Domestic violence regularly receives media coverage, but abuse against men by women is rarely mentioned. This contemporary novel tells the story of Alfred, Tom and Gordon - strangers sharing a terrible secret. They are being abused by their wives. The book also examines abuse against women and the increasingly common issue of someone experiencing violence because their partner has dementia.
'I wept many times reading Men Cry Alone. It is a profoundly moving novel ... a compulsive read.' Erin Pizzey. In 1971, Erin Pizzey opened the world's first shelter for battered women.
'A sensitive and touching portrayal of the far-reaching effects that dementia can have within a marriage.' Alzheimer Scotland.
I saw this book on the Libby app through my local library and had never heard of it, but I decided to read it as domestic abuse towards men has been something I have recently become more aware of. I was shocked to see that this book has so few reviews! It is a very well written book that follows the stories of three different men and how domestic abuse can present in different ways. It was a really difficult read because it was so heartbreaking, but it shares such an important message and it gives a great insight into how men may feel in these situations, it really brings the issue to life. It is a really great book for awareness, I would recommend that everyone reads this.
