The Guardians #2

Alpha's Guardian Angel

Rate this book
Liam Holstin no longer expects to find his mate. After seven years, it's unlikely that she's out there. He was ready to take a Guardian as his mate, but he lost the woman he wanted to another Alpha. Now he must decide if he wants to take a mate that isn't worthy to be his Luna or continue running the pack alone. Rather than deal with his Luna issue, he buries himself in finding the Banished Beta, Eli Gunnar. The man that killed his mother. He will hunt him down and this time, Eli will not get away. Angel Bennis got her wolf on her 10th birthday when most werewolves get their wolves. However, her parents realized that her wolf was a Guardian. Rather than allow their daughter to be enslaved by their Alpha and forced to reject her mate to remain in the pack as the Alpha's protector, they chose to become rogue. After 6 years on the run, her family was attacked by vampires and both of her parents were killed. When the vampires realize she is a Guardian, they take her as a gift for the vampire prince. There she is kept as a blood bag for 7 long years. She is only able to escape when hunters raid the vampire's coven. The hunters mistake her for human and she takes the opportunity to escape. On the run, she crosses into Liam's territory. Exhausted and near death, she finds that her mate is the Alpha of the pack. But she's been running from Alphas her entire life to avoid being forced into a bond she doesn't want. When the vampires come for Angel, will Liam be able to convince her that she is everything he has ever wanted in a mate or lose her forever.

A very good sequel to Book #1 in this series.

We were introduced to Liam in the last book, as he vied with Rik, for Cara’s heart. Obviously, since we’re here, he didn’t win and his final scene in that book was pretty heartbreaking. This book picks up immediately where Book #1 left off. His heart is still bruised, and his internal dialog is just really sad. I wanted to just give him a hug and tell him everything will be better.

We find out more information about the guardians and some characters from Book#1 feature pretty prominently here. While a bit of a different storyline, the overarching themes from book #1 continue here. I did like Book #1 better, but that doesn’t mean this book was bad. It wasn’t . It was a very engaging, enjoyable read and I highly recommend the book and the series. You definitely need to read the books in order.

It's okay, but there are several narrative inconsistencies with Book 1. One of the biggest issues is the claim that Shadow Falls is the strongest pack. This contradicts what was clearly established earlier in the series. Cara even said, "My father and I are the biggest reason that our pack is the strongest in the country."

And upon further reading Book 1, the author explicitly states that while Shadow Falls may have more members, Canyon Ridge is the stronger pack—primarily because they have two Guardians (Clint and Cara), and their warriors are trained directly by Clint and Anders. And, again, I quote from Rik, "Our pack, the Canyon Ridge Pack, is the 2nd largest in the country with well over 500 pack members. And, even though we're not the largest, we are by far, the strongest. My father is a powerful alpha, I am a strong and powerful alpha heir, and technically, we have two guardians, although I've never met the daughter of the man and woman that saved my family’s life."

And even if Canyon Ridge only had Cara, they’d still be formidable. But on top of that, they also have two Alphas (Anders and Rik), which logically reinforces their status as the most powerful and well-led pack. So when later books suddenly claim that Shadow Falls is the strongest, it simply doesn't make sense. It undermines the structure and worldbuilding that Book 1 worked hard to establish.

Another thing I hate, how in book 3 it is said that Grace is the strongest guardian. That doesn't make sense, she doesn't have Cara's physical strength, battle tactics and control of aura. How is Grace more powerful when she was acting like a connection or a conduit for Angel and Cara? And she may be a daughter of an Alpha but Cara is a daughter to TWO guardians. By this series principle and logic, she inherited her parents' abilities. That alone, she should be more powerful than Angel and Grace. I hate how the author defied logic just to make book 3 's FMC stand out even if it doesn't make sense.

Because of these plot holes and narrative oversights, I found myself losing interest in book 2 and 3. Book 1 is better. It felt more cohesive, better grounded, and consistent in its logic.

Available exclusively on GoodNovel, Alpha's Guardian Angel delivers a spellbinding blend of dark fantasy fantasy and heart-wrenching romance romance. Set in a world where werewolf hierarchies clash with vampire cruelty, this tale masterfully weaves together themes of vengeance, survival, and the transformative power of love.

Liam Holstin, an Alpha haunted by betrayal and loss, faces an impossible choice: settle for a mate unworthy of becoming his Luna or rule his pack alone. But his obsession with hunting Eli Gunnar—the Banished Beta who murdered his mother—distracts him from a far greater destiny. Enter Angel Bennis, a Guardian wolf whose tragic past reads like a nightmare. Forced into roguery to evade Alpha control, then enslaved by vampires for seven years, Angel’s escape leads her straight to Liam’s territory—and the shocking revelation that he is her fated mate.

The author crafts a riveting fantasy landscape where supernatural politics and raw emotion collide. Liam’s brooding intensity contrasts beautifully with Angel’s shattered resilience, creating a dynamic that burns with tension. As vampires close in to reclaim their “prize,” the stakes soar: Can Liam prove he’s not the tyrant she fears, or will Angel’s lifelong distrust of Alphas doom their bond?

Packed with adrenaline-fueled chases, morally gray villains, and a slow-burn romance that aches with authenticity, Alpha's Guardian Angel is a standout fantasy on GoodNovel. Perfect for fans of enemies-to-lovers tropes and intricate world-building, this story asks: When fate binds two broken souls, does love become salvation—or another cage? Don’t miss this addictive page-turner!

Unexpectedly, really good. I didn’t have much hope because I’ve read a ton of really bad pay by chapter werewolf books, but this one is great and I hope it becomes a traditional book or an indie book because more people need to read it, but I don’t think most people are going to be into paying so much each chapter.

This is gonna be kind of a review for the entirety of the series because I’ve read all of them at this point .
The actual reading of them is annoying as hell because once again it’s paid by chapter or you find one of those free with pop-ups situations. Either way it sucks.

The world is super detailed as are the characters in the plot lines. It is in no way just spice the way some of them are and I shed more than a few tears.
The love stories and the idea of family and the people around you are central to this series.

If you’ve got money to spare and you’re looking for a world to get involved in, it’s worth it. But if spending more than $10 on a book isn’t in your budget, then the series isn’t for you.

Specifically in this book, I absolutely loved that both of the characters were older. Although it was still creepy as hell that the MMC was trying to meet with a 17-year-old in the previous book. Which still not OK with. Ignoring that.
The FMC went through an absolutely horrific childhood young adult and adulthood. The details are extremely graphic and extremely upsetting, so please be careful. The sexual abuse is very hard to read, and it is of men, women, and children of all ages.

What started out as a random ad is turning about to be a really enjoyable series. I think I’m enjoying them even more as I go. I really like Liam and Angel as a couple and it is lovely to have the bonus of Sarah and Dustin. This trilogy has the great component of sharing more of the first story and I’m looking forward to that continuing in the third. There is love, war, babies, ceremonies, life, death, what more could you want

Second book of the series. It picks up where books 1 ends and there is some crossover (you do need to read the books in order). This book follows Liam as he attempts to move forward after his heartbreak. Angel turns out to be his mate, but she's had a rough life filled with trauma before they cross paths. This book highlights trauma and its impact on oneself and the struggles to move forward and not let it consume you.
