I didn’t flee one monster just to be claimed by another.
When the Monster Relations Bureau tells me I've been identified as a kraken shifter's mate, my first instinct is to run. I learned the hard way what it means to be treated like someone’s possession, and I’m not about to make the same mistake twice.
Only, Elias is… different. Patient and careful with me, willing to wait as long as it takes for me to let him in. The more I learn to trust him, and the more he draws me under with the dark temptation of his touch, the more the defenses I’ve held onto so long start to crumble.
Still, he’s not the only monster I’ve dealt with. And when the human monster from my past finally catches up with me, I’ll have to decide if I trust Elias enough to let him help me, protect me, claim me as his, even though being possessed has only ever left me broken and afraid.

Hi, I'm Leigh! I am an indie romance author who writes mainly in the fantasy and paranormal genres. I've been a romance fanatic since the first time I snuck one of my mom's Harlequin paperbacks, and never looked back.
When I'm not writing, I spend a ton of time outdoors camping, hiking, and taking photos. I'm also big into tarot, astrology, and all things witchy,
This was so cute! The story is light hearted, fast paced, and full of steam. I loved how the kraken MC was so devoted to the FMC and careful to not put any pressure on her despite being fated mates and completely invested in their relationship from the beginning. The two had time to get to know each other and decide how they wanted their relationship to look and I loved how that connected with the FMC's backstory and hesitance on falling in love and trusting someone. The two were so gentle with each other and it was absolutely adorable to read about them falling in love.
3.5 “I would have waited a thousands years for you, little siren. Gladly.”
Obviamente.
“I don’t know how to put all of that fear aside and just trust people. ”
« My mate. Satisfied. Happy. Utterly fucked-out and mine. »
« Nora’s a siren made to tempt me, to draw me in with the song of her very being. I could be anywhere in any of the seven seas, and she’d be the light that always beckons me back to shore. »
Tentacles should be more popular.

Well, Elias is a sweetheart and super hot. 3 different forms? What more could a girl ask for?
Nora is super sweet, and her fears are justified. It felt a bit refreshing having an fmc questioning the mate bond.
The spice? Great. Would I have wanted more? Yup but what there was worked with the story.
For a short romance, I thought this was a well-done book! Cute and steamy!
NORA'S KRAKEN was a very spicy read and I liked both Nora and Elias. I especially liked how soft and in love Elias was and the fact that he's ready to worship the ground Nora walks on. Because of Nora's past she's reluctant at first to get involved with someone but Elias lets her take things at her pace and he always respects her boundaries. I do think that Nora goes from fearing Elias to getting involved rather quickly but we'll blame it on the fated mates trope.
In the grand scheme of things this book was great, but I couldn't help but find myself bored once I hit the halfway point. Maybe it was just me, but it was nowhere close to how I felt about this author's first book, DEMON'S BRIDE, which I loved so much. If you like tentacle monsters and gentle MMCs then give this one a try, because it might work better for you.

“So that’s what I am?” I ask, breathless. “A snack?”
“You’re a whole damn meal, little siren.” Without warning, he reaches down and grabs me, lifting me up and tossing me over his shoulder. “And I’m famished.”
Did I think I would actually like this? No. But did I anyway? Absolutely.
I devoured this. Elias is a KING and the romance was so cute that it had me swooning and unable to put it down. The writing style was also impeccable -- very easy to read with only a few typos here and there. I breezed through this book.
The only criticism I really have is that the whole resolution of the main point of conflict was a bit anti-climactic, and a little less dramatic than I had hoped it would be leading up. Oh well. Still a really fun read.
I think this a cute and fun light romance read if you aren't looking for anything serious. It was a little to instalovey for me and I wish we had gotten either more action or more of the kraken's backstory because I thought the most interesting part was that he use to be an actual pirate. The romance itself was a little bland for me and I lost interest in the development because it seemed to instantly change and there was a lot of back and forth which was more annoying than anything. The subplot of the ex also wasn't the best, it felt a little off and there was no actual use for it other than to give the hot and cold in the kraken/human budding romance.
I think the smut was pretty great and one of the few reasons I kept reading the book. I was a little disappointed with the book just because I thought it could do so much and it didn't. The epilogue was nice but I didn't care that this wasn't included in the main plot.
While I can’t resist a book with a kraken shifter, I don’t like reading about intimate partner violence because it’s rarely handled well. However, I really enjoyed this author’s debut so I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. Unfortunately, this took the predictable route of so many books that center around partner violence. My kingdom for this to just have been part of Nora’s past instead of serving as the central conflict. She left Daniel three years ago so there’s no reason he had to be part of this story. Nora and Elias still could have worked through the aftereffects of that trauma while getting to know each other. Even the bigotry the big paranormal department is working through still could have figured in without Daniel needing to be involved.
But let’s say for the sake of argument, this conflict was the best choice for Nora and Elias’s book. It still wasn’t handled well. Nora’s boyfriend was primarily emotionally abusive and controlling. He shook her one time and she escaped later that night. She left three years prior when the book begins. It didn’t seem like Nora had ever worked with an intimate partner violence agency. She didn’t seem to have a safety plan in place before she met Elias. She’s never seen a therapist. Those are all red flags in terms of representation for me.
In terms of the actual story: The resolution happened too close to the end. Nora says she’s going to see a trauma therapist at the end but we don't get to see any of her healing or recovery on page. If you don’t have strong opinions about the depiction of partner violence, then these plot choices might not bother you. This seems like a good time to point people to this helpful interview with author and social worker Adriana Herrera: Domestic Violence in Romance.
Elias took excellent care of Nora, always careful not to rush her and to let her set the pace. And he definitely knows how to put those tentacles to good use! I really liked him and liked them together. I just didn’t care for the partner violence plot device.
Characters: Elias is a 313 year old white British kraken shifter, CEO, and ex-pirate. His mating tentacle has ridges. Nora is a 27 year old white bookstore shift manager. This is set in Seattle.
Content notes: intimate partner violence , stalker ex, on page confrontation with abuser, attempted abduction, anti-paranormal bigotry, fatphobia (FMC’s ex), diet culture, past death of secondary character’s mate, facial scar, family planning discussion (kraken males produce eggs which they pass onto their female mate to carry), unsafe sex practices (condomless sex without discussion of pregnancy or STI prevention; afterward discuss and she’s on birth control. Krakens only reproduce when they’re in heat), on page sex, tentacle sex, DP, primal play (in water), bondage, office sex, shower sex, pool sex, alcohol, casual ableism around mental illness, STD stigma, gendered pejoratives, gender essentialist language, ableist language, mention that FMC’s father left when she was a baby
This is an enjoyable short read, perfect as a palate cleanser. The plot was somewhat interesting, although not something I really enjoyed. The spice was good, and the characters were fine. The book was just fine, but nothing perfect. It's definitely not bad, though.
TW/CW: mentions of emotionally abusive and manipulative relationship, trauma, attempted kidnapping, gun, mentions of loss.
ABOUT: A human womans safe and quiet new life is upturned when the Monster Relations Bureau tracks her down for a shapeshifting Kraken, putting her new life at risk.
THOUGHTS:
I wasn't as in love with this as I was hoping to be, but it was still a good read! It's a cute little erotic romance. Despite Elias letting Nora figure out if she wants a relationship with him, it's not a slow burn. You know, mate bond and all. What I love most about this book and its depiction of the mate-bond is: 1) it doesn't feel forced. 2.) it's not used in every single sentence as an excuse for their uncontrollable actions towards each other.
Nora's character growth/rediscovering herself after all that time is so wholesome. With the help of a Kraken, she comes out of her shell. She finds comfort and safety with Elias, which is something she never had in her previous life. I loved reading the evolving relationship between the two of them. Elias never rushed her into anything or treated her like she was a broken and fragile being. She was scared. He just offered her safety, but only if she allowed.
He called her "his siren"!!!
The only thing I disliked was the lack of worldbuilding or insight to the whole Monster Bureau world. We get simple statements and facts every now and then, but it's briefly mentioned before being pushed aside without introducing the readers to this universe of "monsters". Also, I hated how Nora's friends were randomly introduced and then never seen again outside of a brief mention. Yes, I know this is one of those books where it's two love birds are up each other's ass every second (not complaining I love characters being up each other's ass), but it would have been great development for Nora's character to see her friends more. (IMO)
I think i have a thing for sea creature romances! 😂 This is my second one and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s so cute and warm and all sweet and it’s also steamy and hot at the same time. I love Elias and Nora and the communication and love and bond they have. It’s fast paced and fun and sweet and makes you feel feels, if you know what I mean! 😂
I loved Elias and Nora! The slow burn was a little frustrating at times, but the way he treated her trauma was beautiful. I'm so excited for the next one.
I have to say, monster romances are not my thing. I can’t get around it, can’t wrap my head around it, but I love fantasy and romance so I figured I’d give it a try since I like Leigh Miller.
One thing I will say about this book, besides the fact that it’s incredibly well written, is that the love between Elias and Nora is incredibly sweet and completely unproblematic. The way he supports her, allows her to set the pace, never takes anything for granted and allows her the space to grow and learn what she wants and what she needs, it’s a breath of fresh air among all the possessive “mine” dark romances that I’ve been seeing everywhere. Definitely something that needs to be written more in romance/fantasy today.
3 I guess? KindleUnlimited. The characters are fine? To be completely honest, I got to the 54% mark and... I didn't super feel like I needed to read the rest- but I did. Mainly because it is KU, and I was still going to flip through the all the pages anyway
Elias is great- attractive/sweet/considerate/protective. Nora gets saddled bringing the angst/baggage- doing a lot of scared angry chicken
I don't find the abusive ex plot... titillating? Whatever it's supposed to be. I was wrong in expecting a third act break up/melt down from it though. So there's a plus. Instead there was sex and...sex. Then the run in with the ex and blah blah blah
I'm neutral on whether it was worth finishing. It wasn't bad. It was fine
This was such a cute take on a Kraken/human monster romance!!

This book was such a good pallet cleanser after being in a bit of a slump for the last week or so! If you love monster romances with dynamic characters, found family, stalker exs, and a whole lot of spice than I highly recommend this book to you.
I absolutely adored the characters in this, now since I’m always honest with y’all I’ll admit Nora was not my favorite starting off, she carried a lot of baggage and came off a little bit to meek in my opinion, but about 30-40% through the book she starts to make a change! A change to not live under her baggage’s shadow anymore and do what she wants to do with her life not continue to be dictated by her past. And once she made that change she became much more endearing to me. She started to get a bit more backbone to her and live for her future and actually do things to achieve those future goals! She also started to finally start trying to get to know and acknowledge our MMC and one that happened then relationship between them blossomed into something beautiful and totally relatable… well to a point, I mean this is a monster romance after all 😈. Speaking of monsters… our MMC Elias whoo there were quite a few times I found myself fanning myself from the things he would say. But honestly I loved everything about Elias! He was so patient, open and honest with Nora and giving her space when she needed it, and letting her lead even though he was a possessive kraken who had just found his mate and wanted nothing more than to claim her and treasure her!! Truly one of the sweetest romances I’ve read in a while, and was kind of a great break into sweet romance, since I’ll be honest I’ve been reading a lot of dark romances or more angsty romances lately!! Truly I recommend this book to all who want a sweet and spicy twist on kraken monster romances!
I absolutely fell in love with this story. Started and finished in a few hours because I just could not put it down. Fated mates and a kraken who would do anything for his mate, including letting her take her time to decide…. Swoon. The plot was engaging and the spice was spicing!!!
Can’t wait to read more from this author. Highly recommen
This book was such a great read. I loved it so much. I devoured it in just a few hours! I want a whole world with the Monster Relations Bureau. And a tv show. I would watch the crap out of that.
So anyway. So good. I loved all of it. The story line. The 🥵. The characters. Obsessed.
Idk how to get on the ARC team for this series but someone sign me up for it!!! I have no patience to wait 🤣
Nothing beats a monster romance to cleanse the reading palate. I literally read this book in less than 24 hours. It would have been faster if I didn't have normal life plans. This is a great book if you are suffering a reading hangover and need something quick and spicy to get out of a slump.
The main couple was absolutely adorable. Nora has some trauma to work through and Elias is very patient and understanding. Even though there is a lot of spice, there is still a good plot and the start of some world building. The book was a little rough around the edges, but still enjoyable.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and will be continuing the series. I also really like a book series that focuses on a different couple every book.
"My world comes crashing down around me on a Friday afternoon." Think it is my first monster romance, honestly did not realise it would be a monster romance. Did not connect that title at all. Feelt kund of cute at times and a lot of weird smut at other times but a very fun read all together. Will definitely read the next book.
This was fine then it started dragging. The pity party they both had for themselves got on my nerves. Especially Elias’ woe-is-me attitude. Nora’s was understandable but it got repetitive towards the end. Also this kraken spends 90% of the book in human form, which was a disappointment.
Nonetheless, it was written well and fun for most of it. Enjoyed Elias as the love interest.
What a great read! Holy moly. From the spice (5/5), to the drama and twists, to the cute little love story that blooms. I was here for this book and definitely recommend!
Can’t tell you what the story is about or what happened, aside from the kraken and the things mentioned above. The story didn’t connect with me in the least.
