WARNING:
Lotsa COLD compresses needed for this "NIGHT SWEATS" book.

COMPELLING PREMISE:

A woman's lake house weekend getaway takes a terrifying detour when a young woman emerges from the woods.

OUCH!
At 50%, the storyline required such a huge suspension of disbelief that my eyes started rolling with rapid speed.

(It was painful!)

Where were those cold compresses when needed?

Fortunately, I listened to the audiobook, expertly narrated by Jane Oppenheimer.

It was Jane Oppenheimer's outstanding performance that helped me make it to the finish line.

This book came up for me as a Facebook ad and the synopsis was too intriguing to pass up!

When Barbara’s co-worker offers up her vacation home to get away, she packs a bag to head there for the weekend. With her marriage in turmoil due to the death of their daughter, she needs some time to decompress.

Well, let’s just say she gets anything but a relaxing vacation. When Kylie shows up after fleeing her kidnapper, all hell breaks loose!! This was a quick action packed story that I couldn’t put down! For fans of books like Run on red by Noelle W Ihli!

Y’ALLLLLLL. OMG. If you know me, you know I’m very particular about my thrillers and I judge them pretty harshly because I’ve read so many. The last few thrillers I’ve read, I’ve guessed the plot twists which is disappointing. So often, main characters in thrillers are morons. But not in this book. Omg.

Here’s what I loved:
- The protagonists. Both strong, brave, dynamic, and smart.
- The suspense/action. I swear I didn’t fully breathe or relax until 5% of the book was left, and then I breathed a huge sigh.
- The setting. A secluded lake house could easily be tropey for a thriller, but in this case, it was genuinely creepy.
- The writing. Savage has a beautiful writing style. I love the way things are described in this book.
- The story in general. Creative, unique, hooking. I devoured it in less than 2 days.

I’m sure I could say so much more but I won’t go on and on. Magnificent book!

I am so grateful to have been chosen to read this book as an ARC. My thriller lovers MUST read this when it comes out!

This book was so good! I feel so lucky to have come across this author and receive an arc! This book had me hooked from the beginning. It keeps you on edge, scared for the main characters. I love the strength of fighting back shown in the characters.

If you’re a thriller reader you definitely should add this to your tbr and I have a quote to convince you:

“Her naked body is a tapestry of fine crimson cuts. A gruesome work of art, as well as a great deal of meticulous torture.”

THIS QUOTE HAD ME HOOKED!

Just ok for me. Switching from 1st person POV to 3rd person POV was weird. Why not just keep it first person? Not sure why hot flashes and perimenopause was such a big focus either. It added ZERO to the plot/storyline. The twist was easy to figure out for me. I was expecting more of a jaw dropping twist, not an easily predictable one.

If I didn’t have to put down this book to go to work and sleep, I wouldn’t have! I think it was written well, and like I said earlier, my lack of attention span was strapped the entire time. Excited to read more of this author’s work!!

I received an ARC of this book and I’m thankful I did. As a thriller lover I am always on the hunt for more authors in this genre. I am NOT disappointed by Beau and cannot wait to see what he comes out with next.

First off I adored the dedication. I would have read this book in one sitting but alas I am a working mom and sometimes free time is sparse. Once I got to part two I could not stop until I read the entire book. I do not want to give anything away, I think this is the kind of book that is best to go in blind. Definitely recommend picking up this book once it’s released!

Disappointing. I found this a pretty boring story; derivative and stale. I appreciate that there are common blueprints in plots so the author needs to bring something new or exciting to the table. This had nothing to add. There was no "point" to the story. There were no red herrings, no misdirection (which I was hoping for) and therefore there was no big surprise reveal at the end. The characters weren't well developed and the "motive" for the Barbara storyline was ridiculous. I also thought the title was nonsensical and had no relevance to the story.

I struggled through the entire book. I wanted to DNF it so many times. The entire "hot flash" topic had nothing to do with anything. There was no conversation between the female characters that remotely sounded natural. It felt like a low budget movie.

I have to say Goodreads family that I loved this book!!! I never thought it would be this good!! The 2 main characters were AWESOME!! I was cheering for them all the way through reading this book. This author is outstanding. I never read any books from this author but I will tell you this, I will read any book that this author has written. I just happen to pick this book randomly. It’s not exciting in the beginning but don’t give up. It will get really really good!! Honestly what these 2 women well one was 17 and the other I think was in her late forties or beginning 50’s were the true meaning of bad ass girls!! Talk about being relentless to save each other. You could learn a lot from these 2 characters!! Don’t give up when reading the beginning of the book give it chance and you’ll see that you won’t put the book down and I am 100 % positive you will never guess what happens!!

The book was a little slow at first. Then, by chapter 3, it starts to pick up. By the time I reached the halfway point, I couldn't put it down. Filled with suspense and unexpected surprises, I really enjoyed this book.

This was my first ever ARC read and I absolutely devoured it in less than 24 hours. The pacing was really good, the story was well written, and the main characters were likable. This was a quick, easy, fun read and that’s my favorite type. I like getting lost in the story and that was easy with this one. You find yourself rooting so hard for the characters and getting so invested that it can be hard to put down, but so easy to pick back up. The only fault for me was the scene with the raccoon so be warned if you are an animal lover. I was tempted to give this book 4 ⭐️ but for this to be what I think is the first book by an independently publishing author, I was very impressed.

I seen this book on a Facebook ad and it looked so promising. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectations. After it ended I wanted to know why Sterling was a psycho. How he’d picked his prey. Was kidnapping Kylie intentional or a random act? Why was Kylie’s dad so controlling and yet so uncaring? After all she’d survived how could he just still not care? Why were Barbs hot flashes even a part of the book … it was explained and gone over in detail for nothing. Like the fluff of this book was pretty boring and we didn’t come any closer to answers. We know Cassidy’s motive but it was a very unrealistic one. Was just meh all around

Whew, I feel almost like I've been running for my life.

This book follows a young teenage girl and a middle aged woman as they fight for their life one stormy night in the Tennessee hills.

Right from the beginning this book had me on the edge of my seat. Kylie and Barbara arrive at the lake house from two entirely separate directions. Barbara's kind-hearted co-worker offers her a weekend away full of relaxation at her family's lake house. Kylie's been kidnapped by a dangerous man and is being held in the basement of another house across the lake.

There were twists in here I didn't see coming, moments where I thought SURELY these women have been through enough, surely they'll get away! Only for the bad guy to predict their move and overpower them again and again. Predictably, Kylie and Barbara don't know each other, but form a kinship amid the chaos.

But this story isn't just about 2 random women struggling against a villain. Their backstories are tragic and unfortunate to say the least. Barbara lost her daughter (who was 17 the same age as Kylie is at present) 3 years before and this story pulls at all the heart strings. Kylie ran away from home, escaping a drunk and neglectful and verbally abusive father, running straight into the arms of something much, much worse.

I loved watching Barbara step into the sort of motherly role again--there were moments where I was reminded of that story about the mother lifting a car to free her child - she protects and encourages Kylie to keep going despite knowing how slim their chances are. And Kylie, who's never had a strong female figure in her life comes back for Barbara even when she doesn't have to, even at her own detriment. Proving just how tenacious and resilient they both are.

This isn't one of those thrillers that's jam-packed with twists and turns. There are a few, but mostly this is just a harrowing tale about 2 women's fight for survival against a crazy and evil assailant.

It's also sort of a story about mothers and daughters. And I don't mean just Barbara and her deceased daughter or even Barbara and Kylie. It's a story about fighting to keep going, even when all the odds are against you.

The one thing I didn't really get and the thing that kind of began to irritate me was the whole "night sweats" concept. The fact that Barbara is in perimenopause and is having hot flashes. It had nothing to do with anything and didn't add anything to the plot of the story at all. It felt like a weird thing for the author to focus on at the end of the day. Woman's literally been locked in a basement after being clocked upside the head with a GUN and she's going on about a hot flash? Really? I don't think I'd give half a shit about sweating when my life was in danger, personally.

That last gripe aside, I think thriller fans who aren't afraid of a little blood guts and gore will enjoy this. It's a great page-turner, a short read to pass an afternoon.

When a book keeps you up way past your bedtime, you know it's good.

Highly original, this edge of your seat thriller will have you guessing at every plot twist. I went into this blind and couldn't stop reading. Usually in this type of situation, I appreciate an older character's perspective. I love when a character uses her brain and acts realistically. Four stars because of the (for me) unsatisfying ending.

4.5 stars. Despite the weird title, this book is a great, fast paced thriller. I really liked both Barbara and Kylie as characters. The villains were loathsome and the action was constant. There were some good twists and turns. Great thriller.

Night Sweats by Beau Savage is a phenomenal thriller! This book is based on two main characters' points of view. Barbara whose married life is struggling due to the overwhelming loss of her daughter in a car accident is barely making it day by day trying to deal with the sadness of her loss. Kylie is an unloved teenager whose mom skipped out of town and has an alcoholic father who just yells and screams and just doesn't care about his daughter, she has all she can take and packs up and runs away.
Barbara is offered a weekend getaway by a coworker Cassie to give her some alone time to aid in her recovery with some peace, and quiet at her cabin on a lake. Barbara accepts and settles in at the lake and sees a gentleman across the lake who waves cordially but has no idea what secrets he's keeping. Kyle plans on running away to her sister's house, but her sister has no knowledge Kylie is coming.
The character building is great but the plot steals the show as a thriller book should! Night Sweats is a nail-biting, fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat thriller that you won't be able to put down. There are so many twists and turns you feel like you're spinning! I read this book in one sitting. Beau Savage is a fantastic writer and this is an absolute must-read thriller!

I am thankful to have gotten the eARC for free from the author so I can leave my voluntary review.

This was a good fast paced thriller that is sure to get folks blood pumping. The prose moves along at a nice pace with the appropriate twists of a thriller.

The book is done in two parts and duel POVs. However, it’s not typical in how it’s written. Part of the book is written in 1st person of Barbara a middle aged mom going through perimenopause (not really sure why that fact was in the book but hot flashes were mentioned a lot) and is sort of “blah” in life. I don’t want to give any spoilers so I won’t say anything more. Let’s just say she has a bunch of baggage and needs an escape.

The story goes back and forth with a teenager name Kylie whose sections are written in 3rd person POV. It’s actually the most challenging part of the book as switching between 1st and 3rd POV is confusing and just not as easy to read. The other issue is that while it’s 3rd person at times those section come off like a 1st first person POV. It would have been a lot better for the author to pick one or the other. Because of his tendencies it would have been nicer to read it all in 1st person and just label the chapters of who was the narrator (which should be done anyway with what’s there but wasn’t)

The part 2 of the book was definitely the more exciting and better written part of the book. It’s like the author really got into his stride at that point and despite the POV issue things because more fluid and succinct. The first half of the book dragged slightly at times and was overly wordy in some descriptions of various things which didn’t come off as authentic.

Part 2 I read in one sitting as I didn’t want to put it down until I knew what happened.

So if you’re looking for an easy thriller to read put this on your TBR as it comes out at the end of August 2024.
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars and I rarely round up.

⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again

*I did receive this book as an ARC from the author. Here is my honest review.

I enjoyed the twists and turns of this thriller/horror novel. The story opens from the POV of a victim of a serial killer right before she is killed. The protagonist starts off in a sad place of grief and depression that is consuming her. A friendly co-worker offers the protagonist a quiet weekend alone at her family’s lake house. This is exactly what the protagonist thinks that she needs to get out of her monotonous grief. The other main character is a young lady that runs away from home and finds herself in a nightmare.

I liked how the author changed the POV between two characters and this became very interesting when the characters were together. The POV of the protagonist was in first person and the other character was in third person. The pacing of this book was fast and helped to build the tension that a thrill/horror book needs. The lake and surrounding area were a character in and of itself. The antagonists of this story were equally developed. I don’t want to say too much about the antagonists because you will just have to read the book. While we don’t know why the serial killer started killing, we do get a good picture of why the second antagonists is the way they are. The plot was full of twists and turns that would allow you to catch your breath before the author would press the gas pedal to the floor again.

I like to add quotes from the book that I am reviewing to highlight examples of the writing that I enjoyed but, in this case, all the quotes had spoilers. So, I will quote the first sentence of each of the female protagonists.
“The only thing worse than crying in a public restroom is being caught crying in one.”
“Kylie Grenko is a seventeen-year-old hurricane.”

While I’m not huge reader of thriller/horror, I really did enjoy this book and give it 5 out 5 stars. I do recommend this book even if you don’t consider thriller/horror your genre, this book a chance.

I did receive an ARC copy and here is my honest review:

"You don't blame the wolf when somebody's sheep wanders from the pasture "

This book is an absolute page-turner! The author masterfully weaves together two compelling narratives that had me hooked from the start. The pacing is perfect, keeping me on the edge of my seat with every twist and turn.

I adored the strong, complex characters and found myself deeply invested in their journeys. The eerie atmosphere of the secluded lake house added an extra layer of tension to the already thrilling plot. Savage's writing is simply stunning, and the story itself is both creative and captivating.

This is the kind of book you can't put down. I can't wait to see what this author writes next.

If you enjoy thrillers you should check out this book. The level of suspense was intense in the best of ways. I found myself often bouncing my legs in anticipation and anxiety while reading. I enjoyed that the story is told from two perspectives and ties together seamlessly. The ending was a bit predictable for me but I tend to have the ability to predict most endings of books and movies so it doesn’t bother me at all.(thanks to being Audhd 😅) I never found myself bored and i finished this book within 24 hours of starting. It’s an easy read that will get your mind wondering and heart racing. Looking forward to more books from this author in the future.

I devoured this book in a matter of hours and let me just say this is honestly my favorite thriller read I’ve tried out in my entire reading history. I don’t typically read this genre but read some this year and in the past, and this takes the cake. I love the constant addition of new twists and turns you didn’t expect to be a part of the story and I honestly liked the changing POVs of the chapters which typically is something I have trouble following in most novels. Talk about girl power!! It was a great read and I am so glad I had the opportunity to enjoy it. I definitely would recommend this! And I look forward to more from this author in the future.
