that Tansy keeps her past as a cancer patient to herself as she brings unique perspective to her job at the Make A Wish Foundation and to Ash's new role as caregiver and parent to his teenage brother. I truly loved this girl who brilliantly assessed the circumstances of Ash's new normal and understood Logan's perspective on his disability. This book has sacrifices, fun, humor, tears, heartache and happiness, this author made me experience all this by her words, quite an accomplishment! I would absolutely love to read the rest of her books, and can't wait for the next in this series!

OMG I loved this book. Dual POV.
Tracy Wolff established each character with their own realistic and tragic story. A page turner with grounded plots that I could not put this books down. This book could be a standalone as I did not (yet) read Z and Ophelia's story in Shredded and felt the honest loyal/dependable/solid friendship.

Ash is an adrenaline junkie and guilt ridden snowboarder. He gives up his career in snowboarding to care for his brother who was left in a wheelchair from a tragic accident that took both of their parents.

Tansy is a survivor. A 10 year cancer survivor. Searching to find herself and no longer be the "cancer girl" she meets Ash. This isn't the cliche sex story. Oh but it has it's moments . . . Tansy has her own secrets and from her own experiences knows just what to say to take the weight of the world from Ash. She is innocent enough to take away his ache.

He's use to his snow bunnies not innocent girls with crazy hair and eyes and works for Make-A-Wish.

She's use to being smothered by family not hot snowboarders that make her feel . . . . Beautiful?
