When We Once Loved

Rate this book
Tom Miller hasn’t seen Ellie Saunders since they were ripped apart from one another more than 30 years ago. So, why did she write to him now, saying she’d be waiting for him in the place where they first met? Against his better judgment, Tom drives to Arcadia Falls, where he encounters a mysterious woman in black. As he follows her through the desolate town, the past comes alive. With no control over these events, Tom relives his intimate memories with Ellie. However, his memories also hide horrid visions of his time in war. Tom must overcome the ghosts of yesterday and find where Ellie is waiting.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 and all the feels

The title and the cover should have given it away that this was going to be an emotional rollercoaster!

Heck, the synopsis practically gave it away, and what did I do?

Of course i still picked it up!

Call it whatever you want to call it but I needed something clean and wholesome to read after the horror of last month which I can gladly say ive put behind me.

And like clockwork, every time I say I need a palate cleanse, I somehow end up diving straight back into horror, filth, gore, and blood, as this novella left Bella and I complete and utter wrecks.

This novella was so well written, almost cinematic in its delivery, making me feel I was actually living my life, watching Ellie and Tom's romance in real life.

From the setting to the clothing, my brother from another mother can do no wrong, and the pacing was just absolutely fantastic that I devoured it in one sitting.

If I were to base this book on a movie, I would say Jacob’s Ladder meets The Others, meets the Notebook, because it's not just about Tom’s journey through Arcadia Falls to find Ellie, it’s about also facing the past that’s been haunting him all along.

It may be a love story but this novella also captured the devastation of war.

Of bodies blown to bits, of men losing limbs, and the way Honeybrook was able to blend and combine all those aspects into one, not just focussing on one thing made this one hell of an unforgettable story.
