Dive into the passionate journey of Edits, the debut novel by Rosalie Stevens. Discover a romance that defies boundaries in a dystopian world where morality and mortality are both subjective.
In a world set 400 years in the future, society is starkly divided between the immortal bionic elite known as Edits and the quarantined human populace confined to Units due to an unkillable infection. Amidst this dystopian backdrop, Edits follows the compelling story of Magnus Faust, an immortal bionic man, and Kira Tracer, a brilliant young woman whose life takes an unexpected turn.
Kira Tracer has always lived within the restrictive confines of the human Units, a reality she has accepted. However, her world is irrevocably changed when Magnus Faust, an influential Edit, takes a profound interest in her. Thrust into the opulent and mysterious world of the Edits, Kira must navigate a landscape filled with new wonders and hidden dangers.
Despite her initial resistance, Kira finds herself drawn to Magnus. Their passionate connection challenges her beliefs and forces her to confront the complexities of her feelings for a man entrenched in a morally ambiguous world. As their relationship deepens, Kira grapples with questions of morality, identity, and the true nature of love in a world where power dynamics are constantly at play.
Edits explores themes of love and romance amid societal division, the moral ambiguity of relationships between different classes, and the struggle for respect and recognition in a world where humanity is undervalued. With a significant age gap between the protagonists and a rich narrative of desire and defiance, this dystopian romance challenges the boundaries of passion and power, ultimately questioning what it means to be truly human.
As a lover of dystopian books I was so thrilled to be a part of this ARC read! Edits is a standalone dystopian dark romance novel to hit a little bit of everything💕
Kira is such a fun character to follow through this story. From start to finish you get to witness Kira find her own worth, learn to love, and find the strength to stand up for what she believes in. She is portrayed as brilliant, beautiful, and strong, and I love how one wasn’t diminished by another💕 it was also so fun to learn the world as Kira discovered it rather than have a large amount of world building at the beginning which made the read so much more interesting.
I loved reading about Magnus as a person and his mysterious past. I also enjoyed the growth that he had as an individual because of his love for Kira. It was so fun to watch how Kira grew to love Magnus regardless of their circumstances and believed in him even when she didn’t have a reason to.
This book was written very well, and the characters will definitely capture your attention.
This is a dark romance- so I would definitely check the trigger warnings, because if you don’t like books that make you uncomfortable you won’t like this one. With that being said though, it was very well done. I was hooked from the beginning because the world and the Edits felt so confusing, mysterious, and you just wanted more and more. You get completely immersed in a new world set 400 years in the future. You kinda feel confused for a while, but when Kira finds out more it’s feels like the perfect mystery unfolding.
My only issue is that I felt like the book couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a dark romance with a dystopian subplot, or a dystopian with a dark romance subplot and I felt like both themes suffered for it. The first half of the book was such a good dark romance and I liked the hints of the dystopian worlds to give it more than just a spicy book, but then the second half delved into the dystopia and I honestly started rooting for a different MMC😂
But even with that, both of the plots were intriguing enough that I read this book in one day, I absolutely ate it up. Like I needed more and more of Faust. Magnus is an interesting character and you get the dark moral side of scientific breakthroughs, half-man/half robot/immortal beings. You see the good that it can do, but it’s never without the evil underbelly. And Kira is a beautiful girl who is thrusted into this, without knowing the actual truth of her world. It’s such a GOOD dichotomy between very two different people who fall in love in a very dark way. It is stated at the end we would get more books in this world, but a completely different set of people, which honestly is sad. I almost feel like the story between Kira and Magnus isn’t over. It almost felt unsatisfingly satisfying lol. But if you like dark romance with more of mysterious, dystopian plot read this book!!! you will definitely enjoy it :)
Edits is a beautifully written dystopian sci-fi novel by Rosalie Stevens, blending dark, spicy romance with a captivating storyline.
The plot is easy to follow and intriguing, offering a unique experience unlike anything I’ve read before. The story took me on an emotional roller coaster, from rage to happiness, in the best way possible.
The characters stand out, especially in this age-gap romance. I was rooting for their HEA throughout. The morally grey, half-man/half-machine MMC, paired with a brilliant young ballerina who discovers herself as the story unfolds, makes for a compelling dynamic.
I snagged this book as an ARC and flew through it in a day! It was just that amazing.
I’d rate the spice level a solid 4/5.
The storyline was interesting and kept me on my toes. I’m totally loving the futuristic setting, and I think I might be swooning over Faust. Who would’ve thought bionic guys could be so sexy?
The couple gets a happily-ever-after, and it looks like the next book will be a standalone that follows some of the other characters. I’m so excited!
Definitely, a book I’d read again, maybe just for the spice scenes ;). I’m also looking forward to whatever else Rosalie Stevens has in the works!
This book is a dark romance. It’s set in a dystopian future and it’s dark. Check your triggers.
It’s a ballerina and an older man who obviously lacks some common sense because he’s a bit older. It happens as we age. Ballerina thinks old dude needs to have a “wake up and smell your issues” moment a few times. Society is dystopian …so obviously it’s not a paradise and with that comes all the moral issues with people fighting for survival.
There is some eww parts but none that I was like oh my god I’m done with this book. I’m ranking it 4 stars I obviously liked it. I read it in one day. The writing is spot on and the story line is consistent and on par with a dystopian future. The romance, it evolves and I love that. I recommend the book.
The first thing I will say about Edits is that it isn’t like most of the books I have read before. It’s a dystopian novel, but with spicy spice romance. It’s a spicy spice romance with a dystopian plot line. It is dark and different. I personally love a dystopian story because it adds to the fight and the journey of the MCs. This definitely has that. If you are looking for an easy spicy romance, you may want to pass on this because it does have a very interesting plot to go with the spice.
The contrast between the two MCs makes for a good romance story line. Magnus is a 400-hundred-year-old bionic man who is morally gray and lacks some common sense. Kira is a young human woman that is brilliant and strong. Throughout the book you see the growth that she goes through and the impact that she has on their relationship. You see how she influences the 400-hundred year old Magnus. Although she doesn’t always make the best decisions, I really could appreciate Kira and her progression in the story.
Because this is not a simple love story, it can take a little bit to really get into it. This is a whole new world that is fairly bleak, with new ways that things are done. But as with any book like this, if you stick with it, it definitely pays off. Some things were a little confusing but, as a fan of dystopian futures, I was very glad I took the time to understand the world because it was a very good story. And who doesn’t love a heavy dose of spice. 🥵😉 If you are looking for a dark romance with a different story, this is a great book to pick up. As with any dark romance, make sure that you check the trigger warnings. They are there for a reason

💭My thoughts: This story was so unique, it was thought provoking, romantic and at times violent and disturbing but I could not put it down. There is an age gap between Faust and Kira, because Faust is 400 years old due to his immorality as an Edit. I found it similar to a fantasy read when you have a game or vampire who has been alive for centuries. The book did cover uncomfortable topics like human trafficking and abuse so please check the trigger warnings. I enjoyed watching Kira evolve with each name she took, Kira, May, Spark, Zori, Petal and back to Kira. The ending brought it all back together with room for another book. ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 Rounded up
Thank you to @rosaliestevens_author for the opportunity to read the ARC. All opinions are my own. This book is available for preorder and hits shelves August 30th!!
This book is a wowie. Truly an amazing, captivating story. A dystopian love story at its core, it manages to not only create a futuristic world and weave a torrid love affair, but it also has a dose of social commentary, which gives a lot of depth to the narrative.
The story starts with a young Kira, who is as beautiful as she is brilliant. She lives in an overcrowded world that is filled with humans subdued by their technology and a smattering of Edits, people who have gone through the process to merge with technology. Kira ends up leaving the home of her abusive mother and is sent to a boarding school. But her world is soon shattered again when a particularly determined Edit sets his sights on her.
The story has an amazing zoom lens that moves back to reveal more and more of the world, just as Kira begins to understand more about her own life and misconceptions she has had. It begins as an intimate story about a girl trying to find her place and becomes a much larger story, as Kira encounters good, evil and many gray areas in between.
Dystopian readers should love the world, romance readers should love the love. The spice was super hot, but I found myself just as interested in how this world was going to figure itself out!
First things first, this book has a very very healthy dose of spice throughout. Putting that aside, I really very much enjoyed this book, I actually found myself glazing over some of the spicy sections just so I could get back to the plot! That being said there are parts of this book that made me angry, sad, frustrated, all of the feels in different ways. I do wish some things had been made a little more clear, and even though I adore me some extra spicy reads I actually found myself getting somewhat frustrated with it in this book because the plot itself was just something I wanted to explore more.
That being said, I could not give this book 5 stars because there were pages at times that were all just one very lengthy paragraph. It starts off very slow and somewhat confusing and I honestly thought the plot might be hinting at something different than what it was initially hinting at from the first couple of chapters. There were also parts that were kind of slow or confusing at points and frustrated me on a reading level instead of an emotional level. So for those reasons, even though I immensely enjoyed the book it gets 4 stars instead of 5.
Whoa! What a great experience this book turned out to be! I wasn’t sure what to expect from a dystopian dark romance, but this one was totally worth it. Just a heads up, this one dives into some heavy stuff like abuse and human tr@fficking, so make sure to check the trigger warnings ⚠️ before starting. 🔸 I personally loved the whole futuristic world of Edits (half machine half humans but more powerful and immortal). Magnus (1st Edit and creator of Edits) is this morally grey character with his fuçked up logic, and Kira is an intelligent young woman who loves ballet. Their chemistry and banter was just perfect. And the spice??? It's off the charts!!!🔥 I loved their relationship throughout the end and Magnus' possessiveness is swoon-worthy 🤭 (How he keep calling her Spark ✨) 🔸 The whole story was a rollercoaster ride with ups and downs in Kira's life. The book covers a lot of stuff other than romance. The writing was easy to understand and I was totally engrossed in a different world. I loved the ending with both of their POVs and can't wait to read the next book in this series!! That is WIP. I would definitely recommend this book if you love dystopian future dark romance, age gap and a lot of spice. (The snippets of phrases at the beginning of each chapter were lovely)
I had zero clue what this book was going to be about besides it being a dystopian fantasy book. A time when humanity has been reduced to almost self annihilation. Cities in ruin, and humans doing everything they can to survive.
Rosalie paints a world that reminds me of futures very possible, with hovercrafts, automated guidance, and science that tests the Almighty.
Her characters represent those who have had to adapt to this new world, and the absence of all we take for granted, while the elite continue to flourish and live in their own world high above the squaller.
There is some very detailed Spicy Scenes, which I admit, had me red in the face. very spicy.
I am not usually a reader of this genre, but I enjoyed the journey and find her style of writing very intriguing.
Definitely recommend Would add to my collection. Would read this authors work again.
Okay personally my own opinion, the beginning of the story wasn’t pulling me in as much as I wanted, but as I kept reading , it kept getting interesting. 😳 then by chapter 9-10 it has dragged my ass in. I’m invested. This isn’t my normal genre I would go for but it was very interesting to say the least. The spice was spicyyyyy !!
Since Kira (May/Zoriya) was a little girl there was something about her that had Magnus full undivided attention, & then again years later. She didn’t have the best childhood. Magnus on the other hand is an Edit. Pretty much an immortal man, when I found out how old he really is my jaw dropped.
But Magnus though…. How this man has Specialized formula shampoo and conditioner just for Kira, Like he went above and beyond , all her clothes in her size.. whatever she wanted she got.
Dystopian romance , forbidden romance , virgin fmc, age gap 👀 .. if you’re into these tropes I would recommend this book.
Edits by @rosaliestevens_author Is unlike anything I have read before.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Spicy: 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
This is a futuristic dystopian romance. That for any girl who loves Belle, has a bit of beauty and the beast vibes for you.
We’re introduced to the main characters from the get go. However in the situation, Kira is a child, taking an exam that can change her life. And Magnus is the Edit supervising the class.
Years later when Kira Is grown, Magnus returns into her life. Unknowingly to Kira, he has returned for her.
I can tell you how many time I squealed in excitement and had my jaw dropped at the spicy in this book. However Rosalie was able to keep just the right leave of spicy to story that it was never over done.
The world building was creatively curated. The moment you think you understand there are doors opened to a new elements that add depth and conflict.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable story with an absorbing plot. It is a dystopian sci fi novel, with spicy romance. Once started, I had to keep reading. Although told mainly from Kira's perspective, Magnus' perspective was active too. As well as entertainment there was a message - how easily the Human race can destroy the planet. As an Edit, Magnus' intentions for the Earth's recovery are good, and making progress but, like in any society, there are "bad apples" in both Humans and Edits, and some of these are very bad, jeopardising the promised better future! I enjoyed how Kira and Magnus both changed as a result of their relationship. Kira learned her own self worth and how to stand up for herself and in what she believed, while Magnus learned to compromise. By the end of the story, I felt more positive about Humans, Edits and a new, better future for the Earth. This was a well written novel with strong chapters and an absorbing plot.
This is a great mix of Dystopia and Romance. Two of my favorite genres.
Set in a world where humans have almost destroyed the planet. Kira lived in the confines of a human Unit. She catches the eye of Magnus Faust, an immoral human machine. Little does Kira know that Magnus would lead her into a world of dreams and nightmares. Magnus is 400 years old and has lost the desire/ability to discern right from wrong. Kira plays a huge role in Mangus changing some of the rules that have ruled the humans for hundreds of years. Rosalie Stevens writing is attention grabbing and vivid. The setting and characters are described with such detail and attention. There are some dark themes so read the trigger warning before starting.
I am excited to see what Roselie Stevens comes up with in the future.
"Huge thanks to Rosalie Stevens for the ARC of Edits!
I devoured this dystopian sci-fi novel in record time! Edits is masterfully crafted, with a plot that's both gripping and effortless to follow. The writing style? Absolutely captivating!
As a dark romance, be sure to check those trigger warnings before diving in – trust me, it's worth it!
Once I started reading, I was hooked. Every session ended with "just one more chapter" turning into an all-nighter. Stevens' world-building is immersive, and the characters... wow!
Edits earns five shiny stars and a permanent spot on my digital shelf. If you're craving a thought-provoking, addictive dystopian romance, look no further!
Just finished it, and I’m genuinely impressed. The blend of dystopian sci-fi and romance is compelling from the first page to the last.
The characters are well developed, especially the main duo, whose relationship is complex and engaging. The detailed world-building and the plot kept me intrigued with its twists and turns. The pacing is well done, keeping you interested without feeling rushed.
What really stood out to me was the emotional depth and the steamy romance. It's not just a futuristic story; it’s about love, sacrifice, and resilience. I ended up reading it all in one day.
If you’re into dark romance with a sci-fi twist, this is definitely worth checking out. Looking forward to seeing what Rosalie Stevens writes next!
This was a good debut! It's set four hundred years in the future. It's a spicy dystopian Sci-Fi. I liked the story although at first the idea of human trafficking did worry me a touch. What Magnus Faust did for Kira I guess was a blessing. It was a good story. It was something definitely out with my comfort zone as I don't read much Sci-Fi. The characters were all good and I liked how well they worked together. The story is told in first person and it's dual POV. In the perspectives of Kira and Magnus. I really enjoyed this and I hope it does well for Rosalie. I recommend this highly. Especially if you like a spicy dystopian Sci-Fi romance! I look forward to reading more from you in the future Rosalie!!!
This was a really good read! A little slow in the beginning for me but picked up quickly and drew me right back in. Kira is a ballerina at heart whose world is not what she thought it was. Where she’s swept away by magnus who is an edit, a bionic immortal man. There is an age gap between them and some trigger warnings. They live in a dystopian society where everyone is kept in units to keep an incurable virus controlled. It’s a dark romance with a MMC that doesn’t have the best of common sense and a FMC who could have made some better decisions. But overall I really enjoyed the book and look forward to any continuation in the future.
This book is a wild adventure! There are twists and turns, plots, side quests, love, hate and the spice!!!! 🌶🤤 I couldn't get enough of this! The writing is complex and keeps a reader intrigued. The story line travels at a pace where there's space to breathe but then picks up again at such a tare that the reader is never bored. This is one of those books that I wish I could read again for the first time!
It started off reminding me of a much loved series "The Uglies" and then followed a path of its own. I love the dancing, the detail and the dreams come true.
Enjoyed the book very much. The first couple chapters were a bit slow. Would have liked the premise of who the edits are to be explained a bit in the beginning of the book. Definitely picked up closer to the end. Loved the 2 epilogues that wrapped up the story a bit. Can't wait for the next book titled "The Citadel"!!
There are some mature themes that some people might find disturbing. The book also has some very spicy chapters, so be aware of that when reading.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I needed aloe for the burns from the spice level in this book 🔥🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️
A dystopian romance on the verge of erotic. Somehow Stevens manages to bring a good storyline to a whole new level of spice. It is not a read for the faint of heart - there are some trigger warnings (Age gap, grooming, R, unaliving,) but if you can get passed that - buckle up for a RIDE buttercup because you are IN FOR IT!
I was hooked! This book was so captivating that I lost sleep over it. Firstly, "Edit.s" was beautifully written, making it easy to follow the storyline. The book is both intriguing and well-executed. I appreciate a story that evokes a range of emotions, leaving me both loving and hating it simultaneously. If you enjoy dystopian worlds with immortal characters, a rebellion, and a passionate love story, this book could be perfect for you.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from a dark romance set in a dystopian sci-fi world, but this book blew me away. I finished it in one go—it’s that gripping. The combination of romance, intense moments, and a richly crafted futuristic setting hit all the right notes. Whether you’re into romance, sci-fi, or dystopian themes, this one is a must-read. I’m already excited to see what Rosalie Stevens will release next.
It starts with the cover, how should I view the dancer? is her leg real short? Is her hair that long? The first couple of chapters are intriguing. Then it devolves into a body traitor, I hate him but he makes me come kind of book. I don’t like those books, so DNF. Pity though, perhaps with a good edit…hihi, pun intended.
I think I would actually give this book 3.5 stars. I really enjoyed it but not quite enough for 4 stars.
Edits is a sci-fi, dystopian, dark romance. Definitely a unique premise that immediately intrigued me even though I don't normally read dark romance. There were parts of this book that I loved and parts that I didn't but overall it was a good read and I finished pretty quickly!
Since it is a romance, the book mostly focused on the relationship between Kira and Magnus but I really enjoyed the backdrop of the dystopian future. This book grapples with what it is to be human and the value of being human. The main characters of this book are forced to confront different moral and ethical questions while dealing with growing feelings toward each other.
Overall, I found myself rooting for Kira and Magnus and loved the way their story ended. I find myself wanting more from the world of Edits and hope for a sequel soon!
Please note that this is a dark romance. Please check content warnings on the author's website.
Edits takes place in a futuristic, dystopian society. Kira is a bright girl living in a boarding school after she is orphaned. When an Edit (a modified person) shows interest in her, she is swept away to live a new life. There she learns the truth about herself and what is really happening in the world around her.
This is a darkish romance, with an age gap and imbalance of power. It's very spicy, but I say darkish because I've read much darker. Other humans in the story are not treated as well as Kira, so I would still check the trigger warnings. The MMC is very morally gray, and he can't see the flaws in his logic. Enter Kira, who becomes his moral compass. There were a lot of decisions she made throughout the book that frustrated me. However, it seemed like everyone around her was also morally gray. There is no good and bad, only shades of gray in her life. It's easy to give her the benefit of the doubt, considering her childhood and the limited choices she was given. In the end there is character growth and she forces Magnus to make growth with her. I don't love Magnus as a character, but I do love what Kira is able to do in her relationship with him. There is a HEA for these two characters, but a note at the end of the book that states the overall series is not over. This was a roller coaster of a ride, with ups and downs, but looking at the over all book, it's a 5 star read!
