The Rangers are taking on missions daily… The Free Fleet is becoming more widely known… The ex-Korsan captains are forming their own alliances… The Expedition-class ships have reached their destination…
Jorim Perona has been resurrected, and is looking for payback. With his advanced warship, the Vengeance, he is out to repatriate his fleet, or destroy them.
But his main focus is on the Aurora, and her captain. And he’ll sacrifice everything to destroy them.
"The Vengeance" is the 12th episode in Part 3 of the Frontiers Fringe Worlds.
Born in 1960 and raised on an overdose of television, NASA, and science fiction, Ryk Brown has worked as a cook, rock guitarist, stage lighting technician, and paramedic. He currently resides in Northern California with his wife, daughter, and cat. By day he fixes computers, and by night he creates stories. Having spent his entire life "thinking stuff up", the advent of digital publishing has finally given him an excuse to write it all down and share it with others. ("Others" meaning someone other than his poor wife and daughter.) A long-time fan of all things science and space, his goal is to write and publish an on-going series of sci-fi adventures. To be set in his own version of humanity's future, his characters will explore the vast reaches of the galaxy, and perhaps even the universe. He invites you all to join him on this journey through his vivid imagination.
I just finished The Vengeance, the twelfth installment in Ryk Brown’s Fringe Worlds Series, and it’s another gripping chapter in a saga I’ve followed since the very beginning. Brown continues to prove himself a skilled storyteller, deftly weaving suspense, humor, and compelling human dynamics into his narrative.
This episode stands out from earlier ones: the Aurora faces off against The Vengeance, a warship with equal—or possibly superior—firepower, commanded by the ruthless Captain Jorim Perona. Perona is a formidable new antagonist, and I have no doubt he’ll resurface in future installments. The story’s ending delivers a chilling jolt, leaving readers with a sense of unease and anticipation.
Having followed Brown’s work from his debut, I’ve grown attached to his characters—they feel like old friends now. Their evolution across the series adds emotional depth that longtime readers will appreciate.
I experienced this book as an audiobook from Audible, which runs seven hours and thirty minutes. Jeffrey Kafer’s narration is excellent, bringing the story to life with nuance and energy. His performance adds another layer of enjoyment to an already engaging tale.
The Free Fleet's rangers are establishing themselves, saving worlds from pirates. Capt. Nathan Scott has his ship, the Aurora, pretty squared away. And the Ghatazhak are becoming accustomed to their role as all-around protectors and mission backup. Yet, the challenges continue in Ryk Brown's space serial The Frontiers Saga Part 3. In "Vengeance," Scott faces the former chief of the Korsan pirate empire, returned from the dead through cloning or possibly synth recreation. And he's irritated. Brown builds the episode slowly, filling in details his fans crave about the creation of a new society in space where people are allowed the freedom to pursue their lives without worrying about some new raider coming to steal their wealth or end their lives. I was excited Brown released another of his novels and read it over three days, trying to savor the details. Of course, now that I'm done I'll have to wait patiently for the next installment.
Again another action pact adventure with Captain Scott and the newly formed Rangers. Fyi Brown has woven the story of the Rangers and their first missions with the new colonies, and with the Aurora and crew dealing with a cunning and ruthless Pirate Captain who is dead set against the others pirate clans not joining him in his pursuit of ruling the known universe. Will he come back with another powerful ship and fight Captain Scott and crew again? Wii the talks between Captain Scott and the President of the Alliance be fruitful? We'll see in the next chapter in the adventures of Captain Scott and his crew aboard the Aurora.
Seems like we have 42 books in this series. This one doesn’t disappoint.
The head of the Korsan is back, with a powerful warship named Vengeance. He blames Nathan Scott. In this book we deal with his threat, continue development of the Rangers, and explore better ways to deal with the Jung battle platforms.
This is by far my favorite science fiction series. The characters all seem to have the correct blend of humor, skill and intelligence to fit together perfectly. I also enjoy their interactions with each other as much as the stories.
I just finished reading all 12 books in this series and once I started the first book I had to keep going until number 12. This is an outstanding series full of action and plenty of science fiction the author draws you in and keeps you there until the end. This is a must read for anyone who likes science fiction with lots of action and humor.
I do not for a second believe he can, especially where it involves Captain Scott and the Aurora! I highly recommend the Frontiers Saga series to any gender or age group. The hardest part of enjoying this series is setting it down before it’s finish!
Once again Mr. Brown did it … to short as is my often heard refrain but well done. The plot on this one keeps going. I never would have thought he could keep my attention 38 or so chapters oh that’s books .
I truly enjoy this series of book. The Aurora and her crew and the other characters are a true pleasurable break for my usual routine. Thanks and keep them coming.
I have been reading since Rings of Haven and this book does not disappoint, at this point the characters are like real people to me, I can’t wait for the next book to come out, I guess that’s my review it was fantastic and I really enjoyed the story, I want to visit Paradise
We finally seen communication with the alliance get started!
The story is now starting to p ick up. The pirate factions are fractured but gathering to form unities of strength. More interestingly, the alliance finally communicates with Captain Scott. Such a fun series.
Another great read looking forward to the next book .The story lines just as good as ever the caricatures just keep you thinking what next loads more to come hopefully.
It's always great to see how the crew of the Aurora is doing. Find out how the individual characters in the story are doing. And the story is always nonstop action!! I can't wait till the next book comes out!🙂
The Free Fleet is organizing their base and maintaining their efforts to provide services wherever needed. The Rangers are beginning their deployment. Jorem has been recreated and is seeking vengeance on the Korsen and Nathan.
Another fantastic, fast paced entry in the series. The major problem with this series is that Ryk can't write them fast enough!! Enjoyed this one and am looking forward to the next one.
Ryk Brown has really raised the scales on this series. I love all the new characters and particularly the "reserected ones." Please hurry up with the next episode!!!
The Korson fleet is under attack by Jorim and the Alliance President gives Nathan a device to track the Vengeance. Also, the Aurora continues to protect the outer colanies.
Love this series!! Lovev the characters,,.their interactions with one another and the strirylines. There’s never a dull moment and always new, weird or intriguing occurrences with follow up action by the Free Fleet crew. Amazing writing!!
I love this series! Ryk Brown has continued to to improve and enhance his universe. The characters jeep getting richer and more developed. Ryk's writing more.descriptive. I can't wait for the next.
