Cozy Nights in Vermont #2

Falling in Vermont

Rate this book
Sophia Bertone books a six week stay at a quintessential Vermont pumpkin farm planning to perfect her rustic fall recipes for her upcoming cookbook. But after raccoons take up residence in her rental cottage pantry and the thatched roof caves in at the height of leaf-peeping season, she has no other option than to move in with her landlord, a quiet flannel-clad pumpkin farmer.

Widower Blake Jameson should keep his eyes on his pumpkin patch at the height of the season, not the curvy goddess renter who moves in with him for six weeks. If he had the funds to house her anywhere else, he’d do it just to avoid temptation. She’s on her way back to Dallas soon and he can’t risk getting attached, not after feeling a spark after so long. But her apple cinnamon donuts, her bewitching smile, and the way she looks rumpled in the morning sunlight in his kitchen just might have him falling to his knees to make her stay.

4½ stars.

➕ What I liked :

Curvy/full-figured heroine. 👍

A confident curvy/full-figured heroine.👏👍

“Dad-bod”/ burly/husky hero…. That also is confident and has no issues with his body etc.

When the heroines body type/body size/shape is mentioned in any way it is either done so in a neutral way or more often in a positive or good way👍..... But 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝟏 deviation/exception to this that is mentioned in what I did not like about the book/plot.
There is No inferiority complex and no negative comparison to other women.👍
The heroines issues has nothing really to do with her looks or her body… but about her doubts and worries about her career and path in life etc.
But also a little bit about having a somewhat neglectful upbringing/childhood and being taken for granted by her parents/family etc.
The curvy/full-figured heroine is 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 written like any other heroine…like any other heroine of any other size...which is a really good thing.👍🙌👏👏

Sexually confident heroine.

“Older” heroine. (32)

Both main characters are 30+.

Hero is a farmer.

The hero is not a womanizer.

Good chemistry and romantic build up.

Intriguing and interesting main characters.

Good and interesting plot.

Some funny moments.

Some sweet moments.

A good hero.

Good steam.

➖ What I disliked:

Some parts were a little rushed even for a novella.

𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲/𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐞𝐭𝐜.
(The heroines personality was a little contradicting… she is confident and capable/competent and a take charge kind of heroine which is really good and great to read 👍👍👏….
But it also seems like that in the past (before meeting the hero) the heroine settled for dating and hooking up with men that indirectly and directly disrespected her/treated her badly or just did not care about her…. Or even were ashamed to be seen with her or just wanted sex and were commitment phobes (which the heroine also kind of seemed to be at times.🤔)
Why would a woman that is 30+ and is self- assured but also confident and capable/competent and a take charge kind of heroine settle for such men or even tolerate them? It is kind of contradicting?)

➖👎😒 A strange generalizing comment about curvy/full-bodied/plus sized women and who are attracted to them and how some are/can be treated by some men/people.
It is written in a weird way… that kind of gives of strange vibes/negative vibes about curvy/full-bodied/plus size women and who are attracted to them (like it is a anomaly/oddity or not normal behavior for men and people to show that they are attracted to and date curvy/full-bodied/plus sized women) …. And that most men and people who are attracted to them behave like that… 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙤 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙛𝙖𝙧 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡 𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚…..of course it sometimes happens and is not unrealistic (Just like it does for other reasons than body type.) But…...
It is just written in a way that is strange and generalizing and asinine… but also imprudent/simplistic…. But also it adds nothing to the story and seems superfluous after the heroine already mentioned other things about some men treating her like they did.

An utterly charming read about an endearing but uninspired chef/food blogger (FMC) and a widowed farmer with a struggling pumpkin patch (MMC).

The two soon find that combining the FMC’s culinary talents with the MMC’s farm is a winning duo. The Fall vibes were immaculate in this one, something about the mix of tropes, the food, the inspiration for the recipes, the classic farm activities, etc was perfection.

The MMC and FMC have undeniable chemistry, and the MMC is ready to find love again, a new love. They were just so sweet with each other… and spicy too👀🤫

Probably my favorite of Kennedy’s works by far!

Wow, 5 stars! I laughed, I cried, I swooned all within this short (~187 pages) spicy fall novella!

Curvy, bold, FMC Sophia decides to rent a cottage and “fall” in Vermont in hopes of sparking inspiration and meeting her looming fall cookbook deadline! 🍁🍂

And inspiration she finds renting a cottage on our beefy, flannel wearing, widower MMC Blake’s farm/pumpkin patch in a picturesque cozy small town.

This has all the cozy fall pumpkiny vibes mixed with Elise Kennedy’s scorching delicious heat (don’t let her cute covers fool you!) 🎃🥵

I was obsessed with this plus size, in their 30s, electric chemistry couple. Why the hell don’t we have more big (and I don’t mean ripped/jacked) MMCs?!?! Blake was perfection. 😍

Can’t recommend this enough for your fall TBR! 🍁

Thank you Elise Kennedy for an eARC!

I was excited to get to read Sophia’s story after Iris’ in “Fall Inn Love”.
Sophia and Blake seemed as if they were a good match and I enjoyed their will-they-or-won’t-they-tension.

I would have wished it was more of a slow-burn though- things got a bit too hot and heavy too quickly for my liking. Perhaps even a bit too hot and heavy, full stop- the spice was not to my liking.

The pumpkin vibes were everything though and please make Sophia’s cookbook become a reality ASAP!!

3.5 stars rounded down.

Grab your PSL, a blanket and an apple cider donut so you're prepared to binge this in one sitting!! This novella has all the fall vibes you could ask for and puts the SPICE in pumpkin spice, if you know what I mean!! In such a short amount of time, the characters are well developed, the plot is planned with care, and not a word is written without intent. Blake and Sophia have scorching tension, and when they get together, let's just say you'll need an ICED coffee or a fan. And their romance is absolutely swoonworthy! This is a feel good, spicy romance that will make you want to go spend fall on a pumpkin farm in Vermont now, or at least take up baking! And maybe find a fluffy bearded farmer to cozy up with!

Thank you Elise Kennedy for the advanced reader copy!! Release day is 10.1.24!

Elise Kennedy has done it again!

I’m in love with all of the warm, cozy feelings she brings to her seasonal novellas. This one in particular made me want to curl up with a nice cup of coffee or tea, and shove apple cider donuts into my face.

Sophia, our MFC, is an absolute riot. She cracked me up often, and I found myself relating to her quite a lot. She always wants to do a good job and take things on and help, even to the point of overwhelming herself.

I found the MMC, Blake, to be so sweet and thoughtful. I was always looking forward to his interactions with Sophia.

Overall, I thought this novella was great and perfect for fun autumn read. The only reason this didn’t get 5 stars from me was because it heavily features a k!nk that I am not into at all and that did affect my enjoyment a bit.

This book will make you:

✨crave, cook and bake all the autumn things. Pumpkin spice latte (selfmade sirup ofc), pumpkin spice cinnamon rolls and pumpkin soup anyone?!

✨ swoon. it will make you swoon so hard. It has all the autumn aesthetics and in the middle of it are two gorgeously thick people falling in love (I may still dream about Blake‘s thighs.)

✨want to FALL in Vermont and surround yourself with all the pumpkins. Not quite Vermont, but I very much enjoyed an autumn walk in between reading time!

PSA over.
Now onward with the actual information about the actual novella.
It‘s the second part in the Cozy Nights in Vermont series and I adored it just as much as part one: Fall Inn Love 🥰

This time we‘re travelling to Vermont with Sophia, who is a cooking force on social media and is currently looking for inspiration for her autumnal cookbook! Naturally, she rents a cottage on a pumpkin farm and lo and behold, receives a hot pumpkin farmer and his dog with it!
What ensues are cosy vibes and sexy times and I loved every second of it!

The banter is immaculate and i loved the way they cared for each other. Elise is a godess of small town romance and she never dissapoints! These will be annual rereads for sure 🥰

If youre looking for novellas to get this sweater weater season started: Fall Inn Love and Falling in Vermont are IT 🥰

This is the coziest fall novella! It made me want to bake all day and enjoy the fall weather (if it would get cold enough for that.) I loved Sophia and Blake and was so happy to have both MCs be plus size! They had the best chemistry and the spice was perfect! All they both wanted to do was take care of everyone around them. Blake was an absolute dreamboat! We need more big, burly, plus size MMCs in romance! Also so happy to see characters from the Clovely Inn again…they are a hoot!

Books and Authors mentioned: Snow White by The Brothers Grimm

Memorable Quotes: She loved a fluffy man. Someone she could feed and then ride as hard as she wanted.

He rocked her harder against him as air hissed out of a hole somewhere.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️½🍂🍁🍎🍏🎃🌲🏡👨‍🌾🦃

My thoughts: 🔖Page 85 of 178 Chapter Eight Sophia - The story is kinda cutesy, but the profanities and some of the lines between dialogue seem out of place, so it's hard to piece together. I also was annoyed that there were text graphics for the phone but no formatting for social media comments (I don't care if it was in the past or present), which caused me to have to reread those sections. I think the Plus-Size characters were the most attractive feature of the story, but they didn't sound plus-size on paper, more of an athletic build man with a soft tummy over abs and a curvy frame woman.
🔖115 Chapter Eleven Blake - This is dull, and I'm out of time. To be continued.

Overall, it was okay. I'm not going to remember Sophia and Blake come Christmas. The dialogue was not good, and then the scenes were 80s p🌽 bad. I almost skipped, but that's a DNF in my book. Next year, I will save my time instead of finishing such books. It would have been funny in audio.

Recommend to others: Maybe. This series is a quick read; you'll either laugh or cringe.

✨ARC Review✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

I am LOVING this series. This is the second novella, and it’s the perfect fall read to cozy up with a chai latte. It’s based in a small town during the fall season and there are several fall activities. Falling in Vermont is funny, warm, tender, and spicy.

✨ Sophia is staying at the pumpkin farm while she creates fall recipes for her cookbook. She is strong and used to taking care of herself. When she finds herself in need of help, Blake is there to offer it.

✨ Blake is the cinnamon roll farmer. He is protective, funny, and so caring of those around him. He isn’t looking for romance, but when Sophia comes into town, he immediately feels that spark.

✨ Blake and Sophia are opposites and I found that they fit perfectly together. Sophia isn’t used to getting help, but Blake was there to make sure she had all the help she needed. I loved that he took care of her and she baked all her recipes for him. When they’re forced to become roommates, the tension was burninggg. Blake was down for her immediately, but he tried to put as much space between them as he could. That doesn’t really work once you become roommates 😏

Falling In Vermont has:
🧡 Small town romance
🎃 Forced proximity
🧡 Opposites attract
🎃 Plus size fmc & mmc
🧡 Dual pov
🎃 He falls first
🧡 Roommates

Ps, it releases today!

Pps, I would love to get Sophia’s cookbook

Thank you @smalltown.romance for this ARC! 🫶🏼

Oh. My. Gosh. “Falling in Vermont” by Elise Kennedy is an adorably small town contemporary romance novella, and it’s Blake and Sophia’s love story.

Blake and Sophia had such an instantaneous connection as well as some seriously fiery chemistry, but their relationship was also heartfelt and genuine.

The way Blake did everything he could to show Sophia that she was loved just for who she was was so incredibly swoony. As for Sophia, I thought she was the loveliest, most kindhearted person.

They were both lovable characters, and their story really resonated with me. I also loved the cozy fall vibes, and the pumpkin farm setting. I highly recommend!

This is yet another amazing book written by Elise Kennedy! This novella brought me out of my reading slump, just in time for cozy Fall vibes. This is the perfect book to start of fall, the only way to make it better is if it came with a supply of Focaccia, Molasses Cookies, and my own personal Blake. Don’t let the cute cover and small number of pages fool you, this book is jam-packed with 🌶️🌶️🌶️ and all the cozy fall vibes. Be careful though - you might just end up booking a ticket to Vermont!

I want to get the physical copy so that I can highlight my favorite parts, but I think I’d run out of highlighter ink before this short but spicy book ends. If you have the time to read this book (which you should, even if you have to make time) I’d highly recommend it!

Thank you Elise Kennedy for the eARC copy!!!

I have mixed feelings about this book. Although I really enjoyed the story of Sophia and Blake falling in love in a cozy Vermont town, I could have done without the explicit and graphic (basically pornographic) sex segments. I am no prude but it was over the top for me as I was hoping for more of a cozy fall read and the graphic sex descriptions kind of ruined it for me.

"Just let me take care of you, okay?"

Summary
Sophia decides to rent a cottage on a pumpkin farm in Vermont as she attempts to finalize the recipes in her upcoming fall cookbook. She is there only a few days when the roof of the cottage crashes in from a fallen tree, forcing Sophia to move into the very attractive farmer Blake's main house. Blake's wife passed away a few years ago and it isn't until Sophia marches onto the farm with her delicious recipes, gorgeous curves, and ideas of how to improve the visitor experience on his farm, that he feels an unexpected spark again.

Why did I pick up this book?
I love Kennedy's stories so much, having read each of them either before or immediately after release. I was gifted this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review, but I would have read and reviewed it regardless! Always excited to support Kennedy's work.

What did I enjoy about it?
I felt so seen in reading this book! I share so many traits with Sophia, including the responsibility I feel to take care of others, my desire to jump in and improve situations where I see opportunities, and the pressure I put on myself to excel at everything I take on. I love how seamlessly these two fit into each other's lives from the beginning of their friendship, and how much they both wanted to take care of each other. Not to mention the fall vibes were immaculate and the spice was as hot as I've come to expect from Kennedy!

What did I not enjoy about it?
I SO appreciate that Blake didn't have 16 abs and that Sophia wasn't a tiny little lady, and that these two were representative of (and attractive as) so many of us. However, I felt there were maybe a few too many reminders of their size and curves. Also, it felt really weird to me that they never spoke of Blake's wife on page. It didn't have to be a whole big thing, and I know it was a novella, but it seemed strange that they could fall in love so quickly without addressing this big piece of his life.

This book could've been 80000 pages and I still would've binged it in one sitting.

First of all, this book has the perfect fall vibes. I'm talking grab your chunky knit sweater, drink a hot beverage, and rewatch Gilmore Girls kinda vibes. Absolutely amazing. I'm trying to look up houses in Vermont while writing this review.

I love these characters so so much. We were first introduced to Sophia and Blake in Fall Inn Love (another 5 star read that you should definitely read), and I knew even then that I would love this book. For the record, I was so right. Sophia is a classic eldest daughter and a baking influencer. Blake is the hot widowed farmer that blushes at everything. I owe my pillow $2 million in emotional damages after all the screaming and squealing I did into it. They had amazing development, especially for a novella.

The side characters deserve their own paragraph. Blake's family is amazing. They're hilarious and supportive and seem like the kind of people you meet once and think about for the rest of your life. We also get cameos from Iris and Sam (the characters from Fall Inn Love), which was so fun. All the characters were fleshed-out and extremely vivid. I'm half-convinced I could drive to Vermont and find them.

The romance. THE ROMANCE. I will not get married until I can find a kind of love like Sophia and Blake. They support each other and they tease and they show love in all the best ways. I need twenty more books of just Sophia and Blake being in love together because they're that good.

This is also a spicy book, and I'm here to tell you it's amazing. I can't think of a funny pun to add here so just pretend I said something super witty and charming about pumpkin spice. Thanks.

In short, I will be emailing Goodreads to make them change the rating system on here because this book deserves more than 5 stars.

Thank you to the author for the e-copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

𝗕𝗟𝗨𝗥𝗕: Sophia has took her sister’s advice to visit Vermont for the fall to inspire her for her cookbook. She certainly can’t be writing recipes for rustic fall vibes when she’s profusely sweating in Dallas. When Sophia arrives, she is utterly surprised at how well her temporary landlord, Blake, has already welcomed her to his cottage. Blake owns a local pumpkin farm & is also a widower. Blake is stunned when he first meets Sophia. He hasn’t felt this attracted to someone since his late wife. Sophia tests all of her fall recipes with Blake & then they come up with the brilliant idea that Sophia will create her recipes & share them with Blake’s customers. Not only are they working together, but when a tree falls on the cottage, Blake invites Sophia to stay with him till the repairs on the cottage are completed. It becomes very difficult for both of them to hide their feelings for one another!

𝗠𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦: This book is the PERFECT novella for October since it has all the fall vibes! This book is just perfectly cozy that includes all the sweet & spicy moments for a romance reader. Sophia is so funny & also trying to find her passion while visiting Vermont. She does a lot of soul searching because maintaining a social media presence for her recipes & cookbooks seems to be wearing her out. Blake is such a sweet & gentle soul who goes out of his way for others. The way he cares for Sophia had my heart just melting! I absolutely loved how Elise made both of the characters plus size. I love seeing that type of representation in romance books. Overall, this was an amazing little novella to kick off the season of fall with!

🍂Falling in Vermont🍂

This is the #2 story in The Cozy Nights in Vermont collection. Sophia has been struggling with creating new recipes for her second cookbook, and she needs a cozy place to get some inspiration. Vermont in the fall is the key! She books a small little cabin next to a pumpkin patch for six weeks. The owner, Blake, is a widower who mostly keeps to himself but instantly falls for Sophia as soon as she arrives. Sophia gets to work baking away her new ideas until a rotten tree behind the cabin breaks and lands directly into the cabin. This throws a kink into Sophia plan, but she bounces back quick when she asks if she can stay in Blakes home with him. He is worried about this, but also doesn't want her to leave so he agrees. This is where all the wonderful smells from his kitchen began to flow, and the roommate sexual tension only grew stronger. He loved everything about her. The ideas Sophia contributed to Blakes pumpkin patch business had made a significant improvement to his finances, and he wasn't sure how to thank her for working so hard. She loved how comfortable she was with this complete stranger, and he constantly took care of her. This is something she had never experienced before and wasn't quite sure how to navigate it. Could she see herself staying in Vermont? Or should she go back to Dallas? She had never been happier with this insta family, but she needed to figure out a way to have it all.

I ate this story up, just like the first one! When I tell you I laughed out loud, and shed tears of joy for these characters I am not joking. The writing style of Elise Kennedy is so immersive I felt like I was there with each character in every moment. The instant attraction they both had to one another for who they were inside and out was so beautiful. Oh and the spice was spicing in this one so make sure you are open to sweet, sexy, and beautifully written spice. I love that they are more realistic than what I typically read.
