Dean and Nick will stop at nothing to save their sister, Val, who was bitten by a zombie. When their helicopter crashes into the middle of Zombie Land, the three siblings must fight to survive. Things suddenly get more complicated when a drifter steals the precious vials needed to save Val. The hunt is on to find the scoundrel and get their vials back.
IMPORTANT This is a warning to those readers who are looking for a more violent read with gruesome descriptions of blood and gore. This is NOT that type of book. There is lots of zombie action, but this particular story is based more on the action, drama, and survival aspects.
Chrissy Peebles, a practicing nurse, has always loved reading and writing fantasy from the earliest age she can remember. She plotted every single twist she could think of during bedtime stories for her children. When her little ones begged for more adventures, she felt confident enough to let her overeager imagination and sense of humor spill out into her first novel. She lives in Ohio with her husband, two young kids, one hamster, three dwarf hamsters and cat. When she's not taking the kids to Little League soccer, basketball, or baseball, she loves to snap photos as her favorite hobby.
Oh my god!!! I can't wait to see what happens next!!! Dean, Nick, Lucas, Claire, and Jackie are all still together, trying to survive long enough to see if they can cure Val. When she finally turns, some unexpected plot twists occur. And keep occurring... This was the holy moly cliffhanger book... The end was more frustrating than anything I've ever read, and yet... The author has created this awesomely unbelievable world, where zombies reign and people are running scared. It's so believable, that I cannot read it at bedtime, as zombies ( and other horrible viral pandemics) are my biggest fear!
It has been a while since I read book 1. Once I started this book, it was like I just read book 1 yesterday. It picks up where book 1 left off with them chasing Tahoe for the cure to save Val. I love the characters and how they work so well together to survive. This book will leave the reader with some questions. I will definitely be reading book 3 so I can see how they get out of their current mess.
this is my first entrance in to the world of the Zombie apocalypse. it has been fun. Some parts are really good, others, not as much. Somethings seem out of place.
I have enjoyed it and I will continue in the series.
I enjoyed this book far more than the first, more action, good plot, and the main characters Val, Dean and Nick are well written, but Clair & Jacky are as annoying as ever. The narration was okay, but I'm definately looking forward to book 3. I received this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
Dean and Nick woke up at the airport to realize that they had been robbed by the deplorable person known as Tahoe. He had taken everything, including their supplies, transportation, and the cure that Val would need soon. It is a good thing Lucas had a tracker for the bug planted on the vials of the cure. They would be able to follow Tahoe wherever he went. But first, they needed to find some transportation.
The physical world-building can put you right in the scene. The ethereal world-building can add flavor to the scene. The character’s interactions feel reasonably real. The character’s history was explained in the first novel, but what you need to know for this installment is contained herein.
This is a dark fantasy read that has horror and science fiction in a post-apocalyptic setting. I give this read five stars out of five stars.
“What the heck” is one of the main characters favorite expressions and I find myself asking the same question! However, I guess the jokes on me as I keep following the series to see if Val is forever doomed to be a zombie or if the miracle elixir will return her to normal. Just like the giant tuna I’ve been hooked, at least for the time being. So “what the heck” I guess I’ll follow along.

It sad that Val is turning intona zombie and now they are in a city that doesn't seem right to them and now they need the care to save Val and find out what going on in this close off city.
Loved this one. I couldn't put it down. I finished the book in a couple of hours. What a brilliant story. Love this series. I have brought the rest of the series can't wait see read them.
I enjoyed reading "Race for the Cure" and was getting comfortable with the pace when it finally ended with another cliff hanger. I was anxious to get into book #2 after completing the first book, but quickly became disenchanted with the short length. There are more conversations and thoughts about the boys' love interests than of zombies or finding their sister. I viewed the descriptions of the next six books in the series and saw that the short stories continue at the same pace and twists in each book. I love the storyline and want to continue, but not at the current price of admission. The author should consider a boxed set of all 8 episodes for the same cost she is charging for a single edition of the small installments. Until this happens, I won't be purchasing any more single novellas. Good luck in your ventures Chrissy Peebles!
John Podlaski, author Cherries - A Vietnam War Novel
This novella starts off with a bang, I was half way through before I could put it down. The second half isn't as much of a page turner but you almost need that time to catch your breath. The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is because it feels like they took a book and split it into 2 novellas. I think $2.99 is a bit unreasonable for a novella considering that the books are the same price. That being said, I will buy the third installment which is a novella because it is that good and I need to know what happens.
Ok. I'm hooked. This series keeps getting better! The group is still out in zombie land but now they're chasing after Tahoe, after he stole the vials. I hate that guy! Val is getting worse and I'm worried she might be killed off soon. It's such an unpredictable book with twists and turns every chapter. I got book 1 because it was free and purchased book 2 because I couldn't just forget the cliff I was left hanging from. And now it appears I'll be buying the rest of the series! Each installment ends with me holding my breath.
Chrissy Peebles has you engrossed from the first chapter. I am thoroughly enjoying the Zombie Chronicles and can't wait to download the rest in the series. Young characters show strength and unity during a harrowing life experience. Will they all make it through to live the "new normal"? The saga continues and is well worth taking the journey. Well done Chrissy.
Started off enjoying this series, then got annoyed I had to pay $2.99 for a novella and then when reading a conversation between Jackie and Dean, a "heh" was exchanged I turned right off. It's ok for a text message conversation but not a book. I sort of want to know what happens to them all, if Val survives, who dies... But not enough to keep forking out for novellas.
Chrissy manages to capture the suspense of an apocalypse along the lines of the Walking Dead in her novellas. The suspense revolves around a small band of friends with a common goal, to keep one member alive while protecting each other. I bought book three.
I'm a traditionalist when it comes to my zombie stories and this didn't quite live up to my expectations. I felt like I wasted too much time waiting for one of the characters to turn into a zombie. I like the camaraderie the characters had for each other but the story left me wanting more.
Great series so far, but I won't pay $2.99 for less thaan an hour of reading. Said 250+ but every page the count went up by 7...anyone else get these and want to lend? Just too much to pay for 5 short stories.
Prepare yourself for an emotional, adventurous, and wild ride as you tag along with Dean in this 2nd installment!! Absolutely great series!! I'm totally hooked!!
The saga continues with siblings Nick, Dean and Val along with survivors Lucas, Jackie and Clair heading out on foot once again. Against Nick’s better judgement the group picked up survivor-hitchhiker Tahoe. When the group woke in the morning Tahoe was gone along with their Jeep vehicle, go figure. The horrible realization was that the vials of the cure were gone too. With fear and anger the group saddled up and headed out to find Tahoe and the cure. During their search Val passed on and turned. Now they didn’t have the cure to give her. The story marches on as the search becomes more desperate. More action and less talking would be appreciated. Three.point.five for the effort.
