At the Orphans' Door

A new book of poetry. These poems are an invitation to the exiles and orphans of us all. How might it be to bring them back in, to know the peace of fewer factions out beyond the hearth? The clamouring at the orphans’ door is too urgent to ignore.

But, beyond the calamity and confusion/ And the shimmering children I've been,/ There is a bright figure, dancing,/ A man made of gold and light and// Oblivious to the dismay of the world,/ Exalting and triumphant as a trumpet,/ As nightingales, as daybreak, as eagles/ In the sky over the hungry-boned fields.// And by the woods is a man/ With the head of a deer,/ Forever springing back to the trees,/ Forever looking at us across the bright field,/ King of that lost country I call home.
