It's okay, but there are several narrative inconsistencies with Book 1. One of the biggest issues is the claim that Shadow Falls is the strongest pack. This contradicts what was clearly established earlier in the series. Cara even said, "My father and I are the biggest reason that our pack is the strongest in the country."
And upon further reading Book 1, the author explicitly states that while Shadow Falls may have more members, Canyon Ridge is the stronger pack—primarily because they have two Guardians (Clint and Cara), and their warriors are trained directly by Clint and Anders. And, again, I quote from Rik, "Our pack, the Canyon Ridge Pack, is the 2nd largest in the country with well over 500 pack members. And, even though we're not the largest, we are by far, the strongest. My father is a powerful alpha, I am a strong and powerful alpha heir, and technically, we have two guardians, although I've never met the daughter of the man and woman that saved my family’s life."
And even if Canyon Ridge only had Cara, they’d still be formidable. But on top of that, they also have two Alphas (Anders and Rik), which logically reinforces their status as the most powerful and well-led pack. So when later books suddenly claim that Shadow Falls is the strongest, it simply doesn't make sense. It undermines the structure and worldbuilding that Book 1 worked hard to establish.
Another thing I hate, how in book 3 it is said that Grace is the strongest guardian. That doesn't make sense, she doesn't have Cara's physical strength, battle tactics and control of aura. How is Grace more powerful when she was acting like a connection or a conduit for Angel and Cara? And she may be a daughter of an Alpha but Cara is a daughter to TWO guardians. By this series principle and logic, she inherited her parents' abilities. That alone, she should be more powerful than Angel and Grace. I hate how the author defied logic just to make book 3 's FMC stand out even if it doesn't make sense.
Because of these plot holes and narrative oversights, I found myself losing interest in book 2 and 3. Book 1 is better. It felt more cohesive, better grounded, and consistent in its logic.
