Who can resist riding on a fire engine with Maisy?
A pair of shaped board books welcome preschoolers aboard! NEE-NAH, NEE-NAH! Maisy and Cyril are driving a fire engine today. First they have to check the water in the hose. SWOOSH! Uh-oh! Look out, little cat! Now the cat is scared and climbs up on the roof and won’t come down. But firefighters Maisy and Cyril come to the rescue - and then they’re off for a ride in their shiny red truck!
Lucy Cousins, BA Honours in Graphic Design from The Faculty of Arts and Architecture, Brighton Polytechnic, postgraduate degree from Royal College of Art, is an author-illustrator of children's books. She is best known for her books featuring Maisy Mouse but she has also published other children's books including one about Noah's Ark. She is a mother of four and lives in Hampshire, England. Her own children are the inspiration for her books whose age range is 2-8.
Synopsis: The Maisy the Mouse book series hails from England and features cutesy drawings in primary colors with simple text chronicling the adventures of Maisy and her animal friends. In this sturdy boardbook, Maisy and her squirrel friend, Cyril, rescue a cat.
Bilingual benefit: Unlike many board books for babies and under 2 toddlers, “Maisy’s Fire Engine” has plot, interesting yet simple text, and English onomatopoeia (the fire engine goes “nee-nah” and the water goes “swoosh"). While the language in “Maisy’s Train” is more useful, “Maisy’s Fire Engine” is still a nail-biter for a little one: how will Maisy rescue Little Black Cat?!?
Availability in Israel: I found this Maisy book in Tel Aviv in either Tzomet Sfarim or Steimatzky, although I do not recall which one. As both Tzomet Sfarim and Steimatzky carry a large selection of Maisy books, you can probably ask them to order the book for you if you are unable to find it in one of their brick and mortar stores. In addition, the book is available for order on Amazon USA and Amazon UK.
Previewing the book: Although the book is not available for preview on Amazon USA, it can be previewed on Amazon UK. (last checked 13/10/2014). In addition, you can find several videos of people reading it out loud on YouTube.
Lil guy: A regular read.
Mama: Highly recommended. I would buy this again and for a friend.
This cute little board book has lots of fun sound effects that you can make while you are reading it. I love that Maisy is a fire fighter, because girls are also fire fighters! Mostly they aren't fighting fire, but are actually rescuing a kitty.
Final Project: This is a quick and easy book to read. I wouldn't use this book in middle school but elementary it would be good. The book ids great because it is showing little girls that if they want to be a fire fighter they can do it its not just something boys can do.
Gabriel was a bit bored with it & they only saved a cat, didn't put out one fire! I like more truth in the books I read to G. The only good part? MAISY's a firewoman!
Great one for a toddler who loves everything fire truck, firefighter, fire house, etc.... The sounds are a great way to remember the book when it's not right beside us.
