More of the same... but with no ending.
Not a cliffhanger as there's no imminent danger, but there's NO ANSWERS EITHER.
I found this as part of what I UNDERSTOOD to be, a series written by multiple authors. ...(Kingdom of Wolves). So I didn't think I'd need to read the next one. I just wanted a one off book to read while dealing with moving house.
BUT
This book is ALSO the first in ANOTHER series by this author.
Am I going to read the next two (because MS on writes trilogies)... HELL NO.
I felt like a hamster on a wheel while reading this one... spinning around and around and not getting anywhere
I wondered why, as I was reading, there were no answers to any of the questions posed by the plot and characters. Everything was drawn outmilked to death. Minutiae like shopping for backpacks and bedding and how awesome his truck is.
It's a cute fluffy read. One downtrodden, low self esteem, snowflake, OTT naive wolf girl meets a cute wolf boy... Then she meets another and another and so on.
One nice thing was that not all the other girls on campus are back stabbing sluts. In fact, we've yet to meet these fabled wolf princesses.
But all the characters are either good or evil. And the evil ones are VERy evil.
And.... well that's about it.

Reread #1 (Oct. 2024) -
So I'm pretty sure I didn't continue on with this series when I first picked it up because the audiobooks were still being released. The last one is about to be released so I figured I might as well since my mood reader brain has been on one lately.
I LOVED this one even more the second time around! The inner monologues are still over explanatory but it was fine. However, I did pick up an annoyance with the dialogue this time around. Specifically, the way everyone says "plus" when they want to add something to what was said or that they just said. Every single character did this. It's probably something the author normally does in real life. After I noticed that I couldn't unnotice it. It kinda sorta ground my gears but I'll live 😅

My Review:
I truly liked this book but it doesn't mean it was without its faults. I disliked how slow it was paced. I can enjoy a slow-paced book but I need some bread crumbs to string me along. This one was so slow-paced that the whole book takes place in the span of 3 days. So rationally that isn't even enough time for the characters to find time to have a conversation about what's going on and inform the heroine about it. The repetitive inner monologue was also rough. I didn't need that much information to always be reached from different points of view. Just one was fine. I can fill in the rest, I promise!
On a positive note, I liked the guys! I wish with all the repeating the author did in the inner monologues that she would comment on their appearance because I had a hard time differentiating one from the other after they were first introduced but maybe that's just me? Overall, I liked that they treated her with respect from the very beginning and that treatment continued and only got more and more possessive as the book progressed (even though only 3 days pasted).

So much inner dialogue! I love me some angsty feelings but this book really goes overboard in the description of every single thought and concern. It took me out of it completely. DNF at 37%.

I tried. I made it to the third chapter but it took 2 pages for the girl to describe the guys voice and how that made her feel. I'm having an anxiety attack willing her to hurry the hell up. There's only like 270 in the whole book.

This was phenomenally trashy but fun nonetheless!! The naive abused fmc trend is strong in this one, but it makes me giggle ironically everytime, so I can’t be mad about it. Entertaining amusement!

My foray into this Kingdom of Wolves collective.
If you are familiar with the author’s work this book is keeping on trend. So if you like her characters and style you are good to give this book a chance. If you are new to her work or are hoping for something different it’s only for you if you are not picky.
This book is very much the naïve female who finds herself in a position where she suddenly has a bunch of mates and super special powers. All in the duration of around 200 pages for us and three days for the heroine to experience insta lust/love.
Long internal recollections and low self-esteem abound (time consuming). Our lead has the sheltered/bullied/ignorant back story (swear I’ve read this before). A seemingly sudden turn of fortune leads to some happenstance and her acquiring some damaged and protective Adonises (Adoni?). Who are wealthy enough to give her luxuries she was denied (ok I guess). She nobly allows them to sweep her off her feet with no fight while they mentally serenade her beauty and strength (blegh).
(Did I do sarcasm right?)
Needless to say, this book lacked originality. The universe is interesting, but the characters felt dull and the way the back story is introduced is tedious. Moreover, big pet peeve returns with mental love ballads to this strange woman they’ve just met. I mean I get the whole fated mate genre, I enjoy for the most part, but despite the “magic” they are still a stranger. The mate thing is like a good push to get your partner dancing, it doesn’t make you instantly all knowing regarding their character. Let alone give reason to start viewing the other as some flying rainbow unicorn. Just saying it’s not fun to read repetitive prose of a character’s awesomeness especially without strong supporting evidence. Especially when this book spans THREE DAYS.
So yeah, maybe I’ll read the sequel for the actual story which was ok, but the romance was trite. Nothing popped and I don’t love the overdone troubled heroine thing going on. So we’ll see how desperate I am for a book.
Until then...

It's just book 1 and I am obsessed with this newfound world. Effie is by far my favorite female character from this author...a strong werewolf who despite all of the odds have come to a place other's only dream of.
From a world where female have only one job...to take care of their mate and produce pups for them, she broke the rules.
I love all the male characters in here...it RH but they form a unity. I love how the characters are created in such a way to not sugarcoat the reality but make us readers see it in a new light...
I am so glad that this is just the start and we are in for a long ride with Effie and her mates...

I wish I could give this 10⭐️ this book was so good!
M.Sinclair this book is amazing. Everything I read by you has me absolutely addicted. I loved this book.
Effie grew up in a horrible and toxic pack where a woman’s worth was to mate a pop out babies. Where the men of the pack used and abused them. She suddenly gets a full scholarship to Silver Falls University. So her pack ships her off. There sweet naive Effie meets her mates who are patient , kind and protective.
I didn’t want it to end!! I am so glad this is going to be a 5 book series I need book 2 ASAP.

The 1st book in this new series by M. Sinclair had me captivated from the start. Lately I have found that the Academy trope to be overdone so I was tentative going into the story. I am so glad that I did. The main character Effie is a Bitten wolf heading to a shifter university. She is naive, gentle and unused to being treated well. She had been kept isolated by her pack, and the change of her circumstances left her uncertain and vulnerable. The male leads in the story are alpha in all good ways. They are rocked by Effie entering their lives. The story is beautifully written and the characters engaging. I found myself emmersed in the story to the point that I couldn't put it down until I finished it. M. Sinclair has a way of writing characters that are both flawed and larger than life. Book 2 cannot come soon enough.

I'm going to keep reading the series, because there's enough of a hook to the story that I want to know what happens next. But at the same time, I'm mildly irritated by excessive naivety in the MC, and, the fact that most of the book is basically someone's internal monologue with not enough actual dialogue, or action. Also, in the writing, there's some use of words out of context where it seems like the author doesn't really understand what the words mean, and this kinda pulls me out of the story every time.

The exposition reads like a teenager’s journal. As is usual of basically every bit of fiction since Dickens, the author perpetuates the stereotype that the people who open their homes to traumatized abused children do so with the specific desire to cause more abuse/trauma. By the time the author gets around to describing the female protagonist, Effie, as being “little”, “tiny”, and smaller than the bag she carried, I decided to move along to another book where, hopefully, the FMC is bigger than a toddler.

The read was real slog because it was mainly endless, repetitive internal monologues.
Good
1) Settings were well-depicted and the main one was unique (modern glass and steel triangular building)
2) Female lead is into economics and loves math
3) Love interests all have different voices and stories
Bad
1) Very little world-building (ie. each of the love interests were a different type of shifter wolf but the differences were never explained; a name for one of them isn't even given until almost the end)
2) No hint of a series arc
3) No plot
4) It made no sense for a pack of werewolves to be living in an apartment building inside an large urban center
5) Female lead was weak, gutless, useless and too stupid to live (I felt really sorry for her feisty wolf being bound to someone so pathetic)
6) Female lead's inner monologues were oh, so self-pitying
7) Female lead's physical form is described as dainty AND curvy
8) How the hell did she plan on baking without an oven?
9) Was it possible I was just hyper-focusing on the few first people that wanted to spend time with me? That didn’t treat me like crap? Honey, you saw the second guy for the first time thirty seconds ago and haven't exchanged one word with him; how do you know he wants to spend time with you and won't treat you like crap?
10) It made no sense that blood-bonded packs were artificially created but they had fated mates
11) The love interests pass possessive into ownership/proprietorship territory, never considering the female lead as a individual, just as THEIR mate
12) The love interests continually infantalized the female lead, carrying her, lifting in and out of the car, even buckling her seat belt up for her and calling her 'little bit' and 'little wolf'
13) It was creepy that the largest love interest, who was well over a foot taller than her, wanted to sexually dominate her
14) It was creepy that another love interest enjoyed the idea that he could physically overpower and abduct her and there was nothing she could do about it
15) The love interests knew she is in danger from someone trying to forcibly mate with her but didn't bother to warn her of the danger

1) Bitten female wolves are considered a hot commodity due to their breeding possibilities

Full of mysteries
I loved this book!
Effie is a bitten wolf who didn't remember anything about her past since she was 13 years old. She grew up in a pack where she has been bullied and physically/mentally abused. When she arrived at Silver Falls University, thanks to a mysterious scholarship, she met four guys (and a fifth one later) who questioned her fear and wariness against men.
Effie has been isolated during so many years that she isn't very "in phase" with the world. She was naive (which was a bit annoying sometimes) but not stupid and was a very likeable character.
The guys were all very intense but in different ways. The fact that one of them had a very dark and traumatic past was a very interesting path that needs exploring!
Expect a cliffhanger at the end of the book and many unanswered questions!

First of all wow! Just Wow... If your reading this you need to run to amazon and buy this book stat. M Sinclair has outdone herself with this new series it is gripping, it is honestly just absolute perfection. Lost really resonated with me and it's probably one of my favourite books by her. Not because of the storyline or anything like that but because of the way Effy's Anxiety is shown in the book - because it is so real. M Sinclair is definitely one of my favourite authors because of how she normalises mental health in her books and she did an absolute amazing job with this one. Moral of the Story READ THIS BOOK.

Pleasantly surprised by this reverse harem paranormal romance read.
I liked the main characters and found myself overall entertained.
I did feel that given everything the heroine went through she would be way warier and questioning the instant connection she felt more than she did. But this wasn't a big issue.
I downloaded book 2 straight after finishing this.

I did feel that given everything the heroine went through she would be way warier and questioning the instant connection she felt more than she did. But this wasn't a big issue.

2.5 stars rounded up. It took until page 25 for someone other than the FMC to speak and something to happen, other than seemingly endless inner monologue… then things switched to one of the MMCs and - oh joy - it was his turn for inner monologue, though fortunately not so long!
Now the premise for this book - and series - was interesting but things moved so slowly, with much repetition and so little dialogue or action that I almost DNF’d. And the book covered the events of less than a week (RH wolf shifter instalove, interwoven with fated mates).
I persevered, but info was dumped (through more inner monologue) rather than revealed/shown, and the ending left so much unanswered - presumably (one can hope) to be addressed in subsequent books in the series. Arrghhh!

Quick Review:
If you like hurt/comfort themes, protective heroes, or heroines in need of rescue, then this story will work for you.
Unfortunately, the writing gets in the way of the story.
• The first 10% of the book is almost entirely narration, inner monologue, and info dumping. The reader is trapped inside the MC's head while she is riding a train. Literally sitting there, doing nothing but thinking about all the things. (I honestly should have DNF at that point.)
• Further along in the book, the inner monologue is predominant, repetitive, and not necessary to the story. Seriously, you could skip most of it as it slows the pace and leaves it feeling uneven. It also often interrupts the dialog, going on for pages, to the point that you can forget what the preceding dialog was about.
• Structure felt a bit one-act, instead of three. Probably because this takes place over two to three days and nothing really happens until the end.
• While we are given some depth of character development for our heroine, there isn't much for the guys.
• This takes place in a supernatural university, but we aren't told what other types of supernaturals there are. Though it is clear "wolves" aren't the only ones.
TLDR: Could use developmental and substantive edits to help structure, pace, flow, and clarity.

A girl from the wrong side of the tracks, Effie should be broken and lost like the title suggests. She is lost but not in the way you expect. She a survivor but even she isn't prepared for the events that unfold and bring to her to her mates. Five alpha males each ready to protect her but when she has been lost and hidden from the world. There is obvious questions to be asked, as how did she land in their lap so quickly. What is in the air?
M. Sinclair had me hooked from the beginning. Have read the first book in this shared world . I couldn't wait for Sinclair's series in this Kingdom of Wolves world. It disappoint, it's true Sinclair fashion and I loved how quick the guys were in tuned with her . They were so sweet and already there is a clear favourite for me even though all the guys have their qualities that make them the perfect harem for Effie.
I can't wait to read more of this world as this University has plenty of secrets and poor Effie she really be through a lot and I can't wait to see how she will flourish

I was surprised at how hard I had to shake myself to come out of this world when the book finished. It ended with an open unanswered revelation cliffhanger!!! Before that, it was all doom and gloom with a mixture of the FMC world collapsing around her.
This is book 1 in a 5 book series. It's paranormal, so far just shifters and mainly wolves, reverse harem, bond/fated mate, broken traumatic pasts, slow burn but with plenty of spice, Academy trope.
The initial plunge into this book had me a tad confused, taking me some time to realise the FMC past is unknown and this is her life, full of beatings bullying rejection and threats. Even so, she's kept a light in her and along with her wolf takes each day and keeps going, keeps learning keeps living.
She's accepted to Silver Falls University, which is great although a surprise when she never applied.
Her first interaction with someone from the university is an instant connection. I wouldn't call it insta-love, more just an instant bond that clears the way to trust and attraction. It was refreshing having the MMC's POVs being all about getting to know her, being possessive, worried and noticing her strengths and worth, while trying not to mess up the chance they have.
It's all still developing, and because there's an instant bond mate element, it soon opens up questions of intention and self-worth.
It is a book filled with cosy moments that make me want to be Effiy at the moments in the MMC's POV. The resulting good centring feeling the FMC gets from them, I want! It was just nice!
Oh and don't get me wrong, there is plenty of darkness and danger in the past, current and future. There is a mystery surrounding her as she has no memories before being bitten. There is a mystery behind all the MMCs, some more surprising as we glimpse some trauma in their POVs. As well as the different wolves, getting my head around how some can't shift and seem to be more of an omegaverse element with the power of the wolves but no shifting ability.
I may even little break, it was both easy and intense a read, with conflicting emotions and I'm a little exhausted in a good way

I'm very lukewarm on this to the point I feel 3 stars is generous.
It was like the author had created these character's backstory and spent more time telling me about that backstory than actually giving me a story.
I should have seen that coming considering the first 10% (which was an actual 25 pages) was spent with the heroine ruminating while on a train about the past abuse she had suffered and how "she was sure this wasn't right". Just a lot of repeating of "they beat me" which really didn't need that much telling.
It could, maybe, be okay if we got less of that in the next few books but I fear the next book will just focus on the men in her harem that didn't get as much attention in book 1 so the author can tell me how unworthy they feel and how broken and abused they are while nothing really happens.
(She went to a total of two classes)
Which, now that I'm writing this, surprises me because I notice I've read Reborn In Flames by this author and that is in fact an older work. (And was much better)

Ever wonder what a slow insta love looks like? This is probably the best example I have for you.
This book shows a lot of promise for a series, but I it feels like you probably have to read all of them as if they’re one book to really get that beginning middle end feel. The first book feels like a the foundation you would normally get in the first 15 chapters of a book. That said it was interesting enough that I started this at 2 am and finished at 6 am so do with that what you will.
Each of the men is very unique and I feel like I’m getting enough time with each to get to know them as distinct individuals. The FMC is showing promise as a badass cranky man wrangler dispute her sheltered upbringing a s traumatic past.
Overall I’m going to keep going with this one and see if it can keep me invested because I have a lot of questions and I’m hoping I get a lot of answers.

Mmmmm, protective alphas. Damn I love that shit. This book has a lot of potential if you like that trope. But it moved soooo slow. The whole book takes place over just two days. And the author seems to have an obsession with internal thoughts. Seriously, most of the book consists of 6 pages of thoughts and then one question from a character, followed by 6 more pages of her thoughts as she thinks about her traumatic abused past and worries about how naive she is and how she should answer the guy or even why the guy is talking to her. Then she’ll answer in one sentence and we have to go through another 6 pages of thoughts as she worries if what she said is right and be scared that he’s not going to like her answer. He’ll reply and try to reassure her and then she’ll spend another 6 pages wondering why she’s being nice when no one in her old pack was nice. 😫
Other than the pacing issue…

I’m sure the spice will increase as the series goes since this one took place over just two days and she’s barely figured out what’s going on yet, let alone had a chance to make out with anyone yet. The men knew she was their mate immediately, but she didn’t know till nearly the end since her childhood memory loss and later sheltered and abused upbringing left her with a very poor understanding of shifters in general and her own place in shifter society.
Book 1 ends with a bit of a bomb dropped by her newest mate who is a kitsune, not wolf—which shouldn’t be possible from what the book leads us to believe.

There were honestly pages that I skimmed because of the info dumping. Perhaps worse, more than 3/4 of the information could’ve been integrated into the dialogue or the plot. It’s a clue when a character says something in dialogue (not monologue) to another character which sets off *pages* of an explanation and then that same character “gets back on track” and is all, “As I said before...” 🙈. If you’re saying “as I said before” it’s too soon to be repeating that information! Readers actually do retain information, especially if it concerns world-building.

Okay this whole Book 1 is just of Effie settling into the campus. Mind you it has been 3 days give or take. This book covers 3 whole days. And why it takes so long might you ask? INTERNAL MONOLOGUES. It is infuriatingly long winded my god I do not care. For every one part of a conversation theres an entire monologue in between. And the mates instantly knowing who she is to them but keeping it from her just doesnt make sense and is just very annoying. I dont know if its worth it to continue I dont really care for it if I'm being honest

Started out good
It started out good but the MC just kept being so misinformed and clueless. The span of time was like 2 or 3 days and instead of having more action, lengthening the time span to make it realistic, or getting more info about the guys, she droned on and on about everyone of her feelings of inadequacy. I loved Effie her naivetè and her kindness and compassion is amazing and i am glad he found her mates. I feel bad for what happened to her in her old pack but it's over now. I am usually more on the kick butt fmc but i adore Effie and her sweetness.
