They call me a money bull. I rule the darkest world. A universe where survival is the only currency.
It isn’t for the weak. It isn’t for the living. It’s for those who know how to endure.
And then there’s her. She carries no tenderness, no serenity. She is the eye of the storm, unaware that I am the calamity waiting to unfold in her life.
Even so, I’ll pull her from the poorly scripted brutality. She doesn’t see it, doesn’t know what’s closing in.
But no matter the outcome or the cost, I will end it. No matter who started it.
Now the tricky part is who will save her from me. I, Lorcánn Trant, declare war. And no one is ready for what’s coming.
Note: It's highly recommended to read ZACH (book 2 in the Immortal Mackays series) to get a grasp of the bigger picture. Always check your triggers on my IG page!
what a ride ... I wish I would've read the books prior just for some back story but I loved me some alphahole energy with lorcann.. also love a feisty fmc... loyal dog...and some spice 🔥 🥵 love the side characters too and cannot wait to read more
This book surprised me in the best way possible. I wasn’t a big fan of the writing at the start and was very confused with all the stuff that was being left out, but when we finally got answers it was like an explosion in my head. I did not expect it and I was stunned in shock. I enjoyed it, and for me the confusion was definitely worth it, although I do wish it wasn’t dragged out as much. The writing is confusing at the start but I think it’s intentional for the effect. They keep talking about a “he” and it’s clear that the mcs have met way before the beginning of the book so I'm just like “What in the world is going on?” But I persevered because I love a man who takes care of his girl even if it’s by kidnapping her and trapping her in his house. Lorcann is a mob boss / assassin who’s very morally grey and very very obsessed with the fmc, Vivena. Vivena is an odd character at first because we don’t understand her past but once we do it all makes sense. Halfway through the book we get this huge vomit of all the information we’ve been neglected from. And damn I was amazed by the complexity of this plot. After that moment, I was entranced by this book and its intense thrilling plot. There’s a lot more plot twists from there all the way to the end, and I loved every moment of the madness. Suddenly everything makes sense in a really twisted and psychotic way, and I never would have expected that. Honestly K.R. Ruth is a genius, this book was a dark masterpiece but he sure to check your trigger warnings because it can get quite dark. Also I love the “my wife” trope but she hates him and they’re not even engaged. That man was determined, confident and went after what his girl, as a dark romance girl I approve. I really enjoyed this and I give it a 4/5
Huge thanks to the author, K.R. Ruth, for the opportunity to read an early copy of Broken Ties. I’m always grateful for the trust, and I truly admire the imagination behind this world.
Broken Ties has an intriguing premise and one undeniable strength: the MMC. He completely stole the show for me - magnetic, emotionally complex, and the kind of character that lingers. And the spice? 🔥 Absolutely a highlight: intense, vivid, and genuinely well done.
That said, I didn’t fully connect with the writing style, and I struggled to relate to the FMC. More than once, I felt disoriented - the story’s danger and tension were there, but I didn’t quite understand the why behind it until very late in the book. It didn’t feel like a deliberate slow build; it felt more like I was trying to catch up.
It’s possible that reading Zach (book 2 in the Immortal Mackays series) beforehand would have helped make things clearer, and I do think readers who are familiar with the world will have a smoother experience. The plot itself is compelling, but it arrives too late - I’d have loved a few clearer breadcrumbs earlier on to help ground me.
Still, there’s plenty to enjoy here if you’re into immortal romance with heat, a complex world, and a brooding male lead who makes it all worth the ride.
"Trust the process?" That definitely applies to books, especially this one.
Every page had me questioning everything. What's even happening? What is this book about?! It throws you hints, sprinkles some backstory, and leaves you wondering who is Lorcánn and why is Vevina so important? The tension of needing answers? Real 😮💨
And your girl couldn't guess a thing right until I was over a hundred pages in 😅
That's when the story starts to really pick up, and trust me, it gets dark. Like, read the trigger-warnings-twice kinda dark. I thought I was ready, but no. I was not expecting that. This story will absolutely mess with your head 😵💫
And just when I thought I figured it out, another twist smacked me across the face. If this book could talk, it would've said: "Aww, girl. You thought." 😂
Don't think it ends there. Another surprise is waiting even after you think it's over 😏
A solid 4.5☆ read and the spice? Hot enough that I was tempted to dive into a pool fully clothed just to cool off 🥵🏊♀️
⚠️ Don’t ignore the warnings. This book dives deep into heavy, dark themes. Your mental health matters 🌼
Thank you for letting me meet Lorcánn and Vevina early 🖤
This book is definitely an enemies-to-lovers type of story. Vevina and Lorcánn hated each other, but despite their animosity, Lorcánn was determined to win her heart and make her his. It’s a dark mafia-style story, but the spice is not as much as I would have liked it to be. Despite this, it’s still a really good book. I really love that Echo the dog was the backbone between them. The MFC is feisty and takes no shit from anyone and this includes our MMC the now new mafia boss after his father’s death. I really loved that you can see the banter & heat between the two. You could tell that there was something there even if they didn’t see it coming. As always make sure you check on the TWs. I never read them but not all dark romances are for everyone.
Broken Ties pulls you in from the first page. This book is not for the faint of heart, but for those who crave a raw, passionate, and sometimes dangerous love story, it absolutely hits the mark. The dynamic between Lorcánn and Vevina is the core of this book. Lorcánn is every bit the dark, possessive alpha. You know he's trouble, but it's impossible not to be drawn to his magnetic presence. Vevina, on the other hand, is a balance of vulnerability and fierce resilience. Their connection is volatile, dangerous, and incredibly HOT 🔥! It's an addictive ride, and I'm excited to read the rest of the series as they come out!
Broken Ties is dark, twisted, and full of heat. The MMC, Lorcánn, absolutely steals the spotlight—magnetic, dangerous, and the kind of possessive alpha you know is trouble but can’t look away from. Vevina balances him with her mix of fragility and fire, and their connection? Volatile, messy, and scorching 🔥.
The worldbuilding does feel disorienting at first, and the breadcrumbs take a while to click into place, but once it does? Whew. The tension skyrockets, the twists don’t stop slapping, and the story goes darker than expected—definitely check those trigger warnings.
If you’re craving immortal romance with raw passion, brutal stakes, and spice that burns, this one delivers.
honestly I’d love to know what everyone is smoking to say this book is a 5 stars.
I read a lot of books and I do not write negative reviews lightly nor do I DNF a book lightly. However I got 80 pages in and I still don’t understand what the book is about. I couldn’t tell you. I love a good mafia enemies to lovers. But I couldn’t get past the writing. And how it is written. I reread pages 4-5 times because it just did not make sense. So it has nothing to do with triggers or tropes. Just simple writing style.
I not so patiently waited to get my hands on this book. I was not disappointed. It will take you on a journey from start to finish. Every time I thought I figured the plot out it would twist in the other direction. It was captivating and enjoyable. It is book one of the Bullets and ashes series and it is an interconnected standalone. It is amazing on its own but you can always learn a little more about certain characters if you read their books in the Immortal Mackey series.
"I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.” Broken Ties. Who is Lorcann and why is Vivian so important to him? The tension in this book. The hunger that keeps u going. And believe me this is dark and hot 🥵. Read the trigger warnings because some will not be ready for this ride. But I absolutely loved it. 💛❤️🔥
Do you want something that screams 😱 JOKER Vibes 🃏... then read this!.
This was a first read from this author and the vibes for this book were absolutely spot on. This did take me a little to get into at first but I trusted the process and loved it.
This enemies to lovers book was great once it got going! The twists and turns in the book kept me guessing. Every moment has me hoping Vevina was going to get a happy ending. I so didn't expect the ending!
I really wanted to enjoy this book, but I ultimately wasn’t able to finish it. I found it difficult to connect with the writing style and characters, which made it a DNF for me. This is entirely a matter of personal taste—while it didn’t work for me, I know it will find the right readers who will be able to connect with it better.
I absolutely loved this book and I was not disappointed. It takes you in a roller coaster ride from start to finish. Every time you think you’ve got the plot figured out, it would twist in the other direction. This book one of the Bullets and ashes series, however it can be read as a standalone. I can’t wait for more!
