Stolen Harlots #3

Wagered to the Orc

Rate this book
I am no stranger to being owned by a male, but my new master is something I never imagined…

In my years in the Tarbert household, I have learned my worthlessness, and I pray that being sent with my distant cousin on her way to her new marriage might grant me a chance at some value. I see that hope disappear when our small party is attacked on the way to the wedding…by orcs.

I never imagined the old legends to be true, but I cannot deny them now; these primitive beasts have stolen me and can do what they wish with my body. But one…one protects me. He takes me as spoils of a wager.

I know what I must I must make him value me so he will not share me with the others. I must be bold, brazen, and hope he claims me as his own. Why does such a thought not fill me with dread?

Another super-spicy, instalove romp featuring the Harlot’s Guide’s list of positions.

Wagered to the Orc by Veronika Kane and Carolyn Lee
Stolen Harlets series #3. Paranormal historical romance novella with erotica elements. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series. 1st person alternating POV.
Effie and her two cousins were betrayed by one of the guards and kidnapped by Orcs. The bargain was for Sorcha alone but all three were taken, then split up to avoid being followed back to their village behind the hidden veil to their lands. Effie is terrified as she’s being held too tightly and then traded as spoils of war. But the scarred green Orc she’s now dependent on is careful with her, patient, and kind. From the servant class, Effie is not naive and knows how to use men for protection when necessary. It’s never pleasant but better to manage expectations. She joins in and helps with all tasks and learns everything from gardening, to caring for the horses, cooking, and even helping with the washing. Of the Orc. It’s not unpleasant.

Korvak never expected to come home with a tiny human but seeing her suffering under the hands of the Orc that claimed her doesn’t sit well with him. He claims her for himself and they end up together in his secluded cabin for two weeks to avoid being followed. He’s shocked when she offers herself to him in payment. Is that what her world has been? Trading herself for protection from others? He’ll show her kindness and a better world. And maybe eventually some pleasure as it’s clear she doesn’t expect that from any man.

A quick and steamy forced relationship turns to love and respect. They can’t resist each other. These Orcs are such gentleman and kissable at the same time. Yum.

3.5 🌟

Oh, poor main characters, especially her 😭. I loved how, despite their differences, he tried to understand her, comfort her, and eventually love her just the way she needed.

Of course, her feelings were the same, since surprise, they were fated mates.

Quite short, sometimes it was redundant, but being such a short read, it was fine.

What to expect
- spicy, but not overdone
- orc H + human h
- they discover they are fated mates after he saves her from the hands of his idiotic cousin
- HEA

In this third and final installment of the Stolen Harlots novellas, Effie, who is cousin to the sisters Sorcha and Roxanna, is claimed by Korvak after a group of orcs travel through a standing stone circle. Initially taken by cruel Moltar, Effie is saved by Korvak, twin brother to the Chief of the Bladesedge Clan, who won a wager during the raid. Korvak initially doesn't want responsibility for Effie, a weak and pitiful human. But Effie isn't weak, she only appears that way because being meek, obedient, and subservient has proven to be the easiest way for her to survive past cruelty at the hands of men. When they arrive at his cottage, Effie does what she can to make herself useful to Korvak, including offering herself to him even though she is somewhat scared of his "beastly" appearance. While he is sorely tempted, he realizes she has been hurt in the past and becomes protective of her. As they both learn to trust each other in the confines of a small cottage isolated from the main orc village, their connection can't be denied.

I loved this novella where both the hero and heroine are "damaged" and find healing together. Korvak is physically scarred and believes himself to be ugly/beastly, which is why he has lived in solitude for a while, caring for animals that won't hurt his feelings. Effie, as a poor relation to Sorcha and Roxanna, did not have the protections of her cousins and sadly learned the hard way that as a woman, bartering her body was the best way to have a little control over her circumstances. Although Effie is strong, she lacks self-worth and believes the only way she can be of use to a male is to essentially enter servitude to him. Together, Effie and Korvak build trust in each other and accept each other for who they are, finding comfort in taking care of each other when needed. Even though their relationship begins in a master/slave dynamic, their understanding of one another leads to an equal partnership that is beautiful.

Age gap: Ages not mentioned but get the feeling the characters are mature, young adults, late teens/early 20s maybe (it's medieval times-ish).

Tropes: Submission, master/servant(slave), scarred hero, hurt/comfort/protector, monster/orc romance, medieval times-ish, Fated Mates, non-virgin heroine, instalust/instalove, Beauty & the Beast

SFCP (safe for childless people) until epilogue; main characters do not get pregnant/have a baby in the main story.

I received an ARC version of this book in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

Can I give this more than 5 stars?
This was my favorite of the series, as I expected it would be.

I love a scarred MMC. I love a FMC that has had a hard life and gets a man who worships her.

Effie and Korvak are both sweet and gentle characters who have been told they aren't enough due to life circumstances - he is the scarred twin brother, and she is the lowly born cousin. Together, they build a life full of love and happiness, and I just love them.

4🌟 🌶️🌶️ I just knew this was going to be my favorite of the series & I was right!

The last book in the series did not disappoint. I feel like each book got better & this one nailed it. Still a quick, short read but this one had more substance. I felt like I got to know the characters better, their personalities, fears, and heart.

I liked that there was less action and more conversation between the main characters. Of course the dual POV is nice! I appreciate that the language/accent used was toned down a bit from the first so again it was easier to read.

This book had more emotion in it but was low drama, which I really appreciate. It was more about healing & overcoming trauma. Effie was so scared and timid in the beginning, rightfully so with her history. But by the end she had grown into herself & took control of her body & sexuality, with help from Korvak.

Korvak is definitely my FAVE Orc of this series. He is so gentle, kind & patient I just wanted to kiss him!! My heart squeezed for him as well when he spoke of being unwanted and ugly.

The spice was nice, not super detailed but enough that I could picture it and feel satisfied!

Reading the warnings and afterwards about what is in these books is highly entertaining on its own.
The Servant/Master thing didn't bother me so much the way it was handled, but I had serious issues with them overusing the word "Mate" whenever they were talking to each other in th later parts of the book.

This is the last book in the series. All of them can be read as stand alones but I enjoyed reading them in a series. Effie hasn't had an easy life. When the orcs kidnap her and her cousins, she is taken by Korvak. She has needed to use men and allow them to use her in order to have protection. She expects the same thing with Korvak.

This is a fun, steamy, and quick read. It was such a fun series.

Effie and Korvak were wonderful together. I enjoyed how they worked through the issues of getting to know each other and their cultures.

The Stolen Harlots series features 3 heroines who are “stolen” by a group of orcs in order to help unite the humans and the orcs, as well as save our MC’s (Korvak’s) orc clan, Bladesedge, from the Bloodfire clan.

Effie and Korvak’s story is unique in this trilogy in that he “won” her in a bet with another orc, his cousin. Korvak made it very clear though that she was not his property and he would not lay an unwanted finger on her. Because of this, we had a bit more of a slow burn, but it was delicious!!!

Effie, our book 3 heroine, I once thought was the naïve one of the group of ladies, but really she was just quiet and submissive. I loved how resilient she was, though I hated the reasons for it. She was willing to hop into the dirt to help with any task that needed tending to, as well as do anything it took to survive. This made her a perfect match for Korvak, who was use to doing everything on his own until she came around.

I loved how even though he was scared and “scary looking” to most, and definitely a protector who could hold his own, he was such a sweet guy for Effie. He noticed the most minute things and tried to make her life easier, even when just meeting her. Noticed her jaw hurt? He made soft food. Noticed she needed to sleep in? He made breakfast and let her sleep.

I loved that each of them had hurtful backstories and wanted to take care of one another. Each of them recognized how little care the other had gotten in life, and made it their mission to show the other care.

I really liked how Korvak had his own living area away from the main village, where he tended to the animals. This allowed the couple to really create their own world together, separate from the others, which I really enjoyed. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy the village and its other inhabitants, but with both of our MCs being hurt and needing their own comfort, this isolation was perfect for them!

I also LOVED LOVED LOVED how Korvak found the guide and they read it and added to it together!! I’m so happy with the outcome of the guide and where it ended up for now 😊

Thank you to Caroline Lee/Veronika Kane for the opportunity to read a copy of this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.

4.5 stars!

Effie and her cousins are betrayed by the guard/man who promised to keep them safe. Instead he puts them directly in the path of orcs, and tries to use them as bargaining chips. Effie is whisked away first by one orc, but then by another when the first raises his hand against her for being sick from fear. The orcs split up to make them harder to follow and Effie finds herself in a care of Korvak, the clans horse master. He takes her to his small homestead in a meadow, where he spends the summers training horses away from the clan.

All her life everyone told Effie that she wasn't worth anything. Her mother encouraged her to give her body to the toughest man, to keep other men from trying to have their way with her. But when she tries to deploy this method on Korvak, he rejects her. Though it takes her a little while to understand, Korvak only wants her if it's genuinely what she wants rather then out of obligation or trying to repay him for caring for her. Under Korvak's gentle and caring protection Effie finally begins to understand what it is to be valued for who she is rather then what she can do for a male, and the pleasures her body can give her under the attentive menstruations of Korvak.

So what did I think?

First off, why is every single human male portrayed as a horny, greedy, money grabbing abuser? This is only the second book in this series that I have read, but I have yet to read about a single guy not being a complete douche canoe if he isn't green.

That said, I really liked Korvak as a person. He's kind, caring, gentle and understanding towards Effie. He never pressures her into anything and lets her be the one to start the majority of their spicy times while they were getting to know each other at first. Effie was interesting enough, I guess, but Korvak's what sells this story.

Poor relation to landed gentry, Effie is accompanying her cousins to meet a husband for the eldest, Sorcha. As they sleep in an attic room their last night on the road before meeting her betrothed, they’re surrounded by a band of orcs, one of whom Sorcha’s father’s right hand man promised to the clan leader, unbeknownst to them.

Orc warrior and twin to the clan leader Korvak is in the party traveling to collect the clan leader’s new bride. When they arrive at the meeting point, the man with whom his brother made the arrangement demands more remuneration and brings two more women along. When they refuse his demands, the man becomes angry and grabs the nearest woman and threatens to slaughter her. Incensed at his treatment of her, Korvak cleaves the man’s skull just as he’s about to cut the woman’s throat. As the group collects the mostly unharmed women they decide to split up to evade retaliation from the women’s male relative.

As they’re fleeing, another orc is rough with Effie, and this after she was held at knifepoint. Declaring he caused the most damage in battle, Korvak claims the woman as his spoils.
As the pair spend time together, the ill treatment Effie had experienced becomes a touchstone for Korvak to help her regain her agency and demand more from those around her. Along the way they become closer and closer, but will their time with each other end when they reunite with the clan and Effie’s cousins? Or will fate decide?

This was a wonderful conclusion to the Stolen Harlots trilogy. It’s steamy and sweet and moving.

I was fortunate to have received an advance reader copy from the author and bookfunnel, and I’m pleased to share my honest review.

4.25 stars. Effie, the female lead, is a poor cousin of the other female leads in the series. Having being taught she has no value and that she’s better off choosing one male than dealing with many, she offers her favours to Korvak, the male orc lead, who claimed her from his cousin as the spoils of a wager. Korvak only claimed Effie to save her from his cousin’s poor behaviour but he’s horrified to realise that this is her expectation of life. He wants to convince her that she has intrinsic value and that she should only be offering herself to a male she wants. Effie is surprised by Korvak’s approach but his kindness and gentleness means she does want to give him everything she’s offered…

This novella is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and steamy, historical fantasy romance. I enjoyed Korvak’s ethics and principles and his determination to provide genuine undemanding care for Effie. I empathised with Effie’s history and her situation, and I appreciated her pragmatic approach. I enjoyed her blossoming under Korvak’s care and the fun she learned to have. I enjoyed the building intimacy between the characters. I enjoyed the ending and the joy Korvak and Effie found in each other.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

(I probably say this all the time but…) This was my favorite book of the series!

While I loved them all, Korvak and Effie are so caring and soft right from the get go. When this giant, scarred and scary orc allowed a family of mice living in his cooking pot to simply find a new home by putting the pot outside, I knew he would be my favorite.

As heartbreaking and sad as Effie’s backstory is.. it adds such a depth and beautiful element to their relationship. I can’t imagine a more perfect couple for the ending in this epilogue.

While I’m not a historical romance girlie, I have loved everything Caroline Lee has written under her alter ego pen name Veronika Kane - might I start reading Caroline’s stuff? Maybe. But more likely I will devour every single spicy orc book the absolute second it hits the market… or before then if I can manage to be lucky enough! I highly recommend you do the same!

These are Hella fun, kinky quick reads and She saved the best for last. Effie and Korvak’s story is the epitome of wounded souls healing each other. The tenderness, compassion and love shown throughout was truly beautiful. You couldn’t help but fall in love with these two. The fact that they are almost the only characters in the book is a testament to how deep their story gets. There is so much to tell within their character development and backstory that you need only them. I knew Effie had the ability to channel her inner fierce queen, and in Korvak’s embrace she finds that strength and confidence she was missing. Despite this being the sweetest story, I think it was also the spiciest. After all, they didn’t stop at one page of The Harlots Guide they took us on an entire read through and boy did it heat the place up. I have to say combining the historical flair of Caroline Lee’s style with the monster fun of Veronika Kane has been a fabulous experiment and I’d love to see more.

Awww

So sweet! I enjoyed this book the best out of the series because I liked the characters better than the others. They were LOOKING for love, which *to ME* sets a tone in a book regarding character actions and plotline. From reading book one,i.could never have guessed that effie and korvak felt the way they felt about their lives and circumstances. There were some slight inconsistencies from the previous books, most importantly an additional line in a speech that absolutely was not in the speech in the first book, which, had it been included in the first book, would have blown some secrets into the open. Overall,a decent orc series, and I will continue with the bloodfires series

This is about Effie and Korvak. Effie is the poor relation of her cousins when all three of the young women were kidnapped by orcs. Effie is at first very afraid as she has had some trauma from how men treat her. (Trigger warning for SA heavily implied, but not in detail). And Korvak saves her twice, and she feels she has to serve him. But Korvak is scarred, so they both believe they are unloveable.

This one is less steamy then the other two novellas, more of a slow burn. But was very sweet how these two people who thought was unworthy of love came together.

Been having fun with the Highlander Orcs, so I might check out more from the author.

okaayyyy I had to see this one through
tbh I thought I already wrote a review on this but here we go.
This is the third ( and as far as I know the final installment) of the Stolen Harlots Orc romance series
This book was cute!! The themes in this one were a bit more adult solely because of the MC's past. And of course it was so cute. Looking back on this story.... not sure why my rating was so low? The characters in this one are adorable. Maybe because they are so wishy washy? I wont change on myself, as I cant remember much of this story other than I loved Korvak. Idk not much different from the others. It was fast, sweet, and I dont regret reading it.

Another quick and steamy novella in this series. Effie’s cousin is said to be the mate of the orc chief, so a band of orcs come to kidnap her, and end up with Effie as a bonus. She ends up being escorted by Korvak, the chief’s brother, who is generally insecure about his own appearance since he’s heavily scarred and not as handsome as his twin brother. We spend most of this book alone at Korvak’s cottage where Effie tries very hard to earn her keep, even though Korvak is super sweet and does not want to take advantage of her. Super quick easy snack of a read.

How I love an instalove story!
And this is my voluntary review of it:
In this quick and easy to read tale we have a scarred Orc who is so gentle and kind and a young abused woman who thinks she is not worthy of any kind of pleasant consideration.
Their amour is instant even if they don't realise what it is and as it grows, so does their passion and I simply oved them for how they behaved around each other.
Their story is an absolute delight and I am so happy to have been able to read an early copy of it.

I really enjoyed the series. I loved the concept of magic and Orcs during the medieval times. The book highlights the fact that during these times women were considered no more than chattel and were there to do the bidding of "man." Effie started to feel attraction towards Korvak as he showed nothing but kindness towards her. There is plenty of heat and the book was a real fast read. You do not have to read the books in order as they highlight what happened in each book but all are great so I do recommend reading them all.

I received this book as an ARC and I'm giving this review freely.

These are just such fun stories!

I have loved all of these Scottish Orc stories. They’re just fun, flirty, light, easy, and spicy. It’s all about the romance and relationship with a dash of adventure thrown in. They’re just enjoyable and different from the “normal.” Caroline Lee is just a fabulous romance author who knows how to blend good writing with comedic and romantic elements.

Effie and Korvak were lovely together. He was a big cinnamon roll and she was a brave woman who wanted to be protected. Korvak gave her so much more than she imagined.

🔸️Juicy, kinky, unexpectedly gentle, steamy romance. 🔸️I loved that pair! Effie and Korvak are definitely my favourite couple in this trilogy. Both are dealing with traumas and are looking for comfort, kindness and emotional safety. ❤️
🔸️Korvak is a cuteness overloaded hidden under tough, scary exterior. And that guy own a perfect mountain hideaway for him and his mate. 😏
🔸️The scene when they are reading a naughty book together is brilliant!
🔸️Well written, fun and light to read!

Oh Effie, what a backstory she has where she must find a man to protect her but it is never kind. When she is captured by the Orc's, and then wagered to Korvac, she is confused. Korvac is also confused when she tries to barter her body for protection. Korvac is dismayed and sets out to woo is shy and submissive Effie, who is also incredibly resilient and strong. This third story was delightful, sweet and sexy/kinky. This series is amazing!

Oh, my goodness, I adored little Effie and her big, green, scared Korvak. Their romance was sweet and genuine. I loved everything about this story, especially The Soldier and the Crucible. If you want to know what I'm talking about, you are going to have to read the book because we gotta keep these reviews PG.

Oh my!! Veronika said this was probably going to be my favorite and she was not wrong! She has definitely let loose and didn't hold back. The insecurities that the MC have, lead to a beautiful freeing love. Well, that just gives them the freedom to play at being master and slave! I'm sad to see this trilogy end but I am even more pumped about what else Veronika Kane will bring us.

The bet

A bet forced the cousin to give her up! A bet/wager with her new master would turn her life around. Never had she felt important or cherished. The goal was only to have a strong male rather than many. This Orc life was the beginning of a new understanding. What would it entail? The chances were already multiple. Grab a copy and explore more about her life and the book!

Wonderful story of Korvak, an Orc who captures Effie, a maid in the Lord's household, during a raid. Loved these characters, both with their own self worth problems, and how they heal each other. Part of the Stolen Harlots series but can be read as a standalone. Highly recommend for a quick, heartwarming story.

Great Series

I'm really enjoying this series by one of my favorite authors. I wasn't sure I'd like this series when it first came out but found that I enjoy reading about the Orc's. I really enjoyed Korvak and Effie's story. Neither of them feel worthy of love which makes them the perfect match.
