Originally published in France, this series of the character named Ariol is fun, and simple, and every-day-life-ish. The illustrations of Ariol with his giant eyes behind his glasses make the reading of the book wacky, but the vignettes are about the very basics of living life--saying goodbye to friends, eating dinner, being at school. The characters unfold very slowly, and naturally, and it's just fun, easy reading...
My nine-year-old has gobbled all of these books up in an instant, and is excited for the next release.
