I'm literally in love with this manhwa!!! Both of them are professional athletes and they're amazing! Skating and swimming is the best combination! I'm so happy that everyone supports them!!!
The side stories made me rate it 4 stars and not 3.5/3. At start I wanted to rate it less, bcs there was way too much drama and I was getting annoyed by the Omega. I liked the Alpha's personality. The baby was cute and the finale too. I wish we had more chapters in the future setting, though.
4/10 ummm so like i was not hooked at all, it had an ok plot but idk it just wasn’t that interesting. the 2 main characters just kept having stupid excuses for distancing themselves and it was the same thing over and OVER again. i forced myself to complete it cause i thought it would get better but it just didn’t
I don't know how the number of chapters are cut into volumes but I will just rate this first volume. I basically finished the main story and the first parts of the side stories. And all I can say is that they're really so cute, especially Yi-ho. But that's just it. It's nothing too extraordinary or what, but I won't deny that I enjoyed some of its parts. I just felt bored at some of it. Well, that's just me.
There's a lot of miscommunication conflicts that surrounded them and I get why is that because of their personalities and past but the story, imo, didn't have time to really tackle those things aside from resolving them. I'm not really complaining but I believe it'll be a more interesting to me if it's like that because I feel like everything is rushed. The sides stories are also long? I wonder why the author didn't just decide to write it as another season.
Anyways, it's still a nice read. Maybe I just expected too much or I'm not on the right state of mind to read it right now. Maybe I'll give it a try again next time and or continue where I left it on the side stories.
A lot of these two issues could've been resolved if they coped with their trauma instead of running from it. Like you have a lot of money, please go to therapy.
Anyway, I thought this was really cute and I enjoyed it. The baby was especially cute and I liked the bonus stories. Towards the end of the main story it felt like the conflict dragged too long that it was getting a little annoying. Yi-Rim constantly running and pushing away felt like too much. The author could've condensed that and focused on some of the other aspects of the plot that was basically brushed away like the helmet guy, Cheong-ho coping with his trauma, Yi-Rim's illness. All of that felt very underdeveloped and not well explained. I had a good time with it, but the story telling definitely could've been better.
This is cute, but mostly fluff and smut. The story, such as it is, is very simple and takes longer than necessary to tell. Both characters have more or less one primary personality trait and one primary flaw/problem in their backstory to overcome, meaning there's not much to go on. They're cute together, but the relationship doesn't really develop much. One is just instantly in love with the other, who resists, and then the tables turn and its the other single-mindedly chasing the first who is now running away.
Overall, cute but not especially memorable. The best parts of the story are the art, which really highlights how adorable the MC is (the primary hook of the story), and the panels where they're both pursuing their athletic careers, because they're drawn beautifully.
it's been a while since i've read smth quite so melodramatic 😂 surge towards you achieved in its first 15 chapters what is the entire plot of some other manhwa lmao juho is peak wingman he's holding this entire thing together 🏍
I actually read Surge Towards You a few months ago, but never got the chance to write my review until now 😅 So please forgive me 🙏
Surge Towards You has been showing in my FYP for quite a while now, but it’s just recently that I decided to give it a try. The art was what sold me out at first because the baby looks sooooooo cute 😍
I actually think that the romance started pretty well and progressed quite fast. When I checked the number of chapters, ok, that makes sense. The only thing I didn’t like was the drama. For me, the “running away trope” is already overused. There’s really nothing new in this manhwa, but I really find the main character’s backstory quite fascinating. Overall, I think this is an ok bl story.
As for the main characters, the alpha really stood out for me. Considering his trauma and how detached he was in the beginning, I didn’t expect that he would be the one who fights more to make their relationship work. He was quite annoying at first so I really thought I will end this story not liking his character, lol. I really like his backstory and character development.
The omega on the other hand was really funny at first lol. He always speaks his mind in a clueless way that really stresses out the alpha, wahahaha. His backstory is really sad and I’m glad that in the end he was able to work on it and get better in the end. Unfortunately, he was really annoying on the “running away” part, so minus points for that, wahahhahaha.
For the art, it actually reminded me so much of Love is an Illusion because it also started with a black and white art. I thought we would only get the colored art in the special chapters, so I was really delighted when season 2 came in with full colored art! The art really looks amazing, and should I say that Yi-ho is probably one of the top cutest babies in manhwa world?! He’s so cute and chunky. Those cheeks just waiting to be pinch 😍 And when he smiles, he looks like an angel, uwaaaahhhhh!
Anyway, the main story finished at chapter 50, but the creator gave us almost the same amount of side stories so I am really happy! It’s great seeing more of our cute baby Yi-ho and seeing how the couple’s relationship progressed considering they conceived pretty early in the story.
If you are looking for a decent story with a very cute art, you might want to try Surge Towards You. Happy reading!
📖 Summary: In this emotionally charged sports BL, two athletes from very different worlds are forced into a close-quarters situation — and neither one is ready for what that means.
Minjae, the figure skater, is prickly, precise, and emotionally guarded — think “I don’t need anyone” energy with Olympian grace and ice in his veins.
Yeonwoo, the swimmer, is warm, steady, and unflinchingly kind — the kind of boy who can’t stop helping even if he gets hurt in the process.
After an unexpected injury, Minjae is sent to the countryside to recover. Yeonwoo, a former classmate turned local swimming coach, becomes part of his forced rest period. Cue awkward reunions, lingering stares, and a past neither of them has really let go of.
Expect:
Tension so thick you could slice it with a skate blade
Old wounds reopened by proximity
Quiet scenes of shared meals and quiet confessions
Water as a metaphor for emotional pressure (and release)
One blanket. Two boys. So many feelings.
💖 Character Reactions:
❄️ Minjae — Cold on the outside, melting slowly inside. He’s sharp-tongued, self-isolating, and emotionally repressed. But behind the arrogance? A deep fear of vulnerability — especially around Yeonwoo.
🌊 Yeonwoo — Sunshine boy with deep sadness under the surface. Patient, understanding, but not naive. He knows what Minjae pushes away — and why. And he still reaches out anyway.
✨ Heart-thudding moments:
That hallway conversation where neither can look at the other
The swimming scene where Minjae watches but says nothing
“You’ve always run away.”
The hand-holding moment that wasn’t meant to happen — but did
🔥 Smut Level: Low heat so far — this volume is all about tension. Touches that linger. Stares that say what words don’t. But the way Minjae breathes when Yeonwoo gets close? 🥵 #SmutTags: #SlowBurnAthleteEdition #TooCloseInTheLivingRoom #SwimmingPoolTension #IceSkaterWithWalls #InjuredAndVulnerable
