Storm Force #0.1-0.5
Storm Front
Tina Storm has never been a normal teenager. She’s a demon hunter with the gift of a lightning vanquish, an inherited power from a long line of Storm demon hunters and researchers.
Blessed with a natural gift for finding and fighting dangerous demons, and keeping the human populace safe and unaware, Tina also struggles with her daily life:
• Keeping an after-school job: check.
• Participation in the school play: check.
• Getting a date with the cute loner boy from art class: check.
All the while, Tina keeps her city safe by fighting a German water demon stalking her boyfriend, facing off with a vampire, and tracking a serial killer murdering her classmates.
STORM FRONT consists of five urban fantasy short stories that trace Tina’s adventures as she moves to a new town and starts a new school.
Also included in this collection is the bonus novella THE ARCHIVE OF LOST DREAMS, four paranormal short stories about lost dreams, guardian angels, Victorian secrets and fairies.

December 26, 2011Wanna know some trivia?
Tina Storm's real name is Christina.
Tina's stories are based in a specific Australian city, but I won't name it.
Every demon that appears in Tina's stories are based on mythological creatures from around the world. I use them in an Australian setting because Australia is an enormous cultural melting pot.
Tina will have her own full-length novel some time in 2013 (including characters we meet in this collection).

These stories were fun, entertaining and easy to read.
My only gripe with the whole collection is one paragraph where Tina
It's not the sort of thing I usually read, but I fee like I have gotten to know Tina (it helps that I read one of the stories several years ago) and I'm looking forward to reading more Tina stories!
Well done, Lissa :)

Fun, ultra quick adventures in the life of Tina Storm; a girl with awesome powers, and a spunky attitude. Each story takes place at a different time in Tina's life, and shows what--I think--will be important clues about her past. The last story, Weather the Storm, really gives us a look into the good and bad parts of Tina's life, and is my favorite story of the bunch.

Super-short, entertaining stories by a good Goodreads friend of mine that sort-of reminds me of Rachel Caine (and I don't know why that is!).
I look forward to reading more from Bilyk.

This review is based on the five short stories that involve the character of Tina Storm, which are available for free on Smashwords. I did not read the additional short stories contained in the second part of the book, the "novella"--technically, an anthology, not a novella--called "An Archive of Lost Dreams" (nor would I have).
I thought that the plot of some of the stories had potential, as did the character of Tina Storm. However, the writing was pretty weak, and I thought it was marked by some amateur mistakes:
1. Lack of world-building: Some information is contained in an info-dump at the beginning of the second story, but it is a bit unbelievable. For example, everyone with the surname Storm is either a demon-hunter or serves to help the demon-hunters. And yet, we never get the bigger picture about what demons are, where they come from, do normal people know about them, etc. The Storms are just "demon-hunters", and they go after the demon of the week in each story. The conceptualization of this world feels incomplete.
2. Lack of setting description: There's very little description of the places--the city, Tina's school, Tina's house, a Chinese supermarket, etc. I didn't get any kind of picture of the world that Tina lived in. People are described briefly, but not much beyond that.
3. Finally--and this is one of my pet peeves, so I'm more likely that not to notice it--is that dialogue tags other than "said" are used quite a bit.
I was also confused about Tina's age/school. The second story supposedly takes place during her first year in college, yet there are references to a car "speeding in a school zone", the school auditorium, the school's yearly musical, "art class" (just that generic), etc. which all seem more like references to high school than college. Tina also notices when a new boy enrolls in school. Again, this sounds more like high school than a college of any size. Later, Tina's age is mentioned as 17. So is she in college or high school?
Again, I think that these stories have potential, but they need to be developed more into a complete depiction of the world and characters. Verdict: 1.5 stars.

When I signed up for a read to review for book one (Storm of Blood) and I noticed that this prequel was free I picked it up and started with it. There were five short stories in this Novela each one about a different hunt Tina (Christina Storm) was a part of. I like Tina she strong, powerful and very smart. We not only see Tina have run in's with Monsters but also love and I am sorry they did not all end well, I hope when I continue on to book one she will find her happiness.
