Of course, other genres float my boat as well; Sci-Fi, Thrillers, pretty much any Dark Fiction, but Horror is what I call home.
My first novel, Horror in the Woods, was released on in May 2017, and the second, The Demonic, on the the following July hitting multiple best seller lists. Since then, I have authored a number of horror novels that have terrified fans for the past few years.

Don't be put off by the naff title, these four stories were very good. If you enjoy psychological horror then this is the book for you, with its emphasis on supernatural monsters hell bent on terrorising the living. The violence is gory without being too graphic, but the fear factor accentuates each creepy tale. I really enjoyed this book, a spooky read from the first to the last page. A prelude to Halloween 🎃!
This book contains four scary stories that should be read with the light on at night!!!
Firstly, we have a story about “Lighthouse”. John is coerced to go and stay at a lighthouse with his old friend/business associate. Benji has wanted to explore this lighthouse for ages. The current owner is due to flatten the lot, including the outbuildings too for the land he needs. Mr Barrow agrees for Benji to make a record/pictures, etc, for historical means on one condition that John goes with him and keeps an eye out on Benji so that nothing is broken or changed.
This story really got under my skin and unnerved me with the spooky creepiness of it. There is a scene in this story that is so, gory and horrific and shockingly horrific …. Listen to what your gut says. 1st lesson.
Secondly, we have “Closer” this story is about a young couple they are Mia and Toby. Toby tends to work away a lot due to his job, and since his promotion, he has worked away even more. Anyway, Toby is back from his receipt trip. Mia has missed him so much. After a very passionate night, the curtains have parted a little, so Toby get’s up to close the window. When he looks out, he sees a person just standing at the end of the street, not moving at all just standing there. Thinking nothing of it, they go back to bed.
This story really freaked me out because every time they spotted this person, as you can imagine, he got closer. It's very creepy and disturbing!!!
Thirdly we have “The Attic” a story about Marc who is looking for a rental property, this is due to his new contact with work he needs to find somewhere at the other end of the country. He views a property and likes it and accepts the rental for a six-month period. The house is just right for him as he moves in and settles in all is good. Until he starts hearing unusual noises and banging. They are coming from the attic, it seems.
I can say that this made me on night as I was going to bed. I couldn’t settle because I was listening to my attic because of this story arrghhhh. I didn’t sleep well, lol 🤣
Lastly, we have the “Retreat” This story is about a young lady called Annie who has decided to take a break, this is due to her career. It takes over so much of her time that she doesn’t have any spare time to relax and wind down. She needs to change her life it can’t continue. She finds a fantastic place in the middle of the countryside etc. It’s a modernised cabin, with an old phone on the wall for communication. This is her break away to relax.
Well, you can imagine, don’t stay there, you know you watch films etc right ….. but she stays there. I didn’t expect the outcome of this story …… loved it!!!
I couldn’t put this book down, cracking read from the first page to the very last loved it. Did I say that already? lol !!! (This book had me looking out of my curtains at night, listening to my attic for creaking noises and looking into the shadows, expecting something to jump out and scare the bejesus out of me !!! Arrrghhhh, running away now!!! I managed to survive Pages 141 – 145. Oh, deary me. Remind me never to stay in a log cabin, especially in a remote place!!!!
Really enjoyed this collection of short stories. So much tension and anticipation in each of the stories. I enjoyed the build up and suspense. Nice mix of tension, actual action and some gore too. Perfect for spooky season! This is the first book of Lee Mountford's that I have read, but it won't be the last! 'Closer' and 'The Retreat' really stood out to me.
Four really scary stories which will give you nightmares! John has a bad feeling about exploring a lighthouse and realises that he should have trusted his instincts. A lady craves solitude until she realises that something lurks in the place where she is staying. A man is disturbed by strange happenings in his attic. Horror buffs will love this book. I always look forward to Lee's books as they give me an adrenaline rush.
The book was okay I feel like a little of stories were unfinished or could have been explained better. The first story I felt was the best out of the four
Three out of the four stories are quite similar in vein, so quite repetitive descriptions, etc. Saying that though, I did really enjoy all the stories- they were very creepy and atmospheric. More gory than I thought they were going to be too. One thing to take away - you're never quite safe wherever you go 😂.
This author is always a guaranteed great read. Starting from the first story, the scares never let up. I’m usually not a fan of short stories because I like in depth books that I can immerse myself in but this author has so much skill, each story feels totally complete and not short at all. Eagerly anticipating the next book!!
Totally enjoyed. The creep factor is definitely there. Some stories I did enjoy alittle more than others but all in all good read. I received this as an ARC and voluntarily choose to reveiw. I know I'm so late in my review Apparently I had started reading but just stop for some reason? I don't know so News years I started to read from the start.
Mountford has the skill to take the everyday and average person and situation and turn them into absolutely terrifying, ongoing, and mostly fatal encounters. Well written and unfortunately very scary!
It's was pretty creepy and I did like that all the stories had something in common and it all came together at the end but it wasn't super scary. Although I wouldn't want to be one of the poor souls who gets chosen.

With collections of short stories, I don't usually end up enjoying all of them, but I loved all four in this! Talk about unsettling - I don't ever want to go near an attic ever again 😂
