Emmanuel Guibert has written a great many graphic novels for readers young and old, among them the Sardine in Outer Space series and The Professor’s Daughter with Joann Sfar.
In 1994, a chance encounter with an American World War II veteran named Alan Cope marked the beginning of a deep friendship and the birth of a great biographical epic.
Another of Guibert's recent works is The Photographer. Showered with awards, translated around the world and soon to come from First Second books, it relates a Doctors Without Borders mission in 1980’s Afghanistan through the eyes of a great reporter, the late Didier Lefèvre.
Guibert lives in Paris with his wife and daughter.
The Book Ariol A Nasty cat by Emmanuel Guibert. This book is really funny. I recommend this book for people in 2 grade to 5 grade it's a very childish book and funny at the same time. I picked this book just because it looked funny and I never seen such a thing.
Ariol A Nasty Cat is a fun read that I don't feel needs the previous volumes to enjoy. I don't know if that will be the case for volume 7, but this book definitely is a fun read for my two kids so I think the age of 7-10 is perfect for this book.
Short, funny comics about the daily adventures of a little donkey and his animal friends. Reads like realistic fiction and each comic is like its own sitcom episode.
The Race--Ariol gets competitive in gym and tries to win the warm-up race only to be beaten by his best friend Ramono.
Foundation-- In an attempt to look more like his hero, Thunderhorse, Ariol gives himself a makeover using his mother's foundation.
Snow Day-- Ariol and Ramono cause a little trouble when they attempt to bobsled with a wooden crate.
Petula! Petula!-- Ariol hears a song that reminds him of his beloved Petula and gets her a gift he's sure she will love.
A Surprise-- While Ariol is busy planning his birthday party his friends and family are arranging a surprise party for him.
Truth or Dare?-- Ariol schemes to have Petula sit beside him on the bus, but ends up getting in trouble after the girls start playing a game of Truth or Dare.
One to Zero-- Ramono sleeps over at Ariol's house and they scheme to stay up late watching a sports game with Ariol's dad. Ramono acts a little spoiled and Ariol gets annoyed.
Aquasplash!--Ariol and his dad have fun at the pool where they run into one of Ariol's classmates and her mother.
Mrs. Sapolin's Pies-- Ariol and Ramono help prepare pies for the community bazaar and meet and paint with a local artist.
Don Olio and his Rhythms-- Ariol and Ramono staff the pie table at the bazaar and Ariol meets one of the singers signed up for the event.
Vote for Ariol-- Ariol decides to run for student council in hopes of getting closer to Petula, but ends up getting paired up with Bizzbilla (his not so secret admirer).
The Election--Ariol is torn over who he should vote for in the student council elections.
Love this series! Highly recommended for grades 3-5, especially fans of the Babymouse/Squish series, and James Kochalka's work.
-Ariol A Nasty Cat by Emmanuel Guibert and Marc Boutavant Copyright 2011 Text to Text- Mrs. Toggle’s Class Picture Day by Robin Pulver, everyone in the class is ready for picture day but Mrs. Toggle comes in having a bad hair day. The children thought they could make it better after some time passed became worried they would not be able to fix it. Then Mr. Abel, the school custodian, turns on a hug fan making everyone have a bad hair day. Mrs. Toggle was happy again now that she was not the only one with bad hair. The story started out the positive children, them getting worried, and finally being content with everyone having bad hair.
Text to Self- 2 years ago my sister got her hair cut short and it was something I had never done before but I felt like giving it a try. So I got my haircut short and I did not like it at all. So like in the story I thought I wanted something else but it turned out that I did not know what I had in the beginning.
Text to World- in the early 1900’s, the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team changed their name to the Toronto St Pats. But all the fans did not like the name change because it was not the same name they had cheered on for years. So after 3 years they changed it back to the Maple Leafs. So just like the story, they thought they wanted something else but the original idea was better.
This is a surprisingly charming, yet incisive, graphic novel, which can be enjoyed by readers of any age group, about the life of a small blue donkey (Ariol) in middle school. I thought the quality of the drawings and the perceptiveness of the observations of the group dynamics in class, among his family and friends, etc., excellent and somehow relaxing. Ariol's world has its ups and downs but it's a nice world to escape to momentarily. Many will no doubt identify with Ariol's unrequited/secret crush on Petula - complete with fond/anguished thoughts of the object of his affections.
I thought this was such a pleasant, yet absorbing, read that I'm going to borrow the other titles in the Ariol series from the library. I can unreservedly recommend this enchanting book to anybody!
The sixth volume of stories about Ariol and his anthropomorphic school pals. Just as adorable and full of fun as fans of Ariol and his best friend pig, Ramano have come to expect. The title refers to a cat character, Timberwolf, who is a bit of a bully with a nasty attitude but he doesn't appear all that much. Great fun stories with appearances by pretty much everyone we've ever met in the series plus some new characters. Not a big review because the book is just what I expect from Ariol and another delight to have read. Look forward to the next one which is going to be one big long story instead of the usual collection of shorts!!
