From the Great Poets series--exquisite small-format collections of classic poetry enhanced by full-color reproductions of period art, and readable, scholarly introductions. 12 full-color illustrations.
This addition to the Great English Poets series features the work of the poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Her poems had a few interesting themes, such as everyday life, romance, consent, and feminism. There were a couple of her more general poems in this book, but they were well written nonetheless.
She has many amazing poems showcased in the book, my favorite being: The Lady's Yes. This articular poem deals with unwanted romantic advances, and the persona telling the pursuit to find the one who will love him in return. This poem is particularly amazing in my eyes due to the time it was written in. Its amazing that Browning stood up for women in this way.
I would rate this book 4 stars. I would rate this book 5 if the introduction was not as confusing and boring. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy poetry and reading about female poets. The introduction in the book by Oprah wasn't my favorite, but some may find it interesting. The gem of this book is definitely the poems themselves.
ang ganda nung images depicting the actual peoms themselves. a vv light read. dsurv ni mareng elizabeth ang ma recognize. loved reading the poems that were unpublished. the lyricism was light yet impactful with feminine touches. she didnt just make poems abt love like how do i love thee but also progressive social ideas at her time and esp position as a privileged victorian. i finished this one kahit may tatlo pa ako na pending <3
